Snip
They could atleast used Mine to make it more believable.
Opps! Bitcoin just fell below 64,500. 24H rise at 0.13%
In the grand scheme of things it means nothing.
Monday will show you why it's just an avenue for Bitcoin to try the $70K mark again.

For folks who want to just run medium mode or want to see if the stand alone unit (no PSU) comes sooner, I think I found a pretty cool product for only $34. It's rated 28V/5A and comes with 2 USB-C ports (my thinking was running two nanos from this)!

***----> Actually now that I'm thinking about it, 140W rating though not going to be enough. I think conservatively if you are running medium mode, you should plan for at least 90-100W allocation per unit. Maybe someone can chime in and confirm this. If I can find one of these with a higher rating, I'll update.

https://www.amazon.com/Adapter-Charger-3-Port-Compatible-Laptop/dp/B0CM69NR1N/ref=sr_1_1?

yeah it is gan based they all seem to run hot.

They dropped the ball a bit on psu.

I like the unit but they should have done two speeds.

60 and 90 watts.  And they could have done a better psu.

https://www.amazon.com/ORIGINAL-GENUINE-240-Watt-ADAPTER-CHARGER/dp/B07PPQYX3C/ref=asc_df_B07PPQYX3C?

240 watts 19.5 volts 12.1 amps would have been the proper one if you want to do the high speed.
304  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: My single Phase 235 volt T21 on: April 21, 2024, 10:00:04 PM
Happy to see folks trying to get T21 to work on single phase. We've done this on a couple of test rigs and can't really tell a performance/efficiency difference between T21 and S21.
Yet the T21 is considerably cheaper, and comes with a Bigger PSU.
One issue I've encountered is that after you change the PSU and power bars, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to cover the power bars etc, since T21 does not come with a PSU cover piece.

yeah and the s19xp psu I used the cover does not quite fit.

I have three of these t21s i can get them to do 205th at 17.5 watts in a cold room.

i am going to experiment with the alpha 7000 watt liquid cooled psu. in theory the t21 can clock to 231 th with the correct psu.

306  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why has bitcoin prices not increased just after halving ? on: April 21, 2024, 09:39:43 PM
Bitcoin mining fees has increased considerably today after halving but there are no effect on bitcoin prices. I suggested some friends to invest before and they are blaming me for the suggestion. I told them to wait for final effect as it can take some days for effect on prices but they are impatient.

The 2016 ½ ing was around may or maybe july

the peak was dec 2017 over 15 months later.

the 2020 ½ ing was around may or july 2020 the peak or peaks hit in april 2021 and nov 2021 over or close to a year later.

so we have a long wait to see the ath.
307  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Runes will be worthless. Don't waste your precious BTC on huge fees. on: April 21, 2024, 09:29:14 PM
You need to stop underestimating the amount people can spend to create shit, the one people can spend to buy shit and how many want to get rich with shit.
Eventually some kind of "learning effect" will set in. For example, the ICO market is already much less hyped than it was in 2018. The NFT market is in problems since 2022, only having re-surged temporarily in 2023 due to Ordinals, but on Ethereum its status seems quite bleak. The memecoin market is also bearish, even looking at longer timeframes. Shiba Inu for example had a pump, but its high of slightly less than $0.00004 was far away from SHIB's ATH in 2022 ($0.00008), and now it's already closer to 0.00002, having lost 40%. Even Doge, which has some more "intrinsic" value because it's running on its own blockchain, and even has its own Ordinals clone (sort of, as it uses an older technology), hasn't reached even half of its ATH in 2021.

So in general I think these hypes will be smaller in each wave. It's likely that some of the halving day rune collectors will make a profit, but I'm almost sure most won't. I admit that the relative persistence of the BRC-20 hype during most of 2023 surprised me, I believed it to be shorter. But there is a lot of blood in the streets (ORDI, the "most established" of the BRC-20's, lost 50% of its ATH already), and each of these waves will see more disappointed bagholders. Eventually, the market will collapse, not to 0 but to the same low-level state the Ethereum ICO market is now.

In general I think also that even compared to most "normal" altcoins the Rune/BRC-20 value proposition is very thin. There is often not even a website, not even some technobabble to create illusions Smiley

well scrypt with doge/ltc has a robust mining community.

Mining it with a bitmain L7 from jan 2021 to apr 2024 has had solid profits.

plus doge and ltc can do cheap sends of smaller wealth.
most of runes are not very artistic. they may not have much value just loyal followers.
308  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: S19 HW errors on: April 21, 2024, 07:17:30 PM
I am constantly experiencing HW errors on the Antminer S19 unit, even with adequate cooling and setup. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, what steps have you taken to resolve these errors?

are you getting 10000 hw and almost no accepted shares?

that is an issue.

the little bit of info you gave is pretty much worthless.

if the gear ran days those errors are acceptable.

if the gear ran 1 or 2 minutes it sometimes takes time to settle and not keep tossing errors.

you cut out so much info I feel

 a) you are paranoid and don’t know what you are doing
 b) you know what you are doing and are trolling.
309  Economy / Economics / Re: Young people are less likely to accept traditional employments in this era! on: April 21, 2024, 04:50:17 PM
Even though technology looks promising than other sectors, you need to know if we're currently suffering tech winter.

I don't believe most Gen Z are freelancers than working on sites, even the jobs can be done from away, but most of companies will ask them to work on sites because they don't want the market value of their buildings loss due to low traffic.

So if there is a way to create balance and bring more young people to have interest in the traditional workforce what would you think of?
Erase seniority! both Boomers and Millennials make Gen Z has no place to get promoted or they receive the same salary but bear more responsibility.

yeah good luck with that maybe they will do it in 20 years but oh you will be the one losing seniority.

do your self a favor find the old movie “ wild in the streets “ watch it and realize how old your idea is.

Thought of one other question for DaveF, philipma1957, or anyone in possession of these Nanos.

Sound/noise wise, how would you say the Nano 3s compare to say the Nvidia 3090s or a high end GPU. Much louder or about the same? Thanks.

high pitched mosquito whine on high speed.

i ran it under my bed with the light off and the high speed noise was annoying. rpm at high is 4200 there is a whine.

it is perfectly fine on medium speed. rpm at medium is 2700 no issue.

Thanks for the update! No pressure but feel free to let us know the micro quantity of a BTC you pull in a 24 hour period.
I think the best value proposition longer term path is medium mode. There was even a video of someone who tried using a high end Apple USB-C that was capped at medium mode.

Are you by chance able to comment at all on this; in the mining management setup process for this Nano 3, is it easy/doable to just paste in your NiceHash SHA256 URL into that first field in the Nano 3, "Pool Address 1" ? Cheers

Before the 1/2ing yesterday I was pulling in ~600 sats a day.

And yes you can set any pool you like.

I had the one I sold to @philipma1957 pointed at a couple of others here and there while I was testing things out.

-Dave

Appreciate the info sharing. Thank you as it's very helpful. I'm getting a bunch of these as my theory is BTC prices going much higher in the future.

Do you by chance have a meter that you really like which tracks your total kw usage? It's been a few years since I tore down my GPU rigs and sold everything but from my recollection, I think I had a kw meter directly plugged in first to my 30 AMP outlet adapter and from there going into this, I plugged in a 30A 30 outlet power rack mount, so I was able to get an aggregate kw output number. But now I'm not so sure if this is exactly what I actually did.  Cheers.

I have a link for a good 30amp 120-240volt meter. give me a minute

I hooked up my nano 3 this one came from davef I am using the 165watt dell psu

I set it to high and it reads 127 watts on the software screen.

I will slap in a kill-watt-meter

also I have a infrared thermometer lets see if the 165watt dell psu gets to a stupid temp.

gets to 121 temp better than 140 that the others get to but stupid hot

i read 125-127 watts for full speed on the software screen. the kwatt meter reads 141.

So 141 watts and 4.15 th is just over 31 watts a th.

backed it off to middle sitting.

85-88 watts on avalon screen
98 watts on kill-a-watt
3.05th
psu case is 129 f

like the miner.
don’t like that you must use an app rather just log in. the log in does not have speed control
so you will always use both the login and the app. note could be missing a way to use pc to change speeds.

I don’t like a lack of eth cable

but running it at middle speed does seem sweet.

Finally

"Grayscale Reveals 0.15% Fees For Its Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF"

https://www.coindesk.com/business/2024/04/20/grayscale-reveals-015-fees-for-its-bitcoin-mini-trust-etf/

Lol going from 1,5% fee to 0,15% on a mini

and
Quote
The filing also provides an illustrative example of the amount of Bitcoin (BTC) Grayscale will contribute to the mini fund: 63,204 bitcoin, or 10% of existing assets in GBTC, as per the filing.

Also lol, GBTC currently holds about BTC304k so 63.204 would represent 20% of existing assets. So for GBTC holders 80% @ 1,5%fee, and 20% @ 0,15%fee would still put you at 1,23% overall

Edit: Or to look at it from another angle, they would still have BTC241k (BTC304k - BTC63k) waiting to be liquidated...

Sorry, but it is irrelevant as you don't know the future trajectory of mini.
Example: it could trade at a premium and since GBTC trades with no discount, you still come out ahead. For example, ibit trades between 0.84% discount and 0.98% premium. Same for FBTC.
That's almost 2% range. I know...the snickering must continue regardless of facts, lol.
However, ask yourself: how relevant is this when we go up/down 5% a day?

etf’s seem to have caused a lot of volatility.

So billions vs millions not much of an issue.
316  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: AVALON 1166 PRO 72 TH ERROR on: April 20, 2024, 05:17:19 PM
Usually, this is a PSU issue but the system status shows only 2 hashboard there might issue in one of your hashboard that cause all hashboard not to work properly.

I suggest try to clean the whole hashboard and the busbar make sure to use sandpaper to clean rust on the busbar and use isopropyl alcohol to clean the hashboard terminals replug them all and test it again lets see if there are any changes after this on the logs.

i clean three hashboard ,  hasboard one is fail  ? electronic components are burned

my miner btc avalon can job with only two hasboards?

yeah try fully pulling the dead board. it sounds shorted.

hopefully running the dead shorted board did not kill off the new psu.

if you did not fry the new psu you will get the unit to work with two hash boards.

Can repair this hash board?

first see if it runs with two hash boards it should.

if it runs with two hashboards

zeus repairs let me find the link.

318  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 20, 2024, 03:00:17 PM

and if you are in USA zelle is fine up to $1000 usd.

frankly sending btc on the main chain for any thing under 1000 is dumb..

LN may get better eventually, but btc is much more a buy and hodl store of wealth than anyother thing.

I use zelle for nocoiner people
I use doge and ltc for small sends as it is easier than LN

I use main chain for large purchases of mining gear.

Spend $, hoard BTC. It's the best way.

I'm surely fine with that, but what the fee/tx RUNE (iirc) madness does (aside from being a stupid game), is:

1. slowing adoption (even if companies offer LN, when they regularly sync to the main chain, the fees are more of a loss)
2. degrading performance (from a use-case-of view, not a nonsense-case-like-RUNE-of view)
3. bring bad news about BTC, which is not always bad, as we know, but makes new investors overthink their planned investments.

Look at it like that: Cars are made for bringing you from A to B in a convenient, fast and personal way. Now, someone propagates a stupid trend (remember one or the other challenge hype)to attach your household waste to random cars, to get it away. Would you feel good if your and every other's car is driving around with litter bags tied to their back several times a day? You'd have to get rid of the stuff at your own cost, effort and time.
I would be annoyed as fuck, honestly. But this is just what is happening, Gen-Z-ers are encouraged to tie their waste to Bitcoin blocks by someone exploiting that stupid Ordinals concept, just because it hasn't got any other valuable use.
This is what happens if developers don't overthink the consequences of their solutions. You know the old saying "the solution became the problem"? (or something like that)

I may sound angry, but i am just feeling a bit surprised, but not in a positive way.
Opportunism, like using shitcoins, including fiat money, seems to help to get by, but who really wants that compromise?
Not me, for sure  Grin

Happy halving day !

I thought I could stay awake for it but there was no way, I'm getting old. I see it happened at about 4am local time.

These last days many articles were written, Bitcoin got talked about on radio etc. (well, the business radio I'm listening to already has a crypto program so not a big difference), and I heard several times about miners being concerned, some quitting etc.

I don't understand how the situation is now worse for them than a few months ago when they earned twice the BTC, but its fiat price was half what it is now. Can someone explain ?

Hellow, fellow  Cheesy
I didn't stay awake, either...

The miners who did not take periodic halving effects into account in their business calculations (some won't even have had a clear vision of how long they plan to profitably run this), they may well be concerned in the face of rising hashing difficulty. Then there was the rise of energy prices, inflation and so on, which set back some newer mining companies in their profits to extend their business. It's always those unforseen events (black swans) that cause a lot of unfavorable side-effects. If you don't think about such, you remain with "the pants pulled down" in such situations (while all the others are able to run away)  Cheesy

Aaand, you know the media. They put up their (horror) stories, and then they are looking for ways to sell them to the public. What's really going on behind the media narratives might be very different.

But essentially once btc cracks 💯 k cheapest fee of 1 sat ends up with a small transaction fee of 16 cents

which compared to handing a dunkin donuts clerk a few bucks is not cost effective.

part of the high fees is btc is 64k and a sat is not cheap anymore.

so if btc goes to 640k  all fees are at least one dollar which is okay for a $10,000 worth of btc to bitmain but not okay for buying a two dollar coffee.

ltc and doge are solid pow and fill in for small purchases pretty much perfectly.
319  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Apr 2024] Fees are HIGH, wait for opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: April 20, 2024, 02:38:08 PM
That's it. I declare Bitcoin broken at the moment Sad
Now this a statement that surprised me!
How would you call it if normal people can't use Bitcoin as peer to peer electronic cash?

People can use it, blocks are mined, and transactions are confirmed, it's just that it's not cheap and the ones paying more are favored.
Ordinals or no ordinals the same would have happened if you would have had 100 million trying to use it daily.
Demand and offer!

So, this was the record for the day?
Nope. The record of the day is easily this: https://mempool.space/tx/2bb85f4b004be6da54f766c17c1e855187327112c231ef2ff35ebad0ea67c69e. 3.6 million satoshis per vbyte. This person paid more than 6.732 bitcoin in transaction fee. It's the top transaction of the halving block. I guess you can call it the rarest Ordinal, or whatever they're called.  Tongue

Loll, I didn't realize there is an extra, I thought it was 3,600 not 3,600,000.
This poor guy, despite spending $510,768 he didn't had the most expensive tx in sat/vb.
Imagine his disappointment.

Its not broken but main chain sends are too expensive for small amounts .

clogged mempool and btc price at 64k.

if btc was 100k the smallest 1 sat send = 16 cent an 10 sat send = 1.60 at this point it is too expensive for small main chain sends.

if an when btc = 500k the smallest 1 sat sent = 80 cents and a  10 sat send = $8.00   so sending under $100 in btc on the main chain would be stupid.

USA has Zelle for no coiners you can easily send up to $1000 for free in under 5 minutes,  Bank to Bank with a linked phone number.

IN THE USA Zelle crushes btc for a small under 1 k send see below. sends on the 18th and 19th both under 5 minutes and free.
