384  Bitcoin / Press / [2024-02-22] Euronews: Which yielded more in the last decade: Bitcoin or a house on: February 25, 2024, 06:14:39 PM
Nice little article citing British estate agency "Foxtons" that published that London's property market was such a great investment over the last decade that only 2 types of investments yielded higher returns: Bitcoin and Gold. I have my doubts if this is true though. It looks like they discarded any other cryptocurrencies in their analysis and probably limited it to major indices etc (ignoring any individual stocks etc).

One of the comments made me chuckle:
"Good luck cashing in your Bitcoin, pretty sure most banks won't touch the stuff with a long pole."
I'm not sure if this was a joke or are there still people out there thinking this is true.

Which yielded more in the last decade: Bitcoin or a house in London?

https://www.euronews.com/business/2024/02/22/which-yielded-more-in-the-last-decade-bitcoin-or-a-house-in-london

Quote
The most famous crypto yielded almost 5,000% over the last decade.

London's property market has proved to be one of the best bets for investment over the past 10 years, with a yield of more than 44%, according to a new market analysis by British estate agency Foxtons.

The estate agent analysed the performance of the UK capital's residential property market against nine other popular investment options, including Bitcoin and the FTSE 100. It found that only two investment assets have delivered higher return on investment over the past decade.

It is hard to beat the breathtaking 4,963% yield Bitcoin has seen in that 10-year period. The cryptocurrency had an average value of $840.3 in December 2013 which swelled to $42,544 in the period up to December 2023.

Meanwhile, gold - the safe haven investment - takes second place, with a 66.8% return on investment over the same period, priced around $1,223.9 back in 2013 and reaching $2,042 last December.

385  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Monastery My Opinion on: February 25, 2024, 05:59:43 PM
I am unsure if this conversation has taken place here before and what diverse opinions the community holds. Nevertheless, I wish to express that I do not believe in the concept of a bitcoin monastery. While it may seem interesting, it is not something that is not practical. In a YouTube interview I recently watched, the interviewee discussed 'Bitcoin monasteries' as a metaphor for merging technology with spiritual leadership, proposing a vision of utilizing technology constructively under spiritual guidance. Although I am not an atheist, I strongly believe that bitcoin remains neutral in terms of spirituality, gods, and metaphysical forces. Therefore, we should employ bitcoin according to our personal moral principles and not bring in any sort of spiritual perspective to it. What is you take on bitcoin monastery?

Could you post a link to that interview OP? It sounds so stupid that it actually could be quite entertaining to watch. Was the person interviewed even a well-known person within the community, or some spiritual guru wannabe that popped up overnight?

Bitcoin is in the stage of breaking mainstream and the very last thing it needs right now is to create some sort of cult around it. I can't even imagine who would act as those "spiritual leaders" you mentioned, anyone trying to act like one would be instantly ostracised by the community.
386  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Premier League 2023/2024 Discussion Thread ⚽ on: February 25, 2024, 05:49:54 PM
Manchester United was frustrated at the end of the game. They couldn't get three points at Old Trafford against an average club. Fulham coach, Marco Silva understands the game and ensure he plays according to plans, he defended all the important areas on the pitch, just relaxed and watch Erik Ten Hag and his men struggle for a draw tie but couldn't maintain 1-1 after equalizing, another dangerous counter was trigger by Fulham and a goal was conceded on the hosts end. Shocking to see both Fulham players that puts their name on the scoresheet are from Nigeria.

It was a very bad performance by United. It's not like they lost due to bad luck, Fulham looked better than them in that game.
It's pretty clear that they're lacking in the attack department, they only have 36 goals scored, while any of the top 3 has around 60, so that's a huge gap. They have the least goals scored in all the top 12 in the table.
Ten Hag will have to start making changes or he'll be on his way out. Fans could have been somewhat satisfied with the 3rd place last season (despite finishing 14 points behind the City), but not even making to the top 5 will be a disaster for the 3rd richest club in the Premier League.
387  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Investment in gambling on: February 25, 2024, 05:24:42 PM
If it’s a ponzi site, then no matter how hard you try to gamble, you won’t be able to surpass it. You won’t be able to cashout the deposit money also.

High-calibre ponzi scams would often allow users to withdraw together with "investment" profit in an early stage of a ponzi life. That's how they lure people in and earn their trust. When seeing very attractive yields, even the dumbest of people will get at least a bit skeptical. So they would test it by making a small deposit, wait a bit to see if they earn a promised return and then attempt to withdraw. When ponzi operators allow such person to withdraw, the new "investor" will now be at ease thinking everything is 100% legit and he will not only deposit again, but very likely, deposit much more than initially and possibly even recommend that amazing investment opportunity to his friends and family.
"Good" scammers know the basics of human psychology and know how to capitalise on it.

I always don’t recommend to invest in gambling sites also. Yes you can invest in big casinos, but I hardly doubt that they accept investments from the common users.

We used to have quite a few dice sites that allowed anyone to invest in the bankroll, but there was a lot of trust involved and I don't think there are many of them left.

So my gut feeling turned out to be right and Ortega grabbed a win. I feel sorry for Yair, but respect to Brian for that beautiful art triangle choke.
I think Ortega proved to be worthy of another title shot. Looking at his record, and not counting that shoulder injury, he only lost to Volk by decision and to Max Holloway by doctor's stoppage.
This boils down the number of potential opponents for Topuria's next fight to 3, in order of likelihood: Volk (rematch), Holloway (provided he doesn't get destroyed by Gaethje in the UFC300 and Ortega.

And if the Octagon fights were not enough, there were some fan brawl, apparently uninterrupted by security, because... Mexico.

Yair Rodriguez [1.69] - For this fight, I like the way how Yair Rodriguez is performing his striking was really superb, and in their 1st fight I guess Rodriguez was really lucky that time, as Ortega was injured as I think even with the takedown defense I think Brian Ortega can eventually take Rodriguez into the ground and from that I think that Ortega will be more punishing so my pick is the grappler Brian Ortega.

I'm 100% rooting for Yair here, as I really like his fighting style and the entertainment value he brings into all his fights, but I have a feeling Ortega could make a surprise here. I think he'll give up on the idea of having a striking match against Yair and will be shooting for takedowns from early on to neutralise Yair's biggest advantage.

Not sure I've recovered from Volk losing, especially in the way he did. (...)

I kind of hope he'll get a rematch. He deserves it and there aren't many better options for Topuria.
Alternatively, Volk could be matched up with a winner of Rodriguez/Ortega and, if he wins, then he could get a rematch. And Topuria could fight Holloway next, unless he performs poorly in the UFC 300 against Gaethje.
391  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: MMA talk - PFL, Bellator, KSW, ONE... on: February 24, 2024, 11:03:01 PM
Breaking news!
PFL just announced that Francis Ngannou first MMA fight after signing new contract will be against winner of Renan Ferreira vs Ryan Bader.
I think Ngannou wins fight against any of this guys, but this weekend will be good chance for us to see who is better.
Ferreira is a slight favorite and he is younger, but Bader has more experience and I think he is better on ground.

I'm not following PFL at all but might start if Ngnnou actually returns to MMA.
Ferreira has just beaten Ryan Bader within 30 seconds of the first round, he put him down with the first punch. I haven't seen any of his previous fights but that was impressive.
As for Ngannou, I wonder if there's an actual date set yet, or is his return contingent on the outcome of his fight against Anthony Joshua.
I imagine he will prioritise his boxing career and do MMA only when there's no profitable boxing bout available. Should he defeat AJ, he'll probably be looking to fight a rematch with Fury, but if Fury wins, I'm not sure if Francis will be allowed to fight for all those belts (assuming Fury defeats Usyk) after only having 2 boxing fights in his resume.
392  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou - March 9 on: February 24, 2024, 10:46:23 PM
The PFL announced (as a BREAKING NEWS) that Francis will return to MMA and will face the winner of Renan Ferriera vs Ryan Bader fight:
https://bloodyelbow.com/2024/02/22/francis-ngannous-first-pfl-fight/

PFL's tweet:
https://twitter.com/PFLMMA/status/1760729268596920462

Is it a sign that Ngannou doesn't have high hopes for his boxing career - I don't know. But apparently, his PFL contract doesn't prevent him from competing in boxing. So maybe he intends to compete in both sports simultaneously, or maybe his return to MMA is contingent on the result of his fight against AJ.
393  Local / Polski / Re: Bitcoinowe fundusze ETF w Europie i USA on: February 24, 2024, 10:29:01 PM

395  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Which one is fun, watching with bet or without a bet? on: February 23, 2024, 10:09:40 PM
Just trying to get the communities opinion based on their experience about the topic.

Personally, a a bettor, I find it very stressful when watching the game you are betting especially if it will end up a losing bet.

If we have the same experience, how do you cope up with that problem, after all, gambling should be fun but why we have this kind of feeling that we feel disappointed when our bet loses?

That all depends how you define "fun" I guess. Some people would watch horror movies or go to roller-coaster rides, get scared (which is a negative emotion) but still consider it fun.
Placing a wager on a game is a bit similar. It provides way more excitement than watching a game without having any stake in it.
If you value nice, relaxing time over high emotions and excitement, then watch without betting.
I would always advise against betting too much. It's a bad habit and will cause too much stress. You don't have to bet a lot to have a feeling of having a skin in the game.

Ilia Topuria becomes the youngest active UFC champ. It seems like 29-33 is a prime age to become a UFC champion. It takes time to build a reputation now that UFC is very popular and the roaster is stacked. Is Jon Jones the youngest ever UFC champ at the age of 23?

Yup, Jon Jones was the youngest UFC champion ever, and now it seems impossible for anyone to beat him. That was a mixture of incredible talent, physical abilities and the fact he was ready to fight very often. Looking at his record, he fought 7 times in a span of 4 months in 2008. That surely got him noticed by the UFC. The times were different back then, the competition was not as strong as it is today and I don't even think any current fighter would be allowed to have an official fights every week like he did at the beginning of his career.

The top 5 youngest UFC champs:

#1. Jon Jones, 23 years
#2. José Aldo, 24 years
#3. Josh Barnett, 24 years
#4. Carlos Newton, 24 years
#5. Frank Shamrock, 25 years

Topuria did everything right in his career and he didn't even broke to the top 10. But he has at least 5 years of peak abilities to reign.

398  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Anthony Joshua vs. Francis Ngannou - March 9 on: February 22, 2024, 11:38:41 PM
I'd love Francis to challenge for the belts eventually - assuming he actually starts officially beating people - but you really can't give him a title shot for his third fight. If Fury losses the belts I'm sure he will rematch Fury next, but I can't see Usyk fighting Francis and maybe Usyk will just vacate and/or retire the belts if he wins them.
I don't know. That's a tough spot to be in. On one hand, if Francis defeats AJ, it'd make sense to make him fight one or two more fights before granting him the title fight.
But what happens if Fury beats Usyk, agrees for a rematch with Francis (for a non title fight) and loses. That would render any belts useless in the eyes of boxing fans. It's probably less risky to acknowledge Ngannou as some sort one-in-a-million boxing prodigy and fast-track him to the title shot than pretend he doesn't exist.

400  Other / Meta / Re: Moderator application for Polish local board on: February 22, 2024, 05:28:26 PM
You are not quite correct in saying that the Polish section has no moderator. The Polish section currently has five moderators. There are three global moderators and two administrators who can handle reports on the entire forum, including the Polish section.

Thanks for clarifying. Personally, I thought that with the absence of the previous mod (malevolent) any reports are not processed.
Out of curiosity, is there any particular person out of those 5 that is responsible for handling reports from the Polish board, or can any of them pick them up? And how do they deal with them exactly? Do they rely on google translate etc?
