I’m not sure how real this is and I didn’t put in the time to fact check it, maybe one of you want to. However, this is a shacking use of social media type apps to assassinate a rival. Seems almost too far fetched and movie like to be true, but it also seems very plausible and simple to pull off. A good case of social media sites having unintended consequences.

As a fan of Elon’s companies who loves everything they’re doing to get ready for life on Mars, I never miss an opportunity to show my support. This product supporting the Boring Company, which is no doubt preparing to build underground on the red planet to shield from radiation.

The product being burnt hair. It smells as described, but it’s oddly a good smell.

Anybody else grab one of these?
2803  Other / Archival / Re: SONDORS Metacycle - $5,000 (now $6.5K) Electric Motorcycle on: July 11, 2023, 06:42:47 PM
Well, my order is officially cancelled Sad

After trying to get an answer as to when I would get mine, and not getting an answer I called my CC company and opened a complaint figuring that they could get a better response. Got a VM from the bank that after 21 days and several attempts to contact the vendor they received 0 response so they gave me my $ back.

Sucks, but I do blame Sondors, they have been getting this reputation in the motorcycle world for a year now. People who ordered, MONTHS and MONTHS after others getting their bikes but not others. Some people (like Og) get a happy cheerful response from customer service, others are ignored.

At this point there are more low end electric city bikes out there, will have to poke around and figure out which one I want.

Probably not the worst, only have been on the CanAm like a dozen time so far this year.

-Dave

I don’t blame you. Not just for the delay but for falling short of their promises. Given the specs that the bike actually has, I wouldn’t have bought it. I think the range is about 1/2 what it needs to me and the top speed is about 10-15 mph too low to feel safe driving this thing on highways. It’s a cool bike to get a high school kid to school maybe, or for a short work commute, but it falls short for a functional motorcycle.
2804  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 10, 2023, 11:35:47 PM
Wemby is gonna take the break in the NBA summer league and will now focus on the upcoming season. This is as per the decision of his team, Spurs.

Spurs decide that Victor Wembanyama’s Summer League is over after two games

I guess this is all part of the grooming plan and he had shown enough for the summer league. The preparation for the upcoming season should be prioritized then.

Smart move. He shouldn’t be on the court until he gets more meat on his legs.

There’s a new mtgox status report out. It’s confidential so I don’t want to be the one to leak it for legal reasons, but I’m sure by morning it will be all over the place. Worth keeping an eye on if you’re a trader and want to be first in the know.
2806  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What term to use? Halving or Halvening? Term history on: July 10, 2023, 12:08:57 AM
I typically refer to it as the halving, but I saw a post somewhere on here a while back where they were saying that in order to tribute Hal Finney in a similar fashion to satoshi nakamoto with satoshis, the halving event should be referred to as the halfining. Sure, it’s the halving of the block reward, but it’s also an owed to hal when called the halfining.
2807  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 09, 2023, 09:46:44 PM
Looks like the “who’s next up” crowd has already started looking beyond Wemby to the next big thing.

https://twitter.com/ballislife/status/1678067942624317441

The numbers this kid is putting up are indeed unreal, but at that age it doesn’t mean all that much. He does appear to have skills though and more of an NBA ready body than Wemby, so maybe in another 2 years this will be the guy all over the news.
2808  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Binance cashback incentive - Would you hold BNB on the exchange? on: July 09, 2023, 08:55:35 PM
You have to wonder why Binance would offer such a thing. For me it seems obvious. They’re trying to stop a Luna or FTT situation from happening to BNB. If the market turns on BNB then Binance will be called for countless margin calls and it would instantly destroy their business. It seems they’re now playing games to try and stop that from happening. I’d be hesitant to hold BNB. Interest won’t matter if your capital disappears.
2809  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How real? That football players required to bribe before they are allowed to play on: July 09, 2023, 08:49:23 PM
As a blanket statement about all players this is obviously false. However, I’m sure there are exceptions to that rule. Especially when it comes to international football players. There is so much money being thrown at those guys, there’s literally nothing I wouldn’t believe is on the table for their behavior when it comes to cashing those sort of checks.
2810  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any good stable miners for 1080ti nowdays? on: July 09, 2023, 08:47:24 PM
While GPU profitability in mining is starting to creep up a little, I don’t think it’s quite worth firing up 1080s to heat your house during summer. I am surprised that cards like the Radeon VII are still mining profitably after all these years and in the current environment, but if you’re willing to search around you can still find some old profitable gear.
2811  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Big is the online gambling industry today? on: July 09, 2023, 08:45:37 PM
I don’t even know how you would go about measuring the true amount of online gambling that is actually occurring. It would surely take an analysis deeper than whatever they’re doing to get the number. There are so many underground casinos and shady operators out there, the only thing I’m sure of is that the online gambling industry is much larger than anyone realizes.
2812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lost bitcoins on: July 09, 2023, 08:42:29 PM
I read some old threads about lost Bitcoins ND this question has been on my mind ever since
If the lost Bitcoins were for instance recovered will the price of Bitcoin drop  because in theory it would affect the amount of Bitcoin in circulation which will lower it's price . I saw in those threads that lost Bitcoins are considered a donation to the Bitcoin network. so if my theory is correct then we should be happy those Bitcoins were lost.

The coins are considered lost for a reason. If they could be recovered then they would not be lost. However, answering your question would mean that the developers had done something to recirculate coins that haven’t been touched in some time, resulting in a loss of faith in Bitcoin itself and causing the price to crash to nearly worthless.
2813  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Development fund for your Web3 project! :) on: July 09, 2023, 08:38:22 PM
I’m not sure this thread is in the right section. This being a Bitcoin forum, things like web3 usually can not be found in the main sections of the forum. Your typically have to look to the altcoin section for this sort of thing, so perhaps if you aren’t getting the engagement you desired, you could attempt to make a thread somewhere there.

92.5% of all the bitcoin has officially been mined. Only 7.5% left.

Very cool. The race for the remaining coins intensifies…. Meanwhile, the price is the most stable in the last week as I can remember ever seeing. I had to make sure my ticker was working. It’s like you can feel the rising tide beginning to lift the boats… I think we’re building the base that’s going to rally from here up until the halving moment next April (with some blips for events here and there).
2815  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 09, 2023, 08:32:56 PM
If Wemby will have the same mentality as Timmy and David, he will be accompanied by natural talents,
imagine how Spurs build that winning team, right after the twin towers, together with all those role stars who bring them titles
and with Timmy and their own versions of big 3, Parker, Ginobli and Him.
Coach Pop is the right person for Wemby, I believe that the blueprint will continue as long as the players are willing to
bring all the best that they've got.

They already signed Pop Greg in a multi-year contract looks like they gonna work well to improve Wemby with him and get back those championships in the near future. It's alright when he didn't get big numbers in his first summer league game they are just protecting him to not get some creepy injury that will gonna cost them much if ever that happened. because skills in the NBA cannot be adopted fast by just putting the player on the court no matter how good he is and since he was the main topic of the Summer league I'm sure every player was expected to play hard against him to steal the spotlight.

I was pretty surprised to hear the news that coach Pop signed on for another four years. I had thought he already stated publicly that he was going to retire once his contract was up. I guess he changed his mind. I don’t think he’s going to be able to build Wemby into anything special. Wemby just needs to spend a few years in the weight room.
2816  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are successful gamblers seen as addicts? on: July 08, 2023, 09:03:49 PM
I guess I'm left wondering what your definition of a successful gambler is.  Is it a gambler that beats the odds and wins money once?  Is it someone who can beat the odds every day and earn a living gambling?  Maybe it's someone who gambles as a hobby and has a really fun time losing all their money while playing at a slot machine?  Personally, I view gambling as entertainment, so I find it a little strange that you could be unsuccessful gambling.  That's sort of like having a bad time shooting hoops or at the driving range.
2817  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Number of homeless people in Los Angeles County surges to more than 75,000 on: July 08, 2023, 08:55:37 PM
Aside from LA, although I'm not from the USA. I've seen also a video about the drug problem in Philadelphia wherein it's like in every place there. They're also homeless people that have overdosed on drugs and they're everywhere based on that video that I've watched.

The homeless problem has gotten so much worse since the pandemic. It’s gotten close to home no matter where you live. They’re being provided with free food and encouraged to stay in cities on sidewalks. I’m really not even sure how this problem can be solved. The government seems to be happy with the current situation.
I thought that this problem is only existing in countries like ours in the third world. And while our government is providing housing projects on these people, they don't like it due to the place where they'll be relocated. The result, they go back to the side walks and they sell the house even if it's not allowed.

It isn't just in a few cities anymore.  That's what is so crazy.  Even in Phoenix which is 120 degrees in the summer, there are homeless camps where people are being fed and given needles under the guise of helping them.  Most of the videos I've seen on YouTube interviewing people show that they don't even want to leave.  They enjoy their 3 free meals, good drugs, clean needles, and lawless environment.  I think we're seeing the beginning of society splintering into haves and have nots in a way that will shock people in the coming years when the true depths of the situation are common knowledge.

Today: 30 year mortgage 7.7%, refinance 8.08%
Who's able to buy apart from cash buyers?

Still, prices do not show much of a decline (yet).
https://www.investopedia.com/mortgage-rates-jump-to-20-year-high-7557902
It still baffles me that people can afford to keep their houses with everything that's going on.. Either prices have to decline or things will go belly up very soon.

People with 2.75-4% mortgages are hanging on due to relatively low monthlies, unless their tax bill skyrocketed.

Maybe you did not exactly answer your own question, in regards to "when will the bottom fall out?" if that might be a fair characterization of your question - but aren't the best times to sell homes in the summer, so the end of this selling season comes in August/September, so might it not be fair to consider that a failure of the housing market (such as a bottom falling out) would be more likely to come after August/September rather than during the peak part of the yearly selling cycle?

Real estate fireworks in September or so?  Perhaps by August or September, individual owners are starting to realize that their houses are not moving, so they start to get desperate, in the event that they do not want to get stuck in their property for one more year.. so maybe the bottom starts to fall out in August rather than September or later?

I'm just throwing out random ideas.  I don't really claim to know much of anything.

See we can agree on a few things. Grin

Say we jump 25 and 25 total of 50 points. Will that crash housing? maybe maybe not.

But if we do 25 points in July and  25 points in Sept then drop 50 points in nov maybe housing starts to boom.

Sooner or later they will pivot. Its fun watching .

One thing I've learned after a few decades of real estate investing is that the housing market moves extremely slow.  It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.  We all see rates are too high and houses are unaffordable.  We all see the middle class being squeezed with inflation.  We're all aware that houses shot up in price mainly because banks were buying them like crazy in anticipation of high inflation.  The only thing keeping people in their houses right now is that inflation coupled with investment has buoyed housing prices.  I personally think without high inflation keeping prices high, we would be seeing a 2008 style crash.  As it is, we'll likely see a correction but stubborn inflation will limit it, and if the fed keeps rates high and jobs numbers start to turn south, things could get bad and remain that way for a couple years.
2819  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin experience a more price increase during the halving? on: July 08, 2023, 08:47:10 PM
Individuals familiar with Bitcoin widely believe that its price will increase significantly during halving events. This collective assumption drives the upward momentum of Bitcoin. People fear missing out on the potential uptrend and therefore contribute to the price increase by continuously buying Bitcoin. Consequently, the positive sentiment surrounding Bitcoin halving plays a crucial role in fueling its upward movement. Moreover, if positive news coincides with the halving period, it can further intensify the price surge, resulting in a substantial increase in Bitcoin's value.
Belief originated simply because of what happened before but in fact, there's no assurance of things. We cannot be certain that the price would increase once halving occurs. One instance is with ETH Fork. Well, two are different things but these two are comparable for having large network. But thing here is that, things may still go the other way around, as expected. This is simply because of nature of market price volatility. But since there is a dominant belief that its price would increase, then the tendency for such thing to happen would be higher. But for sure it won't be a date near halving; either late or early.

As they say, history may not repeat, but it sure does rhyme.  As I've stated several times before...  I think we're going to see the exact same thing that we've seen in multiple previous cycles now.  Traders will run up the price to the halving in anticipation of the event, then we will see a "buy the rumor, sell the news" situation where traders take profits sending the price downward immediately after the halving.  Then once a new bottom is found the market rallies like hell for 18 months with a blow off top.  Sure, things like FTX fraud could alter that course a little, but the destination from here will look the same.
2820  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: July 08, 2023, 08:43:34 PM
It was pretty clear that this was going to happen if you'd been watching Wemby play up until now.  He was constantly dominated when faced with a big body.  He is nowhere near NBA ready.  Given his size and young age, the Spurs would probably be smart to not let him play for a couple years as he sits in the weight room strengthening his legs.  That's the only way he's going to make an impact in the NBA.  I actually think Bol Bol is a better player.  There was WAY too much hype around him and I don't think this is a one game fluke.
