2581  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Voting results of BIP´s & Hard/Soft Forks on: April 23, 2022, 01:00:17 PM
Ist there a way to see a transparent documented development process that led for example to the SegWit ubdate and the BCH hard fork?

What kind of document are you looking for? An "official document" saying that "this is what actually happened"? There's none, but Aaron Van Wirdum wrote this for Bitcoin Magazine, https://bitcoinmagazine.com/technical/the-long-road-to-segwit-how-bitcoins-biggest-protocol-upgrade-became-reality

The people from the Bitcoin Cash community might say it's not the most objective/accurate article telling those events though.
2582  Economy / Speculation / Re: Buy the DIP, and HODL! on: April 23, 2022, 12:28:13 PM
Indeed, for people who are optimistic about bitcoin, choosing a buy the dip and HOLD strategy is a good strategy to add to their portfolio. However, as an investment strategy, of course, buying the dip must be accompanied by controlling risk. One of them is by determining the target selling price when we buy when the price drops.

That's a sound strategy if you're an investor who's managing a very large portfolio. For plebs like us, and especially if you want a hedge against a non-elected cabal in control of monetary systems, the HODL is the best path in my opinion.

Bitcoin is slowly pricing in new information everytime/everywhere when it survives market crashes, and chugs along after other problems political, legal, or technical. BUT the true underlying nature of Bitcoin has not been priced in yet. Zoom out, and always HODL ser. Don't make it easy for the billionaires to take your Bitcoin away from you.

2583  Other / Archival / Re: Announcing Wasabi Wallet 2.0 on: April 23, 2022, 10:23:03 AM
Would you say it's "OK" for them to use some mixer that could taint their coins if all they want is mere privacy?
Well, first of all, the anonymity set of 'all UTXOs' is much larger than 'only the clean ones', so by definition, not caring about taint gives you more privacy. Do note that not all 'tainters' have the same definition; which means to be 'really on the safe side', you need to take the intersection of all 'clean pools' and try to get a UTXO out of there. I believe it will prove pretty difficult. I mean, what's the utility if you get a 'clean coinbase utxo' which you can only send back to Coinbase, because other exchanges have a different definition and according to them, it is tainted?

What would you say to them if they're coins are withheld by an exchange because of taint?
You just told me your friends care about privacy, but then you are telling me they use a centralized exchange. This doesn't add up. If they care about privacy, they are using a decentralized exchange which doesn't care about some arbitrary party's definition of taint.

I have deleted my original post, in reply to you. I don't want to be offensive, but get the real context of my original point. "My friends" are ordinary users who merely want to make their transactions sent to porn sites, and sex toy merchants to be untraceable from their wallets. They don't care about privacy as "privacy in an idealistic sense". They merely want privacy in a practical sense.

Hey, no need to delete anything, please! We're just discussing, it's all good. I understand; they want privacy from their significant other or something like that - well for that prepaid cards could suffice or maybe they should just sort out their personal issues. Anyhow; if they do buy something that has to be secret in their marriage (but also possibly country / community / social circle), do note that if they buy through a centralized exchange, their wife could get the withdrawal address from the exchange by calling them. Then she could trace the payment. Is this why they would want to use CoinJoin (through Wasabi)? If the wife wouldn't go to such lengths, the only 'privacy issue' would be that the exchange knows they're buying adult material; why is that an issue? If it's not a marital issue but indeed a political one, they should be much more careful and really avoid a centralized exchange; no matter if coinjoining or not.
So while I get your point in a way, personally I try not only telling people about Bitcoin but also how / where to get it and why. They should get a full understanding of what they're pouring their hard earned money into, and not live in an illusion of privacy or security when there is none.

Ser, you're nitpicking, and you're trying to take the discussion out of context, therefore creating a straw man. That post of yours is not the point. The point is there will be Bitcoin users who merely want a little privacy/untraceablity without the danger of the taint. Does everything have to be in an idealistic sense? If you believe yes, then would you recommend everyone to buy and HODL Monero? I believe they are very idealistic about privacy.
2584  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: April 23, 2022, 10:06:56 AM
i.e. any profit margin is always thin in a free and open market

the typical behavior of large operators is to:

1. be unhappy
2. find a way to increase the fixed costs of business for everyone in the market, to drive the smaller operators out
3. find a way to (softly) get customers to accept higher prices (trying to manipulate how they think is quite usual)

so we can expect that to happen with Lightning node operators at some point, at least some kind of attempt at it

I don't tend to believe that node operators will be that nefarious as you posted. I believe it will simply be natural economics. If demand for Lightning transactions increase, naturally if the supply is both limited and valuable, fees to send transactions through those payment channels will increase.
2585  Economy / Gambling / Re: ⭐ BTCGOSU ⭐ Your Trusted Guide to the Best Bitcoin Casinos ⭐ on: April 22, 2022, 12:45:28 PM
BTCGOSU, nice, informative reviews! As a dynamic feature for your review site that will give something new for users every month, is it possible for BTCGOSU to make a list of the top 5 bonuses for each and every month? I believe something that would help the users build their capital for gambling through bonus collection. Help the users' build their capital, would also help the gambling industry in crypto succeed.
2586  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are new bitcoin users early or late to the party? on: April 22, 2022, 12:09:37 PM
OP, VERY EARLY. The definition of what Bitcoin truly is isn't even established yet, and it might never be established. What is it? You can ask 5 different people, and they can give you 5 different answers.

The main shower-thought that makes me believe that it's still very early is, no one has realized what Bitcoin's real underlying nature is yet. With censorhip-resistance, it could be, that nation-states could utilize Bitcoin to weaken political strongholds. That's a powerful tool, and it might take some time before that realization is reflected in the price.
2587  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we entering the era of CBDCs? on: April 22, 2022, 09:58:58 AM
CBDC is essentially electronic cash. Like traditional fiat currencies. Central banks are increasingly concerned about losing control of money supply and payment systems, as cryptocurrencies are becoming more prevalent in payment transactions. Since CBDCs are issued by a central bank, they can achieve the benefits of central bank issued currency without the problems of the unregulated decentralized currency.

The IMF reports that almost 100 countries are analyzing the possibility of introducing central bank digital currency (CBDC), and some of these countries have already begun the implementation process. So, yes, we may be entering an era where these digital currencies will become more common. But I don't believe they will replace national currencies anytime soon. In fact, most likely, they will co-exist with national currencies for the foreseeable future, complementing them rather than replacing them.

There's a fat guy in the Bank of International Settlements who would be very satisfied once all 100 countries in that IMF's report builds and launches their CBDCs. I don't debate the fact that we are entering the era of CBDCs, but as Bitcoiners, we shouldn't be bullish about the "coming era". It will stand for everything opposite of Bitcoin.

Sers, don't take what I said out of context. Because if you truly were trying to understand what I said in "the whole network is literally living off incentivization", you would realize that it's true. From top to bottom, from the miners to the memers.

Altruism WAS necessary to bootstrap the network, incentivization IS necessary for the network to continue chugging along.

I understand that you are responding to both of us, and surely BlackHatCoiner can speak for himself - nonetheless, I doubt that either of us are being unfair to you.

Personally, I have no problem accepting that shitcoin pumpening happens and is likely an inevitable phenomenon - but the mere fact that it happens and is likely inevitable neither means that it is necessary nor does it mean that any of us need to talk endearingly about it.. or even to frame the matter as if shitcoins were equal to bitcoin or that they bitcoin needs them in order to strive or survive - which seems to be your ongoing presumption in your ongoing striving to supposedly speak truths, Wind_FURY.

You can write about these matters however you like, but you seem to be bringing backlash upon yourself - because you seem to either ongoingly be engaging in shitcoin pumpening or just unnecessary shit stirring out of your supposed "more accurate" view of matters.  You do what you like, but there are likely several bitcoiners, including yours truly who will respond from time to time - because we are in a public forum and some of us just have difficulties letting such ongoing sloppy presentations to slide and likely cause more confusion that may well even mislead some folks - especially newbies.

I'm not trying to disrespect you, JayJuan, but that's just another long-winded post that didn't address the point, or try to get everything back in context.

Going back to the point of incentives/incentive-structures making everything stick together, it will also apply with the Lightning Network. Boot-strapping phase is currently altruistic but as more and more users enter expecting better/more reliable routes, I have debated that more specialized, more efficient routing nodes will be competing against each other for fees.
2589  Economy / Gambling / Re: Question for regular casino players. Will you use Lightning if available? on: April 22, 2022, 05:28:50 AM
I made a topic 4 years ago that asked if casino site owners and operators were interested in integrating/implementing the Lightning Network for their service. It had just three replies, and two were mine. Hahaha.

I want to ask again, and this time to the users. Will you use the Lightning Network if available? Or will you continue to use whichever altcoin you're currently using?
Lets put up some sites that do accept LN payment.

https://betplay.io/en/
https://thunderpick.com/
https://simpledice.com/
https://luckydice.com/

Havent tried or tested if it does work smoothly but its good that there are platforms who do make use of it.

I'll register to one of them, and try it through simple steps anyone can do using BlueWallet, a mobile app. I hope I win so we can see how withdrawals work. Plus another problem for regular Lightning users is converting their coins offchain to onchain. They need use a service like, https://zigzag.io/#/ which requires the user to pay more fees. I believe those casinos/gambling sites should give a choice for both offchain and onchain withdrawals even if the deposit was offchain.

2591  Economy / Gambling / Give me your top 5 of casino/gambling site bonuses for the month of April on: April 21, 2022, 11:17:00 AM
I am starting this topic to collect a list of what YOU recommend to be the top 5 bonuses for casinos, and other gambling sites, like sports betting, for the month of April. Plus what are the bonuses that you are currently playing? It doesn't need to be a long review. List your top 5, how much are the bonuses, and a rating of 1 to 5.
2592  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: sports betting sites that return your money when you lose. on: April 21, 2022, 08:16:36 AM
As others here have said just keep in mind that there tends to be “catches” with every type of offer when it comes to getting money back. Now I personally don’t know of any online casinos, or offshore casinos I should say, that give some losses back ,but I do know some of the biggest players like FanDuel will give a small amount lost back but only on your very first bet I believe. All of the other money back opportunities that I know of tend to be bonuses.

That's merely a promo, a strategy to encourage more occasional users to try their service. All of the other money back opportunities besides bonuses are in "cash backs". They are amounts of money given back to the user, which are based on how much fees were paid by that user on a monthly duration. OP's site is different, the title literally says "return your money when you lose".
2593  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: April 21, 2022, 06:55:54 AM

Wind Fury, enjoy the profit, HODL, have some diamond hands, whatever, you're allowed to say and do whatever you want. But, please, don't make it look like the Ether-scum where they can't look forward for upgrades and 2.0 gibberish to see green candles.

Am I making it look like Ether-scum? I was merely saying that Taro might attract developers from other projects, and start actually building on top of Bitcoin, which might also attract more liquidity for the network, then naturally more investors. Does that make it look like Ether-scum for you?

Ser, I would be lying if I said that I didn't care about Bitcoin's price. I did buy and HODL them as an investment first and foremost. Didn't anyone?

Plus what's with that tone? Why does it look like that you are always trying to make me look bad? I never had any interactions with you in the forum, nor have I insulted you.
It's just that I want improvements in Bitcoin simply for the sake of having a better payment system and not for the sake of making some investor bags of money. Sure, the value of Bitcoin is that it's such a good payment system, so that's part of the reason it has a high price. But this shouldn't be the main motivation for innovation. That's why a statement like 'this new technology will get btc to the moon' generally rubs me the wrong way.

Ser, the whole network is literally living off incentivization. How do you think it's all sticking together for this long?

You have been involved in this forum long enough Wind_FURY to be able to attempt to appreciate that a lot of the bitcoiner members appreciate that members post in a way that recognizes the reality that bitcoin is both king daddy, and there is not some kind of equivalencies going on regarding what various shitcoins are doing.  If you fail to frame matters in that kind of way, then you are opening yourself up to attack, whether you are doing it on purpose or not... Maybe you really believe there is no difference between incentives in shitcoins versus various ongoing developments in bitcoin second and third layers, whether we are referring to lightning network or some other 2nd/3rd layer developments?

It seems to me that we can still acknowledge that some value might come from various shitcoin projects - in terms of potential learning about technical or implementation angles that bitcoin could take in the future (or even improve in various current development attempts) - whether referring to base layer or various kinds of second and third layers.

Seems to me that if you strive to just gloss over bitcoin differentiations - and to seem to want to pump various kinds of shitcoins as if they were equivalent to bitcoin in some kind of way or to even suggest that they are working off of the same incentives when foundationally, there are so many shitcoins that printed their own token, instead of working off of bitcoin - which thereby causes them to have lesser incentives because they have created money/making and money printing incentives for themselves on various kinds of projects that might even have some parallels in bitcoin.. but coming way earlier than bitcoin - and causing all kinds of seemingly premature pump and dump smoke and mirror nonsense going on all over the place with various shitcoins - even if you want to outline the various incentives in shitcoinlandia as if they were all the same - and equivalent to the incentives that are designed in bitcoin (if we can at least attempt to acknowledge that there is a certain amount of attempts in bitcoin to peg projects back to bitcoin's base layer and mostly acknowledge the extent to which some separate token (or business centralizations) might exist on bitcoin layer 2s and 3s that are ongoingly being developed.

Am I making it look like Ether-scum?
Well, saying that the price will go the moon resembles to this behavior.

Ser, the whole network is literally living off incentivization. How do you think it's all sticking together for this long?
This is irrelevant and it's also a hasty generalization; just because there's incentive to secure it, doesn't mean you're encouraged to keep it and dump it later in a higher price, because that's how "to the moon" sounds like.

There's development to make it more utilizable. It happens to attract investors. If the opposite occurred, it'd probably be another fraudulent, ponzi-looking situation.

That's just my opinion, by the way. I don't want to seem absolute nor am I holding the holy chalice of truth. This is just the way I perceive things.

Sers, don't take what I said out of context. Because if you truly were trying to understand what I said in "the whole network is literally living off incentivization", you would realize that it's true. From top to bottom, from the miners to the memers.

Yup. Just like what the title says. I have recently been recommended or referred (since it was a referral link that got me to register) by a friend of a friend into an online sports betting site. Being new to such things, I thought I should ask opinions from veterans here whether such things do exist or not. Although that friend claims that he had already made huge amount of cash from this site, I am still pretty skeptical and haven't topped up yet. But I gotta admit it is pretty fun and appealing to me, just wanna make sure before I put some money into it.
I would really appreciate some online gambling veteran insight Smiley)

Edit: this is the website - lmb.cc

I am pretty sure they find other creative ways to screw you over. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Either their rates suck or they randomly enforce KYC or something else. This kind of stuff won't let the casino make any profits and if the casino can't make profits it will go bankrupt. Since the house can't go bankrupt, in end it must be the players that pay for this feature. You are wise to be skeptical about this.

OP, never descibed how the mechanics of the sports betting site returns your money. Maybe the "sports betting" part is just a ploy for people to deposit their money, and the "site" is actually a Ponzi, or a Pyramid Scheme.

Plus the site currently shows an "Error 1020: Access Denied". The site owner is probably limiting who can access the site, or limiting from what regions can access the site.
2596  Economy / Gambling / Re: Another New Rule On Gambling Adverts Ban Celebrities and Sports Stars on: April 20, 2022, 08:16:10 AM

You guys don't really understand that it is not really about "banning", it never was. It is all about control. The government wants to have as much control as they can, especially over things which they consider to be harmful to a certain group of people, for example, in this case, children.

Putting such arbitrary restrictions over online casino gambling advertisments is just one way to have more freedom over what they control while making it seem like they are putting down iron-clad rules with boundaries.

I doubt they want to protect children from gambling addiction even though they make it seem that way...

The whole point of government is about control, that isn't the debate. It's if the current move by the government is "effective or not". I believe it might be effective.

To truly protect children from early exposure to anything about gambling, would you like it more if the government bans all kinds of advertising coming from casinos and all other kinds of gambling? I believe the government's ban on using celebrities and sports stars is actually a fair compromise.
2597  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: April 20, 2022, 05:50:21 AM
I have caught myself thinking, that I hardly can remember Russian gambling platform, that supports cryptocurrency. I am speaking about completely Russian platform, not a platform that supports Russian language and has a site weird machine translation. I remember only platforms that mainly support Russian rubles, and rarely EUR and USD. As a crypto forum, boycotting Russian rubles, that looks funny Cheesy

That's not the main point. The point is, why would it be the fault of Russian casino owners if Putin told his men to start invading Ukraine. The point is also about us, as Bitcoiners. Should we merely follow what our "leaders" say, or follow what the "current thing" is? In fact, we should encourage each Russian casino to accept Bitcoin to go around sanctions.
2598  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we entering the era of CBDCs? on: April 20, 2022, 05:26:45 AM
To be frank with you, that's a bad take in my opinion. CBDCs could be programmed to be "censorship-money" with a flick of a switch. It will also be easier for the govenment to ban CBDC wallets from sending deposits to exchanges, unlike cash which you can use in LocalBitcoins, or in person.

What the government, and the banks did to the truckers bank accounts in Canada? It can be done a lot simpler/more efficiently with CBDC. With CBDC, the government can control which users' wallets can transact where, and control which merchants' wallets can accept payments from which wallets. They will not do it right away at implementation though. They will market it as "a faster, cheaper and more efficient way of payment" first.
No arguments there but the assumption was about CBDCs that were created and controlled by regimes that aren't considered dictatorships like Canada's or China's. And also another assumption was that cryptocurrencies would be regulated like it is in many parts of the world. Like if Japan created their own CBDC and they already consider bitcoin a currency and have no problem with it being traded.

Given the benefit of the doubt, and those assumptions? No arguments there too, it would obviously be the most perfect world for Bitcoiners if the cabal gave us back all finacial freedom through CBDC. It would make Bitcoin more valuable in another sense. The sense that many of us would like. Cool
2599  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are we entering the era of CBDCs? on: April 19, 2022, 11:12:09 AM
Surprisingly enough the Chinese altcoin (digital yuan) seems to be doing fine as they reported a little less than $10 billion worth of transactions recorded on their chain (if we can call it a chain!). There are also at least 2 new ones coming out in the coming months.

Suddenly it seems like the central banks jumped on board of the Bitcoin train but only took the blockchain technology and ran away.

I personally don't care how many of them are created as long as they don't try to ban bitcoin or restrict its adoption in any way (like closing bank accounts of those who dump fiat for bitcoin).

There may even be some silver lining that these CBDCs could replace the stable-coins in the market in the near future and we end up even seeing Atomic Swap capabilities added where you could easily swap one CBDC for another or for bitcoin without the risk of centralized stablecoins (issued by shady companies). That would definitely simplify things for traders while significantly reducing the risks they take.

2600  Economy / Gambling / Re: Would you support a collective boycott of all Russian gambling platforms? on: April 19, 2022, 07:31:25 AM
The topic has been here for a while, does anyone managed to support it I didn't managed to support it since none of the gambling site I most play is not from Russia and I am not that active bettor. I would like to know if there's an impact of this boycott thing in Russia.
Although this topic have created last month I don't see with effective because still have gamble keep active using Russian gambling platform, looks like have some competitive gambling here and have other gambling platform try how to give bad reputation from Russian gambling platform by asking to boycott. I don't this is true when give announcement to boycott when losing competitive as gambling platform network and this not solution although here we all hate with war invasion did by Russia to Ukraine.
Russian based gambling sites are still active but there may be a decline on their users. Let us not give this a bad meaning thinking that the one that started this do also owns a gambling site and wants other gambling sites to go down but this advocacy can be sincere and only for the sake of punishing Russian citizen or the Russian country for what they have done with Ukraine, not also on Ukraine actually because the effect is felt on other countries as well.

What you see here is true, this is not fake. The poster of this thread is only just a regular user that also joins a signature campaign, he isn't an owner of a gambling site. If you hate what Russia did, then you can support this boycott.

It would be unfair to "punish" all Russians simply because their "leader" has made a miscalculation in judgement. The U.S. government has also made atrocities in the Middle East, with their drone attacks, killing innocent civilians. Should we start a "boycott" against U.S. based services as well? There are some good narratives, and there are some bad narratives. I believe boycott all Russians "because Ukraine" is not a good narrative.
