And does anyone know if you can use a full house surge protection for this by wiring it into the 240v cable?

Then you were right.

But I'm moving this spring, and i'm not 100% sure of know how things will be there.

It also coincide with the "cool times" soon to end AND then the halving will be next door. So i'm thinking there will be a speculative BTC spike before the halving, which could be a good time to sell hardware for many reasons.

That is a bummer for sure it seemed like you had a sweet gig with current apartment. You seemed to run a good amount of gear for an apartment... and free is awsome.    Mind if I ask what is making you move?  I would try to stay if I ever found a deal like that.

I am surprised the landlords did not throw a fit though with electricity cost.

Big corporate apartments complex do not have individual meters. I'm leaving because it was a temporary deal. I'm getting my cheap apartment now, i just dont know what the circuit there can support. For all i know it could be 60A.

And its older, so i'd have to scale up the sound proofing a lot. I just dont know yet.

If you're willing to go without a stove, you could hook up your rigs to it's electrical circuit. That's what i did here in Ottawa. Otherwise, i was stuck with less than 10 THS. I'm moving back to Toronto in the summer. Once again, I'm lucky as I'll have an apartment with electricity included. So I plan to take my 240 set up and run it there. Probably will shut down my S3 and S5s ...but keep my S7s rolling.

Did you replace the outlet or the plug, to fit in the Oven receptable? Also did you figure out a way to get surge protection on your setup? I'm pondering getting a surge protector at the outlet or just use surge suppressor strips plugged into the PDU.
1044  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: I want to mine on my Oven' NEMA 14-50r on: February 17, 2016, 07:19:05 PM
well that could work  but I am USA 120 volt  and my whole house  does both 120 lines coming in. so when I link the pair of 120s to make 240 I have 240 surge protection.

So in the usa I never really looked int0 240 volt surge protectors.

plug- pdu -surge suppressor- psu- miner    should work but since I never used   a stand alone  240 volt suppressor (only my whole house that shunts surges into the ground)

I do not want to say buy this one or that one.

Thank you very much for the help, i'll iron out the rest with someone i know that can put all this stuff together like a PRO.

the middle pdu is the  one a screw driver will remove the plug.  save the plug as it is worth  10 usd.

a screwdriver would allow you to attach the yellow plug.

the 24amp rating is the derated number ie the full 24amp can be used .

so 4 s-7's

 using this cord

4 of these

any other idea I do would not be code.

I assume PDU's dont have surge protection. How do i get it for this?

I am in a private home I use a whole house protector at the panel.

I'm in an apartment. How about a surge protector at the 14-50p?

Would at 0.01BTC entice some people into pointing out info/a good deal that could lead in a quick resolution of my power cap solution? A more permanent grade solution would still be interesting to obtain in the following month or so, but i could really use some extra Amps right soon.

Yeah I can help you let me go to my pc and not my iPad .

okay here is your receptacle

correct?

Correct.

I need to know what your psu power cords are.

They're the 120V, i understand i will need to get C13 to C14. Or such.

either of the above can be used to build an adapter

if you use the yellow plug:

https://i.imgur.com/ybJrMWu.jpg

You can attach a pdu like this one. just take the plug off it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/30-56205-S5-Compaq-50-60Hz-24A-4-port-PDU-Power-Distribution-Unit-Upgrade-/390707937861?

this is the yellow plug---------------------------------------- lll  -----------------------  the plug on the pdu is  3 wire remove it
                                                                                lll
                                                                                lll
       (N) --------------------- leave empty       ------------- lll   ------------------(no wire for the neutral)
                                                                               lll
(H)         (H)                                                             lll                           [H]        [H]
                                                                               lll

     (G)                                                                                                        {g}

so for 40 bucks  15 for the plug and 25 for the pdu    you can run 4 s-7's

as that pdu can do 24 amps  or 5760 watts

so do you like the idea?    is it worth 0.01

I do like the Idea. Is there a plug i could plug two of those PDU on? The breaker its on is 40A, so i would also like a possibly more expensive alternative PDU that would do 30-40A or a way to plug two of such PDU on one receptacle? I also think i will need more than 4 ports because i have ATX PSU's in the 650-1050w range mostly.

Also, the shipping on that item is 110USD, so i will try to find an alternative.

Lastly, do i need any special tools to do this? I got basically nothing here beside a screwdriver and pliers.

Regardless, tell me where to send the 0.01BTC. Smiley

P.S.; I'm in Canada so i'm looking through http://www.ebay.ca/sch/i.html?_odkw=PDU&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XPDU+240v.TRS1&_nkw=PDU+240v&_sacat=0

and amazon.ca, newegg.ca etc.

Edit:
First find;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Pulizzi-Eaton-Powerware-ePDU-T982F3-Series-Monitored-PDU-T982F3-F-SL-109-240V-/321000822839?hash=item4abd23d837:g:i4YAAOSw9mFWJrY~
Only 24A but has lots of outlets.

Second find, really cheap;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HP-1U-Rack-Mount-24A-200-240VAC-1P-Core-Module-PDU-EO4501-417580-D71-228481-002/201523035542?_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140620091411%26meid%3D1a1d84df33944300b5cc080c3217462e%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D222021624372

Third find, 40A, cheap;
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/HP-8-3kVA-40A-Core-Modular-PDU-EO4505N-417587-D71-228481-007-3x16A-Power-Cords-/401071409648?hash=item5d61b809f0:g:YEYAAMXQXTZRfqll

I'm guessing i'd need some power strip to put on it to get the outlets i need.

Where are you from? North America has Coinbase and many others. Multibit HD is integrating with a exchange that will allow sell and buy of BTC to and from Bank account right now. More region will be added soon but right now its only North America.

Still missing payment and becoming a consern,. Hope you resolve problems as last few payment have had problems on.

We were on a streak of 2 working in a row to.  I know they will fix it, it is kinda a bummer for this to happen.

It's still the best sig campaign.  Just wish we could work out these from happening.

Hmm, well i got the full payment (just now), counting the posts after the 14th, so at least thats one problem fixed. The ongoing one that really bothered me.

Same here.  Thank you for getting a payment out.   Only thing is with it going past Sunday, Monday and Tuesday posts did not get paid and the counter reset to zero.

If you can do a payment run for monday/tuesday we would be all back to normal and great.

I got the full payment, i'm not sure how this works. Are the payout values manual? Or the bots derps at random?

1052  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: New miner advice on: February 17, 2016, 07:15:41 AM
I'm not too concerned about power cost as most of my miners will be ran with solar power during the day and standard electricity at night with battery backup during the switchovers.

Doesnt that mean you pay electricity half the time?
1053  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB][Shipped to Canada] r9 280x or similar on: February 17, 2016, 05:23:39 AM
As per title.

I got less GPU than expected, so i'm going to start keeping an eye out for good deals.

Depending on what you got, i'm interested in paying 100$ per GPU. Both the GPU and the fans must be in fair working/mining condition.

Estimate shipping to J8T 1S4.

Could you buy $1500 or so worth of stuff at once?  Take the motherboards and PSUs and shit also?  laugh

If they're EVGA g2's+ but the thing is i just bought a bunch of stuff. Might still be able to work something out but Right now i need just GPU's since i got all the rest. Depending on what you have exactly, maybe we could run it here meanwhile. *Shrug*

Probably older generation miners dropping off to either be replaced or just simply being taken offline due to inneficiencies.

10% PH so quick could be older generation but i think it would still be a data center. Nobody has 100PH of S3's in the first place so, i'm wondering why exactly and also. Why now? Why not after the next diff increase? The timing doesnt make that much sense.
1058  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Feb 7 to Feb 19? picks are closed. on: February 16, 2016, 11:38:54 PM
Well the trend continues on down. Today looking like being just a 140 Block Day and if this continues we are only going to see a +12% period?

Rich

yeah we could which will mean next jump is  going to be 10% or more.

Any idea why the network went down 10% hashrate? More Russian Datacenter failure?
1059  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: GPG encrypted bitcoin transfer on: February 16, 2016, 08:32:18 PM

Thank you for your help. I think it is just a signature. Very weierd, because he clearly states that he has sent bitcoin Sad

I see 0 to mix PGP into this. Just ask him the TXID if he did send it. I'm assuming you sent him a BTC address and he is to send BTC to that address. No Bitcoin is going to go through PGP, you can't import it into your wallet, he has to sign and send from his wallet.

I very much doubt he would instead send you the privkey for you to access the BTC, so PGP has no place here.

I think they will make another batch and sell again.  I think they have mastered design with least amount of chips needed and high freq.  I think they make a killing when they sell them.  So I feel every batch just means more money for them.  I think we will keep seeing them and they will lower prices based on difficulty partially trying to drum up new sales at lower price each batch.

I agree and am hoping they drop prices to get one final big push of miners out the door before 16nm miners make the S7 a thing of the past.

they will have to be very cheap to be worth anything.. currently, at 10c a kwh they cost around 90$ a month to run, and in 2 days or so they will only make 170$ a month..

they will only be worth while to people with very low power cost.

at 5 cents power or less they are good gear. at 10 cents not very good.

i was thinking about getting one this round but my power costs arent so good..

Costs are based on average PSE residential rates for electric service ($.088594 per kWh [first 600 kWh] and $0.107172 [remaining kWh])

Right now, i'm finding it icky at 0.06$, so i would second your own judgment here. I used to recommend at 0.07 and under. At the moment i would not get in unless i was at 0.03 which myself am not. I'm even considering selling the 2 S7 that i have. Maybe even the Avalons 6 even though they're pretty chill.

I always assumed you had free electricity from your apartment building.

Then you were right.
