561  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [NXT] Nxt - Official Thread on: July 09, 2014, 04:00:38 PM

Any specific thoughts/counters to the fears uncertainties and doubts, points described in the article?

It raises some good points, but the whole purpose of crypto currency is to operate outside the restrictions of government policies.  If Nxt started to operate based on US Gov financial policies, I would sell all my Nxt tomorrow.  The goal is to offer more financial freedom/control and eventually become so popular that world governments have no choice but to comply or die.
562  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Sia: Siacoin (scn) and Siastock (stk) on: July 09, 2014, 03:47:10 PM
We aren't sure. I do imagine that we'll be raising a Series A round at some point, which will involve selling a bunch of corporate stock. If the Sianote price is high enough, we may also sell some more Sianotes to fund ourselves. But we are not committing to anything.

Since you are clear to separate Nebulous corporate equity from Sianotes. I think it would be good for investors or others who are interested to understand how much of Nebulous revenue will rely on Siacoins generated by Sianotes that Nebulous controls. Your posts could come across as Sianotes are somewhat of an afterthought and not the main revenue source for Nebulous.  I believe investors want to know that although they don't own part of Nebulous, they do own part of the revenue stream.  i.e. You don't own part of Google, but you do own a % of revenue generated by Google Ads.
563  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: CoinShuffle: Practical Decentralized Coin Mixing for Bitcoin on: July 08, 2014, 05:18:37 PM
The fact is you can get fairly good anonymity simply by putting your coins on an exchange that doesn't require ID, and then transferring it out to an address that you have never used.

But then you're trusting the exchange not to keep logs that link your incoming tx to the outgoing one.

right, this is why if you use an exchange that lies outside of eg. US jurisdiction, they are unlikely to comply with any requests to produce such logs.

This is likely the reason why the American/European currency authorities in particular are always vilifying the Chinese exchanges.  The Chinese exchanges are a doorway in and out of Bitcoin that they don't have any control over.

-bm

But accomplishing this within a client would be a trustless solution and a time saver, so using a 3rd party exchange wouldn't make sense when you could use an internal exchange/shuffle such as the case with Coinshuffle/Nxt.
564  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: CoinShuffle: Practical Decentralized Coin Mixing for Bitcoin on: July 08, 2014, 04:46:35 PM
Has anyone explored other anonymity strategies aside from input/output mixing?

-bm

I think that's the most popular as no one is about to change BTC core to include anonymity at a protocol level.  Do you have any other projects to review?  Input/Output can always be correlated but it would take QC power to do so.
565  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Sia: Siacoin (scn) and Siastock (stk) on: July 08, 2014, 04:28:11 PM
So, we've been holding off on this announcement, but I think we're at a place where we can tell everyone.

We've just signed a $375,000 agreement for 7.5% of the company equity. There's still some paperwork to sign, but we should have the cash by the end of July. Which means we're also about to be hiring one or two full time employees. We need someone who will build the frontend, and will preferably work and live in Boston. We might be able to pick up an MIT graduate. I've got a really good feeling as a whole about our investor, he's had several hit investments and is really interested in seeing Sia succeed.

Another thing that's in progress is that we're going to be involved with the MIT Bitcoin project. We haven't met anyone in person yet but we should be meeting with the guys leading the initiative in the next few weeks.

So, on the business front things are looking good.

Very good news, interested to hear what comes of the MIT project.

Awesome! Not sure, but I think Nxt seems to have the biggest developer team behind it, they really role out one innovation after another  Shocked

If all those innovations prove to be working, which they seem to, maybe Bitcoin can copy some of them.Would be cool!

Not sure about the biggest, but definitely the best looking, which I think is the most important aspect of any dev team.  Anyway, looking forward to coinshuffle on Nxt.
567  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Sia: Siacoin (scn) and Siastock (stk) on: July 05, 2014, 03:46:28 PM
A smart strategy,  if you are able to raise that kind of capital and employ several devs, you can accomplish many things in a short period of time.  This makes sense for Sia as Sia has a more commercial application than other Cryptos.
568  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Sia: Siacoin (scn) and Siastock (stk) on: July 02, 2014, 08:41:26 PM
It seems that Sianotes price has increased more than 30% in term of Nxt and 100% in term of BTC. https://nxtblocks.info/#section/assets_exchange/11593659039925686857

Typical for an alpha release.  Expect much bigger returns when Sia is up and running.
569  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death) on: July 02, 2014, 04:44:06 PM
BTC will continue to be adopted by business/investors/consumers and LTC will not unfortunately. Satoshi's don't allow LTC to be a silver currency. LTC offers nothing new, and the speculation buying is over, you will see some small spikes, but it will indeed die.  I like Charlie Lee, a great guy and appreciate what he's done for Crypto.

Quark, it's already replaced by a new wave of shit alts and will never rise again, it will die a lot faster than LTC along with many other.

Usability rules all, look at Doge and Aurora, even with spectacular marketing, it's going down the toilet.  Big money investors and business always look at usability first.

Nothing will replace BTC as Crypto Gold, POW.  You will see other Crypto's being adopted in different verticals; POS, storage, smart contracts, etc...  But again there will be only one to rule each vertical.  Right now I see Nxt as the POS king.  I see Ethereum as the Smart Contract/Script king.  I predict Sia as the Storage king (not maidsafe), etc...  More verticals will be created and we will hopefully see more innovative Cryptos.  It's a crazy time, but very exciting.

My advice for investors, ride the IPO wave for new alts, then sell and buy a king coin.

I don't buy Cryptos to sell them, I buy Cryptos to use them, I have never sold a Crypto for Fiat (believe it or not), so take my advice as a holder and not a day trader.

Thanks for the update!
571  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PREANN] SMOKE - SMOKE-4 ALGORITHM - New algos (BMW + X) - 50/50 POW POS IPO on: July 01, 2014, 04:37:30 PM
We have just confirmed a verified escrow agent. IPO will be available soon.

+1, would like to see IPO on Nxt AE, would be nice to buy and sell Smoke Shares while you are in development for next 3 months.

I encourage you to update this thread and your blog with Nxt progress.  I appreciate all your work to promote Nxt, keep it up digitalindustry!

His name is the first four and last three digits of his Nxt account number. At some point he posted token to prove ownership. (You can look up his post.)

nxtforum would be a better idea imho

Thanks for the info!

Figured it must be a founder (assuming it's all legit)

I think we should move this discussion to somewhere on nxtforum and see what other people have the interest (and ability)

I am thinking a large project like this would probably take more than one dev. Two might work.
I mean, really, this feature is the Holy Grail of crypto.  Grin

I would want to know who I'd be working with and to speak with whoever is putting up the NXT. The problem with doing such a big bounty like this is there is really nothing keeping the poster honest at the end of the day... It's a big leap of faith for a long project.

I would chat with ChuckOne (https://nxtforum.org/index.php?action=profile;u=140), he seems to be willing and able to work on this project and showed a lot of interest.  I can assure you the bounty is real and legitimate, and would probably be placed in the care of Anon (escrow) once there was some commitment.

Thanks for posting, testing DGS right now, very cool, and of course good to see encrypted messaging!
575  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NXT innovation -gets a special mention at the end of my Crypto educational Blog on: June 30, 2014, 10:57:46 PM
Man, I wish I had the free time to write a lengthy troll OP and respond to countless posts, all in the name of protecting my fellow BTT members from a coin I'm jealous I wasn't part of from the beginning, but instead invested in Quark which is now dead, congrats digitalindustry!
576  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death) on: June 24, 2014, 11:26:08 PM
Other than price speculation, please give me one reason to buy LTC over BTC.  That is why is will die a slow death.
577  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin Is NOT Dead (It Is Just Dying A Slow Death) on: June 23, 2014, 05:27:10 PM
Interesting read, as someone who has never owned LTC, I appreciate a view point from someone who has been a part of the  LTC community for a long time.  Personally I never invested in LTC because I viewed it as purely speculative, so why not just buy BTC.  I don't believe LTC owners are passionate about LTC as a true alternative to BTC (my opinion), they were just buying because they thought it would increase in value and they could sell it for a profit.

My advice for investment, don't buy a coin if you are immediately thinking about an exit strategy.  Buy a coin because you can actually use it as intended (as a currency or whatever).  When BTC was at $2, I would only purchased it because I wanted to buy something that only accepted BTC  Wink, that was a sign that BTC was incredibly undervalued, but I didn't see it at the time.
578  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][XCP] Counterparty - Pioneering Peer-to-Peer Finance - Official Thread on: June 21, 2014, 02:44:59 AM
The NXT forging algorithm is a complete fraud.

Seems below you to post such FUD, by I guess at this point your reputation is lower than you coding skills.
579  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PoS+PoW] eXocoin [EXO]-gen 2.0- dev. from scratch! Give-Away | Open Beta on: June 19, 2014, 06:00:45 PM
If core devs can't get EXO blockchain functional, and need outside help, I'm worried.

EXO probably is not a great coder. He needs a good coder to help him. It seems he is more a crypto architect like BCNext who couldn't make a good software either. Some how, I think EXO might be cunicula. It is a pure guessing.

Give the dev a chance before judging him. He said the wallet would probably not be ready until well after the IPO, and fixing subtle bugs takes time. If he paid other programmers to help they would have to learn all about his code before starting, which would probably take a lot longer than waiting for him to finish it himself.

Yes, of course, I'm not saying it's a dead project, just that personally I'm worried if the core dev can't release a functional/stable blockchain.

sometimes it takes an outsider to see the obvious problem staring in your face Smiley

Maybe, but to me, if you are going to introduce a new crypto, you need to be smart enough to get it working and stable from at least a blockchain level.  Satoshi, BCNext, etc.. accomplished this although their source code was not the prettiest.
