421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Obligation of miners to return excessive fees on: March 10, 2017, 07:53:14 PM
It is indeed user's luck to get such hefty fees back. As far as I've seen most of the publicly known cases of fee errors have got their coins back, which I think is a very good behaviour from pools... I'd too try to get those fees back to users just like pools have been doing.

Regarding morals and such, we all have our own. Fortunately for us, pools seem to have pretty good morals regarding this subject.
422  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen to bitcoins in an online wallet with lost password? on: March 10, 2017, 07:40:29 PM
Suppose a person have some bitcoins in his online wallet and he forget the password (or lose access to that online wallet in any way) then what will happen to that bitcoins? Will that be there forever or as the wallet providers have access to them and they will get them if they find no any owner for years.

That person would use the recover password functionality that exists in many places. If you were questioning what happens if the owner's identity cannot be proven, that probably depends from provider to provider (maybe you can find it in their TOS, or something like that).

In general, funds would probably remain stuck until the wallet services shut down. At which point, yes, they would probably be lost for good.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SegWit (25.5%) vs Bitcoin Unlimited (25.2%) on: March 10, 2017, 01:06:19 AM
Unlimited somehow caught up in pool support, but blocks mined with it are still way lower than SegWit. %'s seem to be really close, sometimes SegWit on top, sometimes Unlimited. This data mostly means nothing, at least up until now, but it's still interesting to follow...
424  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything is going to be ok. on: March 10, 2017, 12:58:32 AM
So, Bu/SegWit = Few Chinese controlling the majority of hash. Both look same. And whatever who will be the winner the result will be same. It seems like BU will be the winner. Shocked

Both look the same, but are they the same? And how factual is that? How is that compared to a few years back? That was the end goal of my post, make readers think.

Too early to tell who will win when most seem to want nothing and 2 groups seem to not want what the "other group" wants.
425  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How the chinese BUcoin takeover will be destroyed on: March 10, 2017, 12:47:52 AM
Food for thought Smiley

also another blockstream employee, who invented FIBRE is now working with 'chaincode' to create hyperledgers 'fabric'

I was unaware of this...
426  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything is going to be ok. on: March 10, 2017, 12:41:16 AM
Hoping that It gets well again ,though the value of  bitcoin now is not that bad at all, though there are some issues and failures in transactions in still satisfied on what I'm getting and earning in bitcoin. Hoping that it will goes upward and more developments in bitcoin.

The exchange value of Bitcoin and whatever all of us combined are earning and/or profiting somehow with Bitcoin is a really, really tiny drop in the ocean compared to the scaling issue. If we don't scale today, we don't "earn" tomorrow (and I mean this in multiple ways, and profiting is what least concerns me).

BU = Few Chinese controlling majority of hash

Can't believe anyone would be ok with that.

If that is what Satoshi wanted, guess he wasn't the genius I though he was. Too bad he's not around anymore.

So according to Bitcointalk and other discussion boards, "Core=Few Chinese controlling majority of hash" and "BU=Few Chinese controlling majority of hash".

Time to have a "break it down" post regarding this like some posts we had regarding Core/SegWit and other ideas/implementations?
427  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Accusations of Paid Shills on: March 10, 2017, 12:36:58 AM
This entire block debate, I have seen people on both sides accusing those on the other side of being a paid shill.

That needs to stop. Such an accusation without any evidence is extremely intellectually dishonest and is basically making the claim that no one is able to have a point of view or perspective that is different than yours of their own free conclusion. It is not a position that one can have an intelligent discussion with, because when you believe someone's motives are paid, you do not have any desire to listen to their perspective or try to see their point of view.

Hundreds of posts from many users over the last few months have been pretty well summed here. Unfortunately many people don't understand that you don't need to make others smaller in order to be heard or have a message go through. And especially that some types of behavior do not encourage actually finding solutions.

However, LN is not a solution to transaction problem for me. And right now it is not a solution to the transaction volume problem for anyone because LN does not even exist right now, it's still vaporware.

Besides that, it is an off chain payment network. We have a few of these already.

This debate needs to be discussed, but it needs to be discussed in an intellectually honest way.

Let's hope this happens. I think we've been further away from that.
428  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How the chinese BUcoin takeover will be destroyed on: March 10, 2017, 12:29:20 AM
I need to remind everyone that Bitcoin is not about having the best possible tech in my opinion.
There will always better coins out there, more sophisticated and with better parameters.
First and foremost Bitcoin is an economic system - that is something that newly created altcoins might never achieve,
because they are born with sole purpose of making their creators rich. Furthermore ICO concept weakened altcoin scene.

I get your point, but I don't entirely agree... If the coin resulted in a viable and working economic system, then it employs the best tech available for the purpose to which it was created. Sometimes "best possible" isn't a synonym for "most advanced" Smiley Other coins with better parameters is questionable.

Yesterday's best tech needs an urgent (scale) upgrade now...
429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything is going to be ok. on: March 10, 2017, 12:25:03 AM
So tell me what is this new low?  I am kinda intrigue wth this and yes I agree that after the new low, the next move is the new high Cheesy.  When caught at the bottom there is always a two direction to go.  It is either to go horizontal or go upward Cheesy

I think it's pretty obvious that the low is the fact that we've been discussing scaling for ages, the discussion's tone has risen up once again for the 2nd or 3rd time and we're almost as close to a solution as we were when we started (unfortunately due to many people's stubbornness, from both sides)

its scripts
other script words to watch for contain
"conservative"
"ad-hom"
"BUCoin"

many people repeating the same thing=brainwashing

you start to spot the obvious script readers
and the funny scripts from blockstreamer
"BU causing a fork will damage bitcoin" .... later, same people.... "BU should fork off"

its like they dont even understand what they are saying it. and just saying it for some competition or some prize

So it seems. Looks like when mainstream media outlets share dubious news and facts about Bitcoin and generally spreading that it only serves illegal purposes, sad to see similar tactics being employed to push the fear of a deadly fork... Sad to see Bitcoin users spreading this, they only lose by doing so (maybe they're affiliated with some altcoin that they believe it could profit with Bitcoin's decline?)
431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Everything is going to be ok. on: March 10, 2017, 12:09:58 AM
I agree with the title of thread but not with what the first post says... The chain isn't stopped so it can always get worse Tongue

Jokes aside, we are indeed reaching a new low, so it can only go up from here, I guess...
432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How the chinese BUcoin takeover will be destroyed on: March 10, 2017, 12:04:13 AM
I'm not getting it, where is this "BTU" coming from? Second time I see it on the forums today... Not sure if I should do a report to have this moved to the alt-coin section...

People are taking this way too far. Unfortunately it's starting to sound like people want a "little Bitcoin" to play with to see if they can do as well or better as early Bitcoin adopters in a way shorter amount of time and then just have the coins converted to their fiat currency of preference. Articles overseeing every detail that can occur in case of a fork (that creates an altcoin or a pseudo altcoin, or "BTU", or whatever anyone wants to call it) aren't encouraging and not an incentive to move forward.
433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [POLL] Possible scaling compromise: BIP 141 + BIP 102 (Segwit + 2MB) on: March 09, 2017, 11:48:32 PM
This and other similar mix of BIP's has been suggested... If it scales, I'm down for it or pretty much anything else.

I have read DooMAD's proposal now and I like it a bit. It would give less powers to miners as they only can vote for small block size increases, but would eliminate the need for future hardforks. The only problem I see is that it could encourage spam attacks (to give incentives to miners to vote higher blocksizes) but spam attacks will stay as expensive as they are today will be even more expensive than today because of the "transaction fees being higher than in last period" requirement, so they are not for everyone.

Very interesting post. The other issue I see here is that such code doesn't exist, thus isn't tested, so it can't be deployed anytime soon.

434  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Migrating from Bitcoin Core to Bitcoin Unlimited on: March 08, 2017, 06:53:33 PM
With the release of bitcoin core 0.14, do I upgrade bitcoin core or migrate to Bitcoin Unlimited?

Should I decided to migrate to Bitcoin Unlimited, what are the recommended steps or risks associated in performing this operation?

1st question has already been answered, do as you wish.

2nd question... Recommended steps are the same as Bitcoin: compile from source or at least verify binaries before running. There are no risks associated as long as you agree with whatever consensus rules your clients "defends".
435  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Fiverr.com forced to remove BTC as a payment option due to high fees on: March 08, 2017, 06:48:36 PM
If they did remove Bitcoin due to high fees, then there we have the result of our indecision... This would happen sooner or later. Let's see if anyone else does similar. Pretty sad to see it happening.
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ► Bitcoin Memes ! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ► Dank! ► Unlimited Supplies! on: March 08, 2017, 06:38:50 PM
This will definitely be an interesting thread, but not for this section... Smiley

Yes, apparently it is possible. You should read this.
438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BU (Bitcoin Unlimited) and ETF Newbie questions on: March 07, 2017, 07:24:05 PM
OP, sorry for somewhat "hijacking" the thread, but posts here made me think... Where do we really draw the line regarding BU or SegWit being or not being altcoins?
439  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think about blockchain powered cars? on: March 07, 2017, 07:08:11 PM
Cars that drive themselves are past the testing phase. They are really safe and ready to be put on the market, the only reason they aren't is the production cost. If they are made cheaper there will surely be some taxis and rental cars driving around and using blockchain should be much safer than using a card reader. I just hope they can make it faster too.

This is not true. There are no vehicles complying with NHTSA's Level 4 Autonomous Vehicle classification. These are indeed in a testing phase, and in a quite early phase: these cars just left the garage for private roads... There isn't even any Level 3 vehicle (although Tesla's can, in some routes, perform like a Level 3 Autonomous Vehicle).

The main problem with Teslas is they are really expensive for a consumer product. They still are targeting the wealthy citizen, who wants to show off and needs a lot of HP under the hood, not the average guy, who wants a cheap electric car to drive to work.

Yes, they are quite expensive, hence why they're building Model 3. However, as things are now, probably only Tesla could do some kind of blockchain integration in feasible time without having to overhaul their software.

It's a bit of a overstretch to integrate a wallet into a car and risk the security of funds in case of the car getting stolen for the sole reason of making buying gas convenient.

If the car registered erratic human intervention (high speed and/or wreckless driving) it could upload wallet information and destroy the wallet or simply stall and turn off the car. In case of tampering, the vehicle could destroy its information too. I think this won't be a major problem, unless there's a wallet exploit that a hacker could execute in just a few minutes inside the car.

Also, if the car goes into a far away place [...] and there is no internet connection, the driver still has to bring cash or credit card or something.

This is why we need things like these to be developed...

For a small transaction like a bus fare, do you really need to wait for a confirmation?

This is indeed questionable. Even more questionable if the hashrate keeps rising, as this won't be implemented soon anywhere, really... Will it be even slightly feasible to double spend in the future in cases like these? My bet is that it won't be feasible or at least highly impractical. It probably won't be worth it for bad guys Smiley
440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoins is now same as paypal(and worst) on: March 07, 2017, 06:52:26 PM
Funny thing here is that Bitcoin is still more useful as it allows you to store the funds yourself. But yes, I get OP's point... And here we go again with the scaling talk Wink

I heard voices suggesting that we need to add identity information and chargeback to bitcoin transactions and make it possible to blacklist funds.

I obviously don't like the idea, as I think it is outright crossing the line, but we can't deny there is possibility for such 'dirty' move in the future.

Yes, there is a possibility for moves like this... Outside Bitcoin. Whatever you create that adds identity information or chargebacks to "Bitcoin" transactions won't be Bitcoin anymore.
