1421  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: Blockchain stress test on: February 19, 2016, 08:11:35 PM
You can check blockchain statistics here. We don't seem to be going through a particular stress test or anything similar.

Network congestion is normal, you cannot rely on the network for fast transactions, you should use other currency like litecoin or just stay off bitcoin until it can handle current usage.

That's kind of not an option... Cheesy And you can rely on the network for fast transactions, if you make them yourself...
1422  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [Minera v0.6.2] Your next mining dashboard - Networked/CPUminer/CGminer/BFGminer on: February 19, 2016, 11:09:45 AM
How should I go on about uninstalling Minera and it's related packages? make uninstall doesn't seem to work.
1423  Economy / Exchanges / Re: rdd withdrawal order from Cryptsy not completed yet on: February 18, 2016, 09:47:13 PM
Cryptsy is having issues. Here's their blog for more info.
1424  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would miners switch, if most nodes where Classic nodes? on: February 17, 2016, 09:21:38 PM
yeah but what i mean is, if most nodes are classic then surly that would show that the consensus is for an increase in the block size? Would it not be in the miners interest to go with consensus,  rather than there own self interest, otherwise people will lose interest and use other coins to transfer wealth.

Yes, if most nodes were in fact Classic nodes, it would definitely be showing a trend there... But that's not the case. Don't forget that just because node operators change their client doesn't mean that forking to that client's rules is a certainty.

Blocks have been mined with classic.

https://coin.dance/blocks

Thank you, I was unaware that one could already mine with Classic. Didn't see any warning regarding that.

No, just having more Classic nodes won't make people switch.
The number of nodes is not an accurate metric and technically can't be trusted. What I mean by this is that somebody could relatively easily start up a high number of nodes. Because of this, it might seem like there is support behind something when in fact there isn't. IIRC there was a day when the number of XT nodes suddenly spiked.

Correct, hence why I said nobody would really switch... Faking nodes could be easily detected, like the case you referred from when someone deployed a huge number of fake nodes. That's not support and makes your statement true.
1425  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Moving forward with Armory on: February 16, 2016, 09:27:50 PM
I'll look into getting mod status once I go into the whole release/website dance. For now, I want to focus on coding.

Understandable. Thank you for your effort.

At the current rate, I could have a testing phase this week.

Wasn't expecting this so soon, interesting Smiley
1426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Would miners switch, if most nodes where Classic nodes? on: February 16, 2016, 09:18:27 PM
No, just having more Classic nodes won't make people switch. These nodes are just relaying transactions like Core, XT and Unlimited nodes... And last time I checked, you couldn't even mine with a Classic node.
1427  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: How many GB do your Armory and Bitcoin Core Folders take up? on: February 16, 2016, 07:22:53 PM
Both should be around 120GB with default settings. It's more or less what I have. Something's probably wrong with your Armory and you definitely don't have your Core client synced.
1428  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: February 16, 2016, 07:19:13 PM
Signature issues seem to be on lower resolutions indeed... When I read about them I noticed the irregularities, but I was on my laptop which is 1366X768, running Linux Mint and Chrome. My Windows 10 + Chorme 1440X900 desktop displays the signature just fine. never noticed if this always happened or not, as I don't use my laptop often. I can only say I'm 100% sure the signature always displayed correctly on my desktop. Hope this helps figuring out what's up...

As for payments, mine seems to be on hold too, and no sight of the funds from when the bot changed either.
1429  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: James Bond Inside A Secret Chinese Bitcoin Mine on: February 16, 2016, 07:11:51 PM
Hahaha! "The noise is a problem, but not like the world cup" Grin

This was one epic find... Worth the post. Nice one OP Smiley
1430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'll try to pay my dentist with BTC on: February 16, 2016, 07:07:43 PM
For those saying that dentists are this or that and won't accept Bitcoins... There are quite a few who already do, and I remember reading a couple years back about a dentist being one of the first accepting Bitcoin and one of the first people in the medical business doing so. Since I can't link that one (not sure where I read about it), here goes other dentists accepting Bitcoin:

http://bitcoin.travel/listings/emident/ (In Budapest, curiously)
http://www.dcdclinic.org/ (these apparently do too, although no mention of it on their website)
https://meidanklinikka.fi/ (These accept Bitcoin too)

And there's also this

Just searching for dentists+bitcoin gives us some options.

Also, OP, what do you understand by "heavy dental work"? And why is it worth it to fly to Budapest just for that? Prices must be really, really good and the service top notch...
1431  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 16, 2016, 06:49:57 PM
I'm sure he could pull that off:
"Let's make BTC-friendly legislations. Then we'll tax all the holders at 50% and give the money to the poor".

Everyone would definitely go for that Grin

No disrespect for the elderly, but Bernie Sanders is simply too old to get it

He's pretty much too old to get anything, I think. Fresh faces on the government would be much better.
1432  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much would you pay per month to run a full node? on: February 16, 2016, 10:17:59 AM
I don't understand why would you pay someone else to run a full node and don't just run it yourself for free?

You cannot run a node for free. Unless you steal bandwidth and electricity which is obviously incorrect Tongue

I'm paying 8 EUR a month to run a Classic node on a German VPS at the moment. It feels pretty reasonable to me, I get a ton of HDD and unlimited bandwidth.

What's the host?

Is it posible to run a full node in pi? I need a external usb drive.
Computing power wise and power wise, raspberry pi is feasible.

It is for now, but its 512 RAM is very small and its CPU is very slow, so validating the blockchain alone takes several weeks.

It's feasible, and there are people running nodes this way... But obviously not on the 512MB RAM Pi B Smiley You've got to have a Pi B 2, which has 1GB RAM.

For now you can even run the node solely on the Pi, using a 128GB card. You can even run it portably, on an external battery, using wifi or a 4G connection (I haven't tried this, but it's not an impossibility)
1433  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: which takes more transaction fees-paypal or bitcoin? on: February 16, 2016, 09:35:59 AM
I've only done one transaction using a PayPal account and I've paid more in fees on this transaction than I've paid in fees in 2 or 3 months using Bitcoin... So there's that. PayPal is immesurably more expensive.
1434  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Welcome Armory users! on: February 15, 2016, 10:32:04 PM
To new users ending up here and/or old users outdated or currently unaware of what's happening: Alan Reiner (etotheipi) has ceased to take an active part in developing Armory, and Armory Technologies, Inc. isn't responsible for Armory anymore. More about that here.

goatpig is now in charge of Armory as it can be seen here and will continue actively developing Armory, for the time being.

Meanwhile, Armory's website is offline. If you need sources you can go here (goatpig's GitHub) and if you need binaries you can download them from here, which is also from goatpig's GitHub.

Just a TL;DR for confused and/or lazy people Cheesy
1435  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Moving forward with Armory on: February 15, 2016, 10:25:03 PM
I don't have moderator power in this sub forum. Afaik no Armory employee ever had.

I suspected that. Anyways, it's you call, fine by me and pretty much anyone else on this thread, we know how to get our source and binaries from... I suggested this after reading about a user having issues with an older version and well... the binaries have to be somewhere visible for people who spend less time here to update. I haven't taken the liberty to create a thread with links and an explanation because it wouldn't be stickied and would probably get lost between all the threads Cheesy I don't think mods would stick a thread not made by you.
1436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin in Deadpool on: February 15, 2016, 09:40:57 PM
No pictures up yet, as far as I've seen... Do I really have to go watch it now? haha Grin
1437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Guys, is there a wallet with SMS(text MSG) verification ? on: February 15, 2016, 09:34:06 PM
Also, can I trust this wallet with hundreds of thousands of pounds ?

You can trust them as much as you would trust a third party to hold coins for you.

I'm not sure about what you're trying to say with this?

Bitcoin is about giving the power of holding your funds back to you. Why would you trust a third party to hold them for you, especially since you're going to buy a nice sum of coins? It makes no sense. That's what we already have, it's called a bank, and it's the reason most people end up here.

Example: would you trust me to hold your coins? If you went on holidays, would you trust me the keys to your house?

There's a saying around the forum that goes "if you don't own your keys, you don't own any Bitcoin", and that's correct (we don't even need to talk about Mt. Gox, Cryptsy, etc to verify this statement as true).

So, in short, if you don't mind losing your coins, then yes, you can trust any wallet.

You have web wallets with 2FA/SMS. Examples have been given. Use them with caution and with amount you can afford to lose. If you want to store big amounts, a cold storage method is a must have.
1438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bernie Sanders will use bitcoin for economic growth? on: February 15, 2016, 09:22:57 PM
Highly doubt it. It would give him a dubious image and it wouldn't win him many votes, if any at all. I also don't think he desires to be involved in Bitcoin... He's a politician after all.
