You missed the thread - we are talking about mining ethereum not running windows
You asked if "this worked" on a P4 on windows 7 or needed 2gb or 4gb ram or windows 10. You're talking about making it work on that hardware/software. Since these things have arguably nothing to do with mining Ethereum, your question is very ambiguous. If you're asking if a 2GB GPU can mine Ethereum, then the answer is yes. But you're bringing up other unrelated stuff. For example which windows you use change how many GPU Windows will support. Nothing relating specifically to Ethereum. TLDR: Any of those is not any different for Eth than other algos.

are you sure about that adaseb ? someone is asking me if this works in a p4 PC with Win 7 .. Do you know if it needs 4 gb or 2gb ram or windows 10 ?
Vram has nothing to do with requirement to run Windows. You dont even need the GPU to run it.

I would like to design a open source miner for example as a shiled for the raspberry, if only I could get some asics in small quantities.
Right now the only way to get mining asics is desoldering them from broken mining gear, or am i wrong ?
You can get some asics, for example http://www.dualminer.com/SFARDS-SF3301-40-chip-package_p_34.htmlInteresting, but also a bit outdated with the new 16nm ASICs coming out now. Do you know if there is a possibility to get or buy one sample of that chip ? Of course. Just waves a couples of millions of USD at Bitfury or Bitmain, see if they bite.

Can'T tell you anything without a screenshot of the status page. It could be something as silly as the pool going offline, etc.

Is there some kind of april fool-like equivalent thing in China or something? This is silly as hell. o.O

I guess we'll see what they send me back...
|
|
|
Yes And you're going insanely nuts on math.
It cost bout 100$ to run a S7 per month. It return 168$. Very soon the reward will halve and the difficulty constantly rise over time, diminishing returns.
|
|
|
can you return it ?
Yes. I have to it seem. You sure its not coil whine? Some PSUs with some miners or GPUs having bad coil whine.
Well it does the noise even before the miner start mining, at minimal load. And it shut down itself after a few hours, now. can you return it ? On newegg getting a replacement is really easy on RMA in most cases. Not sure how easy it will be to get a flat return though. It was refurbished so i'm not quite sure what they will send back but i hope i have some kind of revision with the RM850 fixed, otherwise i won't be able to mine much with it heh.

I have a S5 on a RM850. First the fan does not spin. And second it make a electric buzzing which is pretty annoying. It sound like an electric clipper, albeit with a lower dB.
Is this normal? Also at 393hz i estimate the draw DC to be over 600W. I would have thought the fan would spin.
the rm850 has some issues let me find a link This was a refurbished unit (from Newegg) for 50$ so i jumped on it. But if you're saying all the RM850 are like that... But no one in the reviews mention this noise, that i can see. they do mention that the older rm850 did not turn the fan on fast enough and units burned. I see. I was wrong though, the fan didnt spin at 350mhz. When i raised to 393hz it actually started spinning but its very slow and not really something nice for ambiant mining condition. Anything about the noise being normal? I was thinking of using the RM850 for a secondary PC, i'm only using it for a S5 temporarily, while i get a PSU RMA. But there is no way i want a "silent PSU" make a clipper noise in my backup PC.

are picks closed? this was so quick. No, they have not opened yet.

those look the same as those that were posted by stein or amph, are you the one behind those open frame? or different person? because in your site they are more expensive
Look the same? Not even close. More expensive? About the same price, ~$100 USD. I got the one you sent me a while ago, but then i got too busy to build more rigs. Its on my todo list to assemble it, now, lol.

for me i panic if I see one miner i have i can see temps in the software go close to 60 c so to me 60 is my max that's anytime of year .!!!!
60C is really low in term of hardware temperature. It would be good to make sure the temps reading are accurate but you know, you put these in the oven and they dont melt. So 60C is excessively conservative.

No problem Happy mining! I did not get back to you on making a bigger purchase than just the S3's, because halving + summer heat mean i'm considering waiting after the summer heat.

Yeah something like that however the neighbours can probably see all that so I am looking for something a little more private.
Something to exhaust the heat thru a vent hose.
So using my frame built out of the wire shelf; https://i.imgur.com/JFpq8xT.jpg?1I put it against the wall and i'm pushing the hot air toward the window. Here is a rough idea for that setup which is effectively the same as mine; https://i.imgur.com/0CJG9Q3.png?112kW to 6.6kW Yellow is temporary "wall" personally i'm using acoustic panels where i can. Green is the GPU area which would be one wire shelf with multiple levels. Arrow is airflow. The opening is ideally a huge window that fit 20" fans or bigger or a doorway. Mine fit 18"*44* so i'm good for two boxfan and i'm dumping upward of 10kW outside. From the outside you see 2 box fan and thats it. That photo that you drew, it is suppose to be rotated ? Because it looks like you have a window ceiling. Or I'm I looking at it differently. Standard layout and point of view of blueprint. I mean the way you draw a layout on a blueprint is from bird's eye perspective, top down. 12kW to 6.6kW

What are the gpu's that you have to hit 12kW ? I believe you would only reach that much with GPUs such as 280x or 290/390.

Depends on WHICH miner you are talking about.
My SP20s were quite comfortable at a reported 115C temp (on-die, not on-board) while I prefered to keep my S5s down around 60C or close and got very unhappy if they ever got much past 65.
I been running my S5's super quiet lately, they have been doing 70-83C for 2 months now.
