381  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Running bitcoin node with LN hub on a Raspberry Pi 3 on: October 01, 2018, 10:27:51 PM
I used this tutorial to setup bitcoin + lightning

https://github.com/Stadicus/guides/blob/master/raspibolt/README.md

Very easy to follow.

Great, thank you for the info, how are the temperatures btw? Do I need an extra/bigger radiator to cool it, maybe fan too? When everything is done I'll probably will put it in a box and have it on the desk but I want to order everything together, that's why I'm asking if I'll need some more stuff.
Mine is sitting in the cupboard (doors closed) and it's fine there were no problem with overheating or anything similar (I've no HDD attached, I was trying to run a neutrino type hub)
I've bought this copper heat sink, it's for the Pi and it was really easy to stick it onto the chips... it's about 2 EUR, free shipping, so it's not a big deal...
I think you should have some cooling because of the SATA HDD rather than the PI
382  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitart's post review topic for newbies to help them earn 1 or max. 2 merits on: October 01, 2018, 10:16:18 PM
...
I really appreciate your idea for helping newbies who has good writing skills to get merit
But Forcing some one to write somewhere is not a good idea in my opinion
For me I have zero knowledge of mining but a little bit good at trading that's why I mostly used to write into trading discussion thread also I am reading almost all good posts there to increase my knowledge
But if anyone else force me to focus on mining and write there then off course I will prove myself very poor and fool guy
I just wanted to conclude that please don't force anyone to change their field of writing only for merit, it is not good for newbies as well as forum
Thanks for understanding
Politely:
Noone forces anybody to write to the Bitcoin section, in order to get merit.
This topic is just a possible way to earn some merits for those, who are already writing in the bitcoin section but the meritable posts were not recognized/reviewed yet.
You can find merits outside of the bitcoin section too, so there's no need to struggle here... Do a quick check for those topics were other members review posts outside of the bitcoin section...
383  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitart's post review topic for newbies to help them earn 1 or max. 2 merits on: September 30, 2018, 11:22:47 AM

Despite of I was really trying to give you a merit because you were the first applicant in this topic, I've found out that you have exactly 5 posts in the Bitcoin section and most of the others are in the Alt section...
Your posts in the Bitcoin section are mainly in spam megathreads, rephrasing things have already been mentioned, so you should try a bit harder to create useful content in connection with bitcoin if you want to receive a merit.
384  Other / Meta / Re: Merit of the Hero Member on: September 27, 2018, 08:01:05 PM
The simple thing is that to get the position of legendary member it is require to have a particular number of activities at the same time the the particular amount of merit.
But this is the beauty of the process of becoming a Legendary that you don't know the exact activity nr. required for you personaly. So this is somehow mystical and this is the beauty of it. I wouldn't change it, and anyway, nowdays it's not the activity but the merit that determines who can be legendary and when...
385  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Implanted microchips - boon or bane? on: September 27, 2018, 07:28:24 PM
I like conspiracy theories Smiley What if we all have a chip, smaller than you can see on that picture of the article, and we don't know about it? Dogs also don't have a clue that they have a chip inside Smiley What if we already have received that chip with the e.g. h1n1 vaccination last year? If a company is testing that chip (normal size), national agencies should already have a half sized type or even smaller...
And when you travel by e.g. underground, you can easily get one injected into your bottom, and you won't notice it, you'll think it was just a mosquito Cheesy
386  Other / Meta / Re: Legendary one day? on: September 27, 2018, 07:10:49 PM
Boys stay on topic please. I can understand someone dreaming about becoming a junior member one day and made an off-topic post here or created a new topic to celebrate but talking about merit here isn't kewl.

Seems to me that we are largely on topic, because there are new requirements that are present in order to aspire to becoming Legendary some day, and that is the system of merits and whether regular mortal members are going to be able to rank up to Legendary in similar time frames as they were able to previously, or how much they might have to bust their butts (or otherwise to be exceptional in order to be able to aspire to achieving such rank, which includes passing through the various levels to become Legendary).  Sufficiently on topic in my humble bumble point of view in order to post in this thread (even though such topic of merit is beaten up in a lot of other threads, too, especially in recent times (as you seem to be implying with your suggestion that we might arguably be off topic, here).

Nah, I just want to stop the merit discussion there before random members join the party and start whining about how merit broke their lives  Wink
Just don't panic Smiley As long as there's no merit mentioned in the subject of the topic, they won't show up here Cheesy
Anyway, according to my understanding, they (newbies) could start a topic like 'Jr. Member one day?' because now, after the merit system it's harder to become a Jr. than it was to become a Legendary before the merit system...

I've got a few sMerits still, and I'd like to help newbies to rank up, so:

1.) If you are still a newbie, and
2.) you have less than 100 posts and
3.) You have at least 5 quality posts in Bitcoin section  (posts in Altcoin section, Off topic, etc... doesn't count, because this is a Bitcoin forum. Also due to language barrier I'm unable to merit local posts)

then please copy the links to your 5 best posts here, inside code tags (button # just above the smileys), like this:
Username:
Link to the profile:
Post link #1
Post link #2
Post link #3
Post link #4
Post link #5

Every newbie has 1 chance to apply for the post review and can get 1 merit based on the quality of the posts,  there's no need to post 2-3 applications here, just select your best 5 posts, and that's all.

How to get 1 additional merit:

You can have 1 more chance to get 1 additional merit, so you can end up with 2 merits in the end, here is how:

Go and find a post from 5 newbies, which you think worths merit (good quality, the same applies as above, less than 100 posts, inside bitcoin section and still newbie).
If you post those 5 other posts here and it turns out that at least 3 of them really worths merit, you'll receive another merit because of your contribution (if you have at least 2 meritable posts, of course).

Hint:
If you have just a few posts above 100, you can delete some of your older posts and you'll be eligible for the review

I'll do the reviews every weekend so you should wait patiently. I'll let all you know if I have already done the review of your posts, so you'll have the information.
There's no need to PM me, becasue PM's from newbies are disabled.

EDIT: Jackg, thanks, modified, that makes sense
EDIT2: Local updated and moved to Beginners

A little bit off topic, but what to do with newbies (former Jr.s) if they are keep sending PMs for some merits? (Merit begging).
Should we report them, or just leave them alone?
I think there are a lot of higher ranked members who receive these kind of PMs since the change

I haven't worked out how the Legendary lottery works. You need to get a minimum of merit and activity, and then it appears to go into a predefined calculation, and it seems to be a function of activity, post count, and member name.

This predefined calculation is not a difficult thing to understand, but you cannot do anything without the 'salt'...

I'm just wondering if they will implement this AML for all the centralized exchanges (I don't think it's possible to implement it, even just for the centralized exchanges), it it possible that centralized exchanges with AML and decentralized exchanges without AML will live parallel to each other?
Average Joes will use AML exchanges and others will use the decentralized ones?
Will decentralized exchanges be able to deal with fiat, or they will only exchange cryptos?
I don't think that exchanges who want to deal with fiat too would be able to escape the implementation of the AML/KYC/ETC...

Copypaste:
INTERNATIONAL ANTI-MONEY LAUNDERING STANDARDS FOR CRYPTO
The Financial Action Task Force (FATF) said it is getting closer to the establishment of a global set of anti-money laundering (AML) standards for cryptocurrencies, Financial Times reported September 19.

The FATF is an international organization established in 1989 at the initiative of the G7 in order to develop policies and standards to fight money laundering. The agency’s scope of activities further expanded to combat terrorism financing. The FATF currently comprises 35 member jurisdictions and 2 regional organizations.

The agency’s president Marshall Billingslea reportedly said that he expects the coordination of a series of standards that will close “gaps” in global AML standards at an FATF plenary in October.

At that time, the FATF will purportedly discuss which existing standards should be adapted to digital currencies, as well as revise the assessment methods of how countries implement those standards. Billingslea also outlined the importance of developing standards that can be applied in a uniform manner.

According to Billingslea, current AML standards and regimes for cryptocurrencies are “very much a patchwork quilt or spotty process,” which is “creating significant vulnerabilities for both national and international financial systems”. Billingslea, noted that despite the risks related to this kind of assets, digital currency as an asset class presents “a great opportunity.”

Banks will not even be forced to change anything regarding their current entrance on their internet banking software. If central banks talk about electronic money or blockchain, they do not think of bitcoin but something focused. They wanted to eliminate it in the year because everyone's financial track was their favorite. Then there is a monetary market "regulated" electronic money (electronic money is not new) and what we have with bitcoin and other decentralized currencies remains.

Adoption of what? This won't influence the adoption of bitcoin.
If it's about the adoption of the new national cryptocurrency, Average Joe's won't care about the kind of the payment system at the bank. (if it's a blockchain based one or not). Banks even won't be forced to change anything in connection with their current frontend of their internet bank software.
The reason is simple, the digital national currency is just a different kind of digital form of the fiat that the central bank issues.
If central banks talk about cryptocurrency or blockchain, they don't think about bitcoin but something centralized.

Bank of England is known as the central bank of the United Kingdom. The foundation of the modern central banks has been developed at the center. It is the world's second oldest central bank and the 8th Old Bank in the world after Sweden's Switzerland's Ritzbank. On July 17, 1694, a £ 1.2 million pound-sterling capital was established in the City of London as a personal financial institution through royal charter. Later, nationalization was done in 1946. [1] [2] In 1998, for the first time got autonomy from the government. [3] Yet it is controlled by the government. The Bank of England, established as a bank of the British Government, is the banker of the UK government. Mark Karen has been the Governor of the Bank since July 1, 2013. On June 30, 2013, he became the first non-Briton to replace Governor Marvin Kane for five years.

The Bank of England is the central bank of the United Kingdom and the model on which most modern central banks have been based. Established in 1694 to act as the English Government's banker, and still one of the bankers for the Government of the United Kingdom, it is the world's eighth-oldest bank. It was privately owned by stockholders from its foundation in 1694 until it was nationalised in 1946.[2][3]

I think this option is a good thing for their customers, but I'm not sure I would let Bitcoins deal with them. Those who are thinking that they will borrow easily with the BTC-USD return for trading purposes, this idea is not worth the price. But honestly I do not like the idea of returning fiat, in either case if the price goes up or down the only beneficiary would be the bitbank.

Well, since it is from Japan, I think that it'll be successful, not only because the project is made by Bitbank, but to also think that they are very clever and witty about this, Bitcoin loan is very unique, there are lots of theories about it and now they are making it happen, BTC-USD is a great form of loan, hopefully this comes out well.
I don't see it practical as for some of the time period the borrowed Bitcoin will be locked so can't do any activity with it, at least not trade. Those who are thinking that they will borrow on easy terms of BTC-USD pay back for trading purpose, this idea don't worth them. For some of the people like escrow it may work.
But honestly speaking I don't like the idea of paying back into fiat, in both the cases if price goes up or down the only beneficiary will be bitbank.

The Associated Press reported Thursday that the Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) for the Golden State voted 3-1 on Thursday to prohibit political donations in cryptocurrencies, citing the difficulty of tracking the origin of such donations and concerns over political transparency.

The decision follows a hearing in August at which the FPPC discussed several election issues, including whether cryptos should be allowed in political donations. The committee didn't reach a conclusion at the time, needing a longer period to fully understand the issue.

While some commissioners at the hearing argued against an outright ban, others raised the question of how to verify the origin of a virtual currency donation.

Currently, the U.S. Federal Election Commission allows candidates to accept cryptocurrencies like bitcoin as an in-kind donation, a ruling that was made back in 2014.

Will another new way of blockchain have involve into the political?

People whinged and whined like buthhurt babies and requested the same thing when ranks and even the merit system was first introduced, and things calmed down after a few weeks.
...
Now it took much less time, yesterday Meta was just similar like it was before the implementation of the Jr. merit change...
I've also mentioned to move all merit related topics into a new thread, in order to prevent Meta from flooding with newbie topics, but it's over now, so this topic is also lockable, maybe OP should lock it now...

I agree with you but what annoys me is how non defaulters get drag into most of these issues. Like the just concluded exercise of demotion of jnr members without merits to newbies. Forum didn't even considered the non defaulters who were not spammers but  didn't get merits because most times their topics or reply don't get notice
Why do the innocent newcomers need merit asap? I can only think about the signature. Everything else is managable if you have no merit and you are still newbie... (Post time delay, warning message in PMs, etc. are not a big deal at all... post quality doesn't depend on rank)
They should wait a bit, more merit sources were choosen, and if you check the statistics of the merits given, you can see a significant improvement compared to last week.
Give the forum a little time to let the dust settle and we'll see the results...
397  Other / Meta / Re: Enhanced newbie restrictions & requirements on: September 22, 2018, 11:20:44 AM
It seems like the hype has gone, Meta has only 1-2 new pages of new or newly answered topics per day just like before the implementation of the 1 merit to become Jr. system.
As most of the signature campaigns pay weekly (I don't know about the bounty campaigns), we need to wait for a week at least to let the newbies stop complaining in Meta. After then, those who have sMerits available can start to take a look at the Bitcoin Discussion and other former spam boards to find some newbies who worth some merits... I hope this will help those boards to get spam free again (or at least partially, like a few years before)...

With all due respect sir there is nothing played here I just made a comment pls it high time the account of spammer  should not be melted on other. Is it a crime to be a newbie or am I been picked on because I am not up to your standard
You are a newbie with 2 posts so it was not hard to check your post history. Both posts are compaining about the new merit system, nothing else. As soon as you start to post things that help the members here on the forum, you'll have a chance to get a merit from the merit sources. If you are reading the forum for a long time, you should know the merit system, so if you need merit, you need to start to add value to the forum. If you are a newbie (a real one), you should read first before you complain. It's not that hard to get 1 merit if you post quality things, so you should give it a try.

For some reason, Google seems to keep dropping it from some of my searches, so I have had to bookmark it.
I've just given this site a try as you've mentioned it in this topic.
I've checked a lot of posts, but unfortunately, 100% of the texts are 'Unique', and it has not found any plagiarism yet...
I've found one manually, you can check it in the copypaste topic:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1926895.msg45963896#msg45963896

So I've checked it immediately with the site mentioned:

So maybe I'm doing something wrong or the site is not that perfect for plagiarism checks?

Are there any Bitcoin Bubble?
The answer is yes, personally. It is the next bubble created by global finance. On a global scale, the market capitalization of the new coin at $ 180 billion, the highest trading volume of $ 9.8 billion, is so modest and small. This small to see the ball was never big to burst, it must be tight enough, big enough that happened. Some say that the Bitcoin market is too big to make a price, I think they have never seen the Vol trading on each floor, the highest point is only a few hundred million dollars / 24h. If you know a bit about the trillions of capitals of the New York Stock Exchange, Shanghai or even the hundreds of billions of dollars of Forex you will understand how small Bitcoin is.

The ETH’s plunged from $ 300 to $ 0.1 in a few minutes on the GDAX floor just because some sellers pulled out a few tens of millions of dollars causing Domino and triggered a stop-loss, The classic example of how coin market is still small.
