1441  Economy / Speculation / Re: Generational Buying Period is On-Going on: November 14, 2022, 09:04:02 PM
Waiting for a certain period or point in the cycle would mean the individual has not yet made up their mind to buy yet, and an infographic would not convinced them to do so.

Dollar Cost Averaging which OgNasty suggested above does not need one to be able to read technical analysis or understand where the market is heading, it just needs consistent buy in amounts at regular time intervals, which when accumulated overtime would prove to be a good way to build sats.
1442  Other / Meta / Re: Why does an account get autobanned? on: November 14, 2022, 08:49:25 PM
My question is, if you do something wrong with the account, the account will be auto banned.
If a user breaks the forum rules, they would get the punishment for the particular offence, which is also at the discretion of the admin or staff.
Some offences lead to a temporary ban, some to deleted posts, and some to a permanent or autoban.

This usually only applies to newbie members.
AFAIK, it can only apply to newbie members who have an activity of below 30 points. This means that a newbie who has a high activity (30+), but not enough merits to rank up to Jr. Member cannot be nuked.
1443  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges or platforms with too good offers. Be careful on: November 14, 2022, 08:30:25 PM
just like you, I am attracted to using FTX because they cover part of the fees for erc20 transactions and it really helps me. Moreover, they also have very low btc withdrawal fees.
The perceived benefits and convenience are outweighed by the risks of using a CEX, and it doesn't have to be a bad experience that would make you realize that you shouldn't keep your funds on a centralized exchange, it's a common advice here and on some other crypto platforms.

Do research for some DEXes or P2P platforms which can serve as a medium of exchange without the risk of losing your privacy or your funds.
1444  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security risks of BSV hardfork; Wright trying to add the same to Bitcoin on: November 14, 2022, 08:24:41 PM
I've always wanted to ask; rather than being reactive to the accusations and suits made by CSW, why not the Bitcoin community be proactive and sue first? If there are civil cases accusing him of impersonation and forgery, couldn't that limit how much cases he can create?
Has this been done before?

This is worrisome, but I hope that if it's the case, larger pockets - MicroStrategy, Grayscale, COPA - would chip in. This would at least help Bitcoin (and those companies' investments).
I doubt they would, and if they did, there would be a limit to how much they can squeeze out to support law suits.
1445  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What should you know about P2P on: November 12, 2022, 05:10:42 AM
When I first entered the cryptocurrency world, I was very worried about how to do the transactions. I went to various Facebook groups for transactions and messaged.
What year was this?
Except you're taking about before 2011/2012, I see no reason why one should go to a social platforms like Facebook to transact with total strangers, with the high risk of getting scammed and zero protection against it happening
P2P transactions now occur mostly over a platform, and not by the roadside directly between two people. This platform acts as an intermediary, and it being centralized or decentralized would influence the level of privacy and autonomy the user has over the funds being transacted.

• About the cost of transactions being reduced in P2P, this would also depend on the mediating platform.
1446  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: None active projects on social media on: November 11, 2022, 07:39:43 AM
Short answer: Yes

Long answer: Customer relations is a very important aspect of a project. If there is little or no activity on social media, which is an vital aspect of communicating with customers.

An inactive social profile could mean no progress going on behind the scenes as projects are meant to announce milestones and achievements on the road map. It could also mean that you would not get prompt help if you have some issues which customer service should help with
1447  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin survived a lot more than one Exchange going bankrupt - Remember that on: November 11, 2022, 07:13:03 AM
Zooming out of the chart helps to put everything into perspective, when we are faced with dips such as these. On a 24 hour or 2 week chart, it looks significant, but when you check the last 3 months to one year, you would see it's just an opportunity to buy more at relatively cheaper prices.
The reality is everyone is not going to hodl, many would panic sell. Some of those would learn and re enter the market at a later time, with a better mindset.
1448  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Principles of Bitcoin on: November 11, 2022, 04:43:03 AM
But is it really possible to not use and exchange?  How can you convert your Bitcoin to cash then?  Or how can you buy Bitcoin with your cash if you do not use an exchange?  Isn't it too much to advise people to not use an exchange and isn't it much better to advise them to not leave their cryptocurrency in an exchange nor use it as a wallet in keeping our cryptocurrency?
As pooya87 pointed out. When advices like this come up, there is a silent 'centralized' before the term exchanges, so it becomes, do not keep your bitcoins in a centralized exchange, cause with them, you do not own the private keys and give up custody to the exchange platform and are subject to their terms and conditions.

P2P platforms on the other hand, have an open and decentralized model to mediate between transactions, without the user needing to give up custody.
1449  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How does my Trezor wallet work? on: November 11, 2022, 04:37:00 AM
3) The bitcoin network checks out the specifics and decides the transfer request is valid.  The network moves the bitcoins from send to receive.

4) Sometime later ( how much later? ) my computer / wallet_send gets a response verifying the transfer.

And then

5) How does wallet_receive learn that its bitcoin address has received the goods.  Must it be on-line at the time of the send?  I suspect not.  So how long after the send can it be put online and get the message.
• Yes, nodes verify that the unspent transaction output involved in the current transaction are in the address(es) initiating the transaction.

• Do you mean how much later for the transaction to be confirmed and added to the mempool awaiting confirmation by miners? Doesn't take long at all.

• No, the wallet does not have to be online at the time. There are block explorers (like blockchair) that one can use the check the balance of a address or to monitor a particular transaction ID.

A query is a question, an inquiry.  If my computer makes a query to the trezor, then how does my computer / trezor know how many bitcoins are in the specified account?
Your public key shows the amount of bitcoins available on that address.
1450  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Logo on: November 11, 2022, 12:57:01 AM
So this makes it a sort of anniversary to celebrate the launch of the logo as we know it today.
Haven't really paid attention to the origin of the Bitcoin logo up till this point, but it's a topic worth discussing, considering it's relevance in the spread of Bitcoin, of which images play a vital role in marketing.

Tried searching for more references on the origin of the logo and any information which could have been missed in the articles shared, but I'm yet to find any at this point in time.
Could there be some other unidentified creator who contributed to the design?
1451  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can someone teach me where have High Return Invest Program on: November 09, 2022, 09:55:39 PM
Do not set yourself up to get requests from scammers.
The quest for high return investment, particularly in a short period of time would likely get you swindled.

• If it's too good to be true, then it's not,
• Do your own research. Asking for basic investment advice would attract scammers to you,
• Always view everything as a scam, until proven otherwise.
1452  Economy / Economics / Re: Investing against 2024 on: November 09, 2022, 09:37:05 PM
I advise you put reasonable capital on bitcoin and few funds in altcoin.
I advice you do not give investment advise to others. You can instead give them you technical or fundamental analysis and encourage them to their own research and decide whether or not to out money into an asset or not.
1453  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: List to terminologies every newbie should know. on: November 09, 2022, 08:55:12 PM
The posted links are just lists of relatively popular terms and not really something of imperative value to a newbie in the Bitcoin space. I would even argue that a huge chunk of what's on that list are just there for the purpose of getting picked up noreby search engines and not to educate anyone.

The forum has a search option which one can use to check what has been posted before, as many topic ideas have already at one point or the other discussed on the forum.
1454  Other / Meta / Re: Could This Help To Reduce Spam? on: November 08, 2022, 07:17:32 PM
I had to quickly head over to the gambling section to check how many threads will fall under this category.

For the Main Gambling board;

I found just one thread in the first page which goes beyond 1000 pages.

On the Gambling discussion child board;
I identified 6 of such threads in the first and second page on the board.

The way I see it, not counting signatures in this threads anymore would just push spammers to post on other threads and the cycle continues till those ones gets above 1k pages. Rinse and repeat again.
I'm "not sure" if this would be effective.
1455  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Birth of a Cycle (Current Bitcoin 4 year cycle is about to end) on: November 08, 2022, 07:04:22 PM
Definitely cannot watch the full video at one go, but with the first 5 to 10 minutes, it looks promising to be an educative video, and not one which is simply made to be sensational and attract lots of attention. A YouTuber who I can revisit for the contents.

Every speculation on what stage we are in, with the transition from bull to bear, and back to bull could potentially be correct and has it's own merit. I cannot determine if we have seen the bottom and now only have one way to go, or if there would be future drops, or if we would have a dead cat bounce and then a prolonged dip.

Using halving as a metric is one way to look at Bitcoin as a whole, and this involves trader sentiment, but is not limited to it.
1456  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: US Department of Justice announces historical BTC seizure (Silk Road related) on: November 07, 2022, 08:06:03 PM
Would governments and enforcement spend the time and effort going after someone who stole $500000 that is now worth $1 or would they just let it slide.

Due to the Silk Road relationship I can see them going after it no matter what, but who knows.
Could depend on how far gone investigations were before the token imploded and lost value. If it was a the tail end, it's worth seeing to the end, when you consider that the scammer could be involved in other possible scams which have not been reported. But earlier in the investigation doesn't seem to be worth it. The focus could also shit to some shady deals going on in the token which caused such a drop in value.

All these would not matter, if there's evidence that the scammer converted to some other asset when the token had value. Cause now, they could have, half a million of stolen funds in BTC or USD.
1457  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Get Bitcoin Holdings for your child from infant. on: November 07, 2022, 08:00:18 PM
Someone who is struggling with patience needed to wait on an investment to mature, would struggle to hold onto an asset for their children over a number of years.
Bitcoin should ideally be non custodian, so they would just be buying a hardware wallet, funding that with a certain amount of Bitcoin and storing it securely, also backing up the seedphrase. This means they (the parents) always has access to the bitcoins and can spend it at any time, which they would do, if they don't have the mental fortitude to let an asset grow.

If one cannot effectively wait out an investment to grow, then maybe they should not be investing at all.
1458  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: As a newbie how can i invest in Bitcoin on: November 07, 2022, 05:22:08 PM
Though am a beginner and I found this forum interested, and I believe that it's the best platform for me,and I still don't understand the modes of operations and ethics and kind of investment on this platform.
Read through;
• https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0
To get an understanding of how the forum functions, check the above thread and also visit the different stickie threads on boards to get a feel of what posts are accepted there and what's not.

Also, the forum is not an investment platform, and there are no kinds of investments accepted here. We only discuss constructively on topics.

so my fellow members, pls put a brother true,if am too early to invest or not
"You" know your level of understanding on the specific investment and as such determine whether or not it's too early to invest.
You need a bit more than basic knowledge of what a product is about, how to buy, and how to safely secure that asset, as well as how to do your due diligence in research to ensure its legitimate.
1459  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are different way to earn money through Bitcoin on: November 07, 2022, 12:37:33 PM
You can earn Bitcoin without investing fiat in it, but that does not classify as free bitcoins.
Monetary investments is not the only form of investments; Time is a valuable capital and was what people invested in the early days through faucets, which are relatively not valuable now.

Building skills is a good way to learn, and with Bitcoin being a means of receiving payment, it can be used to receive payment for whatever skills you are marketing; this is not free earnings.

Even airdrops of shitcoin are not gotten for free, as you have to follow some social media accounts or like a few posts before you can earn them.
1460  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin vs. Altcoins – projected Marketcap on: November 05, 2022, 09:05:50 PM
Predictability of the adjusted market capitalisation means if it’s possible for us to find out if the amount of a certain cryptocurrency in circulation will be known in the future. We will need the number of coins in order to be able to classify a certain market capitalisation in the future.
On my scale of criterion when checking a cryptocurrency or new project, market capitalization is usually low on the list on what matters when deciding whether or not to buy that coin or token.
But knowledge on how to check predictable market capitalization would help save a lot of time in checking out shitcoins; if it is not possible to calculate the market cap, due to infinite supply or uncapped supply, then it is not worth considering at all.

If the amount of coins in circulation of a cryptocurrency cannot be predicted properly even in 20 years, such a cryptocurrency can be considered dangerous or unpredictable and this is an important reason to avoid this cryptocurrency. Because Altcoin developers already know why they are not disclosing such important information. Wink
99% of altcoin are already shitcoins. Clouds of secrecy around the functioning of a project is highly indicative that what you're looking at on your screen is a scam.
