POOL NOTICE:

I really wish everyone would use the latest version of CGMINER, every other miner in one way or another spam/flood server sockets the longer it runs so I am currently looking at where it peaks to set connection limits.

I cant seem to figure out how to update CGminer on BAMT! If anyone has a guide i would really appreciate it!
Thanks Smiley

So, let me get this right : what is going to happen when the ASIC pulls up and all these bonds will be totally worthless ?

Can you upgrade to say a 500 mhash/s bond then when the speeds are measured in TH/s instead of GH/s ?

Thanks !

Hi bulanula,

Please see the quote below for clarification.

Best regards,
gigavps

That being said, I am considering creating a new security, where holders of gigamining could volunteer to upgrade their gigamining bonds to the new bond, plus a fee. This would both keep the existing gigamining contract intact and would allow for an upgrade path for those interested in doing so.

All of this is still many months away, so until then, gigamining will remain at 5Mh/s. When the mini rigs arrive, we will still celebrate with 110% coupon payments for three weeks. Looking beyond, gigamining will continue to be both the largest and best perpetual mining bond in existence.

Thank you for the clarification gigavps. Very professional and fast response !

Also the upgrade plan sounds very promising in light of the coming ASICs.
386  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 19, 2012, 11:30:18 PM
Because they will find something else more profitable. Spamming, pw hash breaking whatever.

Good point.

Sending Nigerian spam is much more profitable than mining say 0.1 BTC a day when ASIC hits !
387  Other / Off-topic / Re: Now we know my posts about ASICs were correct on: June 19, 2012, 11:27:09 PM
So, wait, the argument is that because ASICs are a single-use device they can't be profitable? This argument kind of falls apart when you realize that for 99% of the people buying them, FPGAs are also single-use devices. Sure, you could do other things with them, but the majority of miners don't have the knowledge, skill or any kind of application to throw their FPGAs at anything but mining.

+1 been saying this all along; FPGA for mining is only good if you can later sell it for a reasonable price after having paid it off.
NOBODY will buy FPGA from you for other purposes most likely because it does not have RAM or good I/O pins.
With introduction of ASIC all FPGA really become useless because nobody wants it ( for mining or otherwise ).
At least GPU you can sell on eBay for gaming or something.

OP is just butthurt ( I have to say this : like TONS of other GPU miners with cheap electricity on the forumz ) that his GPU farm is worthless.

Either surrender to BFL or get out of the game !

Nobody can stop change / ASIC ...

389  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASICs vs BOTNETS on: June 19, 2012, 11:08:44 PM
So I've heard there are botnets running lots of hash. Are there any confirmed major hash sources that are botnets?

Based on the hash of the botnets, they are making a killing, and there's nothing we can do about it, however if/when the ASIC rolls out in force, the botnets will no longer be a significant portion of the hash.

This stands to gain (ASIC) players an even higher % of the pie.

What Say Ye? Vote Above

I still don't get it : why would they stop hashing when it costs them a grand total of 0 to keep going ?

Inconvenience perhaps ?
390  Other / Off-topic / Re: Butterfly Labs ASIC Gear Potential on: June 19, 2012, 11:03:55 PM
They will make a lot of money back during that short window, but no where near the cost of the device. I believe, by buying this equipment, we're all just shooting each other in the foot.

Why do you think people will not make their money back. If you are one of the first to the table (timing is crucial here I think) mining at 1TH/s should recoup your $30,000 pretty quick even if the reward is halved to 25 and the difficulty starts to ramp up. Like I said calculations may be wrong but it does seem like their is an opportunity here

Considering they will release more then one at once.  Global hashrate doubles, you'll make half your guess with 1TH/s.  1 week goes by (2016 blocks found) and difficulty increases astronomically.  Goodluck!

When I plug the numbers, at Double the Difficulty and Half the reward the gear would still be repaid ($30,000) in 30 days

Did you account for the difficulty rising twice (possibly 3 or even 4 times) during that period?

When companies order chips like these, they arrive all at once..  If BFL has any common sense, they will flood the market with these things so everyone has a 'chance' at getting the first 1TH/s machine.  Then everyone will complain that their ROI has risen back to 2 years.

1 month gross rates for 1TH/s at $6.38 exchange rate

At present difficulty and 25 reward  - $62850.86 USD
Double the Difficulty 25 reward - $31425.43 USD
Triple the Difficulty 25 reward - $20950.29 USD
Quadruple the Difficulty 25 reward - $15712.71 USD

It still seems to me that even as the difficulty ramps up if you are one of the first to market that you will enjoy a good rate of return until the field equalizes. So your actual return over the first 6 months would probably be a sliding scale of upward difficulty but your initial investment seems like it should be paid off rather quickly

Imagine you had access to this miracle product. Why would you sell it?

Because BFL knows there is not enough money to be made in mining.

The depth / market is simply not enough / ready.

Imagine dumping $3 million USD now to recoup ASIC costs = price will surely tank to like below $1 SURELY.

Selling miners instead of mining passes that risk to the miners.

Miners are betting on price increase and diff staying same. BFL does not need to bet on anything as they are providing the tools to mine !

I wonder if anyone realizes that people with functioning brains design these products with their features, ON PURPOSE.

Shocking, I know... But true. Tongue

No way, the metal casing was just a design feature to make it look expensive. Plastic looks cheap Tongue

Does the trade in for value apply if we acquire singles on the used market? EG if I own 20 singles bought from another miner, will I get $599 each in trade-in?

YES !

Please ignore all of Bulanula's posts.
He is correct though...

I do realize that, but over 70% of the time he is trolling, I just wanted to say that.

Who is that? His is profile says Scammer and he has all xxx's instead of coins??

Smart1985 overpaid Bulanula by 22.5 BTC for something, and Bulanula refuses to give the money back. That's why he got the "scammer tag" (X's instead of coins, and a label saying 'SCAMMER'.)

And this is why Theymos won't let me be an admin. I would have banned him and requested that Smart1985 file a police report and send me a copy.

Why the hate DiabloD3 ? For the record, I never use your crappy software ... I use cgminer like a man !

Also, funny none of you mention I was going to pay the guy back initially but he did not wait and just started attacking me before I even had chance to respond. I offered service ( what he paid for ) instead of refund after the attack and DDOS on me. Instead of service he wanted refund and since I would not give it to him after he attack me he resort to giving me scammer tag on here by bribing admins because he was VIP big boss dude.

Also, tons of good deals in the community and earlier here than most of you May 10 2011 ... but whatever.

Anyway, no need to derail the thread with my scammy Nigerian ways so carry on !

Feel free to file 1 million police reports because nobody cares about WOW gold and he gave me the coins himself ( I did not force him to send anything ).

Sorry for my ignorance but has ANYONE received a mini rig in the wild ?

I saw gigavps posted pictures of them in BFL office but I need to see one in somebody's home to believe it.

Several units are already en route. I guess you'll hear from the clients tomorrow (or even today).

Regards,
BF Labs Inc.

Nice ! Another success from BFL.

Kudos to you BFL !

Thanks...

No problem. People can remember me as one of the original BFL bashers and naysayers.

Even I have revised my opinion seeing how your company has improved over time. And to think I was once a huge critic ...

I am confident we will see the ASIC very soon indeed.

397  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [FOR SALE (JOKE/POINT)]: Casascius MICKEY MOUSE DOLLARS on: June 19, 2012, 07:15:46 PM
Based on market rates, I'd say a MtGox USD is ~0.95 a real USD.

The market rate of a MyBitcoin BTC was 1.00 BTC the moment before MyBitcoin started delaying withdrawals, meanwhile its actual value was no greater than 0.49 BTC.  The correction that brought the market and actual values in sync with one another was swift and unforgiving.

If you think about it though, just like a fractional reserve bank, MyBitcoin with only 49% capitalization could have continued to operate up until the point that >51% of the depositors demanded their money simultaneously, which could have been virtually never.  Meanwhile, they could have introduced advertising and premium features as a revenue source.  Question to ponder: if they did that instead of closing up shop, would we no longer consider MyBitcoin a scam?  Would Bitcoin Magazine have listed MyBitcoin in the successes column, instead of the failures?

Very true mate ! They should have pretended nothing happened and just use some of the BTC to invest in pirate to get 100% back again !
