I support the applications. I'm also considering to apply one day, as last days (months) quite often I ran out of sMerit, and there are some people deserving to get merit, when I have the possibility I report them to a Merit source. I know that with every application comes a drama so that's why i haven't done it yet. Anyway if there is a need for more sources, I'll trow my hat in the ring. I have almost 100 days online in the forum for almost 2 years now so I can say that I've spent quite some time in the forum, here is my sent merit history (thanks to Vod and BPIP) with 564 merit sent Again this is just in case more sources are needed, I would love to avoid all the drama attached to an application.

A New Ransomware Is Targeting Network Attached Storage (NAS) DevicesA new ransomware family has been found targeting Linux-based Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices made by Taiwan-based QNAP Systems and holding users' important data hostage until a ransom is paid, researchers told The Hacker News. Ideal for home and small business, NAS devices are dedicated file storage units connected to a network or through the Internet, which allow users to store and share their data and backups with multiple computers. Not using it, but for those who have installed it in their home and small business, just be careful and your system might be compromise, specially if you have like a wallet backup or some personal data in it. Good, I've updated the OP. No need to be only crypto related threat, I'm not sure if anyone would keep their private keys or backups on device with access to internet or the local network.

I doubt running Bitcointalk is that resource intensive. I think you could be very wrong here This topic has 192 views, this page is 176 kB in size. Most data is created on the fly. I'm no expert, but I expect there's quite some server power behind it. I somehow got in a possession of a picture of theymos in the server room dealing with DDoS attacks on a Layer1. <the time before clouldflare> Sorry for the off topic, feel free to report it. I could stop myself.

~ Can you tell me more about these campaigns? I didn't really get it. As you can see I'm a newbie here Well, when you reach a certain rank you have the possibility to add a signature under every post. Some projects are willing to pay for to advertise them in your signature space, like I do with ChipMixer. Then you have a certain amount of posts you have to do each week in order to get paid which is logical, because the project want to have some exposure (this does not apply for ChipMixer). You have to follow the forum rules and not spam the forum with bullshit. The better reputation you have the better campaigns you can join. You can check the Service section for campaigns paying in Bitcoin. There are also bounties for the social medias. See the Bounty Section. ~ I'm here for money And communication Try to focus on Communication.. and learning before that, many tried to come only for the money and ended up banned - here the ban is personal and forever.

Don't forget that many users only access the forum from their mobile phones, which puts some kind of electricity consumption balance I guess. It will be interesting to see some statistics how many people read the forum from their mobile devices. I know theymos will not keep such information but.. I'm mostly on mobile, during working hours I'm using TOR And all the pollution and child labor that goes in the mines where the main metals of which batteries and motherboards are extracted (and made) from I understand your point but I don't think people buy electronics with the sole purpose to read the bitcointalk (actually some bounty/signature campaign abusers maybe doing it, but don't think this is on that big scale to be considered). Here we discuss only forum related aspects of efficiency/consumption.

this forum isn't using that much resources probably that we would need to worry. It's not something like amounts of electricity used for Bitcoin mining in total. A better comparison would probably be comparing it to the electricity consumed by forum users directly: a desktop computer consumes many times more energy than a webserver needs to load a few pages. So if you're worried about "eco", turn off your computer Don't forget that many users only access the forum from their mobile phones, which puts some kind of electricity consumption balance I guess. UniCredit Bank celebrates their birthday today! As a sign of gratitude we will be emptying buckets of money from the windows of our headquarters the whole day. To be eligible for a bucket all you need to do is to slip a $50 bill under the door on this random apartment. After that, go to the headquarters where your bucket will be waiting for you.
This is how those tweets look like if you think about it.
This made me laugh We don't have enough warning, there are waves of newbies coming to our crypto world without any idea what they are doing. They are the easy catch of the scammers. Then those newbies leave the crypto thing disappointed and will never come back. They will also tell their friends to not touch any crypto currency because it's too dangerous. We need more warnings, newbies don't read and research, they just want quick money...

I'm sorry to say it but probably 85-90% of the traffic is because of greed. All those signature campaigns, giveaways, airdrops some sort of "free money", attract more and more people who have come here to "work hard" and make as more as possible. Then comes the bots, alts and scammers, together with the FOMO-ed newbies trying to invest now and be rich in a year, because someone told them so but got fooled very easy and then shouting around that bitcoin is only for criminals, it's scam, ponzi, bubble etc... At the end we are all here only for the technology :

@Baofeng, I added your one today. Warning to all Mac users using Zoom. Zoom has a flaw that lets a website turn on your Mac's camera without permissionVideo conferencing app Zoom has a major security flaw in its Mac client, letting any website turn on your Mac's camera without a warning, security researcher Jonathan Leitschuh claims.
In a blog post Monday, Leitschuh detailed the vulnerability, which he says he'd disclosed to Zoom more than 90 days ago, and the company still hasn't fixed it source

Looks like I'm also in this club, but what is the point of it? When I created my club, we were active group of people with a specific goal, to clear up the forum, and I can say that we achieved this goal one way or anohter, wa are still active, and do report. This is a club with a meaning. Your one is more like a list of people who reached a certain amount of merit. I just want to say that I do respect you and I value all your contribution to forum, I just don't get this point of the club I guess you are excited to climb the merit ladder that. Guess what.. reaching higher and higher you start seeing what is happening in the forum from within, and you probably won't like it. I was like you in the very beginning.

What we have to do when an account get compromised?? Shall we only tag it or create a flag? If we create a flag want type of flag is suitable??
Maybe we need a new flag only for hacked/lost accounts?? Thoughts?

There are many exaples like this one. MS for example is Multiple Sclerosis but people use if quite oftern refering to MicroSoft for example. Those a just superstition. No need to bother. I know those cigarettes, but I really doubt that when people see BTC the will think of cigarettes.

It's usually a bad idea to put yourself between a hammer and a hard place... so I will do it Mostly because I do not understand one thing in all this commotion. If this: I support this flag! Thank you suchmoon for the compelling evidence in OP which makes opposing such a flag quite difficult. Surely it could even be labelled as misuse of the new flag system?
Then WHY? WHAT are we not aware of Hhampuz wanted to quit with the DT drama and asked the other members to remove him from their trust lists. Of course, not everyone agreed with him and that's why he left postitive feedbacks here and there to make them do it. He got himself blacklisted from the DT1 at the end but he is still in DT2.

I don't know how to report this guy, but he is very helpful, made so many good threads in the mining section, I thought he should have ranked up to Legendary already but looks like there is a lack of merit sources in the Mining, and actually people there don't really care about merit as they don't chase the sig. campaign income. Anyway I think he deserves to rank up at least to Hero. MattthevAll his threads are useful, I learned a lof from his posts. So please, check his post history > https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;threads;u=986862;sa=showPosts almost every thread worth meriting.
|
|
|
If we list all the threads in which the OP never posted again or posted only once, that will be a very useful list to start manually go trough and reporting mega threads. That would require scraping half a million topics, and 50 million posts. I don't think it's worth doing this. Then just forget it, we have enough manpower in the CLUB it won't take much time if we focus on those topics to clear them, the only question is how people to distinguish the good from the bad ones, we have to set up our own rules to report those threads.
