261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [CryptoNight] CPU mining guide & coins that will get you a return on: August 23, 2018, 11:09:26 AM
Anyone looked at Binarium money..Looks really good.. CPU only..! Masternode..!
I see this coin is on the X11 algorithm. Although, I see it is ASIC resistant, I'm only covering CryptoNight coins in this thread.

I found info about this coin here: [ANN] Binarium is the cryptocurrency protected from ASICs and oriented on games
262  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges join Winklevoss brothers for a self regulatory organisation on: August 23, 2018, 07:35:36 AM
I still can't believe how early the winklevoss twins go in.
I remember being very early and I have been in this bitcoin space for over 6 years now and they were even earlier than me.

They got in like at 40 dollars each bitcoin and they once said they had like 1% of all bitcoins and that means it was about 40 thousand bitcoins back than, now of course that must have dropped a lot but still considering they have over 40 thousand bitcoins and one bitcoin is about $7k (even went as high as $20k each) they worth over 280 million dollars as it is already, and this is just assuming they have 40 thousand bitcoins, it could be way over and even if it is $40k at one point when bitcoin was $20k, they had like 800 million dollar worth of bitcoins. WOW.
That's an amazing price to get into bitcoin if they were smart enough to sell a few when it mooned, in Dec 2017, that's even better Smiley

I know these guys started an exchange in 2013 but closed it in 2017. Maybe they managed to increase their bitcoin assets through commissions they got from people trading there.
263  Other / Meta / Re: Merit & new rank requirements on: August 22, 2018, 03:13:49 PM
I was wondering for a long time that was I the only one have that concept about "quality" in mind. According to my observation, most of the merits are given in Meta board. Those merit-received posts only meet "constructive" criteria and I don't see many really "high quality" ones. Sometimes, to match the "constructive" criteria, people deliberately lengthen posts & topics. This confuses their readers.
Exactly. To be honest, we need more bitcoin/blockchain sort of discussions on the forum. And not bitching about the system in Meta. Most of the top merited posters are not even close to writing a single informative post outside of Meta.
Both of you guys are right!

Merit is awarded mostly in meta or reputation and I also created a post complaining about the fact merit is awarded mostly for merit analysis/statistics here: Has the Merit faucet dried up? Solutions? which is sad...

I'm not saying it wasn't hard to create these stats and what not but the main focus of this forum should be about BTC & altcoins. Don't you?

I am creating a lot of posts where I try to help people or come up with ideas for the forum but these aren't really in focus of the merit sources... Sometime it is a bit discouraging to see this but what can you do?  Roll Eyes

264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?) on: August 22, 2018, 08:09:39 AM
I think I should limit this to Bitcoin (and forum) related subjects, instead of adding altcoin guides. If you really want this: change my mind!

I was trying yo change your mind with my guide Smiley

I think a lot of people can benefit from altcoin guides as well, not just bitcoin Smiley

IMHO, the altcoins are the new "wild west" where there are higher risks but you can also get higher returns as well.
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto exchanges join Winklevoss brothers for a self regulatory organisation on: August 22, 2018, 08:01:14 AM
I think it's something wrong with the link you posted, it directs me to an article about Samsung launches Galaxy Note 9 in India; price, specs and where to buy.

Are the Winklevoss brothers the same ones that said Facebook was their idea?
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MEW >token>help on: August 22, 2018, 07:58:51 AM
You need to follow these steps in order to sell your tokens:

1. Make sure you have a small amount of ETH in MEW to be able to pay for GAS (payment for mining fees). How much? You can calculate that here: https://ethgasstation.info/ If you don't have ETH in MEW you need to buy it on an exchange and move it to MEW.
2. Find an exchange that supports your token and has a token/ETH pair
3. Send your tokens from MEW to that exchange
4. Sell your tokens for ETH
5. (Optional but recommended) Send ETH from the exchange back to MEW

Sounds a bit complicated but once you do it once it's not that hard Smiley
267  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDES] on Bitcointalk. Index thread (until there is a dedicated subforum?) on: August 22, 2018, 07:46:14 AM
How about a guide about CryptoNight coins CPU mining?

I've created and maintained it for a while now and it seems it is useful to people who start mining these coins: [CryptoNight] CPU mining guide & coins that will get you a return
268  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoin Discussion section can change name to Trash discussion on: August 22, 2018, 07:40:38 AM
The altcoin discussion section is full of spam, you are right, but if you take a closer look there are a few decent posts.

Unfortunately the good posts are buried very fast by the spam in there. This has been discussed numerous time here as well but a good solution to stopping it is yet to be discovered.
269  Other / Meta / Re: Any Custom BB Codes? on: August 21, 2018, 02:44:27 PM
I'm looking to sort-of reverse engineer SMF in order to create a tool for bb codes. I may release this publicly.

I just wanted to know if BitcoinTalk leverages any custom BB codes other than the Basic SMF ones listed here: https://wiki.simplemachines.org/smf/Basic_Bulletin_Board_Codes

I'm not entirely sure who would have knowledge of this, whether it be just Theymos, or perhaps other users have used them in the past.
Just wanting to make sure before jumping into development in the future!
There are a few custom ones but not that much.
It's cool you're trying to create one yourself but I'm wondering if this won't be overkill since there are loads of BBcode tools online: https://www.google.com/search?q=bbcode+generator&oq=bbcode+generator&aqs=chrome.0.0l6.3383j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Unless you're trying to create something different, of course Wink

BB codes can't be exactly customized, right? And since this is an SMF forum, obviously only those would be able to be used here.

The ones that bitcointalk supports are here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref
I'm not sure if this is the final version used here. For example I can see the BTC symbol appears when I write a reply but I don't see it in that list:

270  Other / Meta / Re: What should be included in a newbie welcome message? on: August 21, 2018, 02:12:44 PM
Just saw this post below. Maybe theymos can hire this woman to do an introduction video:
...
Or alia.  Cheesy

I think she will definitely "spark" some interest for people to read the rules now Cheesy

Going back to the problem at hand, I'm curious on what will the final page look like and whether theymos will implement it or not.  Grin
271  Economy / Economics / Re: Venezuela In Chaos - Massive 95% Devaluation -new Bolivar pegged to state crypto on: August 21, 2018, 01:20:26 PM
It still amazes me how one man can do so much damage in a countries economy, pushing its people into extreme poverty and nobody being able to do anything about it... It's sad that this is happening to the Venezuelan people.

I see this move to crypto as a desperate attempt to save the economy but he still doesn't get it. The more decentralized they go the worse it will be to the country as no one in their right mind would invest in something started by a dictator.
272  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin the future of money on: August 21, 2018, 12:40:05 PM
Never BTC can become the future of money, I think they are a bit complicated and risky so fiat is still the main currency and has the highest liquidity.
I think saying that BTC can never become the future money is a bit harsh.

Certainly it cannot replace FIAT right now because it is still extremely volatile thus, will not work to be paid in it for the work you perform.

If you think of the mean of payment mankind used along the centuries from basic exchange of goods, silver/gold coins, bank notes to the credit cards of today, do you remember how skeptical people were when the credit cards were introduced? I remember it quite well, everyone was paranoid that the computers will be stealing their money and it will be the end of the world....

Do you think having a credit card with bitcoin on it would be such a big leap from the current approach? I think not.
273  Other / Meta / Re: What should be included in a newbie welcome message? on: August 21, 2018, 12:23:20 PM
....
Seriously, we don't need to have everything in caps and bright colours to get their attention. If they don't read it then that's their problem. People generally don't read terms and conditions because they're often overly long and in undecipherable legal spiel. This is short and sweet for those exact same reasons. Before they even sign up or as soon as they successfully create an account here a warning to read the rules could be displayed, but there's really no excuses for not reading it other than your own foolishness
...
I know you're a funny guy and I understand your points but if you really care about this, you need to come up with something that will make people read it   Wink

As I've seen here, a lot of people only read the title of a thread and not even bother reading the whole post. Do you really think they will bother with some message after they register?  Roll Eyes

....
And/or perhaps it should also be sound-tracked by some obnoxiously loud filthy dubstep as well that autoplays as soon as you successfully sign up to really get their attention? Perhaps we could create a dubstep track with the hook or lyrics of the song just being "READ THE RULES" over and over? 50 Merit to anyone who creates this.

Alternatively, an image of a half-naked woman could be displayed, and if you look closely READ THE RULES could be edited across her boobs? I'm sure that would get their attention. 10 merits for this.
....
The offer of 50 merit for the dubstep track with the hook still stands and 10 for the boobs (make sure she's not actually naked or topless though and don't put it in image tags. Also mark it as NSFW).
Be careful tossing around large merit amounts, someone may indeed take you up on this offer or even worse, accuse you of sending them to your alts and abusing the merit system Grin
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Сrypto currency in a charitable environment on: August 21, 2018, 11:32:35 AM
There still are a few projects based on this idea.

I think it's not a bad idea to have anything charity related in this world but I'm not sure if this will necessarily work for charities.

Some points against it would be high volatility and the possibility of some individuals to use for scamming.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discussion: Crypto backed by gold, what else? on: August 21, 2018, 11:29:14 AM
I think backing any crypto currency by any other asset will not work in the long run.

Take a look at FIAT. For some decades in the past, FIAT was backed by gold but that changed since it wasn't really sustainable and of course because there were other interests.

More about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_standard
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where To Invest 750$ on: August 21, 2018, 11:24:48 AM
This is a good time for investments as the market is in a 3-6 months low for the majority of coins.

If you ask me, I would go for IOST, IOTA, ETC, ETH, XVG. There are a lot of good opportunities right now and these are traded very cheap right now.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Native blockchain or Token? on: August 21, 2018, 11:20:18 AM
As far as I know, there is no difference when it comes to credibility.

I have seen more and more tokens start with ERC20 to gather funds and then continue with building their own blockchain for it.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Quick Read to Understand Deedcoin on: August 21, 2018, 11:17:54 AM
I would suggest moving this thread to the announcements category. It would fit there even better.

6.   Usable value of $225 per Deedcoin to the average consumer, far higher for commercial users.
What do you mean by this? Can you give me an example or further clarification?
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POW Reality on: August 21, 2018, 11:10:51 AM
The average life span of a crypto currency is 1.5y so, a lot of them will fail during this time period.

The "magic" is to try to weed though the clutter and select the ones that will have higher chances of survival otherwise, like you said, the resources available to you will be wasted.

I personally don't regret the time & resources I spent mining altcoins even if they weren't successful in the end because that contributed to improving my knowledge in this field.
280  Other / Meta / Re: Together we can remove multi accs in bounty on: August 21, 2018, 09:33:42 AM
I think KYC is a bit too much for an online forum and people will stop registering here. I agree with theymos decision not to go forward with it.

On the other hand this is a big problem and some people (campaign managers) addressed it by creating lists of people "banned" from campaigns for example:

You can find more lists like this one if you search though the forum, this can be a solution to the spam generated by bots.
