1421  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will there ever be any safe centralised exchange ? on: November 22, 2022, 05:32:03 PM
Does it mean that these centralised exchanges that are in existence lacks the capability to safeguard assets and funds after attracting investors and traders to their platforms for engagement and activities?
You do not "vouch" for the reliability of a 3rd party platform. One common quote here is 'not to trust, but to verify", and this applies to not trusting an exchange (be it centralized or decentralized) with the safeguarding of your assets.
There are so many risks that exists besides that of a hack or a breach.

At first identifying the problem is a basic course for rendering solutions. If these problems are not identified immediately by the exchanges for quick remedy then who's to be blamed for it. Do they really do constant check on their service to know their lapses, if they do, do they identify it immediately with utmost attention? Do they do a constant check and evaluation on their staff and  mechanisms.
These are not questions you can find answers to here. You can do your research on the different exchanges, but would only get information on what's publicly available.

With all these said, what are your opinions on this subject matter as I feel this needs to be looked into for possible measures to be taken for  so as to further prevent or minimise the rate at which exchanges get hacked or being careless with investors and traders funds.
The solution is to keep your money out of centralized platforms.
1422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: To those who do not care about their privacy. Why? on: November 22, 2022, 04:43:19 AM
You would likely not get an answer directly from those who do store their funds on an exchange, or you'll get the generic one of how it's being used to trade and it's expensive to transfer between exchange and wakey several times.

Convenience I guess if I were to name it? They choose to leave some aspects of their lives in the hands of a third party for a few immediate benefits that they can experience, one of which is the personal handling of their assets.
And this is only an imagined benefit which does not really exist in reality.
I find it way more easier to create an electrum wallet and back it up securely, all of which can be done under a few minutes, than to create an account on exchange, toggle back and forth from my email to the exchange to verify that, and then have to pass a KYC process which could take anything from a few minutes to a couple of days. When making a transaction, one would also need to toggle back and forth from their email to the homepage.

The perceived convince really does not exist in practice. I would be much safer handling my assets myself, than leaving it with a third-party, but that's just me
1423  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you agree that an employer should hire employees who are smarter than him? on: November 21, 2022, 09:39:26 PM
Life is not so linear. There isn't such thing as a smart number and people are like in a line over that.
...
Correctly said.
There is no universal scale which determines who is smarter than another and the degree of said difference. People have their strengths and weakness and as an employee, or business owner, your job is to utilize the strengths of people you employ and find ways to minimize the effect of their weakness.

There are key factors to a business and as an owner, you cannot be equally skilled in the various areas. A great project design would need good marketing, and this involves hiring people smarter than you in that field, same with finances, Human Resource, customer service etcetera.

What are the possible intentions behind doing this? Isn't their fear that these smart employees can steal ideas from office or get client details and then start their own companies? What is your view regarding this?
There are so many facets to running a business and as an owner, you choose what slide someone gets to see, which is relevant to the execution of their roles.
1424  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Share your Crypto experience. on: November 21, 2022, 09:25:31 PM
I have now been investing in Crypto for 10 months and its been a test of patience thats for sure, feel like I have entered in a bad year with lots going on causing these bad times and low prices we are currently seeing.
It depends on how you look at the market.
A good year is mostly referring to one in which the price is spiking up and if you enter at that time, it's very likely you would be buying at or close to the top, but when you enter earlier, you have the opportunity to accumulate at lower prices, building says all the way up.

My portfolio is currently 36% down And feel I have no choice but to hold till the next bull run which is hopefully only 12-18 months away. I will continue to DCA but in recent weeks I have slowed down having gone from investing every week to every 2 weeks as the prices just keep falling.
• The next bull run could be more than 2 years away.
• Drop in prices should be an opportunity to buy more at cheaper prices rather than slowing down.

I am just wondering if those who have been involved with crypto for a few years at least could share their experience and offer any advice for those new like myself?
• Invest as much as you can spare.
That's the most important advice to navigate the market and avoid selling at a loss. If you invest smartly, you can easily hodl through different market conditions than someone who takes out money they need or takes a loan to invest
• Also, keep your assets out of exchanges or custodian platforms.
1425  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin Talk on Telegram on: November 21, 2022, 06:25:37 PM
You do not need approval to create a bitcointalk niche on some other chat based platform, AFAIK, there's at least one of such communities which is on discord, created by Cyrus.

Telegram has millions of users and if forum users are interested they can also join in as well.
Attempting to replicate the merit and signature system would depend on how much interest it generates. It could be some other way for users interested in Bitcoin, but not so much in the forum layout, to get to experience it on some other platform.
1426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright's lawsuit against Kraken on: November 21, 2022, 06:20:05 PM
Attention seeking behaviour at its finest from CSW. Using a sensational amount in the suit might just be a way to show that there still might be profit at the end of his sham campaign and attract investments.

When does it all end?
1427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Crypto survive? on: November 21, 2022, 06:21:26 AM
I worry that this may be the beginning of the end to many long lasting projects and potentially bitcoin itself... This crypto winter has at least another year to run its course and we are still watching the FTX fallout unravel.
We've heard the death of Bitcoin more times than we can count on both hands and yet here; Bitcoin is still at a higher price than over 60% of any of its previous prices.
FTX fallout is a crash and burn being repeated in different forms for individuals who keep trusting platforms over self custody, it's not the first and would not be the last.

Anyone out there have words of encouragement regarding the future of crypto? Anything the future holds to look forward to?
The future of crypto as a whole would largely be a switch of the current shitcoins to different ones which would again attract newer investors and the cycle continues. Majority of the current altcoins on the market would not exist in a few years and would be replaced by newer ones.

1BTC would always be equal to 1BTC.
1428  Economy / Speculation / Re: What Will Be bottom Of BTC in 2022 Year ( Current Price= $16000 ) on: November 21, 2022, 06:10:28 AM
that is alarming cause if it goes down below 1550 dollars than it might crash for almost 2000 dollars more and that's my guess and I think that it might crash further too.
While there is no analysis to suggest this is going to happen, it's not an alarming situation. Drops are part of the market, as much as price rises are. If we drop below $15k, it's an opportunity to buy at cheaper prices.

And also 2022 is going to slow down and so what are you thinking about what will be the lowest price of Bitcoin in 2022 Fiscal Year.
Doesn't matter, neither does the highest price of 2022.
Just, do your research, buy and then hodl, if you consider it purely as an investment. And if not, buy and use it for regular transactions when you can.
1429  Other / Off-topic / Re: Service legitimacy question: Wells Fargo account on: November 20, 2022, 08:26:58 PM
Almost certainly an illegitimate business. Passing funds which you do not know its source is a huge risk to you and could possibly make you an accomplice to a crime.

Not worth the risk in my opinion.
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Still think bitcoin is coming to an end? Then you must read this <3 on: November 20, 2022, 08:18:54 PM
If people still gonna argue about bitcoin's prices, its trust based on some failed exchange or few bad set backs then I think they have not understood the bitcoin really well.
If they do not understand Bitcoin very well, then it's safer they do not invest in it at all. Creating a list to show the strength of Bitcoin is good, but anyone who cannot do a basic research to find out how the network operates and maybe zoom out of the chart to see previous oricae actions and reasons for them does not deserve to buy in at discounted prices.
They would be back in a few months or years when the market is bulling and fomo in.

The price manipulation that we are seeing in the market is due to it's use just as trading instrument where millionaire and billionaires are taking it too personally and trading the volume in shorting the market.
Price actions are most likely not the result of market manipulation. It's a volatile commodity, so its value would remain speculative, at least for a few years.

Guess I better start sitting down to pee if I'm to take home the miss bitcointalk title lol. If I win I'll need a brand new dress to strut my stuff in.
A new dress would be a good way to spend he prize money lol.
There is normally so much privacy around the forum, that knowing the gender of members is quite tricky.

1433  Other / Meta / Re: The resurrection of an old topic. on: November 19, 2022, 04:41:38 AM
I have a question, what if an old topic is raised and a discussion starts, and users actively quote the OP giving a targeted answer to his post, don't people see the date the thread was created?
They either do not check the date or do not care about it, but are only motivated to make more ooss and fulfill their post quota for the week. This is correct for most of the cases, although there would be outliers where the conversation was rightly bumped up and users are contributing new and relevant pieces of information to any who is still interested in the topic.

Does the forum need such topics? And how do we stop their discussion? Is it fair to complain about someone who quotes the author, knowing full well that quite a lot of time has passed? Is anyone interested in answers to a question that was asked a very long time ago?
• No, not after it has been extensively discussed.
• Report such thread to the mods, suggesting it should be locked.
• This should be considered on a case by case basis. Some threads are still relevant 2 years after they were first posted and some discussions remain open even after much time has passed and much has been said. But for majority of the cases, it doesn't add anything new to the forum or to the discussion.
1434  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: St. Kitts and Nevis legalize Bitcoin Cash (BCH) as a means of payment on: November 18, 2022, 08:17:40 PM
The government's decision of St. Kitts and Nevis to make BCH the legal tender for payments in the country would be bullish news for the future of Bitcoin. In my opinion, the more countries that legalize the use of Cryptocurrency as a transaction tool, the brighter the future of BTC will be.
On the contrary, governments legalizing shitcoins like BitcoinCash could impede adoption as citizens would associate failure if the currency to pick up to Bitcoin, which is the leading cryptocurrency. Altcoins and CBDCs alike are just distractions, which I don't believe has any significant, long lasting effect on the trajectory of Bitcoin, in terms of adoption and popularity.
If you consider the country which has adopted Bitcoin directly, it really has not had much of an effect on the market, and that's a good thing in my opinion; government's policies does not influence the market, it's actions of traders that do.
1435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do what is right to be happy on: November 18, 2022, 07:25:29 PM
everyone want decentralization but never know that bitcoin is the only route to thelis while others are centralized.
Decentralization does not involve holding multiple assets (mostly shitcoins) in a correlated market. A smart way to diversify is to pick the best of different industries and niches and buy in, this way you have assets which can have varying degrees of success across different times.
I advice Bitcoin holders to experiment in other sectors, but I never advice them on altcoins or tokens to buy.
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I hardly have up to $100 again in all my fait bank accounts since I joined BTT on: November 18, 2022, 07:18:47 PM
Like play, I realized I hardly have $100 (conversion) as my total fiat balance in all my bank accounts, over 99.99% of my money is now in Bitcoin. I was slightly using Bitcoin before joining BTT, but this forum has made me a proudly addicted user of Bitcoin (payment, trading and investments). This is a good addition because I am making more money with them unlike the fiat in banks that will just be useless for me and useful for the bank.
99% is quite a high number, some would argue too high to have in a highly speculative asset as it could swing in many directions quickly, due to market forces of demand supply.
I would however not knock down the strategy at all, people learn to take more risks the more they get their feet wet in an investment and of course, when they profit from it. It is also an easier decision to make when your country's Fiat is depreciating quickly in value.

This thinking is not wise at all, so what will happen if you need money for something urgent, such as unexpected bills, a family visit, a sudden accident, torrential rains, a hurricane and other environmental conditions, a fire near you?
If they had a good buy in time, they could easily liquidate if an emergency calls for the funds, but you are ultimately right; ideally, only amounts you can afford to lose should be held in high risk assets.
1437  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Can I clean them up myself? on: November 17, 2022, 08:30:53 PM
I wish users can delete their own posts themselves.
In majority of the boards, users can delete their own post themselves, with only a few exceptions on how long you have to wait to delete them.

I got better at posting as time goes by and after going back to read how it all started I don't like some of the posts I made when I was still a newbie, how can I delete them and make my activity reduce?
That's the normal progress of users. You learn the more you read and contribute, and learning is an unending curve; same way you don't like some of your previous posts now, you might not like some of your current posts soon, but it all shows you're making progress.

Any repercussions doing this?
• Posts gaps in threads and on your profile,
• Potential activity drop.
1438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Security risks of BSV hardfork; Wright trying to add the same to Bitcoin on: November 15, 2022, 11:37:00 AM
Probably because legal cost could be very expensive.
The legal cost of defending his many accusations is also high and would likely cower many into silence rather than challenging his lies.

There was/is at least one lawsuit against CSW, initiated by COPA, but afaik the topic there is only the copyright on the Bitcoin whitepaper.
Maybe more will come after that one is won (and the legal costs recovered).
Couldn't find muh recent information on the case, besides a failed attempt by CSW to have it "struck out".
1439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchanges or platforms with too good offers. Be careful on: November 15, 2022, 11:18:23 AM
Previously, I used bisq several times, but because I was tempted by the low FTX fee, I moved there. I should have realized that it is not good to keep funds in CEX for too long
Different users have different reasons for forfeiting their privacy and autonomy to a third-party. Could be low fees, faster transactions, convenient exchanges etcetera, but as I mentioned earlier and which many users have found out, the risk is greater when compared to these perceived positives.

You would not give coneone your wallet to hold, regardless how reputable they look or the promises they make, so why would you allow third parties control your funds and allow you use it at their discretion?

Unfortunately, most people would forget about the incident in a few days to weeks and all the warnings to avoid CEX would not be a trending topic anymore.
1440  Other / Meta / Re: Account hacked on: November 14, 2022, 09:22:38 PM
While trying to properly sign a message, you should know that having access to the original email address used to open your account helps to also streamline the recovery process.

Ensure that is the account used to send the recovery email, and let it enough time for a response. The process is much faster than it was before, but it would still require a little time for it to be checked and you'll get a response with further instructions.
