2621  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: April 21, 2022, 06:55:54 AM

Wind Fury, enjoy the profit, HODL, have some diamond hands, whatever, you're allowed to say and do whatever you want. But, please, don't make it look like the Ether-scum where they can't look forward for upgrades and 2.0 gibberish to see green candles.

Am I making it look like Ether-scum? I was merely saying that Taro might attract developers from other projects, and start actually building on top of Bitcoin, which might also attract more liquidity for the network, then naturally more investors. Does that make it look like Ether-scum for you?

Ser, I would be lying if I said that I didn't care about Bitcoin's price. I did buy and HODL them as an investment first and foremost. Didn't anyone?

Plus what's with that tone? Why does it look like that you are always trying to make me look bad? I never had any interactions with you in the forum, nor have I insulted you.
It's just that I want improvements in Bitcoin simply for the sake of having a better payment system and not for the sake of making some investor bags of money. Sure, the value of Bitcoin is that it's such a good payment system, so that's part of the reason it has a high price. But this shouldn't be the main motivation for innovation. That's why a statement like 'this new technology will get btc to the moon' generally rubs me the wrong way.

Ser, the whole network is literally living off incentivization. How do you think it's all sticking together for this long?

You have been involved in this forum long enough Wind_FURY to be able to attempt to appreciate that a lot of the bitcoiner members appreciate that members post in a way that recognizes the reality that bitcoin is both king daddy, and there is not some kind of equivalencies going on regarding what various shitcoins are doing.  If you fail to frame matters in that kind of way, then you are opening yourself up to attack, whether you are doing it on purpose or not... Maybe you really believe there is no difference between incentives in shitcoins versus various ongoing developments in bitcoin second and third layers, whether we are referring to lightning network or some other 2nd/3rd layer developments?

It seems to me that we can still acknowledge that some value might come from various shitcoin projects - in terms of potential learning about technical or implementation angles that bitcoin could take in the future (or even improve in various current development attempts) - whether referring to base layer or various kinds of second and third layers.

Seems to me that if you strive to just gloss over bitcoin differentiations - and to seem to want to pump various kinds of shitcoins as if they were equivalent to bitcoin in some kind of way or to even suggest that they are working off of the same incentives when foundationally, there are so many shitcoins that printed their own token, instead of working off of bitcoin - which thereby causes them to have lesser incentives because they have created money/making and money printing incentives for themselves on various kinds of projects that might even have some parallels in bitcoin.. but coming way earlier than bitcoin - and causing all kinds of seemingly premature pump and dump smoke and mirror nonsense going on all over the place with various shitcoins - even if you want to outline the various incentives in shitcoinlandia as if they were all the same - and equivalent to the incentives that are designed in bitcoin (if we can at least attempt to acknowledge that there is a certain amount of attempts in bitcoin to peg projects back to bitcoin's base layer and mostly acknowledge the extent to which some separate token (or business centralizations) might exist on bitcoin layer 2s and 3s that are ongoingly being developed.

Am I making it look like Ether-scum?
Well, saying that the price will go the moon resembles to this behavior.

Ser, the whole network is literally living off incentivization. How do you think it's all sticking together for this long?
This is irrelevant and it's also a hasty generalization; just because there's incentive to secure it, doesn't mean you're encouraged to keep it and dump it later in a higher price, because that's how "to the moon" sounds like.

There's development to make it more utilizable. It happens to attract investors. If the opposite occurred, it'd probably be another fraudulent, ponzi-looking situation.

That's just my opinion, by the way. I don't want to seem absolute nor am I holding the holy chalice of truth. This is just the way I perceive things.

Sers, don't take what I said out of context. Because if you truly were trying to understand what I said in "the whole network is literally living off incentivization", you would realize that it's true. From top to bottom, from the miners to the memers.

Altruism WAS necessary to bootstrap the network, incentivization IS necessary for the network to continue chugging along.

2623  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: sports betting sites that return your money when you lose. on: April 20, 2022, 11:35:50 AM
Yup. Just like what the title says. I have recently been recommended or referred (since it was a referral link that got me to register) by a friend of a friend into an online sports betting site. Being new to such things, I thought I should ask opinions from veterans here whether such things do exist or not. Although that friend claims that he had already made huge amount of cash from this site, I am still pretty skeptical and haven't topped up yet. But I gotta admit it is pretty fun and appealing to me, just wanna make sure before I put some money into it.
I would really appreciate some online gambling veteran insight Smiley)

Edit: this is the website - lmb.cc

I am pretty sure they find other creative ways to screw you over. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Either their rates suck or they randomly enforce KYC or something else. This kind of stuff won't let the casino make any profits and if the casino can't make profits it will go bankrupt. Since the house can't go bankrupt, in end it must be the players that pay for this feature. You are wise to be skeptical about this.

OP, never descibed how the mechanics of the sports betting site returns your money. Maybe the "sports betting" part is just a ploy for people to deposit their money, and the "site" is actually a Ponzi, or a Pyramid Scheme.

Plus the site currently shows an "Error 1020: Access Denied". The site owner is probably limiting who can access the site, or limiting from what regions can access the site.
2624  Economy / Gambling / Re: Another New Rule On Gambling Adverts Ban Celebrities and Sports Stars on: April 20, 2022, 08:16:10 AM

You guys don't really understand that it is not really about "banning", it never was. It is all about control. The government wants to have as much control as they can, especially over things which they consider to be harmful to a certain group of people, for example, in this case, children.

Putting such arbitrary restrictions over online casino gambling advertisments is just one way to have more freedom over what they control while making it seem like they are putting down iron-clad rules with boundaries.

I doubt they want to protect children from gambling addiction even though they make it seem that way...

The whole point of government is about control, that isn't the debate. It's if the current move by the government is "effective or not". I believe it might be effective.

To truly protect children from early exposure to anything about gambling, would you like it more if the government bans all kinds of advertising coming from casinos and all other kinds of gambling? I believe the government's ban on using celebrities and sports stars is actually a fair compromise.
2625  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: April 20, 2022, 05:50:21 AM
I have caught myself thinking, that I hardly can remember Russian gambling platform, that supports cryptocurrency. I am speaking about completely Russian platform, not a platform that supports Russian language and has a site weird machine translation. I remember only platforms that mainly support Russian rubles, and rarely EUR and USD. As a crypto forum, boycotting Russian rubles, that looks funny Cheesy

That's not the main point. The point is, why would it be the fault of Russian casino owners if Putin told his men to start invading Ukraine. The point is also about us, as Bitcoiners. Should we merely follow what our "leaders" say, or follow what the "current thing" is? In fact, we should encourage each Russian casino to accept Bitcoin to go around sanctions.
2626  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we entering the era of CBDCs? on: April 20, 2022, 05:26:45 AM
To be frank with you, that's a bad take in my opinion. CBDCs could be programmed to be "censorship-money" with a flick of a switch. It will also be easier for the govenment to ban CBDC wallets from sending deposits to exchanges, unlike cash which you can use in LocalBitcoins, or in person.

What the government, and the banks did to the truckers bank accounts in Canada? It can be done a lot simpler/more efficiently with CBDC. With CBDC, the government can control which users' wallets can transact where, and control which merchants' wallets can accept payments from which wallets. They will not do it right away at implementation though. They will market it as "a faster, cheaper and more efficient way of payment" first.
No arguments there but the assumption was about CBDCs that were created and controlled by regimes that aren't considered dictatorships like Canada's or China's. And also another assumption was that cryptocurrencies would be regulated like it is in many parts of the world. Like if Japan created their own CBDC and they already consider bitcoin a currency and have no problem with it being traded.

Given the benefit of the doubt, and those assumptions? No arguments there too, it would obviously be the most perfect world for Bitcoiners if the cabal gave us back all finacial freedom through CBDC. It would make Bitcoin more valuable in another sense. The sense that many of us would like. Cool
2627  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we entering the era of CBDCs? on: April 19, 2022, 11:12:09 AM
Surprisingly enough the Chinese altcoin (digital yuan) seems to be doing fine as they reported a little less than $10 billion worth of transactions recorded on their chain (if we can call it a chain!). There are also at least 2 new ones coming out in the coming months.

Suddenly it seems like the central banks jumped on board of the Bitcoin train but only took the blockchain technology and ran away.

I personally don't care how many of them are created as long as they don't try to ban bitcoin or restrict its adoption in any way (like closing bank accounts of those who dump fiat for bitcoin).

There may even be some silver lining that these CBDCs could replace the stable-coins in the market in the near future and we end up even seeing Atomic Swap capabilities added where you could easily swap one CBDC for another or for bitcoin without the risk of centralized stablecoins (issued by shady companies). That would definitely simplify things for traders while significantly reducing the risks they take.

2628  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: April 19, 2022, 07:31:25 AM
The topic has been here for a while, does anyone managed to support it I didn't managed to support it since none of the gambling site I most play is not from Russia and I am not that active bettor. I would like to know if there's an impact of this boycott thing in Russia.
Although this topic have created last month I don't see with effective because still have gamble keep active using Russian gambling platform, looks like have some competitive gambling here and have other gambling platform try how to give bad reputation from Russian gambling platform by asking to boycott. I don't this is true when give announcement to boycott when losing competitive as gambling platform network and this not solution although here we all hate with war invasion did by Russia to Ukraine.
Russian based gambling sites are still active but there may be a decline on their users. Let us not give this a bad meaning thinking that the one that started this do also owns a gambling site and wants other gambling sites to go down but this advocacy can be sincere and only for the sake of punishing Russian citizen or the Russian country for what they have done with Ukraine, not also on Ukraine actually because the effect is felt on other countries as well.

What you see here is true, this is not fake. The poster of this thread is only just a regular user that also joins a signature campaign, he isn't an owner of a gambling site. If you hate what Russia did, then you can support this boycott.

It would be unfair to "punish" all Russians simply because their "leader" has made a miscalculation in judgement. The U.S. government has also made atrocities in the Middle East, with their drone attacks, killing innocent civilians. Should we start a "boycott" against U.S. based services as well? There are some good narratives, and there are some bad narratives. I believe boycott all Russians "because Ukraine" is not a good narrative.
2629  Economy / Gambling / Question for regular casino players. Will you use Lightning if available? on: April 19, 2022, 07:09:34 AM
I made a topic 4 years ago that asked if casino site owners and operators were interested in integrating/implementing the Lightning Network for their service. It had just three replies, and two were mine. Hahaha.

I want to ask again, and this time to the users. Will you use the Lightning Network if available? Or will you continue to use whichever altcoin you're currently using?
2630  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: April 19, 2022, 05:55:55 AM
OK, there's drama behind it. But from a speculator's perspective and if we move away from the drama, and concentrate on the technology of the protocol and what functionality it can bring to Bitcoin, I believe there's a new narrative to build on to push Bitcoin to six digits?

Well, the technology is exactly what TARO stole from an open source project, named RGB.
Technically you cannot steal an open source code, but omitting to credit the original developers for the sake of obtaining funding, well, it's borderline with non ethical behavior.
I already discussed it here and here, not to derail too much this thread.

Besides this technology being copied without attribution, I don't understand why Wind_FURY is always so focused on dollar-denominated Bitcoin price.

Quote

Does he believe people work for free to improve Bitcoin just so there is a new narrative to build on to push Bitcoin to six digits? People like those that work on RGB who put in their own free time and money to improve Bitcoin, make it more usable, faster, secure, to add more features like tokens - they don't do it just so some random investor can double his investment. These are genuine attempts to improve Bitcoin as a currency, as a means of payment and much more.

Sure, it can get more valuable if it's got more features, but please let's not always think 'price first' - that's what shitcoiners do. Adding whatever people find fun and cool so they pump their coin, then dump everything. Just about profit, no spirit of anarchistic independent money (often no nodes exist in those projects) or banking the unbanked.

I was merely suggesting Taro from a technological perspective, without the drama. Will it improve Bitcoin to be more than what it is today? Will it help onboard more users from other cryptocurrencies, from Ethereum perhaps? Will it be the next narrative during the next bull cycle? It was simply a shower-thought.

Do the free spins have an expiration date, or maybe only have a list of slots where they are allowed to be played? I'm logged in right now, and I'm trying to play but I don't see any free spins available. Plus I can't find a dashboard or something that notifies that I have received free spins.
2633  Economy / Gambling / Re: Another New Rule On Gambling Adverts Ban Celebrities and Sports Stars on: April 18, 2022, 08:17:55 AM
I believe not. Because they do have a point. There was also the same kind of prohibition in how to advertise cigarette brands which was very effective in lowering smoking rates in young people.

Perhaps you have a point there. By banning smoking advertisements the tobacco industry did in fact get hit by a large toll that they were not expecting and the young people did start smoking less. But that might just be a subjective view of the banning ads sitation, which might not be applicable to the gambling world. Gambling, while harmful to your mental health and wallet, might not be seen as great of a danger to merit a full advertising ban.

I don't know where you're from, because as I know it, gambling ads are freely shown during football games, and other sporting events in the United Kingdom. That's why they don't want celebrities and sports stars in advertisements connected to casinos and gambling.

I believe gambling ads are even banned entirely in some countries.

Quote

And if the ban is only partial, not a full ban. I think they will find new ways to go around it. So how effective can it possibly be?

That's another debate. But they will be fined or have their licenses revoked if they are caught doing that.

Quote

The arbitrary nature of the ban is what makes me think its more of strategic move by regulators rather than by concerned parents.

It's only arbitrary because there are so many sports stars and celebrities for the regulators to choose from. But the intent of the rule is clear in my opinion.
2634  Economy / Gambling / Re: Another New Rule On Gambling Adverts Ban Celebrities and Sports Stars on: April 17, 2022, 11:49:19 AM
Quoted from bbc.com news

https://www.bbc.com/news/business-60994728
Quote
Starting in October, gambling companies will not be allowed to use stars to target children under 18, the Advertising Practices Committee said.

Anyone with a "strong appeal" to young people, such as footballer Cristiano Ronaldo and Love Island star Chris Hughes, should not appear in advertisements.

The body representing betting companies said it welcomed the new rules.

Michael Dugher, chief executive of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) said the changes build on industry-led measures designed to "raise standards and ensure further protection in advertising."

The Advertising Practices Committee (CAP) said the "hard" new rules were part of its commitment to protecting young people and vulnerable audiences.

The new rules state that gambling and lottery advertisements must not "be a strong attraction to children or youth, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture".

References to video game content and gameplay popular with under-18s are also against the new rules.

There is opposition to gambling advertisements among some politicians, parents, and awareness campaigning groups around gambling addiction.

What impact will be received by gambling companies, both fiat and crypto, because we know that gambling companies use celebrities to boost the popularity of these gambling sites?

In terms of promotion, the gambling company may change its strategy in using these celebrities or use an age limit for those allowed to see these advertisements.

But from another perspective, it doesn't seem easy to do because children under 18 years old may already know how to see the ad. But indeed, the problem of gambling addiction is a very serious problem that needs everyone's attention. They can play gambling but with strict terms and conditions.

That seems extremely arbitrary to me. Who is to say which stars appeal to children and which ones do not? If the famous footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo is considered a child favorite star, even though like 98% of his fans are adults, then what about any stars in movies or shows? Children watch tv too.

It is, but I believe it would be safe to say that the biggest sports celebrities like Ronaldo, or Lebron James have the kind of "star appeal" that appeals to minors. Young people idolize them to the point that they sometimes become a role model.

Quote

I like that there is more concern about gambling and keeping children away from habits which can be harmful to their development, but in this case, it would rather seem like they are just using children as an excuse to give themselves dicator-like power over gambling casinos.

Or is there a list of "forbidden stars"?

I believe not. Because they do have a point. There was also the same kind of prohibition in how to advertise cigarette brands which was very effective in lowering smoking rates in young people.
2635  Economy / Gambling / Re: Watching Our Kids From Something That Could Dangerous To Them on: April 17, 2022, 09:56:04 AM
Is there literally a Parent that would love their children become gambler or at least go to different area where we only wanted them to find best living?

I believe that perception would change if that parent's child is a good in "some forms of gambling"? For example trading stocks/commodities/cryptocurrencies could be a form of gambling. If someone is in the top 10% to make it a living, then why not? Another "form of gambling" that you can turn the odds to your side is poker.

Quote

i don't think there are one that in His good mind , so as parent we wanted to prevent this to happen so lets monitor everything that our children may turn too.
I will watch My kids as long as I have Eyes to use it and Ear to listen , as long as I am present in their life? will always be there to make things best.

But gambling is can also be an addiction for some people. It's not a recommended hobby for everyone. If you see your kid at an early age play those games/apps that have them win free tokens/points from playing "games", make them stop. That might start the addiction. It has something to do with constant dopamine release in the brain at a very early age.
2636  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are you Still Supporting And Playing On Newly Launch Casinos on: April 17, 2022, 09:38:01 AM
Almost every week there are one or two new casinos launching here, this section is already a big number of casinos there are good and bad new casinos here, these new casinos know that for them to stay in the game and be competitive they have offer new things and bonuses and giveaways.

Are you still supporting new casinos even if you're already playing in so many casinos do you still have room for new casino to deposit and play?

If you're a regular casino player, I believe there's nothing wrong with testing new services/casinos, especially if they have better UI/UX, or new games that you like. Plus trying new services for small amounts of your Bitcoin and your time is definitely good for ecosystem growth, and not just the gambling ecosystem but Bitcoin's whole economic ecosystem as well.

I will try a new casino, if they offer something that other casinos are not offering me. It is very rare to find a new casino that are offering something unique or something that the old casinos have not done before

The new casinos can offer VERY low RTP for instance.... but you might find that they have very strict withdrawal requirements or very low minimum bets. There are also a risk that the new casino might just be a scam site and that they might never pay out your winnings. (White label casinos are very cheap these days)  Roll Eyes

I believe a generous welcome bonus, and good cashback scheme would be enough to the attention of most regular casino players?
2637  Other / Archival / Re: Announcing Wasabi Wallet 2.0 on: April 17, 2022, 05:42:54 AM
I know it's counterintuitive, but for newbies/ordinary, non-hardcore users it's better to use a mixer, or a CoinJoin application that filters out hacked/stolen coins if because they merely want privacy and untraceability. Would you say it's "OK" for them to use some mixer that could taint their coins if all they want is mere privacy? What would you say to them if they're coins are withheld by an exchange because of taint?

It's simply a trade-off.

don't worry everyone, _every_ corporate backed protocol has always failed since day dot. The smart ones sucked as much money as they could from their dumb customers, then bailed out before the company started circling the drain. Lightning Labs will be no different

2639  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: April 15, 2022, 10:24:32 AM

I'm currently taking a free course on basic options trading, and while researching about options exchanges, I discovered a decentralized options exchange built on Ethereum. I'm starting to believe that some altcoins might not be actual "shitcoins", and they might actually be useful specifically for wealth-building.

Nothing wrong with getting even more sophisticated in your approach or even adding trading and various financial instruments - whether they involve shitcoins or not.  I have never taken the position that you cannot make money on shitcoins or getting involved in various shitcoin systems, but in my thinking you still need to make sure that you are not getting too distracted with how you spend your time and your money.... the younger you are or maybe the more that you are interested in dabbling into various kinds of smoke and mirror topics, the more that you might be able to risk some of your bitcoin investment into various shitcoin projects - but I would also be careful of trying to consider them as anything even close to bitcoin - even if there might be a variety of ways to potentially increase your value by gambling and putting money into those various products. Seems to also go beyond the topic of this thread, for sure.

I'm starting to find it necessary for what I need, but I can always use Deribit although I don't find long term call options that expire for more than one year in their exchange. I'm merely trying to be ready for a March 2020-like crash situation. I believe if there was a long term call option available during that particular crash, with a strike price of $50,000, that would have been a very profitable "gamble".
