China:

2000 BC to 1950ish AD - Millions of People think their emperor is a god

1950ish-2014 - Billions of People think the richest guys real name is Ka-shing

you know, he's chinese.. the name sure does look like it fits. as previously mentioned, it's kind of ironic that his name is "ka.. shing," since that's the phonetic sound that we consider as "money maker." it would be like charlie sheen changing his name to "charlie hookersandcoke"

man, if you are a french guy and your name is pronounced "renee" or "michelle," then you might as well be wearing a skirt  Cheesy

I don't think it's right that the NBA forces him to sell his franchise, but i guess it's the politically correct thing to do.

Agreed. The reaction from the NBA was a bit over the line. To be honest, it is not appropriate to fine someone (and that too someone who is dying of end-stage cancer) $250 million for a single offensive comment.

i think the NBA's doing it since they can use the anti-racism card and no one, except for maybe sterling and his wife, will object. win/win. it's a safe move to make and only helps the NBA's squeaky clean reputation. but to be honest, they try to keep that squeaky clean reputation for the sake of appealing to more people, and that's just for the money.

2264  Economy / Speculation / Re: it will reach $5000 before this year ends on: May 15, 2014, 04:15:43 AM
if by the end of the year, it reaches $1,000 only.. it will be a historical anomaly. year to year, at least up to 2013, bitcoin has been strongly bullish. imo, if by year's end, it doesn't reach a new high.. people cannot blindly say "it's bound to head to the moon" anymore.

Melancholia

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1527186/

pointless emoness

word.. i tried watching that movie for 20 minutes and the emo-artsy style the film portrays just pissed me off. if you want to torture me, then lock me in a room and play tree of life and melancholia on repeat.
2266  Other / Off-topic / Re: NBA Playoffs - Which team are you rooting for? on: May 15, 2014, 04:09:23 AM
SAS is the one I am cheering for now  Tongue and obviously they are already at the semi-finals considering they are winning by 10-15 on PTB and only ~2 minutes remaining.

me too. with the way they lost last year, i think they're going to come back stronger against miami. and i hope they destroy the heat, who are not as good this year as they were last (wade has regressed). if kawhi leonard can lock KD down, as we've seen a few games in the playoffs so far, i think OKC is toast.
2267  Other / Politics & Society / Re: An complete argument for same-sex marriages. You can't prove it wrong on: May 15, 2014, 04:08:16 AM
i think we should ban everything that i don't like, and everything that i DO like should be legal.

that's basically how dummies who are against same-sex marriage think. and they are stupid.
2268  Other / Off-topic / Re: NBA Playoffs - Which team are you rooting for? on: May 15, 2014, 03:08:25 AM
i actually kinda felt bad for the clippers... though, to be fair, matt barnes fouled jackson.

i also think CP3 played horribly to end the game. he seemed timid, as if he were only trying to protect the lead to close the game.

Chris Paul definitely messed up, I think he was thinking that he was going to get fouled, so he was trying to throw up a three pointer from way back there.  On that instant replay play with Reggie Jackson, Barnes definitely fouled him, but you can't go back and call a foul with instant replay.   You are only supposed to be able to determine who touched the ball last Sad

"barely fouling" is still fouling. he his the wrist/hand, which caused the ball to go out of bounds. CP3 probably hates himself now.. he turned the ball over and then fouled westbrook on a 3 point shot.. i mean, shit, if he had just stood there westbrook probably would have missed the shot anyways.

from the available pool of candidates, i'd have to guess either rand paul or jeb bush will get the nod.. depends who does the better job of sniffing billionaire ass.

Quote
Ventura's victory as a third party candidate was considered a historic major upset. He ran on the Reform Party ticket, a party which was founded by two-time presidential candidate Ross Perot ...

He's still out there and making noises about a run.  I'd say it's a long-shot, of course, but not completely beyond possible.  Especially since a lot of Progressives like myself would vote for Santaclaus before Clinton.  And I'll bet that a lot of Conservatives will feel that way about whatever candidate the repubs end up with.

In some interview I saw recently Ventura's answer to the question of his first act as president was 'Pardon Snowden and Manning.'  That was enough to get my vote right there Smiley

i like hilary more than christie. though she's going to continue on the path we're on, at least she's not playing the game of winning political points.. at least not to the scale of chris christie.

so, what.. are the girls supposed to sexually harass the guys in skirts now? the thing is, though, is that the guys would welcome it.
2271  Other / Off-topic / Re: Donald Sterling Racism Controversy on: May 15, 2014, 02:55:34 AM
based on his interview with anderson cooper, it's pretty obvious that he is mentally unhinged. he's definitely racist, but he's racist and mentally ill. i don't think it's right that the NBA forces him to sell his franchise, but i guess it's the politically correct thing to do.

^^^ So it is almost certain that Billary will become the next POTUS? It will be a disaster, for both the US citizens and people from other countries. I still remember her adventures from Bosnia:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I23fjRN-PGc

it was almost certain that hilary would win the primaries in 2008 and eventually go on to defeat the less popular mccain.. but that didn't happen. it's still too early to know what's going to happen.

either way, i tore up my state ballot this year.. and i'm definitely not voting for someone with a (D) or (R) next to their name.
Yeah, I won't be voting for the GOP top of the ticket if Rand isn't the nominee, that's for sure. I'm an ancap that stands w/ Rand as he's the only one that would even remotely get us some sort of Constitutional government again and from there, we can tinker it over time towards real laissez faire capitalism. I really like his pitch of Economic Freedom Zones to the inner city folk and it's really resonating business types from all backgrounds making him the go-to guy that can offer a true republican party renaissance away from the neocons.

sorry, but i think rand is someone who is only posing as a libertarian.. he's in bed with the billionaires and corporations who run the country.

I would like to see Christie vs Clinton.  While RCP still has Clinton in the lead, I think Christie would win.

Christie is not an ideal candidate for the GOP. I would prefer Rand Paul over Chris Christie anytime. But still, it is almost impossible for a GOP candidate to win the elections, given the demographic changes within the general population.

Actually pulling away from this hardcore tea party crap would bring in many Regan Democrats.  Many people see Christie as someone who will be able to bridge both sides of the isle and do things that are better for the country than just one party.

I think Christie is the only Republican so far that could actually win.

he was looking like the frontrunner until bridgegate and then the coverup... plus how NJ appropriated the funds from the disaster a few years ago. he is the same as every other politician, except he was more effective in fooling us.

europe's election process appears to be way better than what we have in the U.S., when you begin on the campaign trail 2 fucking years before the actual election day.. that means 2 years of having to whore yourself out to billionaires and corporations, promising favors once or if you win. i wish we could adopt this policy on elections, but that's just a pipedream.

in the U.S., the media milks the campaigns (looking at you, CNN). they talk about it 24/7 just for the sake of ratings and it's really annoying.

Has anyone ever researched this guy? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Li_Ka-shing
He is quite old, at the age of 85 I would start spending this money! Look at this Net worth: US$31 billion (2012). If he would drop only 1B into Bitcoin..  Cheesy

$32 BN.. you can't really spend all of that money, unless maybe you bought islands or countries. btw, i think the king of thailand is probably a close 2nd. i think he's worth about $30 BN himself.
2276  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fate of those who challenge world's reserve currency! on: May 14, 2014, 11:31:01 PM
it's kind of shocking how, through the use of our media, our government and the rich people in bed with them, are able to invade other countries.. and sell it off to us as "freedom bringers." it's more subtle than propaganda, and goes right under our nose.

we go into poor countries, buy out their government and extract all their resources without helping the indigenous people in any way. in many cases, they turn out to be terrorists - and then we hunt them down, naming them through and through "bad guys."
2277  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Richest dude in Asia, going hard on Bitcoin on: May 14, 2014, 11:27:50 PM
...

Li Ka-Shing did not get so rich by being a dummy.  It is worthwhile to watch what the extremely rich do (as opposed to what they say).  I believe Li Ka-Shing is diversfying out of China and Hong Kong.  A big BTC position might be very smart.

* * *

Another great example was Warren Buffett buying the BSNF railroad a couple of years ago or so.  He called it "a bet on America", but, Jim Rickards characterized it better as a hard asset.  A hard asset that transports other hard assets...  Buffett is not stupid either.

Bitcoin, in a sense, is a hard asset as well.

i don't know what to think when someone says something like that anymore.. billionaires tend to be smart, but i've seen some really dumb ones who are ignorant (see Donald Sterling). then again, i don't know much about Li Ka-Shing and how he got his money.

it's kind of funny because Ka-Shing is how a cash register sounds.

2279  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Anyone see the FRONTLINE episode on the NSA? Prepare to get angry. on: May 14, 2014, 10:52:22 PM
Do know that PBS is funded by the same corporations who work with the NSA.

Frontline is controlled opposition.  This "documentary" is what is known in the propaganda industry as a "Limited-Hangout Operation", a narrative specifically designed to present information that confesses, but limits damage by hiding the most critical transgressions.

One of my co-workers does this when his wife catches him cheating.  He confesses to minor transgressions in order to hide the really bad ones.

Did you watch it? It is a scathing criticism of the NSA by former employees who left rather than break the law. Your argument makes zero sense. In fact the documentary (by some of the best investigative journalist around) repeatedly points out how little we still know and how much more investigation is needed. Of course you aren't going to find a bunch of childish nonsense like infowars or something. These are actual researched facts by serious people.

His argument makes lots of sense. He never said the information was invalid, he simply defined it as a controlled release of information. This is a very common tactic in corporations and government. It doesn't invalidate the reality of it but simply provides the accused a forum from which to explain from a perspective that benefits them. Repeating information that everyone already knows costs them nothing, but this provides opportunity so censor or misdirect from other information which is not yet public. The alternative is to let people form their own uncontrolled opinions rather having them carefully and neatly defined for them via a television program, because clearly if it is on TV it must be true. There is a reason it is called programming.

it's kind of like how phillip morris and other big tobacco guys don't mind the "quit smoking" campaigns, since they know that it has little impact on people actually quitting.

see here: http://www.legalzoom.com/us-law/more-us-law/tobacco-companies-pay-big-bucks

also a recent documentary i've seen and enjoyed was four horsemen.. full movie available on youtube.
2280  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ebay - the first tech giant to accept Bitcoin? on: May 14, 2014, 10:32:57 PM
i'm just hoping ebay chooses to join bitcoin instead of lumping "speech" (IE: money) with mastercard/visa to stifle bitcoin's development. they can still make money off of it, but probably as much if only paypal/fiat were used.
