341  Economy / Speculation / Re: Can Bitcoin Drop to Zero? on: January 11, 2024, 10:54:09 PM
~
And what's the different between theoritical and practical drop to zero for BTC?

I mean, sure, theoretically anything can happen. We could face a nuclear catastrophe, our sun could go supernova, or an asteroid could collide with Earth and wipe out all life.  Or, Bitcoin could just up and tank to nothing someday.  But realistically that is not happening anytime soon.  For BTC to completely crash, some wild stuff would have to go down.

Hold on a second! But how do we know this Gary's account is not compromised?

Maybe the tweet about the fake tweet is actually fake itself?  Grin

This made me laugh! LOL!

@nelson4lov, please update the topic title so it is not misleading.

Man! The Bitcoin market is like a rodeo bull on steroids. Even a fake news of an ETF approval can send it bucking and snorting. Get ready for a wild ride!  Cheesy

Nonetheless we'll see what happens when the case study is done down the line.

I am genuinely interested to see how that case study turns out and find out more.  (Im not being sarcastic)

Just wanted to mention too that some truly decentralized forums already exist - Freenet's been around for over a decade or so, for example.  But it is still sucks big time to actually use.  and hardly anyone actually bothers with it anyway.  People just dont want taking responsibility for moderating stuff themselves.  And you need a ton more bandwidth and drive space compared to regular old client-server setups.  So Id definitely be curious to check out your ideas for a more user-friendly, lightweight version that doesnt dump so much on the end user.
346  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralize Bitcointalk on: January 07, 2024, 07:30:43 PM
I want a decentralized forum more than you, but I'm not going to claim that a decentralized solution (whether it's for a forum or payments) is going to be lighter compared to centralized solutions. I'm afraid you don't understand the technicalities involved.

The burden of proof lies on you...

Decentralized systems undoubtedly carry more "weight" than centralized ones.  Replicating data across nodes, running consensus algorithms, coordinating distributed components - it all adds complexity. Perhaps we could develop nimbler decentralized protocols but we should not expect a decentralized system to ever match centralized efficiency.

Ultimately, it is misleading to claim that decentralized systems can be "lighter," or even as lightweight as centralized, and the two approaches feature fundamentally different trade-offs.  We choose between them according to the requirements of each application.  For some, decentralization provides indispensable security properties, despite the costs and complexities.  For others, centralization's simplicity and speed take priority.  Blanket comparisons seldom account for those nuances, and BenCodie clearly does not know much about the technical aspects of decentralized networks, or it is possible that he is simply misinformed.

I got hd over 10 yrs old.......... with this lost bitcoin...

$100 worth on bitcoin from 2011 is big money nowadays mate:

Mate, you are replying to a post that is more than a year old, and the OP has been inactive since April 2023. Even if he hasnt solved their problem by now, I doubt that your advice will be of any use to him now.
348  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling on: January 07, 2024, 04:45:49 PM
Theoretically speaking if you could predict the algorithm in an online casino wouldn't you be able to predict the game and win a lot let's just say you had access to the algorithm and you were able to replicate it you would practically be able to win all the games

No, predicting games at online casinos to win big isnt as easy as figuring out their algorithms.  These sites use random number generators (RNGs) so everything should be fair and random.  RNGs spit out random outcomes all day long, so even if you are some math genius, you cant beat them.

Sure maybe once in a blue moon some dude finds a bug in the system to exploit.  But thats pretty rare nowadays since the IT security at these places is no joke and  so i would not bank on it if I were you.  More likely, youll just lose big bucks trying to crack the code.  My advice?  Have fun if you gamble online, but go in knowing the house usually wins.
349  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Back after long hibernation! How to gain Merit !! on: January 06, 2024, 10:47:47 PM
You have been away for a long time. A lot has changed since you were last here. One of the big changes is the introduction of the merit system. Now users have to do more than just make posts to rank up. I suggest you take a look around and reacquaint yourself with the forum. It shouldn’t be hard for a old member like yourself.

He was not away for that long. He was active in 2023, 2022 and 2021 as well.  Also, he does not need merits to rank up, since he is already a Legendary rank member.

I see you applied for Stake campaign. I’d like to point out to you that the merit requirement is not your only challenge, your bad reputation is also a problem. You have to proof to the community that you’re innocent of the accusations in order to rebuild your reputation.

Thats true.  His bad reputation is a much bigger issue than his lack of merits.  Merits can be easily earned if he makes an effort, but solving the negative tag on his account and rebuilding his reputation is a much more difficult task.
350  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Carefulness of bitcoin transaction to avoid permanent loss. on: January 06, 2024, 10:21:46 PM
Then I still have another question on this advice. Has any effort been made to produce a software that could retrieve a lost bitcon?

The way Bitcoin works, with transactions recorded across many different nodes, makes it real hard to reverse transactions or un-send money once its gone through.  Thats kind of the whole point of Bitcoin - it runs on a decentralized network where everyone keeps track of transactions on a shared ledger so no one can mess with it.  If someone somehow invented a way to "retrieve" lost bitcoins, that would punch a huge hole in what makes Bitcoin special.  It would kill the idea that the system can't be changed or controlled by central authorities.

Bitcoin is meant to resist censorship and oversight.  If people could retrieve lost coins whenever they wanted that power could definitely get abused to censor transactions or  to centralize the control. It would undermine trust in the system, which could wreck the currency altogether.  Sure it sucks when bitcoins are lost forever.  But thats the price for having a currency that no individual or government can manipulate.

Just putting it out there
~

Youre dodging the question.  Why do you have a persistent habit of lying?  Specifically, your use of a VPN to access this forum.  Have you become so bold as to believe that your government can no longer track you?

And, all the promises you made last year were just empty words?

So I just want to apologize to all forum members that I have lied about something. I was afraid that my account will get banned, and I won't be able to access this forum again.
~
I promise to all the mods that this won't happen in the future. Please don't ban me. I am really sorry. Again!
352  Economy / Reputation / Re: What is going on??? on: January 05, 2024, 02:17:39 PM
I just downloaded a vpn extension called touch vpn on chrome just to test that. Just because i said that means i was using that all along? Come on...

And thats another blatant lie. You really cant help yourself, can you?  Cheesy

Just a few months ago, you claimed that you were regularly accessing the Bitcointalk forum through a VPN (you even purchased a subscription) because you were worried about your government tracking you.

Recently there are some news and new law for the usage of cryptocurrency. If found guilty of owning or being involved with crypto, you could get into jail. Even right now, I am accessing the Bitcoin forum with a VPN. I don't know what will happen if they track me now. But it is always smart to take proper caution. Trying to stay away from any troubles. So right now VPN is the best option I guess.

Bitcoin is illegal and banned where I live. So it is not possible to buy something using Bitcoin/crypto here. But I have purchased something using Bitcoin but it wasn't that weird. I have bought two stuffs. One is a subscription for express VPN and another is for an antivirus called kaspersky. ~
353  Economy / Reputation / Re: What is going on??? on: January 05, 2024, 01:25:08 PM
I have checked the time-changing issue. I have set the time manually also used VPN and then reverted everything to normal. Despite all of this, the forum time remains the same. It is embedded in the forum which can not be changed by using something from outside. Not just you but if anyone want's to try, they can do it. Just saying.

So you are using a VPN? You see, thats why your IP proof means nothing. Anyone can change their IP address whenever they want. And thats probably what happened when you planned all this, but for some reason you changed your mind and now you claim that your account was hacked.  How convenient.

Of course, there is a remote possibility that you are telling the truth, but as I stated earlier, I still have no reason to trust you, given your prior record of lying and cheating on this forum. Just saying...
354  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralize Bitcointalk on: January 05, 2024, 12:46:36 AM
Generally, decentralized applications are lighter in weight
Do you honestly believe that BTC is lighter compared to ECB SEPA payments (Target2 ledger)?

BTC has to broadcast the transaction to every node, while ECB uses a single centralized computer to process the transaction.

We don't use BTC because it's lighter or cheaper. Revolut offers SEPA instant payments for €0, while BTC is way more expensive and slower: https://mempool.space/

I am not talking about BTC, which was a decentralized protocol that had its initial infrastructure built in 2008-2009. There's no point talking about Bitcoin as a modern decentralized application and at that, it is not even a decentralized application, it is an entire blockchain, built on an infrastructure that is not relevant to what we are talking about, being a forum application with more decentralization than what is current.

So to answer your question, no, I do not believe that BTC is lighter than other solutions because I am already aware that there are many more solutions that are much more efficient.

Payments was never a topic here. Using technology similar to that of Bitcoin to decentralize Bitcointalk was never a discussion here until you introduced it. Why people are thinking that we need to use technology similar to Bitcoin to power a decentralized version of this forum is beyond me, as the two are not even closely similar in their core use cases.

I think you may be misunderstanding the point. He mentioned Bitcoin as an example of a sufficiently decentralized network compared to other payment networks. He is correct, though. A decentralized network can never be "lighter" than a centralized infrastructure. Why else do you think the entire internet is built on a simple client-server basis? The concept of decentralized networks wasnt invented yesterday, you know?  And you are probably confusing the concepts of a decentralized network with a distributed network, which can be "lighter" with proper load balancing.

Plagiarism is a serious offense in the forum, and it might cause you to be permanently banned and will lost your chances to be part of the forum.
~

I believe you may have misunderstood the topic.  This is about copyright infringement, not plagiarism.  While plagiarism often leads to copyright infringement, copyright infringement doesnt always involve plagiarism.
For example, if you use a copyrighted photo in your commercial product, you may be infringing on the photographer's copyright, even if you cite the original source. You didnt try to pass it off as your own, just used it without permission.  Plagiarism is more about not citing sources and acting like you wrote something yourself when you did not.

I looked at examples you posted and I would not fully trust what those members are saying.

Exactly. Just because someone claims their account was hacked doesnt mean its true. That tjtonmoy character looks particularly suspicious. He has a history of lying and cheating in contests and bounties. I do not believe in his story.

Besides, I have things to say about Bitcoin.

You are so full of yourself it is ridiculous. You think your opinion is so important that everyone should care what you have to say? Newsflash, not everyone is interested in hearing from a narcissistic, egotistical shithead who cant even string a sentence together without using foul language or personal insults. If you want people to respect your opinion, try being more respectful and less self-absorbed. Of course people are questioning your education. Look around you, educated people know how to communicate properly. You obviously do not.

The reason I insult stupid people like you is because stupid people like you are f@#$ing stupid. If you question my education, I will call you out on your stupidity. I do not respect the people who do not deserve it. People who question my education despite plenty of evidence that I do in fact have a Ph.D. in Mathematics are STUPID.

Thank you! You just proved my point.

And, here is another brilliant example of your profound wisdom and intellectual prowess:

https://ninjastic.space/post/62933000

Does this sound like something an educated person would say? Truly, you are an inspiration to us all.

I was introduced to bitcointalk and I don't know much about cryptocurrencies; please advise me on what I should do to learn more about bitcoin. Please send me a link that will walk me through the process so that I don't run into any complications when I start my investment.

So, let me get this straight. You say you dont know much about cryptocurrencies... But it seems contradictory that your first post on the Bitcointalk forum, despite your limited knowledge, encouraged others to invest in crypto.

Crypto investment is preferred. Is a the best way to get profit as long as you make long-term investments. I believe real estate investments are not as rewarding as crypto investments.

Can you elaborate on that? Are you really a newbie, or are you just pretending to get some sympathy from the community?

I am selling vistomail.com and a bunch of other domain names owned by Satoshi Nakamoto.

None of these domains were ever owned by Satoshi. You need to stop lying!
