2421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: January 26, 2023, 07:07:18 PM
in the event that we might be able to have some faith that Bukele is a good actor and is not going to rug-pull the whole situation.. which is seeming to be the presumptions that you want to make stompix?

What I want to do is finally make people realize that you have to weigh on how much truth and how much lies are hiding behind everyone's tweets and actions, no matter if his name is Bukele or Warren Buffet! Just as how you must verify and not blindly trust a bitcoin transaction, just as how you can be your own bank and not trust an IOU card from a bank, it's the same when believing a lying piece of something like el Presidente in question!  I hate populism, I hate leaders that claim all kinds of grand realizations and projects unseen by the world, I had my full of it in the communist era, I know how to spot when someone is just making claims on how great things are, how great the economy is doing and his televised shitshow gets cuts because we have a blackout, the hot water is colder than the cold one and the gas had less pressure than the one from a farting pussycat!

What annoys me even more, is that exactly here, where most of us are done with politicians and their promises, there is an entire horde who has magically found out that when you stick your tongue down some politician's ass and you pass the 30 cm mark it stops smelling like shit and it becomes chocolate flavor, or whatever since I don't see any other reason for anyone kissing his ass that much like some (not you of course) do here!

The 200MW geothermal well? There is no such in the whole world, and the one in the filming was already 10 years old!
The mining operation? One 10-second clip with (at that time) 3 yo gear that nobody has heard a word about it after! Have you?
The green energy in Salvador that will allow mining? You have a fucking FSRU ship docked in the main port pumping LNG!
The 1 billion city constructed with only half of that since the rest would be invested in BTC ? It became so ridiculous even they had to come back on it and add it's actually more than 7 billions. Where are the rest of the 6 billion going to come in a 28 billion-a-year economy? Crickets!

And despite this, despite every single thing going this way the cultist still never even dare to look if the idol has hidden something from them!
This is the world some want to create?  Count me out! This is not bitcoin, this is ass-licking and Twitter liking in hope of another 100$ in gain on the btc price!

Is that better or worse?  I recognize that you are hinging on the "paid in full" claim as if that might be deceptive to say that it was paid in full when it was actually just rolled over.

Of course, it sounds better, but, do we know at what rates he got those loans, how much will he pay for them?
Because it might be a genius move or it might be some idiot rolling the loans, cause he won't be president forever, get me one another mandate, and then who cares, let the next guy figure it out!

That's why we verify numbers and data and we don't jump to conclusions before we have them all!
Well, some of us!
2422  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 26, 2023, 06:25:48 PM
If just 50 is the difference then I wouldn't mind getting the loan to be honest but that is not the case all around the world, especially in developing countries so the mortgage amount is at least double or triple the rent amount and also the job security is comparatively less that is why its wise to choose the investment overpaying for an asset for the entire lifetime.

Allow me to not believe the triple difference not when it comes to developing countries.!
I don't know that much about costs when it comes to developing countries but all the economic reasons for such a price difference are making no sense whatsoever because it would make it simply not profitable for anyone to hold their property and simply just sell it.

Not targeted at you, not to offend anyone in the Philippines but I choose this country since we could get some feedback for it from someone living there so, here we have it, the first google result when hitting "rent or sale"
https://www.dotproperty.com.ph/2-bedroom-condo-for-rent-in-marco-polo-residences-apas-cebu_652487
https://www.dotproperty.com.ph/condo-for-sale-in-marco-polo-residences-apas-cebu_617640

Rent ₱ 65,000 / month  Sale: ₱ 12,000,000  The difference is x184!
And this is far better than the difference here in Europe when it can go to much more the further you go into the western zone and far
The median rent in New York was $2,750 for a single bedroom the price $675,000, x240, see how close those numbers are even if we talk one world apart?
2423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: El Salvador has become the first country to make #Bitcoin legal tender! 🇸🇻 on: January 26, 2023, 05:46:54 PM
At least now we know through the latest tweet from the president of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele. that El salvador is able to pay or pay off the bonds that have matured for january even along with the interest.

And not a word on the $450m they took in a loan with Central American Bank for Economic Integration and the other $100m they took from the Inter-American Development Bank to pay $604 million in bond maturity.

But yeah, let's talk about 800 paid in full when in reality it's just $604 million paid with the help of getting 550 million in loans!
And from 800 we're down to 54!

Man, Bukele is playing everyone for fools just with some tweets, all it has to do is post the BTC sign and everyone stops questioning any of his statements. When was the last time somebody asked this guy to prove they actually bought those coins and they do have them? Fairly normal to ask Binance to do so, but god forbids we're asking the idol to show proof of any of his claims!
Don't trust, verify my ass!

(*) I guess that there are a lot of people that benefited from the initial 30$ in bitcoin for downloading the Chivo wallet, and that therefore are considered ex-users (thus not engrossing the "never used it" segment).
/quote]

I don't understand why is so hard to ask two simple questions in those surveys!
Have you used any bitcoins funds excluding the 30$ airdrop during this year? Have you used your airdrop money?
The simple difference between those percentages would tell more than any other question could do!
2424  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 26, 2023, 05:17:42 PM
Simple solution, rent it while you're away!
You move to a different city, rent the house and with the rent, you pay the current one, it's pretty simple!

It can't be that simple. When you've got most of your stuff in your house, you just can't rent it to somebody else. Not only are your furniture and appliances the only things left, you also have your precious collections and paintings, books, PC, bicycle, and so on. You can't guarantee everything will still be in perfect shape when you come back.

Yes, it's exactly that simple!

You live in a rented house, you move to a new city you have collectibles and paintings and books you take them with you.
You live in your house, you move to a new city, and you have collectibles and paintings and books you take them with you.
It's exactly the same, there is no difference whatsoever!

The only difference would appear when you have a different lifestyle that would mean you buy more stuff, you have cats and dogs, you have a more personal thing but at that point, isn't it obvious that you're not the guy always on the move that needs to be free all the time? It's like a guy who has been backpacking for 20 years talking about how problematic it would be for him to have a 4 room bedroom all filled with stuff! People that want to make their house comfy and so on, filling it with things and designing it with only their own taste in mind are not the ones that will hope on the first train!
2425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CoinCapMarket.com is phishing of coinmarketcap.com on: January 26, 2023, 04:21:52 PM
The phishing domain is almost same when you will have a first look but you can see the difference too.

This is weird:
- with my first VPN IP (czech) it redirected me to a parked page
- trying to archive it gets redirected to google https://archive.ph/SErdb
- with a US IP I get this

But that aside, how did he end on that site, even whens searching fro CoinCapMarket google shows Coinmarketcap as the first result and the scam website is not shown in any results!

2426  Economy / Economics / Re: Russian Gas ban - A problem for Europe or suicide for Russia? on: January 26, 2023, 04:12:08 PM
They have some of the best ICBMs in the world. I guess they need less than 1% of that number to completely annihilate any life form from this planet.

Yeah they had
- the best tanks in the world
- the best planes in the world
- the best missiles in the world
- the best soldiers in the world

And despite what an illiterate analyst from Kugumbababumba University told us back in March about conquering the whole of Ukraine seems like none, absolutely none of the above were actually true. And since the same analyst who thought there were 40 days in a month is telling us how those are the best ICBM in the world, it's highly probably Russia has not a single rocket actually capable of lift-off, probably they will be more scared of trying to launch one than their adversaries.

This is just fear-mongering, they will not launch one because they don't want everyone to die, what they desperately want is to find a way of losing it without losing their positions and their money, if you think a bunch of cowards who hide in their bunkers who have not worked once in their lifetime and are having billions in wealth, used to be treated like kings will want to end it all just so the other side gets hurt it clear you have no idea what you're talking about. This works only for brainwashed terrorists that had nothing good in life, owned just their clothes, afford a meal a day, and hopped that by blowing up and taking someone with them they would live a different life in the afterlife, this is exactly the opposite, those guys don't want to also die! So, all those nukes are just fear-mongering!

While I do agree that Ukraine massively attacking infrastructure on Russian soil wouldn't help ending this war and it would probably make Russia retaliate via tactical nukes

Yeah? Remember the threats and how Kherson is Russian soil, the referendum, the whole mumbo jumbo? Crimean Bridge?
Bleah, Russia is just threats, the only time they act is when somebody is weaker than them or they think that's the case, which is not the case here!

Meanwhile, since the subject is about Gas and not nuclear, another step for the failure of freezing Europe:

Gas is 40% cheaper than it was a year ago before the war, deposits are at 76%, Germany will probably avoid recession completely, and the CPI index has gone to 50.2 for the first time since July, meaning that manufacturing activity is increasing!
2427  Economy / Reputation / Re: SBF-Ross Ulbricht on: January 26, 2023, 12:28:37 AM
They cannot be compared, but its illogical one is in prison and one is free...

Madoff was also released on bail and everyone was saying the same thing, why was he released, politics, he is worse than criminals. Then he got a 150 years prison sentence and died in prison! So why don't we wait first to see how SBF's trial ends and then compare how each was judged and punished (if!).

2428  Economy / Economics / Re: Biggest problems with Banks stablecoins can solve this on: January 25, 2023, 09:53:50 PM
~

It's a lot more of 'hedging' than 'investing' in this case. An investment is mostly referred to something whereas you expect profit.

That's why the "", but some do think of those like investments and in some extreme cases you could even make a profit, so not only you're not losing purchasing power but since the whole thing is going down the drain each of your $ is worth more in that crumbling economy, land, houses, almost everything that is tied to the economy in that particular area. But, not the ideal scenario and not the way I want to live my life.

As long as its market value is changing, it could be considered as an investment because there is a profit being anticipated. Problem is, in fiat and fiat based digital currency (inline) increases only depending with economic situation and is not based on demand directly or what not.

The economic situation triggers the demand, and a meltdown in crappy economies triggers a rush to a safe haven, it's almost the same as in BTC but with a twist, while some try to escape a devaluating currency to USD, with BTC more look for gains now, not protecting their wealth. So, demand that triggers value, vs constant value that triggers demand. Quite the opposite of what one would have expected.

2429  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: 2023 Diff thread now opened. on: January 25, 2023, 09:41:22 PM
They look dope, not sure how do they dispense the heat, I see no fans!, also they say it can hold 2*MicorBt miners or 1 Antminer, wouldn't it be wiser to load it with 2 WhatsMiner instead? the cost is a bit high, probably in the 1.5k range with shipping if not more, so diving the cost by 2 could be a game changer if this is going to be used on a larger scale.

Also what about the liquid, is it included or do you have to your own?

The fans are right in the front, behind the grille, they seem large enough to disperse the heat from 3000w.

As for the cooling, it's included, 35l immersion fluid.

So dump them and mine with no worries, at least on paper! The price is a bit meh for me, but each with his own needs and heat/noise issues.

I am trying to rush ASAP to fill what's left in the farm space, the electricity infrastructure is no joke, it sucks a ton of liquidity, we just bought a 30M cable for like 0.2BTC  Huh, it's a terrible time to be doing any infrastructure work, it's good we did most of it during the bull market but should have done better, hope someone reads this and benefit from it, if you are planning on building a farm, plan ahead, and build all the infrastructure in the bull market, even the things you are not going to use for years.

Far better when you're building it when there is no crisis and all the logistics are messed up, we paid 100 Euros for 10m wire mesh fences a year back because we had to patch it but otherwise at those prices you were better of with no fences, no walls nothing. Prices for most of those things have gone down but it still needs a bit of time till they arrive at normal levels.

2430  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Intersango May Owe You Money on: January 25, 2023, 09:17:56 PM
look up the. case NORMAN v STRATEMAN. This was a lawsuit in the California Superior Court. If you look at the dockets you can see the two Intersango co-founders spent a million dollars each duking it out in this legal battle. It finally went to trial. You don't think maybe some updates came out?

https://www.govinfo.gov/app/details/USCOURTS-cand-4_16-cv-03587/USCOURTS-cand-4_16-cv-03587-4

2431  Economy / Economics / Re: Vietnam GDP grows 8.02% in 2022; fastest expansion in 25 years on: January 25, 2023, 09:00:37 PM
Vietnam's GDP was 362,6, 8% of that means nearly 30 billion, if we take for example Germany, it will take the German economic growth of only 0.6% to match that, for the US it will be enough a 0.12! Percentages are misleading sometimes, well, most of the time.

The U.S. and Germany have relatively larger economies than Vietnam but with what resources they have they've been able to achieve this. There are other countries with the same size of economy as Vietnam but they could not achieve this.

And since the real numbers are in, Germany just grew 1.9%, at the size of their economy, at $4.03 trillion that's $76.57 billion.
Vietnam grew 8%, as I said above, it means only 30 billion!

So despite one growing 8% and one just 1.9%, the difference between the size of their economy went up instead of decreasing.
The numbers become even worse if we look at it from a per capita base since Vietnam also has 1/6 more people than Germany.

Vietnam has a cost of production below China, they also have gigantic inflation as I understand it which brings into question the quality of any measured growth as it might just be a nominal gain.

Vietnam has lower inflation than both the EU and the US right now, they did have problems in the past over the crisis but right now it's manageable. Besides, all GDP growth counts inflation every single one of those is inflation adjusted.
2432  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 25, 2023, 08:36:33 PM
Actually more and more look for the cons too, plus usually the first wage, by far is not big enough for the bank's liking.
The bank looks for stable job, hence at least 6 months there... the reality is not exactly like the newspapers depict it  Wink

The fact that there are so many homeowners here is (also) caused by the fact that soon after the old regime was abolished, the people was able to buy the flats they were living in, and the prices were extremely low. Else the percentage would look awful, actually.

Yeah, I looked a bit at the statistics and the whole thing becomes less and less rosy

Quote
In 2021, the highest overcrowding rates were observed in Latvia (41.3 %), Romania (41.0 %) and Bulgaria (37.9 %),
At the other end of the scale were Poland and Romania (both 1.1 rooms), Croatia, Latvia and Slovakia (2020 data) (all with 1.2 rooms on average per person).

So ownership but overcrowded and small apartments, having almost 1 less room for each person compared to Spain does look really bad, but it the end it all comes down to money probably not to taste and life planning.

Let's assume the house you want to buy has mortgage of 600 dollars per month but the rent for same house is 400 so here is what you should do, just choose rent and think you have to pay mortgage every month which means you have 200 dollars extra and you have to keep investing the amount every month into something with decent returns and low risk as long as you can, so at the end of 10 years you may not own a house but the investment you made all those years along with the compounding effect you will have much more money than the worth of that house.

You see that's the problem with scenarios, when you set them so that the result points to what you want to achieve, one might ask himself, is the scenario actually true? What if the rent is 550 and the mortgage 600? What if your investment fails completely? And more importantly, what if the price of the house goes up?
In 2010 the price of an sqm in London was 4500, not it's above 7000!

So even with your scenario, you would have to turn every single of those $200 into $900 in order to keep up just with the housing price!
Do you think is doable for everyone?

To somebody who wants to change environment every now and then, though, owning a place might not be his/her cup of tea. That's probably me. Owning a house is not worth it if you're away for weeks or a month every now and then, or if your work requires you to travel and stay in different places for longer periods of time.

Simple solution, rent it while you're away!
You move to a different city, rent the house and with the rent, you pay the current one, it's pretty simple!
2433  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Air conditioning and miners on: January 25, 2023, 04:48:22 PM
As far as I know running s9j pro it runs 24 hours a day, and will provide you with something 46$ a day, and that's around 1900$ a month.

2021 wants its miner profits back!
I assume you're talking about the S19 pro since for an S9 the whole thing is ridiculous, but even so, the S19J Pro gets 100Th/s , at the current income of ≈ $ 0.0737 per TH/S that makes $7.37. So about, 1/6 of what you thought!

I went to engineering school and I learnt that air conditioners are very bad for electronics, there are times where I have to dry a electronic panel of either Laptop or LCD Tv before they start working,

I've been in a lot of offices, I've had my laptop around in a lot of meetings in AC fitted rooms, I have AC in my house at my other family members where I went with a lot of my laptops I've had around for 15 years but never, not even once did I have to dry the laptop for moisture collected inside! If you had something as bad didn't you have mold on the walls also?

Anyhow, looking at the other site you're promoting with that scammy EMDR pseudoscience, I have a feeling you have been selling some other things that were against PayPal policies.
2435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The one thing I still don't get about crypto and Tax on: January 25, 2023, 04:09:46 PM
But why the hell are the government taxing people on their profits when they aren't ready to take responsibility for their losses to fraud and theft?  Why the hell are they using the word " its unregulated " as an excuse but still take money from people?

So wait, is the government taking responsibility when you're mugged on the street, when you get scammed by a Nigerian prince or when you get one ounce less of weed than agreed from your dealer? Does the government somehow reimburse you if you lose your money in a stock market crash? Cause I've never heard of that!
You get taxed for any kind of profit, the government doesn't regulate walking dogs' schedules not does it emit licenses for it but if you earn 100$ a day from doing so you have to pay taxes because there are earnings and profits involved just like any other business!

So what happened, did we again fail to kill the Euro and the Eurozone?

https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/EURUSD=X/

Were all the fearmongers and the illiterate who have never set foot in Europe or can't even pinpoint it on a map wrong again?

Seems like the Euro is back where it was one year ago, the ECB hasn't destroyed the economies or skyrocketed the debt to unpayable levels, no crushing unemployment, and the economy has kept growing even adjusted with the inflation, so what conclusions should we draw out of this?
Maybe not everyone is cut to be an analyst or an economist. Just saying!

2437  Economy / Economics / Re: Comparing U.S. Federal Spending with Revenue - This is why fiat will fall on: January 25, 2023, 03:41:37 PM
American Government can just spend 40% more than the incomes, and no problem with that.

Perfectly right till this point!
You see, everything is working with no problem, the US hasn't defaulted even once, it keeps on going while every country that laughed at them found itself unable to pay its debt or ended as a shithole, and while the $ has died one hundred million times more than BTC everyone is rushing to buy $, not rubles, not rials not yuan!

And this is actually even funnier and getting funnier the more you dig down, BTC is growing and getting adopted because people trust BTC right? So, what's happening when Argentinian pesos, Turkish liras, Iranian rials, zimbabwe dollars, and all the others are exchanged for $, it means, what a surprise, people trust the $ more than any other currency in this world!

The day US was infected with capitalism and the rules kept changing for the wealthy minority was the day the downfall of the "empire" began.

Meanwhile in the real world:

Does that seem like the "petro dollar" is dying?

2438  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 1xbit scam with pictures proofment! on: January 25, 2023, 03:26:38 PM
If such a huge casino - directly related to 1XBET, i.e. such powers as FC BARCELONA and SERIE A wanted to cheat someone, it would be enough that it would take one bet per million dollars and not play with small users for $500.

Yeah right, and what does sponsorship have to do with it actively scamming users?
Remember this?

Scam a few thousand small users out of a few hundred with 1xbit and you have enough to cover all the publicity costs and run the 1xbet in some kind of "legit way", of course "legit"by 1xbit terms means just a little less scammy.
Which didn't help them as much as they are losing licenses right and left in the EU right now.

2439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two-edged sword for countries that banned Bitcoin on: January 24, 2023, 09:14:55 PM
It'd be purely arbitrary, and oppressive with a first look. Think of it like this: bitcoin is valuated at $10,000, and you buy 1 BTC. A month later, bitcoin is valuated at $20,000. That's 100% increase in unrealized gains. To take 15% (e.g.) of it, you send 0.15 BTC to the tax collector. Terrifying, huh?

That's the problem with it and that's why even the wealth tax on the super-rich proposed in the leftist of the leftist's states never got approved.
They are trying again but it will most likely fail just like back in 2020 since it has one major flaw, it's stupid!

If they can't find a way to do this for tangible assets that have a clearer market value and aren't that volatile, good luck trying this with bitcoin.

if I wanted to pay a guy I've never met before living in some secret country he doesn't want to reveal let's say $2000 for a GPU or some really expensive Alpaca socks, I wouldn't do it with BTC unless he agrees to an escrow I choose!
So tell me why he should trust you, for not reversing the transaction. You're a total stranger to him as well.

Exactly!
Merchants love final sales, and customers love credit card chargebacks, that's why every single payment has a niche, and you won't see crypto replacing those even if it allows you to "send" coins to the other side of the world in seconds. And even remittance payments are overblown, unless you have the coins and the receiver wants coins too, you will also encounter fees and delays and 3rd parties, that's why we still have empty blocks despite 14 million migrant workers in US alone.

If your citizens are rich, then so is the nation, if your citizens are poor, the government could be strong but the nation would be poorer. Remember, nations do not bankrupt like companies, they just become poorer nations. So if you ban bitcoin, you are causing a lot of people in your nation to become poorer, same as bankrupting, and that is not a good thing for any nation.

I would disagree with your reasoning, because if we're going to go in that direction, are people around the world richer because their country didn't ban Bitcoin - do people live better in El Salvador or somewhere else because of that?

Sometimes Bitcoiners say really silly things, right, how can you even claim that a government banning bitcoin is making you poorer?
Probably some spend too much time just talking about crypto with only people passionate about crypto and what they do all day is again crypto-related so they don't realize how many people currently leave outside this world without even touching it once.
2440  Economy / Economics / Re: Is renting an inevitable waste of money? on: January 24, 2023, 08:45:29 PM
First, if you're in a long-term relationship like myself, you can never be 100% sure that you'll be with that person in 20 or 30 years from now, which might prevent you from opting for a loan.
Secondly, you need to be certain that the location or city of the property to be bought is convenient for future job offers and so on.
Thirdly, because a loan is a many-year commitment, there's no guarantee that you'll be able to afford the monthly payment 15 years from now.

I don't see those as problems, and even if considered such you can easily go over it
- if you apply for a loan you simply write down both you and your girlfriend as partners, and you split the future property 50/50 or 25/75 how you want via a simple contract, every bank here accepts mortgages from two individuals that are not married but are copayers
- the same problem with rent, I can rent a flat in the city center but it will cost me 3 times more, the same if for the price of the mortgages, there is not much difference between them unless there is something really specific in that area, I find it unbelievable for a situation where apartment that are 3x different in rent have the same value in the overall price.
- there is no guarantee that in 15 you could afford rent either.

However, my analysis is valid for my country.

The country with the largest percentage of homeownership in the world?
I guess nobody listens to the cons there, your first wage comes with a mandatory mortgage or how do things work there?   Cheesy
