381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 07, 2014, 04:51:06 PM
Fellow XMRs,

I recently had close to 6 figures in XMR. I used to be in love with this coin. I have sold it all, pending regaining confidence.

One of the reasons I lost confidence was the desperation I am seeing in the figure heads of the XMR community - the epitome of which is in desperate scared nonnsensical threads like this one ---> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=771925.0

I would hope that the leaders in this community would talk to and reign in your "spokespeople" who are giving this coin a HORRIBLE reputation. The fear mongering and arrogance that is thinly masked insecurity is depressing. Please think about taking this coin in a different PR direction. Thank you.

You've lost confidence in the coin/team because of people outside the team?

Interesting.

I'm quite amazed how weak a hand you are, to be so influenced by people that are not actually on the team of that coin. I and rpietila are not apart of this coin any more that we are "spokespeople" for bitcoin. I am hoping this isn't a FUD campaign just as you start your marketing campaign for BBR

...

EvilDave -

this week I am going to start organizing a BBR marketing committee/group with a PR gameplan. I know you are busy with Nxt PR but I'd love to see if there are some ways we could cross promote BBR and NXT.

I do think with Teleport+CryptoNote we have the opp to have the strongest anon coin in the world. It would benefit everyone if we work together. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Jon

lol. Is that like a $5 USD bounty?

2.5 XMR Bounty to create AWS Linux AMI to mine XMR on CPU and GPU http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=771091.msg8695669#msg8695669

Hopefully it could be a $250 bounty in several months...
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 06, 2014, 04:48:23 AM
Also, how does this token move? How could I transfer it from one exchange to another?
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET - ICO conducted by BTER + ... on: September 06, 2014, 04:46:05 AM
James, how long will the bter ico run? is there a coin limit?

386  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Unique Ring Signatures using secp256k1 keys on: September 06, 2014, 04:25:55 AM
Could a ring signature set of several million people be created? Is there a limit to how many people mix together?
Only that it has linear scaling. Such a signature would be many megabytes in size and would take minutes to verify with state of the art ECC code.

So if we had 1,000,000 people apart of this signature, you could never find out who voted or released/leaked info unless the other 999,999 admitted it wasn't them?
387  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Accounts in Bitcoin? on: September 05, 2014, 05:58:16 PM
Hey, did anything regarding accounts ever get added into bitcoin?

Some sample pseudocode using the new Accounts based commands in 0.3.18.

print "send to " + getaccountaddress(username) + " to fund your account"
print "balance: " + getbalance(username, 0)
print "available balance: " + getbalance(username, 6)

// if you make a sale, move the money from their account to your "" account
if (move(username, "", amount, 6, "purchased item"))
    SendTheGoods()

// withdrawal
sendfrom(username, bitcoinaddress, amount, 6, "withdrawal by user")

You can use listtransactions(username) to show them a list of their recent transactions.

388  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Unique Ring Signatures using secp256k1 keys on: September 05, 2014, 05:39:28 PM
This sounds potentially useful for voting systems. You can see that everyone voted without seeing who voted for who.

389  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 05, 2014, 05:24:16 PM
Do we still have fund managers here managing XMR for their clients? Are you planning any exit strategy for them in the wake of consistent exploits/attacks on XMR mainnet? I know it is much easier to still speculate in XMR with own money, but is there any concern for other people's monies yet?

You're a troll through and through.

The exploit could have affected all the CryptoNote coins.

What do you suggest, that we stop investing in new experimental currencies because of risk?

This whole game is risk, bitcoin, monero, boolberry, nxt, ethereum.

You're an idiot. No one is investing in crypto today because it's safe and free of exploits.

390  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: September 04, 2014, 07:29:16 PM
Crypto currencies function by no decree. They are decentrally produced.

Bitcoin is centrally produced for mining (Ghash.io + any other pool have > 50% of hashrate) and protocol development.

With the coming ETFs and other offchain entities, it will soon by top-controlled for investment and transactions too.

Raise your hindquarters in the air for some Butthurt.

The ETF doesn't really matter though, financial instruments will be constructed of any worthwhile asset, you can never stop that.

Offchain solutions are the real problem, if Gavin and Co are incorrect in their analysis that technological progress will eventually lead to a network that is as fast as VISA/MASTERCARD/PayPal, then offchain payment processors will become the only way Bitcoin hits the masses. If this happens it will make room for a competitor that is natively as fast as VISA without needing to sell its soul to the devil. (payment processors)

This comes down to your confidence in the words of the Bitcoin core team. I see that you believe that they will be proven wrong and Bitcoin will not scale.

I agree and disagree. I believed in a concept I call the greed incentive, that a software will become extremely well designed and capable if all the participants of that software are going to be rewarded beyond their wildest expectations with the continued success of that software.

I still believe in that concept, but I think that a more agile team willing to take risks has more chance of succeeding by implementing the changes needed. For some reason bitcoin has not been changing, it's too afraid.

I am hoping the Monero team realize that ideal of mine, that they will continue to push the technology.

I have faith that monero could be the beginnings of this perfect coin.

W h a t   a   g r o s s   i r o n y that the most legitimate and economic initial distribution of any cryptocoin existing (and therefore the most potential #2 coin in the months and years to come) happens to be a coin with an unbelievably messy codebase, intentionally made scammy, buggy, unoptimized, crippled and obfuscated by the (B)CN scamdevs.

XMR is not the most legitimate and economic initial distribution of any cryptocoin existing. There are other people(myself included) who have gone to great lengths to attempt to create the fairest possible initial distribution for a cryptocurrency.

The XMR distribution obviously had some minor issues which don't need to be brought up again. And I'm not here to say anything negative about XMR in anyway(in fact while I'm here, congrats devs on handling this attack well) but it's probably best just to stick to facts.

You mean dga? I thought he sold most of his mined coins as he mined making it not a distribution problem.

What's up with shortBTCD? Should be around 80 now, not 120
since BTCD went up, shortBTCD went down

What is a shortBTCD?

A NXT asset with daily percentage gain/loss inverse to that of BTCD/BTC.

Details here.

Damn, that looks interesting, any chance of a monero version on the Nxt asset exchange?

Not immediately (at least not by this issuer), but if enough demand presents itself, maybe in the future.  We do also have ShortBTC and ShortNXT though.

Thanks, I might check out shortBTC, Smiley

Hi,

I just got one of the 750GH Cards that I was not expecting.  I ordered a system back in December.
First I was not sure what it was but now I figured it out.

I looked at this video and it matches.

VMC Gold Rush 750gh/s 28nm Bitcoin ASIC Mining Card

The box only was white no cover.

The question is I would like to sell this card and at least recoup some of the money.

Any one suing these guys let me know.

Thanks

396  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: September 04, 2014, 05:06:41 PM
Can someone give me a rundown on what happend with the bug? What effect did it have on the network?

An attacker with extensive knowledge of the Cryptonote code and network spent four days using custom software to lay the subtle groundwork for an attack.

When executed, it combined the preliminary troll transactions into a troll block designed to bypass safeguards and overload the Merkle tree's capacity.

The network split into two forks, because nodes favored the longer but malignant chain.

Has bitcoin ever undergone any sort of sustained/planned attack like this? This is certainly some dedication.
397  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BBR] Boolberry: Privacy and Security - Guaranteed[Bittrex/Poloniex]GPU Released on: September 04, 2014, 08:59:05 AM
Someone should ask Poloniex to freeze BBR trading too (IMHO).
I did in the trollbox..

EDIT: Tweeted to hitbtc too
https://twitter.com/kLee1977/status/507451026279268352

Do they have BBR there?

Why?? There has been no attack on BBR. You are over reacting.

I agree, it's premature to block coins even when we have no idea what part of the code is responsible and the true nature of the attack, it might be a purely monero specific flaw.
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: September 04, 2014, 08:57:38 AM
If there is such panic, why no significant dumps on hitbtc or Mintpal?

I doubt there is much dumping so long as the dev team rises to the challenge.

I love dumps. Lots of panic buying on the way back up.

I'm surprised that the price on mintpal is remaining stable.
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XMR] rpietila Monero Economics thread on: September 04, 2014, 08:52:20 AM
Speaking of short term prices, I am expecting 0.001 - 0.002 range when this gets sorted out.

Knowing that you are a supporter, you are just talking to your book. Shame on you!  Grin

I imagine that even if this flaw exists throughout all the CryptoNote coins, people will panic when the market unfreezes. Weak hands all around.

Has anyone heard what happened to monero? Seems like some smart dude messed up their blockchain. All transactions are stalled.

Yeah, someone very smart figured out a flaw and hit us hard, we are down! Sad

Has anyone heard what happened to monero? Seems like some smart dude messed up their blockchain. All transactions are stalled.

Looks like some serious shit is going down. Exchanges are freezing deposits/withdrawals in XMR.

It's crazy.

I hope they won't blame us again for their corrupted block

Don't worry, I'm not a conspiracy theorist (yet)
