1921  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is anyone working in a "pruned download"? on: October 19, 2022, 11:50:18 AM

Home yes, school possibly, office only if you own the company. Putting non work software on your work PC is a good way to get fired. Also, unless you are remote work and connecting to an office PC, more and more offices are shutting down PCs and everything else at night. It's a bit more secure and saves power.

Unless you are government official of some corrupt country, than you can run anything you want Cheesy
I know several examples of people like that doing Bitcoin for years in some countries (maybe they still are), and story even broke out in news.

OR if you work for a government office, which 100% has dirty politicians, then you definitely SHOULD install a Bitcoin node in ALL those government computers. Make them mine unprofitably too! It will be considered a public service. Ot's probably one of the demonstrations of the importance of pruning, you can stealth-install Bitcoin nodes in computers you don't own. Cool
1922  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Split the prize or Reroll? on: October 19, 2022, 09:57:00 AM
Let's say you join a give away with other user and both have to select a number between 1 and 10, you go for 7 while he goes for 9. The winning number is 8.

If the prize is 0.1BTC what would you do? Split the prize and walk away with 0.05 or Reroll to gamble for the full prize?

I say it depends on the situation but judging the said scenario, I'm already lucky to win half of the prize and re-rolling it again doesn't guarantee that I will walk away with the full prize because my chances aren't that great too. Plus, in my situation, that kind of money is already huge as it would take me few months of labor just to have that amount.
If you are living on a country which dollars is really indeed valuable or high then you would be basically be agreeing on split and would already ensure that you had the money rather than on making yourself fight on

having a re-roll just because you do believe that you could get the entire amount on next roll which is really indicates that you are just being too greedy.

Well, everything would be depending on the organizer if ever they would decide to split up the prize in half with other winner or simply re-roll just to have that 1 winner.

How can it be being "too greedy"? It's a giveaway with having no personal financial risk for the player. Giveaways are supposed to be played for fun without any expectation of winning anything. Being greedy, or being an "opportunist", would be to join the giveaway with a profit-motive. I know participants are incentivized to join, but the prizes are supposed to be just a bonus.

I play only Craps, and I'm a newbie/pleb. I believe you're right, I probably need to find a new betting strategy with lower win/lose volatility to help me avoid being emotional.

Has anyone tried to play Craps? It's one of the most enjoyable casino dice games with low house edge. A small amount of money can let you play for hours if you play a safe betting strategy like the Three-Point-Molly.
I would say that it’s not about being a newbie or a veteran neither, you could definitely become good overnight, all you have to do is study what the masters of blackjack does, what their strategy is, like mr.brightside, and repeat that and do not get out of the zone just because you lost some, if you keep grinding it, you would probably still lose Cheesy because it’s a casino and you should technically lose in the long run, but you would at least have a better angle on how to gamble, and would lose a lot less.

Craps is a game I have never gambled, it's beyond my scope of casino games, and I just do not like going into new games, like to stay with the ones I know.

I believe you, or EVERYONE, should definitely try it/learn to play it. What would probably be very good for the user/player is Craps is not a "game of chance" because there are some rolls that require more rolls to make a winning for losing bet, which encourages the use of different strategies to win in the game. There's no such thing as a "universal strategy".

I’m playing craps too because it has a low house edge and you can stay playing this game because there’s a draw on this game if on some bet choices while the payrate is good. I usually just bet on 4&10 including the doubles and play slow. You can win early with huge amount once your initial bets win without 7 appearing. But this game sometimes frustrating if you have no patience since this is a slow game if you are just betting 1 at a time.

I want to learn how to play it more properly, proper betting strategies and techniques in how to follow up to "Y" if "X" happens. There's a lot of guides and videos in YouTube, to which, my favorite is the Color Up channel.

There's many ways to win, but the secret is to know when to stop, because the 7 come in an average of 6 rolls, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WgZZsvwV_3g

It's properly explained that if you win two rolls, you should reset your bets. I have not tried if we can pull our bets and reset, but we can skip some rolls.
1925  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Split the prize or Reroll? on: October 18, 2022, 08:18:52 AM
The value obtained is the reason many members prefer to split it if the prize is not as big as 0.05 (For me it is big) they may choose to reroll, but there are also those who choose to reroll because they are a risk taker.
Whatever it is because this is a giveaway, split it or rerolling it doesn't matter and should be no one will feel lost, the decisions should be determined by mutual agreement with other parties so both parties happy with that.

But from this viewpoint, if it's just a giveaway with no financial risk taken by you, personally if I was given that choice, I would choose the reroll. Giveaways are supposed to be fun for the community, it's not for getting anything from it except an enjoyable experience for everyone. The prize, if you win, should just be a bonus.

I believe that anyone who participates in giveaways SHOULD be a risk-taker.
1926  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is anyone working in a "pruned download"? on: October 18, 2022, 06:38:32 AM

Sometimes office/home/school computers can also double as a  Bitcoin node, no?

There's no reason a school runs a Bitcoin node, unless they taught it. Businesses and offices, and any other entity that uses bitcoin should be running one (preferably non-pruned).

Academia can run a node for any purpose, whether financial, educational, or experimental. But my point is running a node by using computers not "officially" supposed to run a node. If a rebellious school university employee secretly installed Bitcoin nodes in the computers at work for example. I believe pruned nodes will be quite useful for that. I know it's a bad example, but you get the point. It helps the network to give users the option how much disk space they want to allocate for their nodes.
1927  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is anyone working in a "pruned download"? on: October 17, 2022, 11:08:04 AM
Rant.....
I would really like to see the entire concept of the pruned node removed. Either run a node or don't. There seem to be more and more people who want to have a node running on drives that don't have enough space that wind up going the pruned node route and then wonder why they can't import a private key or are having some other issue that comes back to the fact that you can't go back to a full node without re-downloading everything. Spinning 1TB drives are under $40.00 as are 512GB SSD it's no longer that big a deal.
...end rant

-Dave

I don't know if I can agree, but yeah, the more actual archive nodes out there, the better for IDB for those new users. Especially for a decentralized network, the Bitcoin Blockchain must be made as redundant as possible. BUT pruned nodes also help Bitcoin to decentralize further by giving those computers with low available disk space to join the network. Sometimes office/home/school computers can also double as a  Bitcoin node, no?
1928  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What contests do you want to see on the Dice platform? on: October 17, 2022, 10:50:39 AM
As you already understood, we are a new platform that is only at the initial stage of its development. This week will be the finished integration of the automated bidding feature and we have been thinking about contests in this forum. That's why we're here and want to know which weekly contests you think would be interesting! Friends do you have any ideas related to dice game that you would like to see? We would appreciate any constructive feedback.

For contests, I believe it would be good for the casino to encourage the community to actually log in, and have the admins organize the contests IN the casino. Go to BlackJack.fun, it has a voting feature for who had the most wagers and biggest wins in an hourly, daily, and weekly basis. It encourges us plebs to follow, know the whales of the site, and talk to them in the chat-box. In the chat-box, there's a tipping feature for the whales to use to tip the plebs. It's a community.

For contests related to Dice Games, a CRAPS TOURNAMENT! Cool
1929  Economy / Gambling / Re: Blackjack.fun | Live tables | Baccarat |Slots| InstantWithraw on: October 17, 2022, 08:33:10 AM

Did anyone visit the chatbox? Everyone is looking for "Mr. Diggy". There were replies that said, "He's in the hospital being cured for hemorroids". Haha.

I believe this is because the Digdigdigger can’t access recently after the daily competition ends. Many user are waiting to claim the daily rewards spin while digger is showing error once we try to browse it. I still don’t claim my reward spin because I still can’t access it with an unknown error when I open it few hours ago. I guess it’s time for me to try dig again rn.

You didn't understand the joke of those people in the chat-box. They were making joke about "Diggy" being "used and abused", then he suffers from hemorroids! Hahaha!

It will give you slight advantage in any game that can be played that utilizes some form of strategy. I was so inspired by Mr. Brightside, that I played longer than my usual one or two hours, then I started losing in Craps, becoming emotional/no longer disciplined. Hahaha.

It wasn't a very big loss, but it would have been smaller if I quit before becoming emotional. Lesson learned. Cool

This is possible if you have done something for a long time and saw the advantages of it. If you are a newbie gambler and haven't played blackjack for too long, or any other game, and you see a strategy and you do it, and if you end up losing a few times in a row, then you are going to be pretty upset about it and change it.

However, if you are a master of it, and even if you lose a few times in a row, you will know that as long as you keep pushing it and follow your own rules, you are going to bounce back. This is only possible with experience, no newbie could be born this way, and brightside had that experience to grind through any problems along the way and win.

It's very amusing that when I started the topic, a lot of people didn't believe that inflation was truly coming. It's that, probably the situation wasn't just the same for the different regions around the globe, which made it look that the point of the topic is misunderstood. Inflation is coming if it has not arrived in your country yet, and it might not end until the war between Russia and Ukraine ends. Let's hope it will be soon.

Are there people from France who go regularly to BitcoinTalk? Or have relatives living in France? I have one former "acquaintance", and she's telling me that there are too many gas stations in France that have low, or no, fuel because the strikes in refineries will not stop. Fuel prices are also very high. People are also getting into fights to put fuel in their cars.

It will affect small businesses first, causing them to close shop, then more and more people will be unemployed, affecting bigger businesses. Recession is next.

I think this is happening in many countries, I have a friend in Asia and he just told me that his local gas station has been mass closing for the past few days and the cause is believed to be due to lack of supply. He said people could not go to work because the main means of transport were motorbikes and cars, and children had to miss school due to the interruption of transportation to and from school...

Is your friend from Sri Lanka, or maybe Pakistan? I believe those two countries are/have been absolutely been affected in Asia, but in France it's probably different. This map was posted in Reddit.

That's perhaps 99.9% of Gas Station in France. That can't be true, that's probably a meme.

He said even if oil prices are as high as they were in March/April this is still not going to happen, but it is happening right now even though world oil prices are already much lower than in previous months. If this situation persists, recession is inevitable.

OPEC+ has already agreed to cut supplies for crude oil to "make the price more stable". I believe that means, "to stop the price from going lower and lower".

That's very inspiring, BJF! Mr. Brightside must really be a mathematician, a coder or someone very smart to beat the game of BlackJack as consistently as him.

Plus BlackJack.fun has also exhibited/shown that it cares about its players, and the community of players that's growing around the casino. Some casinos might probably hide the fact that the house was beaten consistently. Haha.

In this story, he really beats the house but there’s no way to beat the house consistently in the long run even if you are a mathematician since Blackjack games is now card counting proof especially the house game and live blackjacks since you can’t determine how many cards in the holder and if they are putting a complete set of cards since they change shoe when the card is already half while your card count will reset without determining the best EV for your game.

I’m interested to know how much the PnL of @MrBrightside in all sessions on Blackjack.fun casino. Playing with discipline and huge bank roll will give you a slight advantage in BJ.

I think with the ongoing pandemic and the war in Ukraine,
it has inflicted so much in economies worldwide.

COVID-19 is ongoing, but the economies around the world have opened up, and it's NOT only supply side inflation that's causing the prices of goods/services to go up. It's also the demand side. There was non-stop BRRR-money-printing during 2020 - 2021 around most Central Banks to pump their economies with liquidity to avoid a recession, and with all that money in people's pockets, and with the opening of the economy, WITH smaller supply of goods caused by Russia vs. Ukraine, what do we have? A contagion of inflation.
1934  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: October 15, 2022, 07:22:56 AM
BTC performed well on a risk-adjusted basis.
I can pick a stock that outperforms the S&P but if the Risk far outweighs the Reward then you're just gambling.

In dealing with bitcoin, the risk does not outweigh the reward as you've thought, this is bitcoin we are talking about and not altcoin, the least you could loose is the volatile changes in price which has nothing to do with loosing your entire fund, you could also realise profit is the trends surges, but before you could engage with bitcoin investment you must ensure you understand how to trade, buy and sell on a right timing, bitcoin is not like other investment platforms, it's a currency and asset.

The ease, or difficulty of "the right timing" would depend in your time preference. The HODL requires very low time preference, which then gives the investor a large margin for error in his/her bids. The shorter and shorter time frame you go, your time preference also go higher and higher, which then causes the investor a smaller and smaller margin for error.

I believe the best path in finding "the right timing" for plebs like us is simply to zoom out and buy during the lows of the bear market.

$BTC accumulation level reached a 7-year high.

Over 6-month-old Bitcoins now take 74% of the realized cap. It was 70%, and 77% at the last bottoms in 2019, and 2015 respectively.

Imagine you buy Bitcoins and do nothing over six months. You know how hard it is.

Gmaxwell, I hope you don't mind being asked this question, but who would he your No.1 candidate to be Satoshi Nakamoto? Would he be someone from within the Cypherpunk mailing list? Or an outsider?
I think it doesn't matter-- the whole innovation in Bitcoin was finding a way to make whomever created it not matter, and so it's disrespectful to both the invention and the creator to speculate.   Also, it's potentially really harmful to the target of speculation and their families.

I don't think it conflicts with the above to point out that the vast majority of the people that people speculate about have zero chance of being Bitcoin's creator based on my expertise and direct experience.

I believe you're right. If it's coming from you it might cause some drama, and some pointless noise in Bitcoin Land. They will put words in your mouth with headlines that will be, "Gregory Maxwell has strong lead on the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, inventor of Bitcoin". Hahaha.

"No, it was just a forum post answering a stupid pleb, stop following me". Cool

1937  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Google partners with Coinbase to accept crypto payments for cloud service on: October 13, 2022, 11:56:19 AM
My point is this, unless there are many jobs that pay in Bitcoin, do they expect Google service users to buy Bitcoin then use that to pay Google? Because it would have been more efficient to pay in fiat directly, unless Google accepts Bitcoin only.

Plus just ignore me, it was just a shower thought, I know I look nit-picky posting it. But it is still probably a wasteful way to use Bitcoin, especially if you have other payment methods.

My point is - it is not useless, but the effect of this announcement is less than people wish it could. It is clear that with time, it will be possible to pay in crypto for other Google services. But right now, cloud service, I think, isnt the main source of Google's income or not so many payments are done for cloud service, compared to payments for ads. People have already pumped those news like crypto adoption for whole Google, but this is just one service. This has similar effect of Tesla accepting dogecoin, with a minor clarification - only as a payment for accessories.

My point is not about whether it's good or bad that Google started to "accept" Bitcoin as payment. It's about, technically, does Google truly started to accept Bitcoin as payment.

All of you probably have gambled in Bitcoin casinos. You would probably know the difference between making a Bitcoin deposit direct to a casino, and a deposit to a third party processor and then deposit "pretend Bitcoins" to the casino. If that becomes the standard way to adopt Bitcoin, what do we need POW for?

Tin-foil hats on but I believe it was someone who pretended to be an outsider, but was actually a regular. Cool

Who were the first people in that mailing list who became intruiged by the "concept/idea" of Bitcoin? One of those people might be Satoshi.

<snip>
The OP should expect that he might get some "issues" when it comes on claiming the bonuses/winnings from the deposit bonuses since he will be dealing with different casinos to try his luck out. But thinking positive, if he choose the right casino to play at, there will be less issues when withdrawing these wins from the bonus.

THAT'S the actual purpose of this topic, to find out from YOU, based on YOUR experiences, which are the best casinos to deposit to get and fulfill the requirements for first time depost bonuses.

I'm not going to break any rules, I will simply play according to the conditions of getting the bonus. If I have completed the requirements and complied according to the rules, what would be the problem.
