2401  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Help us to sell crypto in Colombia on: February 06, 2022, 05:41:47 AM
do you know of any way that he can receive a credit card to sell her crypto? or receive money?
About receiving a credit card to sell crypto, someone in the country would be more suited to give an answer to that question, as you will need knowledge about how the banking system works.

I looked up the legality of bitcoin in Columbia and there seems to be no impediment to selling or buying bitcoin there, so your friend could use one of the popular exchanges which has added Colombian Pesos to their list of accepted currencies.
There is also the option of a P2P exchange, but for that amount, it could take a while.
2402  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto-Currency in Africa on: February 05, 2022, 08:50:34 PM
Africa being a developing continent, have deficiencies in the technological atmosphere, mostly internet and light.
Africa is not deficient in the technological scene. The continent has a fast growing internet population and a teeming amount of youths in the population who are very interested in tech.

Most of the Communities in Africa have no internet services and light to access the currency or use it for transactions.
What is your statistics on this? In Nigeria, where I am from; Internet is quite popular and has penetrated almost the entirety of the nation, same with many other African nations.

So, to what extend can everyone in Africa uses the Crypto-Currency for transaction of goods and services.
To a very large extent. The continent has a large following for cryptocurrencies and is only limited by some government policies.

Also, how can Crypto-Currency help the indigenous Fiat currencies and grow the African Nations Economy.
Cryptocurrencies cannot support economies, neither can it help fiat currencies. It is a peer-to-peer network which bypasses the need for a third party.
2403  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My First Encounter/Experience With Crypto-Currency (Bitcoin) 2015. on: February 05, 2022, 04:47:01 PM
The seminar was probably a scam campaign as anyone who actually understands bitcoin would not need to create an account for others to hodl, and definitely would not need an email address.
I can assume if your introduction to bitcoin was different you could have had a very different past 7 years (from 2015). But it is never too late to get into bitcoin and locating this forum is one way to do it right as there is so much information on here that is useful to bitcoin enthusiasts.
2404  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Just trying to understand how NFT works when trying to sell on: February 04, 2022, 10:20:07 PM
Even if I buy a NFT at 0.03ETH and a week later it rise up to 0.06ETH it still depend on if there will ever be a buyer that will be at this new price right? No volume or liquidity like tokens and coins listed on exchange, am I right?
NFTs do not operate as regular cryptocurrencies, which is one out of the total supply and a sale of one coin determines the price of the whole crypto. NFTs are different and each is sold differently as such there can be no price increase without the seller fixing the price or the buyev placing a bid, a digital art cannot simply rise I'm value, except it is put in a type of auction where no price is set and the value can ride based on seller's demands.

You are right about no volume or liquidity.

2406  Other / Meta / Re: Some info about spammer warning... on: February 03, 2022, 03:02:10 PM
Is there any way users can find out how many times they were warned before? As I can remember I was also warned one or two times a long time ago but can not remember exactly for how many days.
No, I do not believe there is anyway to check how many times you have been banned before on the forum. The knowledge that you have been banned previously before should be enough warning to avoid the practices that actually caused you the temporary ban.

2407  Other / Meta / Re: Possible to know who locked thread? Mod/Author? on: February 02, 2022, 01:10:36 PM
The OP should be able to confirm who locked it by checking whether or not they can unlock it. If it was locked by a mod, then you should not be able to 'unlock' it, AFAIK.
I can see some use for other users to know who locked a thread, especially if you want to report it to be locked. Some scammers posts a scam thread, lock it so no one replies calling them out, and unlocks it when they want to bump it.
2408  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was finally able to purchase an iPhone 13 pro max using my Bitcoin on: February 02, 2022, 01:02:47 PM
That's an interesting fact though iPhone is super expensive nowadays at least for me, its price will slowly go down when a new version will come. the bitcoins you paid to him will gradually increase its price when iPhone 14 pro max is released in the market. But don't worry about it, since your buying it for yourself, it will never be wasted.
If we consider the speculative value of bitcoin, then we would never spend it, as it has the potential to increase in price from any point. But it as great utility as a currency for exchange of value and if no one spends it, then its value cannot grow.

because if we buy a cup of coffee using bitcoin it looks like we are showing off too much bitcoins that we have, and can make it easier for others to track our bitcoins..
IMO, large purchases are more likely to attract more attention than a coffee purchase, and by not reusing addresses you could avoid being tracked. Fiat seems more attractive for a regular user however.
2409  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: What are your plans for the 2022 crypto market? on: February 02, 2022, 05:39:31 AM
What do you think about the crypto market in 2022? Are we surpassing the uptrend and will the market soon enter the crypto winter? What will you do.
I do not think much about the general cryptocurrency market, as it is an unpredictable space and can spring up a surprise like NFTs at anytime. If you zoom into bitcoin, then it should be more of the same, which is the exact reason it is preferred by most to other cryptocurrencies, it is reliable and the protocol does not undergo sudden changes.

What are your plans for 2022 to continue earning more for yourself?
Buy more bitcoin and hodl.
2410  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 40,785 Bitcoins transferred away from Exchangers. on: February 01, 2022, 08:45:17 PM
I am not pretty sure considering millions of bitcoins on the market, does 40,785 bitcoins gonna make any difference? (May be at some point but not much is it??)
Large purchases occur every time in the market and does not always reflect in the price of bitcoins. Movements of bitcoin into cold storage does not affect the market much either, especially when the motive of the transaction is just speculations.

With the current state of the market, many are looking for bullish news to lift the general market sentiment, but a rumored transfer of 40kBTC would not be enough to build resistance in the market.
2411  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Critizising BTC power consumption on: February 01, 2022, 08:20:19 PM
If you don't believe in bitcoin, you'd think it is a waste of electricity. Otherwise, you wouldn't think that.
Whether or not you believe in bitcoin, it is obvious that bitcoin does not consume enough electricity to be actually a topic in the global energy consumption scene. The narrative that bitcoin is an energy threat is mostly spread by governments and those with a propaganda against it.
2412  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pay for coffee with Bitcoin on: February 01, 2022, 07:18:20 AM
Hello, friends am from Nigeria a country where government regulation on cryptocurrency is flexible according to the law,
Regulations of cryptocurrency in Nigeria are not flexible, the government has banned all financial institutions from getting involved with Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, meaning the only way to buy or sell Bitcoin as a Nigerian is through peer to peer transactions.

In December 2022 I launched a campaign among crypto friends to adopt Bitcoin as a mode of payment in our venture and outlets, on 31st of January I open a Coffee shop and the Capital City Abuja for Bitcoin and none Bitcoin customers. This is aimed at promoting Bitcoin adoption and, as a newbie member here, I wish to see your advice and suggestions.
How do you plan to facilitate cryptocurrency related transactions for your business?

In a third-world African country, Nigeria
"In a developing African country, Nigeria"
2413  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why the reduced publicity? on: January 31, 2022, 11:28:35 PM
I wonder why I never heard about it up until recently. There are definitely many others who have never heard about this forum. Is it in the agenda of the forum not to gather too many users hence the reduced publicity?
Bitcointalk does not engage in publicity at all. As far as I know, there is just one official Twitter account and besides that, the forum is not represented on other social platforms. The reason for this could be so the forum is as similar to Bitcoin as possible. Bitcoin does not engage in publicity but rather allows users find it out and do their own research.

The forum is definitely not readily reachable to a average individual and more publicity would surely be helpful to get more users on here.
2414  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: With the prosperity comes big price! NFT market faces consequences. on: January 31, 2022, 04:31:22 PM
Do you realize that NFT is a great tool for money laundering? Now even the laundered money can be declared as white money just by adding an NFT aspect to it. Scaps are being sold for millions of dollars every day in NFT market. That needs to stop!
Art works have generally been used for money laundering for a very long time now, but focus is usually on fields relating to blockchain and cryptocurrency and the scams are so poorly done that it becomes very obvious.

Are majority of NFTs scams? Yes. It is an easy market to exploit considering it is trending at this point in time, similar to DeFi, ICOs, etcetera.
2415  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: January 31, 2022, 03:39:32 PM
Before the court decides, the presumption of innocence remains.
Ideally, this should be the case, but in reality it doesn't always happen like that. Manchester United have already suspended Greenwood from the team till further notice, showing that his career is already being affected, even though he should be presumed innocent. Social media attacks would also be a factor in this case.
Everyone should ideally stay on the fence and let the authorities investigate.
2416  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2021/2022 on: January 31, 2022, 02:52:33 PM
But in some cases it seems like money plays a big role in resolving the deal peacefully.
This would only have been possible before the case went public, now there is the legal court which will preside over the case and the social media one. It may be possible to use money to settle out of court so charges are not pressed, but social media and the general public would not easily forget about it and finding a club that would take the risk with him would be difficult.

At this point in time, it's best to let the law take its course after carrying out sufficient investigations.
2417  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2022-01-26] Europol report on cryptocurrencies on: January 31, 2022, 02:05:34 PM
I believe the narrative that bitcoin is only used for scams is one that would only be able to go away with time. Educating the public would go a long way, but people would tend to mistrust ideas they do not fully understand such as bitcoin and the technology behind it.
Also, majority do not care about privacy, so they would hardly understand why bitcoiners value it so much, meaning many would associate it with scams.

Please, I had surgery last week, don't make me laugh, it hurts a lot.
Just learning about this now, wish you quick recovery. Bitcoiners are tough and you will pull through.
2418  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: the comforts of bitcoin on: January 30, 2022, 08:15:20 PM
Bitcoin operates without banks or the need for a third party, but this does  not mean we can do without it or bitcoin is a perfect replacement, it just means it operates as a P2P network.

But you cant revert it back which is the major con since its running on decentralized chain. Once you made a mistake like forgot your private key of your wallet, then its good as gone. Better dont forget that too. Or you send to someone else wallet instead of the correct receiver, you cant simply revert it or more like to say impossible.
The fact that bitcoin is irreversible once confirmed is actually a positive in my opinion as no one can regulate your funds according to their terms of service, neither can funds in your wallet be retrieved by the sender. You would put in more work to learn the basics and it could take a while, but eventually you will get a hang of it.
2419  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal about transferring accounts (username change) on: January 30, 2022, 08:06:20 PM
1. The transfer of accounts is carried out by exchanging the names of two accounts with each other.
...
4. You can reserve and use the name of someone else's account if it has not been active for many years and is a new account with no post history.
Why would you want to switch usernames with an account you own? You already have an account with that username.
If it is not an account owned by you, then I do not think there is any condition that would warrant a switch of usernames, being inactive or not making any post is not reason enough.

I do not remember who said, but someone already suggested making an actively updated list that would display changed UIDs.
Changing display names would not affect the UIDs associated with them.
