Basically, many altcoins with some good history are rising too.  Wink

Except LTC and PPC  Shocked  Nxt price has been very steady which is good to see.

Yeah, completely stagnant  Roll Eyes

LOL

Anyone selling right now isn't paying too much attention.

They will buy back much higher.

Unfortunately this is true for the entire Crypto market, starting with Bitcoin.

with a in wallet payment system i mean, users should be able to buy and sell sias in wallet without an exchange. you could implement a small marketplace for users to buy and sell sia via paypal for example.

Can't do it, that would almost certainly violate the paypal TOS, and even if it didn't it would probably violate money laundering laws. We can't help people go from usd to crypto. There are too many very-high-barrier regulations.

Down the line though, we should be legally able to help people go btc<->siacoin. Some hosts/nodes will have both btc and siacoin and will serve as market makers, you can then use payment channels to trade with them. That's a long way down the line.

Like any major new technology, there are going to be barriers to entry and it's going to take time to bridge them. It's something that's heavily on our minds, but it doesn't matter how easy it is to get siacoins if the storage platform isn't very useful (if say, you're limited to 500mb files and can only upload 1 file at a time). So our biggest focus is making something that people will want to use. If it's worth the pain of getting siacoins, then that says great things about the platform and its future. The barriers to crypto are slowly being removed (Coinbase just announced an instant exchange platform, for example), and everyone benefits from that.

We'll be doing our part in the coming months, but our immediate goal is to make the storage platform better. Without a worthwhile storage platform, we're just another altcoin.

Contact Shapeshift, that would be a really easy way for people to get Sia without registering for an account.  Of course, you will probably need to be on an exchange before they would implement.

Thanks for the explanation.  One thing I'd like to know is how would I buy Sia coins after launch?  Will there be an official exchange?
348  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Launches June 7th, 2015 on: May 29, 2015, 02:41:04 AM
The amount that we can scale is limited by the amount of data we can put on the blockchain. Using a lot of payment-channel style optimizations, we can get somewhere between 20k and 1 million users to fit on Sia given the current technology stack. Once we're over 1 million users, we'll have to find something else.

Can you elaborate on this?

I think what many people fail to see in regards to Ripple is that companies like Seagate aren't interested in using Ripple or XRP, but rather using the Ripple protocol for their own internal private blockchain.

Why do you need an internal blockchain if you can already leverage centralization? Presumably Seagate trusts their own servers.

Because they would rather host their own ledger than use Ripple's centralized ledger.  Why they are actually wanting to use a blockchain is beyond me.
350  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Sia - Decentralized Storage - Working Beta - Launches June 7th, 2015 on: May 21, 2015, 05:43:53 PM

Apparently Ripple also just did a $28m seed round, which is pretty incredible, especially considering that their valuation has tanked recently.

It's good to see the Seagate is interested in Blockchains. Often times when one big company switches technologies, the others feel a lot of pressure to do the same. That could end up being very beneficial for Sia.

I think what many people fail to see in regards to Ripple is that companies like Seagate aren't interested in using Ripple or XRP, but rather using the Ripple protocol for their own internal private blockchain.  Basically a clone of Ripple that is maintained and updated by Ripple Labs.  Ripple clone is fast and easy for a private centralized solution.  A lot of people think that Seagate will be buying and using XRP, which is so far from the truth.  Sidechains is trying to offer a similar solution whereas companies can have their own private (bitcoin clone) blockchains but with the huge advantage of pegging/communicating with the masterchain (bitcoin) which would be a huge in my opinion.

I like Sia because it's offering a new and unique solution in the crypto market, not just another "coin" with promises.

You should have posted a picture of your girlfriend wearing the same t-shirt...

Where is this guy? After months of taunting us to post the white paper, and we do, he disappears.

I actually miss CfB some.  He was kind of funny.

Working on Jinn.

Taun give it a rest.

NEM a scam?!   Huh

I'm curious - when did you turn on NEM and why? I dont check the board as often as I used to and am genuinely curious.  I thought you were a huge NEM fan.

He was a fan, until his sock account stakes were removed in the last cleansing before launch.

Taek, would be great if you can produce a redemption list, just so we can confirm our transfers went through prior to launch.

Sounds like a good idea, we should also make an FAQ. It will take me a few days to pull that together, look for it on Tuesday.

Great, thanks.

Is there a defined redemption period for Sianotes?  Also, do you guys have a marketing plan on launch?  Might make sense to get the word out.

The redemption period currently established is 6 weeks from the initial announcement. We have to check with lawyers to see if this is a legally acceptable period. We intend on being generous with people who miss the deadline but a hard legal deadline must be set so that we do not have potential obligations floating around for an infinite period of time. Therefore we hold no obligation to redeem sianotes beyond 6 weeks from the initial announcement.

Marketing plan:

We plan on making a new thread for Sia on bitcoin talk, altcoin talk, the nxt forums, and we plan on making a post on both reddit and hacker news. With this announcement we're going to distribute the next iteration of the beta (we're in the final stages of pulling it together). We are going to announce a target date for the official launch of the currency. We'll probably try to get ourselves added to calendars and such.

The beta is finally at a point where I feel comfortable trying to generate a lot of buzz. We're in the middle of pulling everything together (including the announcements) right now.

Okay, well I'd change the OP of the thread as well as the title to: Sia (Redemption Deadline *Data*)

Sounds good on Marketing, I would also recommend reaching out to Cointelegraph and other web publications.

360  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: May 11, 2015, 05:17:02 PM
Gold is tangible asset. Hard to convince older generation to hold bitcoin.

Many of the older generation hold paper gold in their brokerage accounts and have no problem with that.  I believe once "paper" BTC is readily available on the market, the older generation will have no problem investing some amount.
