341  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DAO IS HACKED SO WHAT HAPPENS TO ETH COIN? on: June 17, 2016, 06:50:59 PM
I genuinely don't believe most traders care whether it's decentralized, centralized, inflationary, run by mice or hovers ten feet above the floor. There's plenty of money sloshing around and it moves around. That's enough.

Thats true 99% don't even understand the stuff. But if the overall perception is negative than its over.

Miners typically care about the profitability for their hardware and thus dont care about what traders may think. In a sense, good traders can see a crash as a good thing.

I rebooted my S5 like I always do once per week and got this:

What is going on and how do I fix it?

Thanks!

Did you power cycle? Did you check the connectors, did you replug all controller related things? Is the PSU ok? Etc, etc. One board is down atm.
343  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: DAO IS HACKED SO WHAT HAPPENS TO ETH COIN? on: June 17, 2016, 06:36:59 PM
Explain to us all why Ethereum would go to over $50 a coin when it's been hacked and crashing fast.

Are you just Trolling us or what .. you can't be serious.

Nice self mod too ahhahahhaha  Cheesy

A hater cool.  So your vote is crash and burn correct?

I dont think Eth will Soar to 50. But if they hardfork and thus show ETH is not decentralized, i think it will crash and burn. If it doesnt i think it will recover and 50$ might be doable by the end of the year.

345  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Questions about outdoor bitcoin mining on: June 15, 2016, 09:48:56 AM
I want to build an outside bitcoin mining box that will have a roof and vents for Antminer s7, but will condensation be a problem? what about in the winter will it be too cold for it? I live in Canada. In the summer would it be too hot? Rain won't be the issue I will come up with a pretty good box design. What if it shuts down for what ever reason will it be okay?

As long as the rigs are mining, i think its okay. But if snow get in there, not so much. If you shut it down, i dont think you should boot it at -40C, no. Typically the best is to dump the heat out. If it was a proper heated shed, then sure why not, you could use the miner's output to keep the shed at a ok tempt and just vent what you need to keep the temps to something like 10C.

Not really true I don't think on as long as they are mining it's ok.  If water can get in corrosion is possible most keep far away from water for this reason.   This is dated at this point but shows what water corrosion can do to a miner - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=521520.msg11018389#msg11018389 .  So it can be running and still get corrosion.

A box outside that allows air in/out sounds like a way for water/snow/dust/other bad things to get in.   Putting it outside just scares me.   I don't see many "mining boxes" outside being weather proof.

Right, but i'm talking about a small shed "box", you can't leave electronic exposed to the outdoor in any case. They're going to get flooded and shorted long before corrosion sets in.

Again we don't know what OP is talking about on quality.  I see it hard small scale box to make it allow good air flow and block all water/dust/outside badness.   Evaporation or other things could cause corrosion as I showed a old SP20 that ran till corrosion got it (not mine).  It was from being to close to window.

There is no guarantee that you would get a flood of water vs corrosion but I guess depends on build quality.  But again if were talking about such a high quality miner box outside.... it does not make financial sense for 1 miner.  I still would avoid outdoors I don't agree with your "As long as the rigs are mining, i think its okay." due to air outside getting into this small box chances are.

If you dont agree, then you're probably repeatedly mixing stuff. You may want to reread the topic and then how condensation happen, and then comment again? At no point have i said as small box with the miner inside was ok. I talked about a heated shed only. Something like this:
https://www.familyhomeplans.com/project_details.cfm?ProjectNumber=90030
But designed to pull the clean air from bellow and then dump the excess heat out with probably a big fan pushing air out would be nice.

As long as the miner is running, condensation should'nt happen. I already told you but i'll tell you again. I'm not saying to run this exposed to weather, he asked about "too cold" i say "its fine".

Just to be 100% clear, i was commenting about the temperature question;
will condensation be a problem? what about in the winter will it be too cold for it? I live in Canada.

Being in Canada, i've done this for 2 winter already. Humidity is nearly capped out here (70-90% is very common) and there is no problem as long as no condensation happen. If someone got his miners wet when they were next to a window, it was probably due to rain or such hitting the miner.

347  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Rate my RIG on: June 14, 2016, 05:07:42 AM
The thread now being in Altcoin...

You can mine Ethereum to make a bit of money back from that big chunk of money. Its definitively a personal PC for gaming, and not a mining rig. But i also mine with my one gaming rig to recoup (some of?)the costs. The only difference is i went for AMD (even though i much prefer NVIDIA GPU stability over AMD's many many issues) for the best profitability.

But really, i am considering something like a 1080 TI, whenever/IF as well. Specially with the VR scene blooming lately. NVidia is usually often poor. (It has been for most of my experience in the last 2+ years.)

Will try Ethereum soon after got my 1080 GTX.

Btw, can i ask you about Ethereum soon?

You can come by the IRC, but be careful with 1080 GTX its not supported much yet.

352  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is BITMAIN a trusted source for purchasing mining equipment? on: June 12, 2016, 10:20:46 PM
This is a thread about reliability and you didn't expect arguments coming?  Roll Eyes

This topic is about the trustworthiness of BITMAIN.

Thats exactly what all my comments are about. Personal trifles aside. They deliver, but if you get a bad unit, tough luck. Also i've bought units that were obviously used as they were full with dust. Its not that they are scam. Not at all, its that they have poor ethics. They could have at least cleaned it, but no.

If you get a good unit. Good for you, no problem. If you get bad unit, they will tell you they give you compensation, yet some people have been waiting for months/years for compensation and never got it.

Or what they get is a few months later a shitty worthless coupon.
353  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is BITMAIN a trusted source for purchasing mining equipment? on: June 12, 2016, 08:12:02 PM
You're suggesting that a company is implicitly unethical because its Chinese, not only is that racist but nearly every example of mining companies has shown the opposite.

No, i'm saying they're in China, thats far, it cost more to ship back a controller, than buy a new one. In which BITMAIN refused to honor the warranty unless the defective controller was sent to them.

Stop twisting your version of what i said in favor of you argumenting and harass me on forum, while its purely off topic. If you have an issue with me, kindly take it to PMs.
354  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Is BITMAIN a trusted source for purchasing mining equipment? on: June 12, 2016, 07:25:22 AM
I'm new to mining and am wondering whether BITMAIN is trustworthy or not.
Any recommendations will be appreciated.
Oh for sure. They're by far the best company out there for hardware right now with their new s9. Definitely trustworthy. I recommend waiting about a month because some very crazy things are going to be happening and it's best not to expose yourself to that much risk.
They have dubious ethics and rip-off prices, but definitively legit, as far as a company can be legit in China.
As far as a post can be racist, that's racist.

Such a sensitive snowflake you are. Should really consider chilling the fuck out sometimes.

You remind me of Social Justice Warriors today that get all raving-mad when people point out facts that run counter to their world view.

I'm not sensitive at all - I pointed out that something really dumb he said was really dumb. While using no evidence he stated that Chinese were implicitly scammers while the actual facts show that its us 'westerners' are the ones to have churned out 99% scam companies.

Oh, so this is what the huge drama train against you is...dogie. You attacking people on the forum, that is.

I dont care for your attitude, so i would appreciate if you would kindly bring it somewhere else. Now if you're here to discuss and not just bitch because you have a bad day, i will elaborate on what i'm saying and would then like you to keep your moronic comments to yourself ;

As far as dealing with a company in China; I'm saying the North America consumers rules don't apply there. I'm talking about ethics here, not ethnicity. Jeez. So by dealing with Bitmain IN CHINA, you have to deal with their shitty ethics, support and services and tough luck if they rip you off. (personal experience = they don't care about you or respecting your consumer rights)

Thats not racism. So if you think what i said is racist. I think you should question yourself on the topic of bigotry.

Next time, try to make a minute effort into staying on the topic, instead of going all "I'm an American, wha whaa Racism" we dont even have Racism here.

356  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Selling: 25x Bitmain Antminer S3 on: June 11, 2016, 09:14:27 PM
They sure were great miners. Probably the best I've ever owned.

I had luck selling mine locally on Craigslist. I tried selling it online but nobody wanted to pay $20-30 to get it shipped.

But good luck with sale.

Yeah, i bought mine for 20CAD few months back and it was part of a bigger deal and was done locally. If i had spare power, i would jump on buying old hardware on freeish electricity.

I managed to make my S5's quieter than a stock S3, but i still prefer the S3 because you can make it completely silent with 20dB fans.
357  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Radeon RX 480 --- How many LTC can it mine per day? on: June 11, 2016, 09:09:39 PM
The internet is buzzing with news about the latest $200 Radeon RX 480. Does anyone knows how to calculate the amount of LTC it could mine per day on one of those cards?

People should probably mention in the first place that Litecoin is a ASIC zone now, and it does not matter how good your GPU is, you should not mine LTC with it, at all. Bar none.

Now there is a thermal throttle that will kick in if you reach a specified temperature, in a per GPU basis. (Fan set to max, core set to 800).
