1101  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] 4x Avalon 6 with psu's on: February 15, 2016, 01:09:19 AM
4x Avalon 6 with psu's. currently hosted by sidehack. bought 3 weeks ago. 10 btc or b.o.
have to pay for mri that insurance didnt cover.

Sorry to hear about that, I had a similar situation with 3 mris. I got set back over 10K, medical debt blows. GLWS!

Sucks, they aren't giving returns in near the vicinity we were hoping to get back 3 weeks ago either. Fucks up investment plans, also need to sell stuff to meet ends.
1102  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB/WTT] LGA 1150 CPU/DDR3 RAM on: February 15, 2016, 12:31:53 AM
1150 CPUs will never be cheap. AMD CPUs usually are cheap but intel always holds their value and especially the current generation. I had to buy a CPU+MOBO this week also. I just got a MOBO from MemoryExpress clearance section and got the G3258 Intel CPU which was $95. The mobo was only $70.

In 6 months you can probably resell on eBay for almost the same price as new.

Um, i can get Celeron 1150 for 40$ here from retail. I'm not sure which one the G3258 is but, thats insanely expensive. The mobo brand new on amazon is 40$ as well.

Thanks for everything Phil!

Anybody have a suggestion of where to go next? I've got 3 sticks and no good place to point them yet.

I'd say leave them here until you feel like changing them to (your own) solo.ck pool. I guess you could always sell them if true lottery mining is not your thing.
1104  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Temperature log from cgminer in Antminer s5 on: February 14, 2016, 10:20:26 PM
Hi.

I am running Antminer s5. It uses cgminer.

I wish to monitor the temperature as a function of time and am interested in either the temperature log file or the file containing the current temperature. Or a simple Linux command that gives me the current temperature.

I am inside the s5 through Linux so I can easily create the log myself, if I knew where the file with the current temperature is.

Any comments from you will be highly appreciated.

Best regards,
aknnig

Just pull the live temp value from cgminer's api;

Dude that stuff is so cheap, just bite the gold coin and buy it. Gees.. Grin

Yeah i agree, Its cheap, but these thing's resale value is like 70% cheaper than cheap still. I'm def buying them locally if needed before i receive the rest of the stuff. But i'm a bit tight on money since nobody wants to buy SHA256d asic right now even if the price is great. So i'll try to pinch every penny i can until i can sell some stuff. Tongue

Saturday Bump. PM me if you're interested in some S5's.

Last Bump. I get nobody wants to buy anything because of the big bad difficulty, but i figured i'd try one last bump. Cheers.

Sourced some of the stuff i needed. I am still looking for a LGA 1150 CPU or two. And 1x4GB or 2x2GB DDR3 ram once or twice. Some cheap HDD solution as well. Pm please. Smiley

BTW You can run OS from USB keys.....

and I see you're shifting from sha-256 to something else ...?

I'm going to do both, i'm just selling my S5's, not the rest. And I have a OS solution to run on USB keys. I just want a windows backup in case i need to change algo, its easier to do on windows.

Also; I am still still interested in CPU/RAM until tomorrow.

Last bump, if someone wants to do a last minute trade, PM me. Cheers.
1108  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I have some questions about mining on: February 13, 2016, 08:07:43 PM
No, you won't make more than a few sats per day, period. Even if the VPS provider will allow you to mine on their servers, the costs are very high and the reward is only a few sats per day.
even if you buy a hole vps reseller? and not some, which will give a lot of vpss

Yes, you'd need a million of full servers to even come close to the smallest BTC ASIC miner. It would cost you millions per month to earn a single bitcoin after a while. Get a USB miner or something.

1111  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: BitMain 20% Off on: February 13, 2016, 04:49:33 AM
How do you explain the screenshot then if its a fake?

The same way phisher make fake websites to look like real bank sites or other sites that steal your credentials.  I don't do it so I don't know, but I imagine that it can be done.  I'm not sure if it's a coupon or not, but I can't select a coupon from that page on the Bitmain site.  The only time I can select a coupon to use is during checkout but he doesn't say it's a coupon, just a loyalty discount and if this does exist who even knows if Bitmain allows you to transfer it to another user.   I don't know if it's legit or not, I'm just saying proceed with caution and always use escrow.

To be honest i dont think Bitmain would do it in the first place, ever. They dont even offer such discount in 500-1000 MOQ orders. And if they did, i really doubt they could write that many english words without writing them in a 90% broken English.

electricity fees is 0 here.now tell me btc mining will be profitable or not in any case?
Yes it will be profitable if you buy a powerful asic miner try to buy ant miner s7 and i think you can make 1btc plus every month without electricity fee's.
Even the difficulty is high it will still profitable without electricity fee but i don't think so if the halving ends if you start to mine right now  then in 3 to 4 months you recovered all your money used to bought a s7 miner.. after that you can make your profit lifetime..

Umm, no. A S7 is already under half a BTC per month and its going to drop to 0.4BTC per month or so next week. I would definitively recommend something much cheaper in $/GH/s.

Also even with free electricity, OP may not be able to runs S5/S7 at home because of the noise.

If you can get some S1's for 20$ or S3's for 40$ or S5's for 125$, then yeah. Because even though the difficulty is going to shit and the profits are dropping, since you would have no upkeep to pay, anything you return would be profit. Then yeah its possible to profit.

If you are in Canada i could have good deals for you. If not, might still be possible to help you find cheap hardware.
1114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is mining difficulty on: February 13, 2016, 02:22:35 AM
what do you mean by don't.
do you think i should not purchase...?why

you wont make profits from mining anymore, if you really want to try mining you can rent hashing powers on https://www.miningrigrentals.com/

I make nice profits from mining. It really depend on your electricity costs. If OP give me the information i asked for, i could tell if yes or nots its possible.
1115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: what is mining difficulty on: February 13, 2016, 01:35:01 AM
i am junior in mining and want to purchase an hardware so before purchasing i want to know everything.
thanks

What is your budget, electricity cost, do you need a silent miner or you can handle something louder than a jetplane? Can you run it somewhere cool in a dedicated area?

Mining difficulty is simple. Mining diff = required Diff for a share to be worth a block. So if the diff double, your shares have 50% as much chance to be a block. TLDR 100% raise in diff reduce your income in BTC by 50%.

what do you mean by don't.
do you think i should not purchase...?why

Its a horrible horrible horrible time to buy in right now.

1118  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: S7? LOL on: February 12, 2016, 02:45:19 AM
*shortned again way to long of set of quotes

You are not pushing hard then.   I go back to GPU day's and I would push mine hard as GPU companies had amazing RMA policy's  back then.  I was about making as much as possible, and granted a few times I pushed to far... puff of smoke.  But overall I gained more doing this as I was pushing all my rigs.

The thing today about GPU's is you just don't make enough off of them to ROI.  You are going to have to sell to get money back. You might make a small profit but you will not make ROI these day's GPU mining.

Huhh, so i would push them hard actually and they would crash. No damage done, lower clock by 5mhz step until it stop crashing. I keep them at 65-75C, i never had a problem. Sound to me like the GPU's VRM must of overheated. Happens if the heatsink doesnt cool them down.

It was not overheat trust me.  I remember one GPU as soon as I set it up on intensity to high... instant smoke out of cap on it.   I kept them all cool so was not a issue there, but I pushed them hard.

It was directly related to intensity of GPU settings.   They might have made it harder to do now I have not kept up with mining with GPU software, I'm would guess it has changed some in past few years.  I had all the proper risers to get more space and spread them out, there was great cooling.  So no issues on heat did not cheap out when making the rigs back then.

Well i remember in the Scrypt era, i heard a few people break their GPU's, but when i did tests myself, my 280x would do 745Kh/s and if i took diff from 13 to 18, they would work insanely high, get 765Kh/s but pool side there would be not that much of a difference.

Imo i dont think a 2% speed difference thats not even fully effective is worth doing high intensity vs low. Certainly not worth the downtime of having to RMA Gpus.
But thats just me i guess.

You say it was due to temperature, you did not even know it could happen due to intensity.  Then you turn into a expert again.   When you say your 280x are you saying you mined during it with 1 GPU?   You have to understand 1 GPU compared to many rigs is like apples and oranges.

Also different brand 280x and models got different speeds, had different best settings.  There was not a 280x setting that was for all. You act like a 280x is one single item. Different ones preformed different there all brands/models did not get same speed. Look back and you will see this.  Look at RMA's back then it was common if you had a sizable amount to have do them.   It's not that you wanted to it was a cost of doing business.

The best question is why let this go further?  There is no point to argue GPU mining from years ago.

I had 4 rigs, Tri-X and Gigabyte Rev 2. I picked these two from said considerations.

Hey I am planning to open my own satoshi faucet or investment site for everyone to earn a little bit. But i want to reach everyone that is using faucets or is just using bitcoin. Do you have any tips for me?

I could give you the tips of posting it in the right section when its up i guess;
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=212.0

Thats where the users doing that kind of stuff should check.

What's everyone planning on doing with their sticks that were dedicated to the solo club? Kinda curious. I'm going solo!

I think my 2 sticks will keep hashing for Phil, until they hit a block Cheesy

I'm also leaving it on for now, as little as it does for Phil, i guess thats that. I kind of wish he could of recoup'd some of the cost he put into this. A bit insane tbh and with the diff going nuts, everyone's feeling down.
