2841  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Announcing the Pirate Hijack Hack of TRC. Terracoin is fired. on: April 09, 2013, 10:11:31 PM
It's terracoin dev. If it were me I would just directly use ppcoin's simpler calculation, which only look at the last two blocks. But I did recommend freicoin and other new altcoins to adopt ppcoin's adjustment algorithm before, although people barely listen.

Strange, I would have thought they would use something that is proven to work well rather than try to 're-invent the wheel'. Maybe it's because the difficulty adjustment of Terracoin is it's unique feature, so they don't want that to be a copy of a competing coin (not coin bashing, just trying to think why they made this decision).
2842  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [TRC] Terracoin going crazy! on: April 09, 2013, 10:05:47 PM

Correction. The Terracoin dev hopes his 3rd attempt to get it right solves the problem.
2843  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Announcing the Pirate Hijack Hack of TRC. Terracoin is fired. on: April 09, 2013, 06:31:44 PM
I have briefly spoken with sunny king, and it is possible that he knows how to fix terracoin.  so when terracoin raises from the ashes, it will be Trollcoin.  if you want to continue thinking its terracoin fine.  but that weakass website is getting no points.

I don't think revolting against the dev is gonna help much in the situation. Meanwhile the new proposed terracoin patch under testing works close enough to ppcoin's exponential moving adjustment, so I think it could fix most of terracoin's trouble.

May I ask, are you behind this patch or is it the work of the Terracoin dev?
2844  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: BTC at $220, altcoins crashing. Where are your AltGods now? on: April 09, 2013, 05:43:31 PM
My altcoins earned me enough to buy some mining hardware.

These kinds of discussions don't make any sense to me.  Why do you care so passionately about the choices other people make in life?  Until yesterday, I never bought a Litecoin in my life, but I never felt the need to trash Litecoin users.

Disregard OP. Obvious troll is obvious. He's trash talking altcoins in the altcoin forum. That's like signing up to a WWF forum to say it's all fake.
2845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Announcing the Pirate Hijack Hack of TRC. Terracoin is fired. on: April 09, 2013, 05:29:19 PM
I don't blame spacegoat. I would be mad if most my funds were in TRC. At least you're trying something OP.

and the way that you dismiss my concerns, and your general mannerism of being dismissive to any doubters of terracoin makes me not trust you.  I relayed information that you broadcasted, and received a message saying, "bro, you said it was all going to be fine, that terracoin was well, so I bought in, and I looked away and its gone down 20%"

I'm done resonating with you for now rabbit.  and you cannot dismiss the incoming pirate take over.  you can join it, but you cannot dismiss it.

Obviously whiterabbit is extremely biased in favour of TRC, if you want any opinion on TRC he should be the last person you speak to because whatever the situation is he will tell you it's a good buy. If the network remained down for the next 2 months whiterabbit still tell you it's a good buy.

Funny thing is I was warning about ASICs in my posts before this happened and no-one listened.  Undecided

Btw no offence to you whiterabbit, I have no beef with you. Just saying to you spacegoat everyone has their favourite coin/s and their own agenda which they like to push down the throats of others and wrap it up as good healthy factual advice.
2846  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bytecoin Rich List on: April 08, 2013, 11:12:55 PM
There's always a few bastards at the top with all the coins. lol
2847  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTE] Anon136 now offering orderbook + escrow service for Bytecoin on: April 08, 2013, 08:09:02 PM
Please remove me from the offers too. Best regards.
2848  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Work VS. Proof of Stake (Bitcoin - PPCoin) on: April 08, 2013, 07:18:11 PM
NVC also utilises PoS as well.

I know nothing about NVC... It uses everything?
many ppl rag on it, call it a scamcoin etc.... and the price has been falling. What gives?

Pre-mined and they lied about it. Gave it an awful reputation. Plus I believe they launched the coin in some Russian forum and users here didn't find out about until later (I may be wrong on that one).

Plus Scrypt is more energy intensive that SHA, which kind of defeats half the point of PPCoin (being energy efficient as possible).

Tried to sign up, but it timed out and didn't send the email. Tried a second time and it said username already taken.
2850  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC - and we're back on: April 08, 2013, 04:57:55 PM
And when it becomes profitable enough that a greedy ASIC miner jumps on back on board, then what?
2851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: PPCoin is the only ALTcoin on: April 07, 2013, 10:30:27 PM
Right now the easiest exploit is probably to hack one of the nodes doing the checkpointing and steal the private keys for signing the checkpoints. Then pick a target merchant and feed them checkpoints for a faulty chain at a rate faster than the main network. Then trade PPC and move BTC off the exchange. The merchant gets stuck on a wrong chain and will (likely) stay there due to the checkpointing policy. Meanwhile, you introduce a transaction into the main network which moves the PPC you used for the merchant to another address.
Haven't studied that attack vector in detail, but it should work, theoretically. In fact, if Sunny would be one of the bad guys, he could probably exploit that himself and frame others or hide behind TOR. However, given what we've seen of Sunny so far, I doubt he would go so far. Anyway - just making the point that the network is centralized.

This attack has been considered before ppcoin's initial release so the checkpoint has built-in confliction detection. Nodes would not accept conflicting checkpoints and would set a warning message. I think Balthazar last week misoperated the checkpoint master in novacoin so the warning was triggered on novacoin users. So this mechanism is working as designed.

Given the current market acceptance of ppcoin, it's likely the central checkpointing could be phased out to be advisory later this year.

Excellent stuff.  Smiley
2852  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BTE] Anon136 now offering orderbook + escrow service for Bytecoin on: April 07, 2013, 07:51:34 PM
Buying 5000 BTE.

Rate of 0.2 BTC per 1000 BTE.

Thanks.
2853  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: current LITEcoin crash : graphics ! on: April 07, 2013, 07:02:20 PM

Exactly. It's daft comparing Litecoin to another currency which is experiencing wild growth.
2854  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate Currencies On Exchanges. on: April 07, 2013, 05:59:48 PM
I would rather BTE went on an exchange than BBQ.
2855  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MC2: A democratic cryptocurrency based on a hybrid PoW/PoS system on: April 07, 2013, 05:29:53 PM
Haha I first thought the MC2 stood for mc^2 as in e=mc^2, Einstein's energy equation. So it would be 'Energy' coin  Wink
2856  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Dead or Dying ? on: April 07, 2013, 03:55:49 PM
EDIT: Don't be so dramatic. No one has their grandmother hooked up to a TRC life support machine. Things break, we fix them, life goes on. This is an experiment.

It's kind of important a currency system doesn't break.  What if this gets patched and then it rears it's ugly head again later down the line when the network is even bigger. I ask this because we're now on the third mandatory patch to do with difficulty adjustments in the last month.

In it's present form TRC simply isn't suitable for use by vendors.
2857  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: MC2: A democratic cryptocurrency based on a hybrid PoW/PoS system on: April 07, 2013, 03:38:42 PM

Depends if I can find people to help develop it.  I'm heavily employed so the implementation of everything in here will basically be impossible in the next few months (this is my weekend/late night hobby).

Edit: I can assure you that a non-botched release will happen when it does, though.  I'll create the genesis block string and make binaries of the miner and qt wallet before release on an offline computer, then upload here encrypted with AES256 and a very long, strong password.  Then after a few weeks has past and it's been well distributed, the password will be revealed and everyone can begin mining at the same time.

That would be the fairest launch of a coin ever. Nice one.

Edit: reading more about it, this is a v nice coin. Hope it comes out sooner rather than later.
2858  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Dead or Dying ? on: April 07, 2013, 02:56:56 PM

Methinks you just want cheap TRC.  The terracoin network would continuously have 6% of the bitcoin network throughput if the price were 0.03 BTC/TRC.  Basically, the price needs to double.

The coin infrastructure is broken and you think the price will double in light of that news.  Roll Eyes

2859  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Dead or Dying ? on: April 07, 2013, 01:51:44 PM
You must be joking...There are less buy orders than NVC. -_- There really is no real demand for it and it's all just speculation, and a few dudes buying a handful hoping to ride the wave. At this point it's just turning in to Gold, or some other icon of wealth that rarely gets traded.

This.

The market depth is shallow as a puddle. If a small number of people decide to get out while they can after the recent bad news the price will drop like a rock.

i bet everything is still secure, I'll send you Gold for your TRC today pm me

Not many vendors are going to accept a currency whose network dies for hours under moderate stress loads.

2860  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Terracoin Dead or Dying ? on: April 07, 2013, 12:39:56 PM
Terracoin is a bubble that is going to burst fast if this keeps up much longer. This is the second time Terracoins have died in the last 2 days.

So we have a coin that offers no advantages over Bitcoin or Litecoin and it also keeps crashing due to the ASIC miners.  Undecided

People are just buying these Terracoins based on hype and hoping it will be the next Litecoin. The only reason it's so high in price is hype and short supply, the latter of which isn't going to last much longer with these ASICs caning the system.
