301  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency - 0.8.8.6 on: February 23, 2015, 03:42:42 PM
If y'all are up in arms about the 22 minute version, you woulda loved the 45 minute take it came from!

and my response to the "all the hooey over non development stuff" - it woulda been a 2 hour podcast if fluffy tried to explain everything thats happened. In our first take last week (that was ultimately bagged because we were using push to talk and not using headphones so it squeeled everytime I tried to say "hey what the hell are you talking about" so the chemistry was as flat as a 3 day can of soda), we talked about stuff that wasn't talked about in this take. I specifically remember database stuff.

And its going to happen again - "tune in next week" kinda thing here.

And thanks for the cliffsnotes / summaries. I'll include them in the digest.

Gotta work on that tonight.

and yeah, jwinterm, I'm not an avid podcast listener myself (i tried it for a while, I think it was the content - full of too many negative know-it-alls, but then again I was listening to science podcasts), but I agree with fluffypony that this missive mechanism is more efficient. I mean, do we really want people that can actually review code spending their time making pretty missive documents?

I don't. Which is why I stepped up with the digests. And that evolved to podcasts.

Eventually, something I think we will implement for these podcats (and im gonna call em podcats, because its the best kind of cat, and my fingers just want to type that so yeah) is a "hey what do you want ginger pony to talk about" voting thread (even though I haven't presented this idea to The Fluff). But for now, there is a lot of stuff that is on the docket.

okay, back to real work, that pays me dollars, so I can buy moneroj.

Please keep up with the monero podcast. Its great for many reasons. More friendly, more interesting, more things being addressed. I understand that some people will prefer it written. But that is easy, i am sure someone will be able to write a few lines summary each time. Then if someone is interested after reading the summary he can always listen to the podcast. This way we have both a nice podcast and a nice summary.

To the community:

Lets tweet about the new missive, the new official website and those nice infographics! If you are bored writing your own just tweet those i wrote:

Guys, excellent missive and excellent website! Well done!

I liked very much the podcast style!
I also liked that you asked from the community to help in tasks. This should be continued in the missives. Asking about things that need to be done.
Finally its nice to see explaining crypto stuff and how actually things works with monero, problems and solutions.

I should continue checking the new website Cheesy

P.S. Fluffy, i make a complaint about the website and 1 week afterwards that a beautiful website pops out?  <3

Isis relate to Muslims like Nazis to Conservatives or Stalinists to Leftists.

It's simply a bunch of fanatics. Unfortunatlely, every political ideology (and yes, Islamism is more a political than religious movement) seems to breed their own extremists.

Those actually seems that got breed by a country attacking another country with fake allegations about weapons of mass destruction and removing the dangerous 'dictator' while installing an inefficient and corrupt puppet goverment controlled by war criminals, hypocrites and fascists.
304  Local / Ελληνικά (Greek) / Re: Can a Bitcoin-style virtual currency solve the Greek financial crisis? on: February 23, 2015, 03:51:30 AM

Δεν αναφέρομαι στην δική του ιδέα. Κάνω κριτική σε αυτό που λένε πολλοί, ότι μια χώρα πρέπει να χρησιμοποιήσει το bitcoin. Διαφωνώ. Αυτό θα βοηθήσει μόνο εμάς που το ξέρουμε ήδη. Γιατί πολύ απλά να μην χρησιμοποιήσει ένα νέο fork στην τελική;
305  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Science makes gold on: February 23, 2015, 01:53:35 AM
To create gold you need to fuse or divide atoms both need nuclear reactions. The process of using bacteria cannot create gold but only to purify it.

ure wrong, anything that can be created in nature can be lab recreated, im not saying there is some gold version of Walter White, but even tho its not doable now, it surely will be in the future.
And when it comes to gold investments, the only this people think is investing in the future, and with this you just have another proof that progress is being made, so once again; its only a matter of time until they become able to produce it in lab.

cheers

Your post is stupid and you should be ashamed about that.

It is being done in the lab already.  Not in the future. And not in an economically viable way. Nuclear reactors is a lab too you know... But you dont even need them...

Bacteria cant create and wont create gold no matter what. The will maybe purify gold more efficient and therefore make extraction more economically viable.

Oh, and not everything can be lab created. Sorry. You are just speculating about the future.

If price rise brings attention and more adoption it is good. What we need is more adoption. I also think that some nice bounties for services and development would be better.

We still dont have a good open source gpu miner, right?
307  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Science makes gold on: February 22, 2015, 03:02:40 AM
The article merely describes bacteria that can purify gold to almost 100% purity. It doesnt describe about making gold out of thin air...

Still it is something great and with big potential as every other biotech discovery.

If you static build a cpu miner for linux then i will mine this shit for a day or two...

You can compile from the source on github?

Then i wouldnt ask, would i? Compiling is not an option unfortunately.

314  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GAP] Gapcoin - Prime Gap Search - New Math Algo - CPU / GPU - Zero Premine on: February 20, 2015, 09:48:43 PM
i have problems with gapcoind. If i stop it, then everytime i start it again it looks like it is running but does nothing. I cant connect to rpc server. To fix that i have to delete blocks folder from .gapcoin and then redownload whole blockchain which actually takes too much time. Many hours...

Any ideas? Also j0nn9 maybe you could host the blockchain so that we can download most of it? Finally, are you currently working on anything?

What is with this shit coin. Blockchain is now 22 hour´s beeing downloading and i have 167 day´s to sync???

I will buy and away with my coins from an exchance to my wallet.

my wallet is monero client.net

Have you tried to sync bitcoin to see how long it takes? Or you are just familiar with 10days coins with zero transactions? Oh and if you want a real untraceable currency then unfortunately you have to deal with a bigger blockchain.

Btw in the OP there is a copy of blockchain to download usually kinda updated. You can always use this too: https://mymonero.com/#/

I have download this shit, but its very very slow, by darkcoin ists realy realy faster.

I will 5k Fiat change to xmr, but its so slow.

IS mymonero.com 100% safe?  Thy safest Place is my extra Notebook for coins, only online to buy or sell

By monero, darkcoin ists realy realy not untraceable.

mymonero.com is safe. Certainly not as safe as having your own wallet.

What exactly dont you understand when i say a simple fork of bitcoin? How come they would be able to print more of it?

I remind you that we discuss about whats the point of a country using Bitcoin instead of creating a new fork of Bitcoin.

In the best case scenario that a country wanted to use a cryptocurrency why wouldnt they create their own coin instead of using Bitcoin?

because network effect #security #decentralization #legitimacy

Are you implying that bitcoin is actually decentralized?

nah, but still it'll be more decentralized than any crappy gov token, whether digital or not.

And i think that if a country creates a nice fork of bitcoin it would pretty fast acquire a big network.

who would mine the fork, ensuring blockchain security? goverments? XD

i think it aint happening. ever. bitcoin is just different. so political yet apolitical.

Why would a fork of bitcoin adopted by a country would be less decentralized than bitcoin? And why do you call it crappy gov token? It would be just a fork of bitcoin and accepted everywhere and for everything in that country. As a matter of fact, given the number of people now knowing about cryptos, it would be 10 times more decentralized than bitcoin.

The reality is that a government has to control her economy. Because if she cant she risks being controlled by others. So no goverment would/should ever risk to use a decentralized currency. But if they did adopt a new fork of bitcoin it would be more decentralized and easily more adopted.

I found this

There are speculations about CryptoNote being developed under the guidance of NSA. Following facts are mentioned as indicating a possible connections between NSA and CryptoNote development team:[76]

-Keccak hash has been chosen as a proof-of-work function in CryptoNote several months before it has been announced as SHA-3 hash function competition winner.

- NSA report about electronic cash outlines the necessity of using blind signatures in order to achieve anonymity.

- Using non-deterministic random in CryptoNote signatures might be a backdoor intentionally left by NSA in reference implementation.

- Being ASIC-resistant, CryptoNote-based currencies can be easily manipulated by NSA possessing big computational resources.

Source: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CryptoNote#Blockchain_bloat_and_ring_signature_size

The source for this is http://www.cryptobang.com/ which was never a serious crypto news site neither seems to be online now. Therefore much credibility so wow.

But, if that is the case, then this is seriously the coin you need to invest! If you believe that it is backed by NSA then a few millions of investment must be under way...
