1122  Economy / Economics / Re: Can CBDC users lose control of their money? on: July 17, 2023, 04:27:53 PM
CBDCs have nothing to offer that fiat have not offered. You can send fiat digitally and it is under the control of central banks and the government just like the CBDCs. In function, is there anything added to CBDCs that fiat can not offer? I see nothing new about CBDCs than claiming that it is built using blockchain. In function, digital fiat and CBDCs are the same thing and they totally invade people's privacy.

I agree, from the individual person's perspective, CBDC brings nothing new to the table other than potential threats of introducing more restrictions on how/when you can spend your money (i.e. there have been discussions of ideas of introducing "expiry" dates on money, to force people to spend it within a certain time frame).

The only advantage it provides is giving governments more control over the financial systems and the money flows and making all transactions transparent and traceable (further reducing privacy).

Larry Fink (BlackRock) makes the headlines again with his bullish statement, saying that there's a big demand for crypto from their investors. How nice as this might sound, let's never forget that these people are not our friends.

‘Transcend’ The U.S. Dollar—BlackRock CEO Issues ‘Important’ Crypto Prediction After Huge Week For The Bitcoin, Ethereum And XRP Price

BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager that looks after $10 trillion worth of value, has triggered a stunning bitcoin and crypto boom in recent weeks.
...
Now, BlackRock's legendary chief executive Larry Fink, who shocked the world when he announced a surprise crypto flip last week, has said he expects crypto to "transcend" traditional currencies, including the U.S. dollar.

"Importantly, because it’s so international, [crypto is] going to transcend any one currency in currency valuation," Fink, who last week said bitcoin and crypto could "revolutionize finance" in a dramatic reversal from his previous position of bitcoin being nothing more than an "index of money laundering," told CNBC.

"More and more of our global investors are asking us about crypto," Fink said, explaining BlackRock's move to file an application for a U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF) with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last month.

Holm looks worn out even before the fight started. Shes 40, it's a wonder why she still signs 5 fight contract in UFC despite how old she is for this combat sport. Striking is not impressive anymore imo.

There's a deficit of female fighters with enough recognition to sell the tickets. Holm has earned her name and can still capitalise on that as long as her performance is not a complete embarrassment. She has won 3 out of her last 5 fights so, despite her age, she's not looking that bad at all. She could do better in avoiding that standing choke but she looked OK until then.
I don't think women should be fighting at all, but I wouldn't write her off just because of her age. Everyone ages differently.

But what would be a good alternative when you don't have an offline machine?
Then you should get one. One laptop with Libreboot (Open Source BIOS), some Linux, Bitcoin Core client without a chain, and then you have it. Usually, when people don't want to set up some additional offline machine, then they use hardware wallets. For me, it is easier to set up some laptop like that, because then I have full control.
(...)

Massive thanks for your advice. Really appreciate it.
Sure, getting offline machine would be the most sensible way, but when you don't have a spare device lying around, buying a used one just to create one address to store not very significant amount of btc seems like an overkill.
And I never understood the appeal of hard-wallets, I know they're pretty useful, but at the end of the day, you still have to trust manufacturer/distributor and their staff.

Just pick or generate a binary number (0 and 1) on paper then convert it into a word (BIP39) list, then checksum it.

But, of course, you must be Math Savvy. https://armantheparman.com/dicev1/

I was thinking about this but that's a bit outside of my comfort zone. I'd be stressing that I might have messed something up in the process and that I won't have an access to my coins.
But thanks for the link, I might play with it a little bit when I have more time.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Betting strategy question on: July 14, 2023, 03:41:03 PM
Yes, arbitrage betting always favors you as a gambler, but once the sports house finds about your practices, the chance of
freezing your account or void your bets can take place.

Not only that, the chance of closing your account without getting your money back is also possible, it's not easy access since
house also needs to protect their money.

Getting your account banned for arbitrage betting is a very probable option. If it wasn't we'd all be doing that and all betting sites would go bust. But no legally operating casino can seize your funds permanently as that'd be simply illegal. At very worst they could freeze your account for the time of investigation if they suspected any abuse, or they could not pay you your winnings if they had evidence of you violating the terms of service, but that would be pretty hard to do for arbitrage betting, as the betting site can't see your betting history on other platforms.
1128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2P will safe your life on: July 14, 2023, 03:32:05 PM
CBDCs aim to coexist and offer options, not to replace real cash.

That's just a wishful thinking. There's a big push for getting rid of paper cash and no one is even hiding it. In most European countries using of cash is already restricted including max limits for cash purchases, that they keep lowering (plus they're getting effectively decreased by inflation alone).
There's no really a need for CBDC if it was meant to function only as one of the payment options.
From any government's point of view, issuing and managing cash is very inconvenient and creates opportunities for people to under-report their earnings (and pay less taxes as a result), is often used in criminal activities, and posses an inherent risk of it getting counterfeit.
The logic that the cash will have to be around because poor people use it is flawed. It'd probably be easier and cheaper for the government to issue free payment devices to those who need them (similar to "Obama phones" programme) than to keep cash in existence.

For Tom Aspinall VS Marcin Tybura fight that is going to be on July 23, for me, this is going to be a great fight and this is not going to be an easy fight for Aspinall Marcin Tybura has a ground game but for sure he is not that Technical in the stand-up like Tom Aspinall, and Tybura now is 37 years old so we can see if Father time is still good on him or not, and Tom Aspinall is a much younger and faster fighter for sure but for me, this is not an easy fight for Aspinall as he kind of returning from his injury and it was still fresh for sure,

If not for the injury thing, I'd probably be putting some money on Aspinall, as he looked really sharp in his last fights and was definitely on an upswing of his career and I think he was better than Tybura in every aspect. Tybura is not very entertaining in his fights and often looks quite clumsy, but somehow he is pretty efficient and earned a decent number of wins.
But since Tom is freshly recovered from that injury and since it's a heavyweight where one punch can be deciding, I think the odds are just to low and I'm actually considering betting on the underdog (Tybura) instead, simply because of the decent value.

Well, I found out that Mark Zuckerberg is not a black belt. But he was able to win a gold medal in a jujitsu competition.
I think we can say that he is genuinely above average when someone like Joe Rogan is talking about him being a savage.

It was a white belt competition, he'd stand no chance against actual black belts. But good for him anyway.
1130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why do 90% of Bettors Lose in Sports Betting in the Long-term? on: July 14, 2023, 02:56:35 PM
If someone is able to successfully use arbitrage continuously, he can win. The person can get caught if having multiple accounts in the same betting site, but you can do the arbitrage betting using different sites and do not violate rules at all.

By definition, you do arbitrage on different sites, you don't need multiple accounts on the same site as it won't make any difference. The only time you could arb on the same site is when they made an error in setting up odds.
Now, betting sites will not know whether or not you have registered with other platforms, but apparently they have algorithms to detect "unusual" betting patterns, which occur when you do arbitrage betting. So in theory all looks great, but in practice pretty much everyone reports getting banned eventually. And the risk of getting banned increases when you're betting high stakes, which is something you'd have to do if you wanted to get decent money out of it.
1131  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Where to invest 7k usdt on: July 13, 2023, 06:48:59 PM
Where to invest 7k usdt
To get profit daily 30$

You do realise you're asking for an investment that would reliably and consistently yield you over 150% p.a? There are no such investments.
The best you could do is to use that money to learn a trade and get some useful skills that will help you earn much more than $30/day eventually.
Don't be looking for instant gratification without any effort. That's a road to nowhere.
1132  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Generating private keys on USB flash drive bootable Linux on: July 13, 2023, 06:42:26 PM
It's advised for BTC private keys to be generated on an offline machine (that never gets connected to the internet) for maximum security. But what would be a good alternative when you don't have an offline machine?
Would it be a good idea to create USB stick bootable Linux (from a trusted source) and then access some trusted key-generator (e.g. bitaddress.org)?
Assuming the sources of Linux and bitaddress are trusted, the risk of private keys getting intercepted by any malware are pretty much only theoretical, right? Or am I missing any risks here?
1133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will debanking Nigel Farage affect Bitcoin? on: July 13, 2023, 06:27:21 PM
It is assumed that what happens at the financial level with fiat currencies does not affect bitcoin itself, despite the fact that this person is a famous politician in the United Kingdom and the EU, it is not for the rest of the world if everything that do people with power will affect bitcoin it would not make sense as such that they consider it decentralized so i do not think that what is happening to Nigel Farage will influence this currency and i mean in a negative way, because if this politician decides to consider bitcoin as its new financial resource and reinforces its movements so that more people can see its potential is already a different story, it is good news for this Cryptoactive

A single case like this indeed won't have much (or any) effect on Bitcoin's price. But if we keep hearing stories like this one, or just have regular people getting their bank accounts closed without any clear reason, it'll all add to the distrust that people have towards banks and the financial system as a whole. And when they'll be looking for alternatives, that's when Bitcoin will be gaining. It'll likely be a slow process rather than a sharp rise.
1134  Local / Polski / Re: Ogólne rozmowy na temat kampanii sygnatur on: July 13, 2023, 06:16:51 PM

No proszę, proszę.

Płacili $5 a teraz będą płacić $6.
Nie wiedziałem że mieliście aż tak dobrze. Miałem pare lat przerwy i widocznie przegapiłem erę najwyższych stawek.

Możliwe do wykonania.
1135  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns [Last update: 09-July-23] on: July 13, 2023, 05:51:51 PM
One of the changes coming next week will be the following:

No more avatar requirement. Flat rate of $6/post up towards 25 posts per week still in play but you are free to wear any avatar that you wish, besides one of a competing service.

I'll announce more stuff as this week goes, it'll all take place after the current round (16) ends, so keep the avatar for now, please  Cheesy

Some changes upcoming in Whirlwind campaign. Apparently they're increasing rates to $6 per post for all ranks (Sr and above), with no avatar requirements. But probably best to wait with the updates until al the changes are announced.
1136  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 13, 2023, 05:41:00 PM
How they gonna fight? Easily. First of all, that is never going to be a real mma fight. They gonna have sort of a exhibition fight, when there no strict rules about weight (for example Floyd Mayweather vs Logan Paul). Second - during first barbarian UFC tournaments, there were no strict categories as well Cheesy So seeing 70kg dude against 130kg dude was normal. Their weight difference is around 15kg. Few months of training and the difference would be 10kg, which is close to catch weight in UFC Cheesy Anyway their fight gonna be like first one to land a solid lucky punch, and they both would run out of stamina by the second round.

Exactly, weight categories are relevant only to professional fighters competing for the belt, and even in professional fighting we sometimes see fights in catchweight, so it's not like weight rules are set in stone and unchangeable.
If Musk Vs. Zuckerberg freak fight was ever going to happen (it won't) it's almost guaranteed there would be no weight limits, as that's the only way to make it interesting. With equal weights, Musk would have no chance against Zuckerberg's jew-jitsu.

Back on the subject of UFC, I'll repeat my question: Any thoughts on Aspinall Vs Tybura (UFC London)? Easy win for Tom, or not necessarily?
1137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 🥊 The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: July 12, 2023, 10:25:53 PM
First of all, I don’t think it is going to happen, and I also think that Elon Musk is just trolling. A lot of people don't know, but Mark Zuckerberg is actually a black belt in jujitsu as far as I know. He was the winner of a jujitsu competition which was held during the time of Covid. Probably he is just draining and trying to get better. But at the same time, I do not underestimate the chance of the fight happening. There is a genuine chance that we will actually see them fight against each other. But right now I think Elon Musk is just having fun. Otherwise, I think Elon Musk would have trained for the fight. But instead of that, we see him posting different photos of himself being out of shape on Twitter.

There's no way Zuckerberg is a black belt. Most professional UFC fighters who train jj are not ranked that high. He competed in some tournaments but in the white-belt categories. So it's still a very long way to go for him if he ever gets there.

I don't think any of them would want that fight to be honest, so yeah, it's just 100% trolling.

Any thoughts on Aspinall Vs Tybura (UFC London)? Aspinall is definitely better but returning after a pretty bad injury so there's always some uncertainty.
1138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: P2P will safe your life on: July 12, 2023, 09:51:59 PM
Money has three functions: medium of exchange, unit of account, and store of value.
This definition should be taken with a grain of salt as hardly anything would meet those requirements. Especially with inflation in some developed countries still being close to two digits.

So at the moment, bitcoin is almost impossible to use as a medium of exchange because each transaction takes time, costs electricity, and costs quite a lot.

What do you mean by "almost impossible"? Sure, you could argue that there are much cheaper and faster mediums of exchange but this doesn't mean Bitcoin can't be used as such. It is being transacted all the time, you yourself probably get paid with btc from the signature campaign you're participating in. So I don't understand why would you think it's impossible.
1139  Local / Polski / Re: Ogólne rozmowy na temat kampanii sygnatur on: July 12, 2023, 09:32:26 PM
może ktoś z was byłby zainteresowany i złożyłby podanie do ww, jeśli nowi uczestnicy byliby poszukiwani Wink

Trochę to wygląda na taktykę "bait and switch": przyciągnąć najlepszych posterów oferując $1/post więcej niż najlepiej płacące kampanie, żeby potem obciąć stawkę i zrównać z innymi.

People talking about communism and totalitarianism in here while the fact is that this specific private bank that Nigel was using can choose their customers
And Nigel didn't have enough funds in his account to fit as their customer. Of course Nigel is crying to his fan base as that sells. And he obviously lied about this too as he often does.

https://news.sky.com/story/nigel-farages-bank-accounts-whats-it-all-about-and-whats-the-coutts-threshold-12915155

I don't buy the story that the only reason for dropping NF as a client was him going below their threshold. They wouldn't cut him off because of that just like that without prior warnings. The Coutts are not even saying that was the reason (they refused to comment) so it's just a speculation. But if NF was blatantly lying, he would expose himself to a potential lawsuit for reputational damages and I think he knows better than that.
To clarify the situation, he could just publish that letter (if he hasn't already) to show whether or not they stated thresholds as the reason.

That being said, NF's claim that they did this to "take revenge" for the Brexit, doesn't make much sense to me neither.
