Are arbitrary messages used this much that it is necessary to prune it? Wouldn't it make more sense to implement blockchain pruning, would it? Jean Luc has finished Blockchain Pruning of Arbitrary Messages and will be included in the next testnet release The implementation of prunable plain and encrypted messages is complete and will be in 1.5.1e.
Arbitrary Messages is a misleading name as it makes people think that they are only used for instant messaging or other similar usage. Arbitrary Messages (AM) are actually the main data storage method in Nxt. A more descriptive translation might be "Any data storage" but limited to 1kB. So you can think of this as blockchain pruning. They are used to store hashes and reference in third party apps and such like, James uses them a lot in his projects. If the transaction is complete, the AMs are no longer needed so it is good they can be pruned. In the next version of Nxt, this size is being increased to 40kB to make them more useful. So the Fees for these are still be discussed AFAIK, but if too cheap then there is potential for bad guys to block the blockchain cheaply. Hence, blockchain pruning being implemented too.

That was just me spit balling about a future feature (Smart Contracts) I think they have something simpler in mind. NxtAT (Nat Automated Transactions) aims for Atomic Cross Chain Transactions. The Nxt core devs weren't convinced it was safe so it has been implemented in Burst (a Nxt clone with HDD mining). Qora is also implementing it so they should be able to demonstrate the tech soon (AT is intended to be blockchain agnostic, CIYAM is the dev). If it is safe and all is well, Nxt may integrate it into the core but it isn't guaranteed. Thread: https://nxtforum.org/automated-transactions/information-of-the-at-project/Another project is " FSM with assembly language", a similar thing cone by one of the devs from the AT project. This has been implemented in NFD (now HZ), which is another Nxt clone. That is on the testnet now IIRC. Thread: https://nxtforum.org/automated-transactions/fsm-with-assembly-language/You might want to post in these threads if you want to know more.

Hi Gliss, Seeing as 13 of the top 20 assets are on the Nxt platform, can we have an option to dsiplay the prices on the asset page in NXT? > http://coinmarketcap.com/assets/I have an idea of what the asset prices are in my head in NXT but I have to convert from BTC (finding the current rate) to see if the prices have change much. It is very cumbersome and not very useful. Thanks

...you reply with a personal attack to my constructive and polite input. I am totally shocked from your trolling and personal attack.
Fuck off with your requests about links, all right? I am a very patient and polite man, but when a well know scammer like yourself who has been promoting a well know scam asking from me evidence instead of providing evidence that the operation is not a scam then that is quite irrational, don't you think?
Send me a link about where your fucking useless NXT assets - that you have been selling really-really hard to newbies, idiots and naive investors - used in real world, and then we continue talking about why sensible people are sceptical about your countless vapourwares and fantasy projects (I give it you that it is not a fantasy from your viewpoint as you scam people for real money, but terms of use cases the projects/assets are in fantasy land)
Also... *snip*... please provide evidence that I am "a well known scammer" and where I have been selling anything "really really hard". Thanks for your time Also, please point to where I am "maniacally trolling and attacking" anyone. Is this a new narrative you'e trying to push, hoping no one will check the facts? That's a familiar strategy to me.. this all feels so familiar Still no links to support your claims either. I know, try ignoring me and repeating the same thing over again? It might stick. (I like your attempts to undermine me as a proxy of attacking Nxt, it is original. Please continue. It's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off.)

You can use decentralized checkpointing: hardcode that the nodes in the network won't accept reorgs deeper than x blocks. The window for re-writes will then always be x blocks.
Once x+1 blocks have passed, the devs can put a checkpoint in the next release to add an extra dead bolt to the door.
If you do manage to get on a fork, you will realize when Poloniex/BTER.. are't receiving your transactions. Peter R had a good analogy: if it were possible to connect to "the wrong internet", you would realize when you find your friends aren't getting any of your emails. This forces the number of forks in the network to continuously converge toward 1.

There is one platform that has the following on mainnet as we speak: A decentralized exchange for coloured coins ($10,000 per day long term average) A decentralized "ebay" for physical and digital goods Encrypted messages An early stage project for decentralized internet (DNS) A decentralized system that allows coins to be created inside the platform (POW option available) that has been used for trustless crowd funding. It can also be used for creating a store of value (tokens with a base value) and for secure retail vouchers. A decentralized Voting system, advanced Multisig and Blockchain Pruning will be in the next release (currently on testnet) Do you own research

CfB wrote this 9 months ago, after Nxt had been running for 6 months. https://nxtforum.org/initial-distribution/initial-distribution-of-100-pos-currencies/It gives the thinking behind why the initial Nxt distribution was chosen. It is hard to argue with, given Nxt's performance over the long term (it has been out 18 months and is in the top 10 cryptos, not number 473. Only 3-4 cryptos are in this exclusive group). Add in that Nxt is constantly innovating (Blockchain Pruning is included in NRS 1.5.1e) then I am always puzzled by this response. A 1 BTC investor got 5% of NXTs. Satoshi has ~1 million BTC that we know about, divide by 21 million >>> ... ~5% of all BTC that will ever be (7% of all BTC today). So I guess you don't touch BTC either? Taunsew will make baseless claims like "there were only 3 dudes in the Nxt IPO so they got more than 5%". The obvious response is "How do you know Satoshi wasn't mining on 3-10 different CPUs and got millions more than we know about to cover his tracks and enjoy his creation?". Both were worthless in the early days to almost everyone. So I'll let someone else do that revolution with him, we have done that dance dozens of times already Second time A reply of yours, quoted below, was deleted by the starter of a self-moderated topic. Yes, PoW mining just waste too much energy, and the most important thing is mining is become a game between rich people who can afford buy the Asic miners. Everyone can mine bitcoin is out of date.
Agreed. What would you propose instead? PoS mining is even more a game of the rich, since it effectively by definition is the epitome of plutocracy! Yes PoS mining is also a game of the rich, but compare pow, it's more efficient, at the same circumstances, which one do you choose, the answer is obviously. the problem with pos is the initial distribution, it can be cheated so easily , like happened to faircoin, communitycoin ecc... they must find a very transparent and fair initial distribution Define fair distribution.

So, is the dev branch of NXT open yet?
No, but Nxt isn't asking anyone to blindly install the dev branch on their computers.

Nxt has a new Multipool for miners to get Nxt. Try it out, report any problems Ok, NXT is available as a payout option on my pool. Please help support NXT and the pool, come mine with your ASIC's that have been collecting dust xpool . ca Any problems, let me know as it took quite a bit to get this working and there may very well be some bugs to squish. Cheers!

It would have to be as easy and safe as ebay with lower fees. The last one is the only one crypto has in its favor atm.
