3181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why switching to mBTC won't increase Bitcoin price. on: December 22, 2013, 08:35:47 PM
i don't know if it was to drive up the price, but i didn't think it would do so.. as others have said here, it was to make the appearance of 1 unit of bitcoin to seem closer to what $1 is. paying 5 mBTC for your meal is much easier to understand than .05 mBTC. whole units are easier to understand than fractional ones.
3182  Other / Off-topic / Re: Satoshi on Reddit??? on: December 22, 2013, 08:23:20 PM
only a few gullibles that fell for it, or they just played along. anyone who believes it is him or could be him is just deranged.
3183  Other / Off-topic / Re: Several Silk Road moderators arrested by FBI on: December 22, 2013, 07:55:56 PM
scammers making a business seem legitimate so that more and more people would join. once they reach what they believe their peak is, they run off with the money.

apparently it's supposed to mean LE or a group of people trying to trap you, but not necessarily a scam.
3184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do we know that Bitcoin won't be regulated? on: December 22, 2013, 07:45:18 PM
Is it possible that Bitcoin will be regulated? And if it will be, then how would we know Huh I have heard stories, speculating that if someone holds 51% of the total amount of BTC they will have kind of a monopoly position and can make or break the coin alltogether. Is this true?

It is nearly impossible for anyone to "hold" 51% of all bitcoins and if they did it would mean little.  It would cost 100s of trillions of dollars to buy 51%.

What you may have been referring to is a 51% attack:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Weaknesses#Attacker_has_a_lot_of_computing_power

the market cap is currently around 10 billion.. how would it cost hundreds of trilions to buy up 51% of the coins?

No it is not possible that bitcoin will be regulated and if it was, there would be no way to know about it. It is like in China right now.

strongly disagree. look at what china has done to BTC, it's regualted them. governments can do as they please. maybe they can't completely stop BTC, but they can slow it down and ruin the price/liquidity of BTC.
3185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Has it gotten better for you? on: December 22, 2013, 07:43:34 PM
How you view BTC that is? When it takes big dumps and crashes, I don't really panic anymore. I also don't think to myself "if i had only put in $5,000 into it a few years ago, I'd have enough to retire now" anymore. A month ago, when all this hysteria hit, that was all I could think.
3186  Other / Off-topic / Re: Several Silk Road moderators arrested by FBI on: December 22, 2013, 07:41:37 PM
i guess the definition of honeypot is different from what i thought it was.
3187  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Does it strike a cord? on: December 22, 2013, 09:39:46 AM
i'd like to think that 2014 and beyond will be kind to bitcoins, but i think using the internet for comparison doesn't quite work so well. the main difference - and it's a huge one - is that government welcomed the internet with open arms; with bitcoin, it is not likely so.
3188  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think some countries already adding BTC to their reserves? on: December 22, 2013, 07:43:44 AM
i was thinking something along the same lins.. considering that the U.S. has been printing $85 billion per month, if they could just throw maybe 1% of that for 1 year... that'd double the value of bitcoins.
3189  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you store all your wealth in BTC? on: December 22, 2013, 07:41:01 AM
that's so reckless to put all your wealth into BTC. as far as we know,  there is a 50/50 chance that BTC will even make it. no one really knows what's going to happen. it's fine to be for the bitcoin movement, but you could easily end up losing almost everything.
3190  Economy / Gambling / Re: Random prize drawing for .5 BTC on: December 22, 2013, 06:48:33 AM
i'm not flaming but those odds (ie the house fee) work against me, if it's .475 btc handed out for every .5 taken in. that's a 5% that you'll make.. you will probably end up making some good coin though.
3191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: There have to be so many people who know who Satoshi really is on: December 22, 2013, 06:11:14 AM
i get that people are curious and wonder who satoshi is, but why so much speculation and all? he doesn't want to be known publicly, so just leave it at that. there's probably nothing to be gained by finding out who he is.
3192  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Would you tip Satoshi? on: December 22, 2013, 04:28:34 AM
while i am grateful for his contributions, i don't think he really needs money. i rather donate my $ to a good cause than give a guy with that kind of money.. more money.
3193  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Obama says Snowden’s actions have “done unnecessary damage” on: December 22, 2013, 02:56:40 AM
tea pot calling the kettle black (i don't mean that in a racist way btw).. fuck off, obama.
3194  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you believe in Aliens? on: December 22, 2013, 02:51:21 AM
Its mathematically impossible for aliens not to exist, the universe is really big and our solar system could not be more typical.
Its also mathematically impossible to travel at the speed of light

we must learn to fold space, or something!

we must!

why?

45th rule of acquisition, " Expand, or die. "  Tongue

it was discovered recently that the goldilocks zone is much more common than we think; to top that off, there are 100 billion x 100 billion stars in the universe... so yeah, we probably are not special.
3195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin Vs. lottery on: December 22, 2013, 01:34:39 AM
bitcoin is nothing like the lottery. its value is derived from its value and usefulness to people. the lottery is just about getting lucky. it's more gambling than anything.
3196  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you believe in Aliens? on: December 21, 2013, 11:57:57 PM
i don't know if aliens have really been here, but i guess it would be possible. i probably don't believe the same thing as the conspiracy theorists.

if aliens are advanced enough to get to planet earth, they are probably smart enough to somehow stealth themselves from us.
3197  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: Inida opens new exchange on: December 21, 2013, 11:45:22 PM
since india hates china so much, let's tell them that the chinese government loves cockblocking BTC  Wink

the indians will most likely end up laying the hammer down on BTC though.
3198  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you believe in Aliens? on: December 21, 2013, 11:44:00 PM
yeah im pretty certain they exist.. they might even be in the same galaxy, given the frequency of goldilocks satellites. they may or may not be intelligent, who knows.
3199  Other / Off-topic / Re: TPB and domain seizures... on: December 21, 2013, 11:35:56 PM
I just use http://pirateproxy.se/

Piratebay is blocked in the UK. They got Filestube recently too. Bastards.

the good ol' david cameron has even blocked your porn. the UK is turning into a totalitarian shithole. that guy is either an idiot or he's just testing how far he can go.
3200  Other / Off-topic / Re: Finished watching Breaking Bad?? What next? Any suggestion? on: December 21, 2013, 11:26:09 PM
heroes was terrible after the first season. it kept on rehashing the same stupid storyline. i watch the walking dead, but it can get annoying at times.. still a decent show.
