261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: March 23, 2015, 04:31:42 AM
We found an issue in late testing of beta3 tonight which raised some concerns with how it may (or may not) communicate and sync with beta2 clients/wallets- because of this we're going to take another 24hrs to investigate and resolve this issue, and ensure it will not surface itself in a production scenario.

Sorry for the delay, even though this is a beta we still want to do it right. Will have this updated and squared away tomorrow.

...I even had http://syscoin.market ready with the Beta3 client on the backend and web frontend before we uncovered the issue  Roll Eyes

Quick heads up we have a team call that's going to delay things by a few hours. Still coming tonight just wanted to post since it should be rolling out now if we didn't have this call- sorry! Updates coming very soon!

Update (2:40pm PST): Team call just ended, working on getting stuff deployed.

I just bought some SYS for 2 BTC  Grin

Keep the good work guys.

Grin thanks we're still here working away! Some people were PM'ing me asking for nodes... we'll look at our seeder tomorrow it should negate the need for "addnode" but if you are having issues you can always visit the block explorer at: http://blockexperts.com/sys click the "peers" tab in the table below there, and then use the IP of the peers there and do "addnode [ip] add" via console or in your conf file "addnode=[ip]".

Workin workin workin

SnipSnoop got the windows installer auto-build complete so soon as we're ready the installer is waiting and ready for windows (and Mac needs no installer!). Sorry for the delays, sometimes doing it right take a lil longer.

Development Update

Sorry I'm a bit tired so I'm going to pull another Slack copy/paste, but beta3 is coming tomorrow and we'll be around to answer questions. Blockmarket beta3 introduces a new step where users can buy items from blockmarket using their local QT wallet without any copy and pasting. This uses some very operating-specific logic. Because of this we want to be around when beta3 is deployed, to assist with issues in environments we may not have been able to test in; from Slack:

Quote from: danosphere via Slack
danosphere [1:23 AM]
We're going to post to our social channels here in a bit but I wanted to let the ppl here know first - delaying beta 3 deployment until tomorrow afternoon just because... in the past we've done this where we've deployed things very late in dev local timezones

danosphere [1:23 AM]
and then we have to go to bed and ppl have questions, possibly problems, etc- and we'd like to be able to help

danosphere [1:23 AM]
so we're gonna post another teaser image of beta3 across the channels tonight and plan on having beta3 deployed by 1pm USA/PST tomorrow

danosphere [1:24 AM]
that includes web and QT newness, and also the syscoin.market and ffa.syscoin.market will all be updated to beta3

danosphere [1:24 AM]
and a blog post

danosphere [1:24 AM]
rather than deploying and vanishing for a few hours (sleeping)

Expect the rollout tomorrow (March 22, 2015) around 1pm USA/PST!!! Here's quick glimpse of what's coming:

Help get the server migrated. Veremit has been working on this but at this point I need to turn the box off and it runs the Forums and the blockchain.

Someone pm me and I'll zip up all the data and DB including changing admin pass before hand such that the sites can be setup elsewhere. I can deliver it as an Anazon AMI if that's easier lmk. First person to contact me gets it at this point, they can coordinate with veremit.

Sorry I'm just very busy with Syscoin but I'm trying to hand kittehcoin over. Vere has the domains, now just move them to whoever pms me- preferably jurassicfrog.

268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: March 19, 2015, 06:50:48 AM
Pics of the updates coming to the purchase workflow in Blockmarket beta3, still hashin out the final details (heh, get it?!) but as you can see, trying to make it much more seamless with the QT wallet:
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: March 17, 2015, 01:39:22 PM
But the fact is, this will be a serious decentralized market and with some anonymity it can replace the silk road while providing ease of use.

If the DEVs come through what they say they are going to do there this is a good time to buy.

Have to correct you with a *when the DEVs come through

Just the highlights as I jet off to work! Beta3 this weekend, and possibly a reveal of the mystery partner too... working hard to try and get it formalized allowed to be made public but until then  Lips sealed just know its good things.

Also, again an update from our Slack this morning where you really should be if you aren't. People were asking if Blockmarket/Syscoin Marketplaces would have a reputation system. Here is the full answer (copy/paste, sry):

Quote from: danosphere (on Slack)
danosphere [9:18 AM]
The idea is that initially blockmarket isn't going to have a rep system but we want to predicate rep on the trustless escrow system

danosphere [9:19 AM]
basically a byproduct of the escrow system will be vendor ratings if that makes sense

danosphere [9:19 AM]
your a vendor who ships something and the funds are escrow'd until the buyer confirms they recieved the item

danosphere [9:19 AM]
and then closing that loop (the buyer closes it) indicates a certain level of trust towards that vendor

danosphere [9:20 AM]
more and more sales = more and more rep

danosphere [9:20 AM]
there are is also the option of making it such that when you close an escrow, you can actually leave "feedback" with the closing of it

danosphere [9:21 AM]
in parallele we could do a stop-gap of ratings before the escrow systems

danosphere [9:21 AM]
system*

danosphere [9:21 AM]
but they would be kinda contrived imo dont you think? (without escrow)

danosphere [9:22 AM]
It would bascially be something like you purchase something, and then (probably within a fixed window of time/blocks) you can come back and post "feedback" on that offeraccept/offerpay (purchase of an item) on the market

danosphere [9:23 AM]
i say that this method is a bit contrived because the vendor doesn't risk anything currently (no escrow) so the time at which you'd return to post that review would be less concrete than it would be within the escrow system

danosphere [9:23 AM]
with the escrow system its more concrete- vendor says you'll get the item within 5-10 days, you don't get it within that time, than they have to refund you or discuss a compromise where the delivery time is extended... or you get a partial refund

danosphere [9:24 AM]
and then lets say after the extension you still dont get the item- you get your money back and that audit trail in and of itself is a form of reptutation in imo a more "real" version of rep

danosphere [9:24 AM]
and, it implicity insulates buyers a bit better when it comes to the purchase process

danosphere [9:25 AM]
trustless escrow we've already got designed.... I've talked at length with people here/IRC about a 2nd escrow mode which introduces arbiters

danosphere [9:25 AM]
but that needs more discussion/design

danosphere [9:25 AM]
hm... that was a lot of words eh?

danosphere [9:26 AM]
can you tell we've been thinking about this a bit?

danosphere [9:26 AM]
so TL;DR:

danosphere [9:26 AM]
- no built in rep to start, but if we feel the community is asking for this we can certainly layer it on either at the blockmarket level or possibly the daemon level

danosphere [9:27 AM]
- built in rep will come with trustless escrow and is a byproduct of actually recieving items on time; and will also insulate buyers from getting ripped off (but this is a feature we're working on)

danosphere [9:28 AM]
- built in rep will also come with "moderated" escrow where a third party is acting as arbiter. We're still working on the design of this. Who would be arbiters? We were thinking something like SuperNodes or something, they have to hold and "lock" a bunch of SYS to act as an arbiter, but for that they get a small fee or something.. still being designed and definitely still open to ideas/suggestions in that regard.

danosphere [9:28 AM]
Third party arbiters will be cool, I'll def sign up to be one, make sure people get what merchants claim to be selling

danosphere [9:29 AM]
and get a few SYS on the side for helping with that (as any arbiter would)

Sorry for just dumping the log but I'm out the door to the dayjob, just trying to keep people informed. Get on Slack! It's where the real discussions happen, been doing my best to back-copy them into here too tho  Wink

Exactly which is why I'm asking ferdous to give proof he's been arrested...

If he can not give proof he's arrested I won't believe he's been arrested nor should anyone else...

Yeah, because all police forces will give that kind of thing out publicly.

We're not in America here dude. And besides, Ferdous isn't the only one saying that. I am too.

As someone who's just as involved in these legal proceedings and to a certain degree more so since we have an active injunction against Ryan Kennedy and are involved in a civil case against him for 750btc stolen from our team (Dan from syscoin/ team lead). We broke the arrest news in a blog post updating investors on the legal action.

As previously stated, this is taking place in the UK not the US, laws are waaaaaaay different in the UK, as are the legal proceedings (I should know as I've received a crash course).

The facts are:
1. An arrest was confirmed by police in the timeframe claimed, names not confirmed, see point 2. http://motherboard.vice.com/read/the-guy-who-ruined-dogecoin :
"Tweets and other online posts suggested that Kennedy had been arrested in Bristol, so I contacted the Avon and Somerset Police. I asked if they could confirm whether a Ryan Kennedy and a Chelsea Hopkins had been arrested and, if so, on what charges.

“All we are saying at the moment is: ‘We have arrested a man and a woman—both in their 20s—from the south west area of England on suspicion of fraud and money laundering offences,’” corporate communications officer Wayne Baker said to me in an email. “We will not make any further comments at the moment.”

It’s standard for police in Britain not to name people who have been arrested until after charges have been laid, and Baker confirmed the two individuals in question have not been charged. However, he could not say if the two people who were arrested were Ryan Kennedy and Chelsea Hopkins."

2. This is an ongoing investigation of very serious magnitude and for that reason and due to UK law, most specifics won't be public until UK law permits.

Mp3s are a good idea we need to somehow associate certs to offers so we can have digital diwnloads and comoete with app stores like google play.

JAG! Shhhhh Wink

Syscoin great working now its highly progressive coins.... Smiley

Thanks, hey- everyone knows what this team has been through (hell) and we're still here very much working hard to make SYS everything it has the potential to be. You see we have public decentralized markets working on the main chain and even more so on the testnetwork. Aliases are fully functional and make Syscoin one of the more approachable cryptos. Anyone on here posting "Syscoin is dead" needs to read the updates. If you have SYS and would like to divest yourself of the "dead" coin I'll happily buy it off you, pm me.

Again I posted a bit of an update on Slack as I know people are on the lookout for the blog post and the news rolling out today. Wanted to cross-post the update to keep people in the loop:

For those waiting for the blog post and announcement just an update- is IS coming tonight (US/EST) we still need to talk with said partner before posting the news and its a crypto partner not like Amazon (not yet at least!) but still will add big value if we can get to where I'd like. Additionally, we do have a hard date for Beta3 which we'll share in the blog post.

We have a new build to add to the roadmap - a 0.1.5.3 release which is a core platform update and will hardfork Syscoin improving the flexibility of the platform and getting rid of a lot of these "expires too fast" issues, and general confusion about the current implementation of service expiry.

If you have PM'd me on BTC and I have not replied- I'll be replying today; my week has been terrible re: dayjob and I had to work most of yesterday [weekend] too which is abnormal so that's why I wasn't' around (sry!)

Stay tuned! I'm excited to share what's coming with everyone! Please note the Slack notes from our team call which we usually make public every Sunday after the call are in private mode for the time being until after the blog post as it contains spoilers! So we'll include a link to it in the blog post so you can see the entirety of what we covered and even further insight into what's coming!  Grin
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Syscoin - Business on the Blockchain on: March 14, 2015, 03:35:22 AM

Thanks! we got more coming this weekend! I posted this on our Slack (email dan@syscoin.org if you'd like an invite) and I wanted to repost it here just to keep people updated on what's up!

=======

Hey guys sorry I've been MIA today, @ my dayjob I'm leading the rollout of a production product release slated for beginning of April and the workload is ... well lets be honest none of you are my coworkers- the workload is absurd. I've been thru it before but its just always a grind, and being responsible for it just adds to the pressure and really in all honesty motivates me to get SYS up up up so I can leave leave leave that job!  Lips sealed

That's the main reason this week we've been so quiet, we have big things brewing, I don't want to give anything away but we'll have a blog post up this weekend with the news (its more dev related than legal just FYI!) and I'm really pushing to get Blockmarket beta3 out the door this weekend.

I had to sign of IRC for a bit because my laptop was getting hot for no apparent reason just idling on Limechat (IRC Mac client) so that's why im not on IRC atm, I'll be on there later tonight in my usual lurker mode heh. Just wanted to put that out there since I know some people get concerned when the lead guy isn't on IRC- I'll be back! Just giving the laptop a break, the thing runs 24/7. I do appreciate everyone's patience, this dayjob work is running me down i swear.

Lil teaser about what's coming this weekend:
  • blog post (for sure)
  • blockmarket beta3 (highly likely - towards Sunday)
  • new partnership announcement  Lips sealed with some cryptofriends that could be huge for both SYS and some other cryptos if it works out
  • iOS wallet submitted to Apple store, @jonn4y is waiting on me for 2 items aside from that the app is done, gonna try to get him those items this weekend
  • Community Dev wallet! We (SYS team) will be setting up a community dev wallet to try and help supplement / expedite development in any and every way possible. We'll coordinate with the community to get this setup proper and make sure its fair in terms of work for pay- we talked about it at a high level in here earlier but we'll be getting into the actual details tomorrow! Team plans to match community donations 1:1  Shocked

That's just this weekend  Wink we're still very much pushing for full #Blockmarket release by end of March / start of April as planned, PLUS the new partnership we're working on forging. We're really looking forward to the communities feedback on what we've been silently planning behind the scenes (with the communities help! because most of you are awesome and have great ideas we've decided to act on!).

is this the same as silkmarket 1 or 2 which is centralized?

The market is full in Blockchain, total decentralization market place, Web is use as interface to interact easily.

Now imagine when it's complete and if some big investor use this to develop competitor for Amazon and Ebay.
Why would anyone use this?

Trustless market.. no costly backups needed its all stored for a small fee. No govt intervention on markets.

Why would anyone use this?

I'll let my peers speak for me Smiley

Development Update!

I intended to get a blog post out tonight but reading the comments here I think it would be more effective if I included a graphic so it will be posted tomorrow evening. In the interim Blockmarket Beta 2 is now LIVE. We're still going to release a beta 2 QT wallet but the QT updates are minimal in beta 2. Beta 2 is definitely focused on the web-admin side of things and making it easy to add/edit/renew items and manage inventory. Full blog post tomorrow with more info.

In the interim we have setup a demo site- "Blockmarket FFA" (free for all!). We stood this up so anyone can see how easy it is to add, edit, and update items running your very own Blockmarket. Feel free to add whatever you like!*

Market Website: http://ffa.syscoin.market
Market Admin Page: http://ffa.syscoin.market/#/admin
Admin Username: admin
Admin Password: unstoppable

*While this is all fully decentralized and cannot be taken down/censored we will "hide" any overtly obscene items added thru a front-end "banning" mechanism built into Blockmarket so, play nice Wink

We hope people enjoy the demo site and the ability to play with the admin interfaces and get a feel for what Syscoin is capable of- this is just a small glimpse of what's possible with Syscoin's decentralized market. The FFA market could be taken down by *whoever* and would be back up instantly if another SYS user wasn't already showing these same offers in their Blockmarket. All "takedowns" do in terms of Syscoin marketplaces is remove a front end, the market remains and all that's needed to restore "easy" access is a few clicks to get the Blockmarket UI up and running. More is coming.

Please remember the demo site is running on the "testnet" so all SYS, and offers, are only available on the testnet- this is done not only for proper testing purposes but also to avoid filling the main chain with "test" offers. Instructions on how to connect to the testnet can be found here: http://syscoin.org/board/discussion/189/syscoin-testnet and if you'd like some test SYS to play with please tweet @syscoin with your address (it should start with a T if you're on the testnet [cakenet]) and ask for some "play money"  Grin

Than you so much dev for this great update! I know I've been nagging and complaining but that's because I can't understand why the price of this awesome coin is so low with all these great developments that are being made. This update reminded me why I decided to invest in this coin, because the value and potential of this coin is immense. I must say I am a happy customer right now. I'm truly impressed. I'm happy with the legal status as well. Thank you so much devs for working so hard, I believe in you guys! You should definitely pursue legal action with that android wallet dev as well, what a scum bag. An android wallet is really important and I hope that's high on the list as well.

And I hope you have a speedy recovery jonn4y!

Thanks! I personally don't consider it nagging - I would be nagging if I were in your position as well Smiley We've (the team) all just been busy or otherwise and thus communications kinda broke down the past two weeks- at least we're big enough to admit to that and to doing better in that regard. That being said I'm glad the update last night helped get people up to speed! As quiet as things may seem on the face of things as you can tell from the post there is quite a lot going on (and on a number of different fronts- legal, scammy devs, new products, feature improvements, etc). Some stuff we weren't able to confirm until lately (the scammy dev, grrr) but we're working on better communications even if its just small bits of news rather than droughts of info and then a flood like I posted last night  Shocked

I tried to install the wallet (windows), I get "no blocksource available", I have no syscoin connections.

Do I need syscoin.conf file or something?

I tried to install the wallet (windows), I get "no blocksource available", I have no syscoin connections.

Do I need syscoin.conf file or something?

I've been asking same thing around here with not much help. I did see this, it might help.
http://www.reddit.com/r/SysCoin/comments/2wk3im/is_there_a_conf_file_i_need_to_set_up_for_nodes/

It's odd this is happening as we do have a "DNS Seed" which should automatically connect you. But clearly something in that process isn't working for you- in that case I suggest either adding a node through Syscoin-QT console, open it up and type the command 'addnode node.syscoin.tk add'- or create a conf file with addnode=node.syscoin.tk. Close and restart the client if you edit the conf file and then it should start syncing. If you do it via console just give it a few minutes (1-2min) and it will begin syncing.

If all that fails, here is a good peers.dat, close your wallet, swap this peers.dat in, reopen your wallet, sync should begin. I may PM you for more info on this to figure out why the wallet sometimes doesn't connect to nodes- its a spurious network-level (TCP/IP) issue we've seen here and there but haven't been able to solidly reproduce nor does it seem to impact many users (1 in 50? or less?). In the interim, the above should get you syncin' Smiley

Do you all (the syscoin folks) know when the arrests happened approximately?

Read the details in the blog under "Legal".

While it is certainly good news it's makes me wonder for what?
An arrest implies some criminal charges of some kind finally being applied.
While the Syscoin Team's action is civil.
I admit I'm not familiar with UK laws and that you can't disclose much at this point......
I just wonder if you think He'll come off your money now to get out of jail?

@MrFelt I think it happened between late November 2014 and January 2015; I'm sure the exact date but I bet you could dig them up  Wink

It is good news, and @Beachguy you're right in your questions; Unfortunately at the moment that's all I can say. We are working very closely with authorities to bring justice to this situation. We've spent months compiling evidence to that end and the resources the police have at their disposal far exceed ours. With our combined knowledge and resources we see their involvement as very positive.

@LiteBit and @jokumat lmk if you still have any issues getting sync'd up!

@veremit
Newbie 22 post
Who are you and why are you in charge so suddenly?

@majsta
Can you speak on your back ground, and how much MEOW you hold/HODLz in the badtime.
What are the results of the irc?

@DanO
Update your pledge to pass (and to who) quickly if possible. please.

I'm not interested in MEOW past being responsible in my role handing things off to those willing to move it forward. To that end I can speak to who @veremit and @majsta are- they are Kitteh community members and marketers who were probably some of the most helpful non-fullon-dev community members I had the pleasure of working with while I was "lead" on this; they've been around as long as I can remember, ever since I inherited the project myself.

Veremit is actually the only one who stepped up to keep MEOW alive when I posted that I'd be stepping back, and if it were not for him Kitteh would be gone- that's why he's in charge "all of the sudden" Wink I think its more a case of he's been leading the community takeover thus far and keeping Kitteh on life support- now that it seems he's got more ppl willing to help I'll let you guys figure out the team dynamics and roles beyond that.

In regards to handoffs- @veremit should now have control of all of the main domains. The DNS still point to my boxes which I'd like to move/change ASAP. I also think I own some of the kittehcoin social pages which I'm happy to transfer ownership of. Please contact me on email or Skype or IRC (find me in #syscoin IRC as danosphere) because I do not check this thread often and its just by chance I saw this.

I currently still host/own (unless @veremit has since changed the DNS):
- main website
- main github repo
- block explorer
- facebook page
- twitter page (i think)

Happy to pass them all over, just tell me to whom, and I'd prefer it be coordinated with @veremit as he was the first person to step up to do anything when I announced months ago I had to step back; but doing it all alone is very hard (as he found out).

I'm going to politely sidestep these arguements to attempt to refocus things on Syscoin and @kamronk's statement:

Development Update!

Syscoin is not dead

Agreed. I'm doing my best to keep things moving and I've hit some hard times myself this week thus the exceptionally quiet week. I'd prefer not to elaborate on my issues but I'll just say its medical, and its family related. That being said I was able to get back to the "helm" so to speak and I'm happy to be back (better than other "real life" things I'm dealing with that's for sure  Cry).

In the spirit of transparency, the "team notes" from our weekly call (yes, we talk every Sunday at 3pm US/EST) have been posted publicly: https://slack-files.com/T03643FFW-F03PM7JSK-5c6afb9031
