2181  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Do you like or hate the Bitcoin foundation? on: May 16, 2014, 07:50:11 PM
well they bring negative publicity, so that makes bitcoin look bad.. so they are a bad thing, and i think you should care.
2182  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I buy bitcoin same-day? on: May 16, 2014, 07:48:52 PM
localbitcoins.com if you want it ASAP.

http://time.com/101794/obama-backs-away-from-net-neutrality-campaign-promises-after-fcc-vote/

this is one of the reasons why i don't like him. he campaigned on hope and change, and now he has become even worse against individual privacy.
2184  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Do you like or hate the Bitcoin foundation? on: May 16, 2014, 06:36:37 PM
Funny.... would Bitcoin have been created if Satoshi was required to publish his name, picture, boss's phone number and home address?

I thought so..

My thoughts exactly.  People who are able to safely express all of their ideas in the open don't have any ideas of their own.

yeah, well, the problem with anonymity is that while people can state their honest opinion without fear of backlash, people can also make statements for the sole purpose of inciting fear and anger.
2185  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Foundation hit by resignation over new director on: May 16, 2014, 06:26:42 PM
Wow, I'm really surprised how quickly Bitcoin Foundation went down the slippery spiral.  Undecided

why would you be surprised though? there's a lot of money and power to be had - to think that the bitcoin industry would be immune to this is.. well, shortsighted.
2186  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Indian General Elections 2014 on: May 16, 2014, 06:25:03 PM
there are so many parties - can someone do an overview of what the parties that have won believe in? and if those groups are open to the adoption of bitcoin? i doubt it is so, but who knows.
2187  Economy / Speculation / Re: Forget China, India will be next on: May 16, 2014, 06:23:52 PM
hasn't india really been reclusive.. and they like to block a lot of "foreign" things. i remember they didn't even like coca cola into the country. seems like, historically, their government is fractured and i guess you could say xenophobic.
2188  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Sudanese Muslim woman sentenced to death for Christian conversion on: May 16, 2014, 06:09:39 PM
Disturbing details are out. The woman was married to a Christian man for several years. They already had one child and she was pregnant with the second. The Sudanese are saying that they will stone her to death after the birth of her second child. And both the children will be taken away from her husband, to be brought up in an Islamic environment.

Let us observe the outcry pouring from all over the place and social networks. Let us admire the crowd chanting "No Justice! No Peace! Free Meriam Now!" Any hashtag from Michelle Obama #FreeMeriamNow campaign coming?

you may complain about michelle obama doing that stunt, but it got the media outlets talking about it.. and now a lot of people know what's going on. so it did have an effect, but you might just be spouting off the agenda of fox noise.
2189  Other / Off-topic / Re: This is what a $32K Flight gets you... on: May 16, 2014, 06:04:19 PM
i rather wait for virgin atlantic to go down in price, so i can experience what it's like being at the edge of our atmosphere. this is just a plane ride with opulence - not awe-inspiring at all.
2190  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [Poll] Should the minimum wage be raised? on: May 16, 2014, 06:01:00 PM
Shall we abolish punishment for rape and murder as well and let people settle their differences the good old fashion way?

A cheap security service to protect yourself from such crimes would be more efficient for people initiating force against you.

Great, so we now have private mafias and personal armies roaming around who would be ten times worse than the police without no restrictions/laws in place to keep them in check. So I guess you're probably one of these people who wants a police and government and wants to live under the threat of a gun, but just as long as we can call them something else whilst having the choice to choose whether to pay them or not? I've had these discussions several times on here and they go nowhere, but I'll entertain your fantasy if you wish.

And for those that don't have a choice? What's the option? I guess they'll have the right to choose to be homeless and starve to death, right?

And that's a very snobby and elitist/condescending thing to say.

If you decide not to choose you still have made a choice. This is a huge world. You can work anywhere, there are jobs all over. Who are these people with no choice?

Go where the jobs are. Go where you can live on whatever wage is paid. I left the US several years ago, they are so business unfriendly. I would never start a business there.

Elitists look at individuals and try to decide how they should live and condescendingly believe they know what is best for other people. Let people live their own lives, stop being so elitist and condescending.

Except there are not jobs all over and some people don't have the means to travel the world to go where they can. There are never enough jobs for everyone so there's always people that get left out, but fuck the little people, right? Without minimum wage laws set etc, many places that hired unskilled workers would completely exploit everyone they could. Illegal immigrants would flock to all these employers who pay peanuts forcing everyone else out of a job, and then even more people who are willing to work for a little bit less would then force them out a job and the cycle continues until people are practically working for free.

m8, you can't win an argument against ancaps. they want complete hands-off, even if it means the bad guys can get control of the bureaucracy.

as it currently is in the U.S., the middle class is significantly underrepresented by our "government." continuing to mute the voice of the middle class is not going to help anything at all, because the wealthy will just continue buying out washington to get more money, power, and influence.
2191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Poll] Do you like or hate the Bitcoin foundation? on: May 16, 2014, 05:58:24 PM
these polls are kind of revealing.. the only kind of people who "like" the foundation are probably the members, and we are seeing them vote here. they do have a presence here after all.
2192  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitcoin enters the $25B yearly Philippine remittance market on: May 16, 2014, 04:23:40 PM
3rd and 2nd world remittance is one place where bitcoin could really shine. Giving these people access to global monetary system would bring more than just increased acceptance and use of bit coin. It can bring economic freedom and hope. The current money transmitting industry is a group of vampires capitalizing on human misery.

bitcoin seems to help 3rd world countries the most. helps then against getting raped by countries like ours, or even their own government when they run up the value of their currency. i don't think bitcoin is going to solve many major world problems, but it'll help some people who need its services.

2194  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Silk Road marketplace lives on, despite intense government efforts on: May 16, 2014, 04:11:43 PM
How does a SR work? Do you just go to the website and see lots of drugs for sale, you put it in a cart and checkout?

well, yeah. that's how it works basically. i read there's an escrow system which is to help prevent fraud. the funds held in escrow are released when the buyer receives his stuff.

Wow that's wild. No wonder the Mercian popo wants to shut it down. It makes the drug war look so stupid if you can ship it straight to a house. They should call it Amazope or Dopeazon. Then you could have Amazope Prime. They can't get it to you in two days guaranteed but they could smoke it for you and guarantee to tell you what a great high it was within two days.

Is anybody concerned that Amazope is just a government honey pot for little piggies that want more slop in their trough?

it's probably a lot safer than buying drugs out on the street too. less likely to get shanked, and not to mention that you can see reviews of a vendor's reputation... so you have a better idea of who you are dealing with.
2195  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Glenn Beck calls bitcoin Edison's light bulb! on: May 16, 2014, 08:00:25 AM
He has a hard core following that hang on every word.

And that hardcore following is going to be extremely turned off by the two insanely effeminate males on the panel.

As great as they both are .... Beck's crowd is going to be so distracted by that, that it is going to take away from the message.

Trust me.   i know several of these people.

Dammit I wish they would think these things through before they put them on the air.

A female and two gay guys is enough to outweight Glenn Beck's opinion, to Tea Party people.   Believe me.

Don't underestimate the ignorance and hate of his demographic.

-B-

i consider his fan base as out of the mainstream but still republican.. and their preferred form of fuel is anger and delusion. it's ridiculous how they blame obama on everything, and when you ask them why.. they don't even know how to answer.

May 2014 is really early and 473 people is a small sample size, but...
It's exciting to see Rand Paul at the top.  Smiley

  • Does anyone know if his wife gave a green light, I heard she didn't want Rand to run?

you guys really think rand paul would make a difference? especially with how the political system works? as in, if he's going to be the republican elect, he's going to have to make huge promises to corporations and billionaires.

it's kind of like the people who thought obama was going to actually do things he said he'd do (i admit, i am one of them).

You guys really think rand paul would make a difference?
Have you ever read the articles he wrote for his school paper in college? (they can be found online)
Yes, Rand Paul can make a difference.*
*If nothing else (with some help from Bitcoin), he can get blamed for crashing the economy.  Shocked

how's he going to make a difference when he has to sell himself out to big corporations and billionaires? in our last election cycle, i think obama had something like $700 million to romney's $600. in order for rand paul to be elected president, he'd have to fundraise probably even more than the last election.. a big chunk of it will be from big corporations or billlionaires who will want "favors." that's why i don't need to read his papers; because our political system is rigged so that even if someone truly wanted to make a difference, it'd still be impossible.

edit: they spent, collectively, $2 billion. unprecedented.

2197  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL:Are women leaving Bitcoin due to the Bitcoin Foundation's seedy persona? on: May 16, 2014, 07:34:07 AM
i don't see how the bitcoin fundation's issues are related to women in any way. asking "are people leaving due to bitcoin foundation's seed persona" sounds more fitting.
2198  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The Silk Road marketplace lives on, despite intense government efforts on: May 16, 2014, 07:00:56 AM
even if the stolen coins haven't really been stolen and this have been just a marketing maneuver, that don't make them dishonest, since they could just shut down any day and just run away with all the bitcoins.

What i wonder is how the deliver is done. By common mail service? Can't the sellers be tracked back this way?

And what happens if they identify a drug packet addressed to me? I'm afraid if someone from my real life that dislikes me discovers my interest about bitcoin, he could just buyy something from sick road, anonymously alert the police and put me in trouble.

that's still dishonest, because even though you're giving those coins back, you are taking them away from people without their permission.. all for your benefit. i don't think that's what happened though, but who knows.
2199  Economy / Speculation / Re: Chinese banks suspend Bitcoin trade on: May 16, 2014, 06:24:07 AM
at this point, who really cares anymore? this has been the narrative since, what, the beginning of the year? i don't give 2 shits about what china's government has to say anymore. decide whether you want it or whether you don't and just let it be.

it really seems like they are just trying to mess with the price, and over time what the chinese government does will have a more muted effect.
2200  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: POLL:Are women leaving Bitcoin due to the Bitcoin Foundation's seedy persona? on: May 16, 2014, 06:19:29 AM
this is the wrong place if to ask questions if you are looking for the perspective of women in bitcoin. i think it's too male-dominant right now though, just like our political system and corporations.. not enough women.
