281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Predicted During Pokemon in 1999 on: July 03, 2019, 04:34:45 PM
I only see pokemons and nothing else, although I would be deeply interested if there really is something to be had in here. I doubt that the creator of Pokemons himself have ties to anarchist, let alone cypherpunks, knowing that at that time capitalism is what made the series a hit on all parts of the world. I would rather believe the Simpsons predicting bitcoin's inception because that show predicted a lot of things before it even happened, way more than Nostradamus' predictions lol.

Simpsons predicted 9/11, it looks too coincidental when Bart holds up a magazine of the twin towers with 9 11 printed in huge text.

I've heard Satoshi's connection to pokemon before, I'm not saying it is absurd but I'm not totally buying into it just yet.
282  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the real value of bitcoin and cryptocurrency on: July 03, 2019, 01:54:48 AM
In the most basic terms, it is worth whatever people are willing to pay for it.

Why is a Picasso painting worth hundreds of millions?
Why is a pokemon charizard card worth $5000?
Why is a rare ferrari worth $50 million?

SUPPLY AND DEMAND
283  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Put your money where your mind is (But back it up with thorough research) on: July 03, 2019, 01:44:34 AM
And a lot of people were calling Ethereum a scam at the beginning and it increased over 1000x.  People will yell and shout scam at any new project that is competing with bitcoin.  That is just the truth.  Most projects will still fail but the few gems will be insanely lucrative.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How many people bought Bitcoin because of you? on: July 03, 2019, 01:40:21 AM
I try not to be too aggressive when I'm explaining bitcoin to people and I tell them that there is always a risk that it will crash in the future.  No one knows what the future holds and it 10 years bitcoin could be completely useless, I don't think that will happen but it is possible.
285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How will Minors survive when all BitCoins are Mined? on: July 02, 2019, 04:23:16 PM
Some speculate that fees will be enough to keep the miners satisfied while others think the inflation rate of bitcoin is just temporary and everyone will eventually agree to keep it at a sustainable rate instead of the continual halvings.
286  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The time of seriousness is disappearing on: July 02, 2019, 04:15:09 PM
Out of all the people that make predictions that are bound to be some that are always right.  Pay no attention to that bitcoin "time traveler".

I would even suggest not looking at all those predictions because you will have expectations that are too high and won't be grateful for the profit you make.

287  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Psychological Technique - Play without Pressure on: July 02, 2019, 04:09:19 PM
It won't matter at all if you are playing games based on pure luck.  No mental toughness will help you win in roulette.  What it will do is allow you to walk away when you are up and not have the weakness to lose all your winnings.
288  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Would you buy a house? on: July 02, 2019, 04:05:09 PM

I don't have 500 kbc, but I'm in for 1,500 bc.  However, you don't seem very serious about selling this house.

Well, for 1.5K no, I'm not serious at all Smiley It's not an auction because I will not sell for less than what I paid for, which is what I advertised. I am dead serious about selling it, though, as it is on the market already.

I do not know if I will sell it for bitcoins, because right now it is very hard to convert them to cash even for small amounts, and I will need the cash. I could be persuaded to do part bitcoins though, and even all bitcoins if the market trend continues in the upward direction, but you are right, this is just a discussion starter, not (yet) an actual proposal.

You may be in a rude awakening when you have to sell for a price cheaper than you bought it for.  Many boomers in USA bought huge houses and the younger generation doesn't have the money to purchase them at their request prices.  Market forces dictate they have to lower the price if they want to sell their house.  IF your house is sitting on the market for too long it means your price is too high.
289  Economy / Economics / Re: What is the current tax status of crypto-currency in the USA? on: July 02, 2019, 03:59:52 PM
The important factor is intent.  If you are investigated by the IRS and it is clear you made honest mistakes and tried your best to pay taxes you won't be punished.  If you go and try to hide your source of income and partake in money laundering then they will hit you hard.
290  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why is BTC at $10,000 in the USA and also at $76,000 in Zimbabwe? on: July 02, 2019, 03:49:20 PM
Don't believe discrepancies that are this high, at most it is a 10-20 % premium that is paid in certain countries.  I've seen this happen in Korea, Iran, and a few other countries.  A lot of money can be made through arbitrage if you have the right connections set up and act quickly.
291  Economy / Economics / Re: Can bitcoin help rebuild Venezuela? - Darb Finance on: July 02, 2019, 03:40:03 PM
Venezuela has been systematically been destroyed from outside nations.  Don't believe what you hear in the media about socialism failing and this being a result of only their own government.  Countries are thirsty for their natural resources as as seen in the middle east before America will do anything to get it.
292  Economy / Speculation / Re: What. Bitcoin price dropped to 24€/BTC on: July 02, 2019, 03:30:42 PM
Ethereum once flash crashed from $300 down to 10 cents on one exchange.  A flash crash like that could happen for bitcoin but it would be an isolated event on only one exchagne depending on what kind of previous orders were set.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: around 50-60 new coin added and all of them is crap.... on: July 01, 2019, 05:11:34 PM
Anonymous teams can still be trusted as long as the distribution model is fair.  IF they hold a bunch of premined coins or implemented a founder's tax then it is best to stay away from it.  Many people thought bitcoin was a complete scam when they first heard about it.  Even today many people I know still call bitcoin a scam. Cheesy
294  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto holds 980,000 Bitcoins.. does anyone know their addresses? on: July 01, 2019, 05:02:06 PM

Craig Wright claims to be Satoshi, and a Florida court has ordered him to list all of the addresses with his bitcoin.

Apparently he burst into tears in court because he couldn't provide the addresses. What a wuss!! It's time he was locked up to stop him trying to mess up Bitcoin.

Your saying it isn't possible for Satoshi to lose his usb drives? Smiley Grin

I'm certain those 1 million bitcoins will be moved someday, whether Satoshi has them or he passed them on to someone else.
295  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Uganda says cryptocurrency is risky on: July 01, 2019, 04:52:44 PM
For 20 years now, I receive approx every day an email from an African country telling me that I have won the lottery or that I have received a donation of hundreds of millions USD.  They ask for my ID, for my bank account, etc
If I were to add these winnings the total sum of money that I have won in lottery or that has been donated to me would be approx 10 billion USD.
I usually reply to these emails and the answer that I receive is to send them money before receiving the money won in lottery or donated to me.

This is why Bitcoin has been invented, to give them the possibility to give me these winnings without giving them my ID, etc.

Everyone makes fun of those scammers but they are just doing that to survive.  It is sad they are even in that situation and don't have any other way to improve their quality of life.  I receive a lot of those blackmail e-mail from them, not sure how my e-mail got leaked but is obviously in their hands now.

296  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Universal Basic Income on: July 01, 2019, 04:37:16 PM
Until we get to the point that there are no longer any possible jobs humans can do, I don't agree with having a UBI. I don't like the thought of rewarding people for simply being alive.

I actually find the future where we have complete automation less rosy than what is portrayed in sci-fi like Star Trek. Where is the money going to come from anyway? What happens when you are branded "unsavory" and have your income cut off and there's no job you can do since everything is automated?

The money wouldn't even matter if we have more than enough resources for everyone.  You are looking at this the wrong way.   Capitalism already rewards people for simply being alive, money makes money faster than working.  Why not spread that wealth to the lower income group.  If the wealth gap gets too out of hand society crumbles apart.
297  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy btc with cash on: July 01, 2019, 04:33:46 PM
2-3 confirmations would be enough not to worry about your funds but to buy BTC with $65k cash is too risky.

It is better to choose localbitcoins and buy a much smaller amount of Bitcoin at once.

It isn't risky, just do it at a local police station or at a bank.  They let people come in and do big cash deals like this all the time.  They will even check and make sure the money isn't counterfeit for you.  Police are paid with tax dollars to serve the public while banks will do this to help bring you in as a new customer.
298  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Season on: July 01, 2019, 04:28:25 PM
People always talk about how desirable it is to play for the Knicks yet none of the big free agents go there.  First is was Lebron back in 2010 and now Durant.  The last real superstar they got in free agent was Carmelon and he is a 2nd tier star that doesn't play defense.
299  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2019 NBA Season on: June 27, 2019, 02:17:17 PM
I think it is the difference of teams success as well. Last season Harden won the MVP and his team was around the same places as this season, so when you look at it harden and rockets didn't do anything out of ordinary for them, it was expected of harden to lead rockets to top of the west conference.

On the other hand, Giannis made bucks a lot better this season (of course coach bud had a lot to do with it) and then bucks became the first seed in the east. Which means giannis both improved himself but also improved his team as well. That is why Giannis got the MVP, not because he was better than Harden but because he was the most "valuable" player, if we gave the award to the best player ever then KD or Lebron would have got all mvp's in the past decade every single year.

I don't think team record should matter at all, I would just give the mvp to the best player in the league.

For example in MLB: Alex Rodriguez won the AL MVP in 2003 and the Texas Rangers had a  Season Record of 71-91,  The NBA should take notes from the MLB.
300  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The three biggest mistakes you should avoid on: June 27, 2019, 02:11:12 PM
These are all good pointers and you can add to that HODL'ing as a worthwhile long term strategy just seek out the best value assets with good quality product offerings and the potential for increased demand as their ecosystem grows and be patient

Holding is a newbie thing to do but that doesn't mean its not smart.  Most people lack the knowledge and ability to trade so holding is their best option.  But always set a price to sell ,its not like your going to hold forever.  Sell off in chunks so you can cost average your sell price.
