1021  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Transparent mining 2, or What part of Legacy should be left behind on: February 18, 2014, 02:33:19 AM
I still think NXT is made for the people and should address their very personal needs like supporting the family, financial security, legal certainty and the like. This is even more important in case somebody dies.

In NXT nobody should trust anybody. But people need trust. So, what I have in mind would be decentralized notary (DN). A third party bound by cryptography and algos.

An account holder could tell the DN to sign something and to do something for him in a pre-defined future:
 - to pay amount xi to some accounts
 - to send encrypted messages to certain accounts in order to reveal knowledge
 - to execute a script
Everything the DN does is invisible to everybody except those how own the keys.

Use-cases could be:
 - when a father wants to hand down his fortune to equal parts to his two sons
 - signing documents like contracts, birth certificates etc.
 - when a real-world corporation changes leadership

BCNext said: Trust nobody.

That's certainly the best advice somebody could give. However, another smart guy told me this:

In the end, you have to trust somebody.

This would be a great idea, do you have the know how to develop?

Dear supporters,

I want to talk with you about the future of Nxt.org. I'm working with Passion_ltc together to make this website the center for the whole Nxt ecosystem.

We have many great ideas for the website, but before we start we need to talk about something inconvenient: the money.

I paid 157,000 NXT and 6 BTC for the domain. A few guys maybe are thinking that this is far too much, but I don't think so. With Nxt.org we finally have a quality domain for a quality product, and if we consider that Nxt will be the future of money then the money was well spent!

2Kool4Skewl asked on nextcoin.org about acquiring the domain. And I'm pretty sure that someone said there was a bounty for this domain.

So I want to ask you if someone knows more about the bounty. Maybe I could get a nice sum of the money back though this?

Thank you very much!

Greetings,
BitVenturer

Quote
According to my calculations if each one of this account (http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=34)
will pay at least 30K nxt from his balance, it will be 1.8M NXT, I think its a fair price

Just give the community the domain for 157,000 NXT and 6 BTC. Maybe a little premium on top. But that's it.

The community didn't appreciate the fact that I got the name, my effort and resources...
You think that the name doesn't cost 1.8M ?
"Community" != "Customer"

I'll give you 250k and donate the domain back to the community.

Charity Project

Please add (not sure if this would be considered a project, however, it is essential for the next wave of marketing):

Nxt Charity – Songs of Love
Goal: $10k in Nxt (approx. 170k)

Charity Details:

http://www.songsoflove.org/

“The Songs of Love Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing personalized songs for children and teens currently facing tough medical, physical or emotional challenges, free of charge.”
The Songs of Love Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization

Escrow:
Marketing lead Salsacz will hold the funds in escrow at this address:

Added Bonus:
If we raise $10k or more, we’ll be official sponsors for the Songs of Love Charity LA Benefit located here:
https://www.songsoflove.org/LA/

Look at that lineup, live performances by Grammy nominated artists such as Blue Cantrell.  Helping kids while getting a massive amount of press coverage is just a golden opportunity for our community. Imagine the press coverage we’ll get before the (emailing our 200+ media contacts), during and after event. The right thing to do is a win/win for everyone.

Action:

Salsa will hold coins in escrow and then transfer them to the charity.

CoinTropolis is starting the party off with 10k Nxt.

Additional:
We’re already developing press releases and building strategies around this event.

I think its a great cause, but I don't see this as being very relevant to our target market whatsoever.  Its a charity cause, which I think is good, but I don't see it bringing any new people to Nxt. I've never heard of Songs of Love or Blue Cantrell.  I'm not trying to be negative, but I don't see the relevance, especially for $10k.  Plus on their main site they have a bunch of crypto's listed, so it doesn't seem like a very unique opportunity.

I'd be happy to address it since this is one of my specializations. If you want to break mainstream news, you need to give writers a story. In our own Nxt bubble, it's easy to get frustrated about the lack of coverage we get when we send out news... but to be honest, that's just not how the world works. Dogecoin understands this intimately with their recent charity drives and news.  I've made the phone calls (my experience can be tracked through both Feathercoin and Peercoin) and it's always the same thing... they want something big to write about.

There's a reason professional poker focused so much on charity events as it fought to become more mainstream. The goodwill generated from events like this make life much easier for PR teams.  If this community decides to pass on it, that's fine.. but it's a mistake from an ROI perspective. It's not about the event, it's about everything around it.

As for Blue Cantrell, well, that's entirely different point. While I appreciate (and live) geek culture, mainstream news that covers mainstream audiences is exactly who I would like to target.

Check my history with Sunny King with Peercoin, I know what I'm talking about in this realm. Either way, I appreciate the consideration.

I still don't get it, maybe its just me but I see no results from this.  I mean the website lists "hobocoin" as a donation option, this isn't a creative or unique opportunity to spread the word.  We don't need this kind of marketing at this point, and your response didn't address my first post at all.

Yes, we should add more to the list if needs be.  I think we should give QBTC 100k now for Nxtcrytp site and to keep everything up and running.  Passion when Nxtvote is fully operational.  l8orre when the asset exchange is released (should be soon).
What features do you want for NXTvote? It is already fully operational. Smiley

When I wrote that you were still working out bugs, I realize its fully operational and definitely deserve a bounty.

nxt.org news:
the domain name nxt.org have been auctioned with 1,3537 USD recently on Sedo platform .
http://news.domain.cn/html/yumingzixun/2014/0207/31292.html

bougt by Nxt community?

They declined my $1,000 offer three weeks ago. Maybe this was their trigger to auction it...

"Thank you for contacting Pool.com customer service.

I did submit your offer to our client but they've declined. They confirmed they do have plans to develop a site using this name and for that reason they have it valued at a higher amount. They did not provide any counter offer. "

Liars Smiley

Your offer was FAR to low. Wink It's a 3 letter domain which makes sense. Wink

Namescout transferred the domain to Pool after several members here expressed interest.  They then sold the domain under the premise of a private seller who had the name on backorder.  It's a scam they've done before as I'm very familiar with Pool.  Namescout and Pool are owned by the same company.  Domains typically take 2-3 months after the expiration to be released by registrar, but in this case it was transferred to Pool several days before it was even expired.  I'm guessing it was sold for $12k range.

If the MIT/Johns Hopkins folks can't/won't do your Crypto/Curve25519 audit for the bounty, I would have time later this month to do it (I'm DoctorEvil on Nextcoin.org BTW).

I already reviewed the primary literature on Curve25519/ECKCDSA, examined several implementations of both and am working on a clean room implementation of the relevant algorithms myself just to make sure I understand them 100%.  As a bonus I'd make my extra implementation part of the deliverable.  My implementation wouldn't be meant to replace the existing highly optimized one.  However, since it's aim would be comprehensibility/correctness as opposed to speed, it would make writing ports easier.

Given my pseudonymous identity, I can't present credentials other than my online reputation ... so depending on exactly what the community wants out of this audit, there is that to consider.

Hi NXTers!

NXT's greatest competitor seem to be Ethereum. It's main feature that NXT still lacks is scripting, which is a wonderful idea (along with it's risks of course) - kudos to Vitalik and his team for bringing this up!

Because I want NXT to be competitive and because this is a great feature on it's own, I decided to personally fund a team led by CIYAM and CfB (as long as he is with us), to implement this technology in NXT too!

The code will be open sourced when the feature is finished and extensively tested.
We will use a private github repo if others want to easily review the source during development.

Let the good times roll!

Damn that is good news.

By the way: Nxtchg's site is for sale: https://nxtchg.com/sale.php

Someone might want to take it over.

Anyone want to front me the 10btc for it? I'll run it at 1% fee and split it with you until you have your investment doubled.

Deal?

Sure. PM me and I'll get on it tomorrow, going to bed now.

If someone wants to write up an overview of what exactly we need for the crypto auditing, I can send it to a few Crypto experts I've been in contact with.  Just PM me.

Please, CfB, help with that.

Edit: what kind of 'experts'?

I've been in contact with several people, including Matt Green (zerocoin).  I was originally referred to Matt by Susan Waters (http://cs.jhu.edu/~susan/) who was his professor, and Susan also recommended Lisa Yin in the same email.  I've had contact with Lisa and she sounds open to an audit.  Lisa has a PHD from MIT in Crypto.  I have contact with a few other academics as well.

Right, Lisa. I remember (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=345619.msg4989534#msg4989534). Well, what do you think, CfB?

Any update on this?

Not on my end.

Not trying to sound bossy, but you should have your NXT acct in your sig. This is critical stuff.

vs., say, bulldoge/puppydoge/underdoge/wolfe Smiley

Why?  I don't need donations.

We have the original c implementation by djb - let some cryptographers (dmitry was no crypto guy!) port it for us!

The bug was in original c version. The port by dimitry is just fine.

I know one thing: we still need a cryptographer for auditing!

I may be the only one, but I think going after Doge with BullDoge is weak.  We don't need to be spending our energy focused on Doge.  Doge is awesome, they are our friend, we need to focus on developing advanced features to further adoption of Nxt.  As a pure marketing campaign, I do like the idea of a coin built on top of Nxt with Memes of course, the key to humor is to make fun of yourself, not someone else.

1038  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 12, 2014, 05:08:12 PM
Agreed. But don't you think we need to differentiate between fixed/dynamic assets?
There's no point, as all assets are issued and backed by some entity (human or a company). You either trust the issuing entity or you don't.

Not sure if this has been put to rest, but I think it would be great when issuing an Asset if you could elect "Fixed" or "Dynamic" and that F or D would be shown in the list of Asset's.  If it's fixed, you are unable to issue any more assets.

Bugger me....is this the end of the thread?

It's always mind-blowing to miss a few days in NXT world, then catch up.
Err....what can I say about the last 60 pages?

Plenty, obviously.

@jl777 *hug* Good to have u back in the boat.....
BCNext said something like do not worry about NXT being popular (or valuable). Build a digital economy using NXT. People will use the things we can build with NXT. NXT is like the roads, plumbing and wiring. Not really stuff most people get excited about. We need to build the stores, buildings, movie theatres, even farms (like POPPP has) using NXT. Most people wont know or care that they are using NXT, but of course some people will realize the value of NXT is related to the sum of the value of all the things that can be built on top of NXT.

postplusplus

Asset Exchange/TestNet. AE has gone from an idea to a near reality over the last month. NXT rocks, it's such an amazing eco-system.
While I had a cold I went looking into mining as a simple distraction for a couple of hours, (got over 300 Noble coin now, YAY!) and what I really noticed is how few crypto's actually have features above and beyond the basic "use it as money" function.
Comng back to this thread is like stepping into the NXT century, when u compare it to most of the competion.

Bitcoin, Schmitcoin......I've stopped worrying about BTC and it's exciting life. There's a crisis every week, so no use getting excited about it. I think that the rise of crypto is simply inevitable, and we are going to see a tipping point very soon. BTC may not be the winner in the long term, but it's going to dominate the next couple of years.....then NXT will take over  Grin

Going to bed, here's the saddest guy in NXT land:
hi Come-from-Beyond

it is not real nxt?

not recevied nxt?

It's not real NXT.

Oh, yeah, and BCNexts 2nd stage...might read that tomorrow.

Always love reading ED's thread summary.
