1361  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: for which purpose satoshi nakamoto developed bitcoin? on: February 28, 2016, 01:35:22 PM
Satoshi created Bitcoin because he wanted an alternative. It seem pretty obvious that he wasn't happy at all with all these banks having issues, bailouts and things like that. Satoshi wanted the world to stop depending on paper currency that government steal, subvert, control and print however they please. He also wanted to be able to send funds without being scrutinized and asked why he was sending those funds and to who. These are pretty much the reasons why we are all here Smiley
1362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Who is sending to 1111111111111111111114oLvT2? on: February 28, 2016, 01:30:52 PM
The answer to your question is pretty simple: folks sending coins there are people who do not value their Bitcoins.
1363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: RPi Zero BTC Node? on: February 28, 2016, 12:44:32 AM
why run a node in a Raspberry board  Huh
for hobby or a practice motivation?
just to understand....

Cheap and fun way to run a node. You can say it's both a hobby and a motivation to keep the network with as many nodes as possible.

Your not helping network running a full node on a raspberry pi.

Why?

Where are you shipping from?
1365  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin protect? on: February 27, 2016, 09:24:17 PM
You protect your coins from theft by having your own private keys (avoid online wallets), having a good passwords on coins on online computers and having a chunk of your coins offline.
1366  Economy / Speculation / Re: At what price is bitcoin a good buy? on: February 27, 2016, 07:49:27 PM
A good price to buy Bitcoin is as low as possible... There's isn't a price set in stone for it to be a good buy, the good price you're looking for changes constantly according to the market...

430$ could be good today, but not tomorrow... Or could be bad today, but not tomorrow.
1367  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Convicts on: February 27, 2016, 05:36:41 PM
There was already a thread on this with a list compiled and respective charges and sentences around the forums, but I can't seem to find it now.

You forgot to add escrow.ms who seemed to be arrested a few days ago for actions unrelated to the forum (references: 1, 2)

I'll post the other thread here if I find it meanwhile.

I don't think it's fair that you add BurtW to the list. Here's the thread about what happened so you can get a better hang of the situation. As for the other they either did wrong or I never heard of them.
1368  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I helping by running a 30Kb/s node on: February 27, 2016, 05:27:21 PM
You're not helping the network, then.

Even though he doesnt help others with syncing much and can only open 8 outgoing connections, he still rellay incoming transactions thus helping the network with transaction propagation and decentralization. Also more nodes = the original transaction sender IP become more anonymous.

I guess you're right, that seems to be true. Was not aware of that, thank you Smiley
1369  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So Cryptsy's CEO predicted this would happen. on: February 27, 2016, 05:22:07 PM
If this is true, then we can assume that either the hack is a lie or after being hacked, Cryptsy's MO changed a little bit. This makes "Big Vern" a con artist (beyond having been trusted with coins and "misplacing" them Roll Eyes)
1370  Other / MultiBit / Re: Confirmation question on: February 27, 2016, 02:17:01 PM
The funds have been through quite a lot of confirmations, so they're there. What wallet do you use?
1371  Economy / Goods / Re: How to use a physical coin? on: February 27, 2016, 02:07:38 PM
It's really easy to use a Casascius coin, or any other nice physical coin: You buy it, store it safely (preferably in an airtight capsule) and look at how pretty it is Smiley
1372  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If miners sell coins, where do they sell them? on: February 27, 2016, 01:55:31 PM
Where does everyone else sell their coins? Exchanges, OTC, through localbitcoins etc... Miners sell their coins there too.

As for how many you'd have to ask the miners themselves, I guess... But I don't think any big operation will disclose their numbers to you (or anyone of us) in this forum Cheesy
1373  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9.8 Not Supported Anymore? on: February 27, 2016, 01:24:26 PM
i downloaded it with standalone executable.

However is there a reason i still have the old electrum icon on my desktop?  I click on it and nothing shows up.  I then type in electrum in start menu and see it called electrum 2.6.  So i have to copy and paste that into my desktop then as shortcut?

The other issue is why is my bitcoins in mBTC?  So instead of having say 10.20909090 bitcoins showing... electrum 2.6 shows 120.0909090.  Is there a way to change this?

So if i did windows installer, that mean would i would have the electrum 2.6 icon on my desktop?

You probably used an installer previously, hence why you have both versions now. Yes, if you used an installer it would have updated your older version.

Okay i changed it to btc in preferences.  Another question.  So the default fee for sending btc is 0.0005 btc?  In electrum 1.9, it was 0.0002 btc.

What is the minimum fee for sending btc?  I assume you could still put 0 if you like?  But can the fee be 0.0002btc like in electrum 1.9 or its now 0.0005btc?

Thanks

Fees are not Electrum dependent. More on fees here.
1374  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: This will be cool! Autocomplete in Debug Console on: February 27, 2016, 01:13:21 PM
Good news! This would be really great... for newbies as said, but for experts too who the code all too well and get frustrated by having to type everything all the time without the software "knowing" straight away what they want Cheesy
1375  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I helping by running a 30Kb/s node on: February 27, 2016, 01:10:51 PM

You know you're helping if you have your ports forwarded and can connect to more than 8 people.

I can't do that using free WiFi. I might try to get the libraries to open port 8333 specifically for Bitcoin, but they may not like people downloading the whole blockchain.

You're not helping the network, then.
1376  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Am I helping by running a 30Kb/s node on: February 27, 2016, 01:02:28 PM
Several connection can be made precisely to avoid being hindered by a unique slow node, so it's better have a slow node, as said.

You know you're helping if you have your ports forwarded and can connect to more than 8 people.
1377  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I'm trying to create a 100% Bitcoin powered music career. Any tips? on: February 27, 2016, 12:57:46 PM
Build a website with Electrum integration... Or at least a wordpress blog with those plugins that accept xpub keys. Or either sell your album through PayIvy or some platform like that.
1378  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9.8 Not Supported Anymore? on: February 27, 2016, 01:21:44 AM
okay just want to make sure.  I have windows 7.  So just click on Easy installation windows... then which one

standalone executable
windows installer
portable version

I assume its either standalone or windows installer...

Well, you choose whatever fits you best... If you're in doubt, an installer is probably the best choice.

I never used electrum on my iphone...

Of course not, Electrum isn't available for iOS, what does that have to do with the issues you're having? Cheesy

1380  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 1.9.8 Not Supported Anymore? on: February 27, 2016, 01:06:03 AM
do i do this with electrum closed/  I will download it.  But i read in an old thread you have to make a backup first?  Because i dont have backup.  I do have that phrase though for my electrum the secret phrase...

want to make sure.  Also that means with the phrase that means even if something goes wrong in the upgrade, no issue at all?

Yes, you close Electrum and update it. If you have your seed written somewhere, then there's your backup. You can also make a digital one if needed.

Yes, no issues as long as you have the seed, that where your addresses come from.
