361  Economy / Economics / Re: Greek banks prepare plan to raid deposits - 30% cut! on: July 03, 2015, 11:21:07 PM
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-07-03/greek-banks-considering-30-haircut-deposits-over-€8000-ft-reports

Malicious rumour apparently. Its like watching boxing this!

It's possible that these rumors will become reality within a few days. It happened in Cyprus before. Greece is in serious trouble without continued emergency support from the ECB.

If this happens a second time, it will have an increased psychological impact. Savers all across Europe will take out money from the banks... this could start a chain reaction.
362  Economy / Economics / Re: If banks start to talk about Bitcoin ... on: July 03, 2015, 11:13:32 PM
Yes, it seems that this year banks talks about bitcoin much more than before.
Here is recent update from Hungarian central bank: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1089713.msg11615268#msg11615268
What can we conclude from that?
If banks start to talk about Bitcoin... it's time to buy bitcoin Smiley

Not necessarily - maybe they just want to liquidate their position... Wink

I think the reason banks are starting to talk about Bitcoin is that they are afraid of it. They are afraid that Bitcoin could push them out of business or at least destroy their main sources of income. So they will try to integrate it somehow into their business model. But I don't think they will have much success, because Bitcoin already contains everything the average Joe needs - there not much room for profitable banking services in addition to that.

Regarding the BIG RESET (sorry for not writing it big enough Grin): It will come, but it's difficult to estimate the exact time...

364  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: A remote Bitcoin hacker house? on: July 03, 2015, 10:47:54 PM
Well, that's a remote location for sure. Personally I would prefer a place that has a more rich vegetation, especially some trees.

I think having a Bitcoin HQ is not very compatible with the concept of decentralization that is a core concept of Bitcoin. But that's mostly a naming issue. Call it "Bitcoin retreat facility" and I'm fine with it...

Although one question remains: Who's gonna actually use it? Travel around the world for coding?
365  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: July 03, 2015, 10:35:28 PM

Wink
366  Economy / Economics / Re: Your thoughts on Greece? What's the most likely outcome in your opinion? on: July 02, 2015, 11:30:24 PM
I think sooner or later Greece will leave the Eurozone. They should have done this years ago, because it's the only reasonable way to reduce their debt burden and to become more economically competitive. It's really bad that there isn't a established mechanism for leaving the Euro-club. The current situation has destroyed all trust between the EU and Greece and ignited a lot of anger between people. This is a serious burden for the EU.

Another possible scenario would be the introduction of a parallel currency in addition to the Euro.

I don't know how things will work out - but it won't be pretty. The whole EU is on the verge of collapse (Spain and France as big economies also have serious problems). Only for now the music still plays...
367  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin: A Potential Safe Haven for Greek Citizens? [VIDEO] on: July 02, 2015, 11:20:40 PM
Greeks have problem with their economy not with their currency. Euro is fine as a FIAT can be. They don't need to exchange their currency to Bitcoins like other countries with failed economy and own currency would want. Euro won't collapse over night to have zero value. In this scenario Bitcoin could help individuals to keep their savings in case of emergency. That is all.

Well the Euro might be stable for know, but it's well possible that the Drachma is introduced again. Then Bitcoin would come in handy for storing value without inflation exposure. Of course this would not help their economy at all.

I seriously doubt that Bitcoin is ready for true mass adoption in Greece - most older people will have serious problems understanding the concept. Usability would have to improve first (having a very simple Bitcoin hardware device would be of great help). That said, there will be adoption by younger people for sure.
368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can you mine bitcoins with a toaster? YES you can! on: July 02, 2015, 11:12:25 PM
A few weeks ago a Bitcoin-lightbulb was presented...now I really hoped to see the first genuine bitcoin-miner-toaster-combi. I'm a bit disappointed... Huh Wink

Of course the question is: Would it be technically possible to have chips that generate enough heat to toast without ruining the hardware?

370  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gregory Maxwell threatens to sell his bitcoins and find other things to work on on: May 31, 2015, 10:57:52 PM
Increasing the block size is the most simple change, lightning network and side chain just sounds too complicated to be easily maintained, raised level of complexity is the worst enemy for long term sustainability

You take it for granted that a change is needed now, but that's not true: https://medium.com/@allenpiscitello/there-is-no-crisis-20b58e14b09c

Decentralization is much more important than microtransactions, because the former is the foundation of value for Bitcoin.
371  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Blockstream the reason why 4 core developer won´t increase the blocksize? on: May 31, 2015, 10:53:05 PM
Op's proposition is an ad hominem attempt to occlude the valid objections against Gavin's and Hearn's "rush-it-now" blocksize increase.

People should read and think:

372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Core or XT? POLL on: May 31, 2015, 10:46:20 PM
All those who blindly follow Gavin and Mike will regret it.

When reading most of the comments here I feel the same atmosphere of group delusion like back in the days when the Bitcoin Foundation was started...

People should at least read and think:

https://medium.com/@allenpiscitello/there-is-no-crisis-20b58e14b09c

Bitcoin will not break when the block limit is reached. Gavin and Mike are creating FUD to enforce their specific agenda for Bitcoin when they say that a block increase is urgent.

373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gavin Threatens to Quit Bitcoin Development and Join Hearn's Fork on: May 30, 2015, 02:32:53 PM
Gavin's actions come as no surprise to me, because he's the founding father of The Bitcoin Foundation. He obviously likes to grab for power instead of reaching consensus on a sound solution.

There have been far better proposals to implement a sliding block size increase based on demand. Proposals which are much more likely to reach consensus among developers than a 20 MB step function, because they are more sound. Meanwhile, hitchhiking on Gavin/Hearn-BitcoinXT (marketed to public mainly as a "solution" for max_blocksize) come other changes which where previously rejected by other developers, because they weaken security.

I will not support this power grab. I will not support the GavinHearnCoin-fork.

And nobody actually read his post.

This is the biggest amount of FUD I have seen in a long time.

374  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: Bitcointalk ist wieder zurück. on: May 25, 2015, 09:28:31 PM

375  Local / Deutsch (German) / Re: Zwei schwache Veranstaltungen zum Thema Bitcoin in Berlin on: May 25, 2015, 09:25:26 PM

376  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: TTIP - ich will das nicht ! on: May 01, 2015, 01:34:53 PM

377  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: April 27, 2015, 09:56:34 PM

Cheesy

Wink
378  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: April 18, 2015, 03:05:16 PM
I would consider joining, if I didn't need to register and you would be paying to an address I'm controlling.

Is this possible?

(Call me paranoid, but I don't trust campaigns that require payout requests instead of paying directly. There are examples of abusing this practice in the past.)
379  Economy / Economics / Re: What would happen if Bitcoin used an S-curve for Bitcoin inflation? on: April 16, 2015, 02:05:30 PM
If Satoshi had used an S-curve allowing a slow release at first instead of large dumps of Bitcoins, would it have seemed more fair to those that shout "EARLY ADOPTERS ARE ELITISTS!" and only now would 50 BTC blocks be offered?

Life is never fair.

The question is if a different release scheme would have triggered sufficient participation in the first place. Why start mining now, when you get less reward today than in the future?
380  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Africa May Leapfrog Traditional Banking on: April 10, 2015, 01:51:23 PM
When the M-Pesa / Kipochi partnership was first launched, there were lots of interest, and it seemed that BTC will capture quite a lot of market share. But now it seems that things have cooled down a bit.

Unless African population is educated to use internet & smart phone, bitcoin has no future over there.

I disagree. I think the key is to offer more simple Bitcoin services that do not rely on internet & smart phones but on SMS service instead.

The problem is not that African people are not educated to use smart phones the problem is that simple cell phones are cheaper and more readily available (also in terms of infrastructure).
