341  Other / Meta / Suggestion - Health index for topics to stop spam megathread/bumping on: November 02, 2018, 12:14:44 AM
In the fake conversion topic I have just mentioned something and I would like to ask for your thoughts in connection with this.
It would be a kind of "heath index" for each topic.
The index would be a %, we should deduct the number of the reported/deleted posts in the topic from the original post count of the topic and it should be divided by the original post count of the topic.
So if a topic has e.g. 100 posts and 2 posts are deleted because of reports, the health index of the forum is  (100-2)/100 which is 98%.
But if we found a bumped topic in the ANN section and it contains 1000 posts, and we report 520 as spam/low quality/copypaste/etc... the health index of the topic would be (1000-520)/1000 which is 48%.
Every topic which has a health index below 50% could get automatically locked to stop the spam megathreads...
In this case, we could deal with bump bots, because now we cannot handle this situation easily... by the time your report will make the bump post delete, the topic gets another bump post, so it's not effective...
Another thing is, if we could arrange the topics by the health index, we could found topics with quality content more easily...
342  Other / Meta / Re: How to deal with bumping via fake conversation? on: November 01, 2018, 11:53:36 PM
If these bots are bumping the treads with posts in every 5-10 minutes, you just won't be able to report (and mods to delete) the posts in time before the next bumping post if I understand it well.
If you report the most recent post, by the time it gots deleted, a new bumping post will come and the whole work with the previous post would worth little because the topic would still be on the top, thanks to the new bump...
We need something else for the bumping bots because pure reporting seems just waste of time and resource...
What happens if we start to deal with topics instead of individual posts?
Let's say if a topic has 100 posts in it and 10 of the posts has been reported (and deleted by a mod), it means it's not a 100% topic, but just 90%. If 50 posts are deleted, the topic is only good for 50%.
If a topic reaches the 50% in reported posts, worth locking or delete or anything...
I know that bumping bots and shills could use this to kill the competitor topics, but in the ANN section this is the same with bumping the first 10 topics, all of the others are nearly killed because people just can't find them on the first few pages...
Just an idea...
343  Other / Meta / Re: Move from Google captcha on: November 01, 2018, 11:25:49 PM
It was many suggestions in past to remove Google ReCaptcha. But can you offer alternative which would be better or similar in terms in security? Even ReVaptcha can be bypassed, I don't even talk about other services like Solvemedia and others.
If you struggling to solve captcha, just use that link which was posted above to bypass ReCaptcha when you login.
And few tips which can help to solve Recaptcha easier:
Log out from your Google account,
Clean Google cookies in your browser,
Use incognito mode,
Get new IP.

Your tips seem somewhat confused.
Recaptcha is from google and google want to track you. To get the fastest captcha solves:
Login to a google account used for daily use
Keep google cookies and history (but it won’t do much they’ll just track you using your MAC address and IP if you delete that stuff).
Google likes to know what you're doing, so if you are logged in and they can track you they will give you fewer or even no captcha if you use a single PC, the same browser and a unique IP address ( OP should check his/her ISP if they give him/her NAT or A level IP addresses)
Another thing is if you don't want to log in into your google account, and if you use private browser tab, google would make it harder to bypass that captcha part of the login process...
344  Other / Meta / Re: Plagiarism or Spam? on: November 01, 2018, 11:17:44 PM
...
And this is my previous reply:
...
...
It's always irritating to realize when someone copies your own thoughts directly without any link to your original posts...
I have also started to report plagiarism after I found out that someone had copied one of my posts...
Since then I'm trying to find copipasters and I also use the above mentioned thread to report them.
Make sure that this is not your last catch, you can help the forum if you report these kind of users when you read thru the topics.
Also don't forget to check the modlog (#1 post in the copypaster thread how to check modlog) if the reported user has been banned and edit your post accordingly.
345  Other / Meta / Re: Meta board flooded by account recovery thread ( ban/locked and hacked account) on: November 01, 2018, 11:09:19 PM
...
Accounts will always be sold here whether we ban them or not, but the best we can do is look at ways at curbing the behaviour and I think letting users purchase more donator ranks like Silver and Gold with the benefits of higher ranks is the way to go. It would pretty much kill account sales because most people aren't going to take the risk of being scammed and all they want the accounts for in the first place is for a larger signature anyway.
...
It could also help the spam situation as well, because if the account farmers won't farm and sell more and more accounts, there will be no need to gather activity (and merit) for the farmed accounts, this means less spam or copypaste posts on every board (but mainly on the mostly infected boards...)
346  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: November 01, 2018, 10:12:58 PM
Let the report wars begin! So hmm first to a million?
With a bot, I could probably make it to a million Cheesy In the altcoin boards it's not that hard to identify spam at 98% accuracy.
...
And if you just don't care to identify spam post and report all the posts in the Altcoin section or in the Off topic section, your accuracy would be still above 90% Tongue
Just kidding Smiley
347  Other / Meta / Re: Reporter Statistics on: October 27, 2018, 11:54:59 PM
Here are my stats (I'm really missing the 100% accuracy, what it used to be at the beginning, but that's life Smiley )
Code:
You have reported 719 posts with 99% accuracy (698 good, 10 bad, 11 unhandled). Do not worry about your accuracy too much; one accurate report is worth many inaccurate reports.
348  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: New Goldman Sachs stable coin. Tether doomed? on: October 27, 2018, 11:43:09 PM
I don't see why people like stable coins, i mean there are many disadvantage including :
...
Looks like this coins might succeed since investor feel their money/investment is safe since it's created by Goldman Sachs and regulated, but i doubt Tether is doomed since any early product/technology which gain popularity shortly after launch won't die easily even if there's better product/technology.
There are 3 kind of people (to oversimplify it):
1 who were involved in crypto before Dec 2017 and they have a clue
2 who were involved in crypto in Dec 2017 or after
3 who don't care at all

I just think about type 2:
they don't really have a clue about cryptos but they see that there's a huge potential in it (and a huge risk of course). They don't know how to deal with cryptos (unlike type 1) so they need a trusted 3rd party to help them manage their investment in cryptos
They will happily use this new USDC, because they will trust their bank (because they already trust their bank in connection with credit cards, loans, other investments etc...), so they don't need a trustless environment, a smart contract based system, they just simply want to invest and earn. Anyway, exchanges are using KYC (those who trade fiat, not only cryptos) so exchanges are not anonymous anymore, it won't be a huge difference if they start to trade USDC or not...

It’s just sitting there right now for anyone to pick up and in the coming days (weeks?) I will provide clues in this thread that will disclose the location of this paper wallet...

Having already spent some valuable time, can you please give clear details in the OP?
Thank you.
You have some time until the end of 2018, so it's possible that some clues, hints are timed for the end of the year, so be patient and if you really want to collect that prize, be prepared for the info, and also double check the topic that you haven't missed any important information.
350  Other / Meta / Re: One thing I want to share about getting merit on: October 25, 2018, 08:46:56 PM
...
My point is when someone gets frustrated and hopeless they post why dont I get merit, If I dont get merit I have no choice but to give up and If I am not wrong they immediately get merit for that post.
...
It's not really working anymore (it has been working in the first few days after the newbie demotion, but not anymore...) If someone wants to give up and leave, the others will be happy because they will have more chance to get merit... merit will find those who are trying hard and creating quality posts, sooner or later
351  Other / Meta / Re: Can we establish a division for posters according to their quality? on: October 25, 2018, 07:59:06 PM
I think that the ignore list function of the forum needs an upgrade.
It could work as a kind of "AD blocker" for the forum, but it would be a "ShitBlocker" or something similar Smiley
Every member could choose if he/she wants to activate it or not, and select from some presets if he/she wants to see more posts or less but quality posts. Of course, if someone likes to read unlimited amount of shitposts, he/she won't activate it, so it's not endanger the freedom of speech here.
Everyone would be free to create his/her own ignore list (I know that this is working right now as well) but everyone would be able to make his/her ignore list public and if someone likes an ignore list, there should be only one click to activate it for himself/herself.

352  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why you keep complaining on: October 24, 2018, 08:08:45 PM
...
This might make it difficult to account recovery topics. But maybe it could just have two pinned posts where each user could put their information to get the account recovered. And another post to complain when their account was banned.
...
This has been mentioned already and I'm really fan of this idea.
This would help Meta to be more easy to read. Now every 2nd or 3rd topic is about locked/banned/hacked account...
There should be one topic for hacked accounts with signed message and one for the rest...

353  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why you keep complaining on: October 23, 2018, 10:14:37 PM
Sorry I dont care about the merit I make this to the people who keep complaining and sorry to my english.
Quote
This is obviously a thread designed by OP to earn merits--both links he provided are to posts he made in other threads.
If you don't care about merit, why do you open a topic in Meta?
Those who are complaining usually read Alt discussion and Off topic, so you would better to move your topic there you could get more visibility by your target audience...
354  Other / Meta / Re: Can we establish a division for posters according to their quality? on: October 23, 2018, 10:07:12 PM
If I understand it well, this could be a percentage indicator. If someone earns more merit than activity in a period, the percentage is above 100%, if someone earns just a few merits while activity count increases rapidly, the percentage is low...
This percentage could be somewhere below the merit count or there's no real need to show this percentage, but the merit count could change color when the above mentioned % is above 25%, above 50%, above 75%... etc... like change from red to orange, yellow, green
355  Other / Meta / Re: The case of one account with no posts and 250 merit on: October 21, 2018, 01:13:38 PM
I just wonder how they are able to remove all the traces.
Normally someone somewhere should qoute you at least once for all those 500 comments.
If they post only in one megathread and it gets deleted is the other option. Crazy...
They just start a new topic in the Off topic section and nobody will care if it will have 500 or more comments...
As soon as it's done, they can delete the posts and nobody will miss those 500 comments...
I always suggest to just totally delete the Off-topic section, because it's a sandbox for the spammers and account farmers... but I know that there are several meaningful posts in it and we just cannot delete those valuable thoughts Tongue
356  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: October 20, 2018, 08:29:45 AM
It was not realy nice to demoted Jr Members... I have a topic for our coin and now i have to pay to display picture again ....  Sad
If you are investing time and effort into creating a new coin, Copper membership (if you mean this by "I have to pay to display picture again") is not a big investment to let you advertise your coin. In this case you don't need to earn merit to become a Jr. member again. But if you post something interesting/meaningful in the forum sooner or later you'll get merit and you can become a Jr. member again without the picture restriction.
357  Other / Meta / Re: How did they get 1000 merits? on: October 19, 2018, 09:12:06 PM
...
Jet Cash also didn't get the 500 merit and I think he was a bit above a hero when the merit system came out (not entirely sure though).
Jet Cash has reached the 1000 merits on his own, the original merit count was 500 for him. He has collected the merits fairly quickly to become a Legendary as far as I remember
358  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: I have over 150 bitcointalk accounts on: October 17, 2018, 08:34:21 PM
It would be usefult if someone could PM the OP for the list of the accounts...
They should be checked one by one...
So from now on if someone is asking about the accounts in PM that could mean that it's just a cheat to get the user IDs to ban them afterwards... or he really wants to buy them... 50% chance Smiley
359  Other / Meta / Re: Seeking reporter badge images on: October 17, 2018, 08:05:51 PM
.....
1 million?
Fucking hell most of us will be dead before we reach that high a number of reports. It’d be cool to eaen a small amount of BTC for successful reporting but it would have to be lese than that. Maybe something like 10,000?
That would cause report spam, like the person who wants to reach 10,000 reports in a few days/week would create spammer bot accounts and the main account will start reporting it. It's alway quick and easy to report something that you know where to search for it...
This would create at least 10,000 additional spam posts to the forum, so let's just stick to the badges and don't offer real value Smiley
360  Other / Meta / Re: Unfair to Jr.Members on: October 16, 2018, 09:54:36 PM
Unfair... not likely... but let's discuss...
I have opened a topic in the Beginner section to help newbies (or demoted jr.s) to earn 1 merit, I've only asked to provide 5 meritable posts from the Bitcoin section, but there were only 2 (!!!!!) applicants in three weeks time...
This clearly means for me that
1. Newbies or demoted Jr.s are not posting in the Bitcoin section but in the Off topic or in the Alt section, or
2. Newbies don't need this kind of help because they can earn the necessary 1 merit for themselves somehow, or
3. They just don't care and they only report their social media participation here, and they don't need that single merit at all, or
4. etc....
So to summarize, merit system works, that's all
