You literally listed the least recommended 2 factor authenticators anyone should use out there  Cheesy

The fact that your backup is stored in the cloud and the apps are not open source should be enough to keep you away from those apps when it comes to security of your accounts.

Funny thing is he recommended Google Authenticator not the common term two-factor authenticator.  Btw, while looking for additional authenticator, I happen to stumble on YubiKey authenticator, anyone had tried this one?  I read this one is a physical key

Call it the odd one out, but YubiKey by Yubico is the gold standard for two-factor authentication.

This is a physical key providing the ultimate security. Still, you can also use it with the YubiKey authenticator application if a specific platform doesn’t support hardware authentication.

There is also this  Duo Mobile for android devices and there is also this 2FAS

422  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Litecoin to Bitcoin address, help? on: May 06, 2023, 10:42:45 PM
^^ If that is the case then I don't think that you can get it back since you don't have control of the senders adddress, which belong to Owl.games. And I also doubt that they can do something in their end. I had the same experience way back in 2019, it was a ETH->ETC transfer though, and it should be ETH->ETH but I might have pressed the wrong symbol. Anyhow, I reach to the casinos and the 3rd party custodial wallet that I did send the ETC. So neither is willing to help or at least it's a long process and so I didn't bother. It's not that big amount though, so I just took it as a lessons learned.

I think the challenge here is to get the private key of the receiving wallet address.  Even though what Charles-Tim stated is doable, there is no private key to import.  I also doubt that an exchange will give @OP of the private  of the address generated on their platform.

Although my wish is that you can get your fund @OP but if we look at the possibility and be realistic about it, this is almost a lost BTC fund case.
423  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Prize day on: May 05, 2023, 11:58:03 PM
Great initiative ther @OP by spending part of your income to give Bitcoin proliferation a boost by teaching these students and have them quizzed so that the understand what you are teaching them.

Quote
My question is don't you think that I am using those students wrongly to help spread bitcoin awareness.

No you are not wrongly using these students to spread Bitcoin awareness,  Instead you are giving them an option to help themselves by giving them understanding of the benefits they can get if they choose to participate in Bitcoin economy.

Will you encourage me to tell my new colleagues in my new place of work about bitcoin or just pipe low, until someone that is interested on bitcoin needs guide or assistance in the adoption of bitcoin.

I won't encourage you to push your colleagues into learning about Bitcoin but you can always share your experience to them in a more natural means of conversation.  Whether they get interested and ask for more information is up to them.
424  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: tips for profitable investment in bitcoin on: May 05, 2023, 11:34:51 PM
I would also add to do a thorough research about Bitcoin economy.  Knowledge will save us from any difficulty in the market.  Bitcoin investment always comes with a risk so learning risk management is also helpful in taking care of our investment.  We must also keep ourselves updated and always pay attention to news and updates regardless who is giving the news.  Always verify information first hand and can always ask for advice if confused.  Obviously, we need to seek multiple suggestion or advice from different people and weigh their responses.  This way we can be assure that every step we make in our Bitcoin investment can help us to maximize our profit.
425  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: They are milking money out of us on: May 05, 2023, 11:09:46 PM
AI technology and crypto is like a sea with a mixture of water and oil.

Focus on useful utilities that is sensible for crypto in general,  or just stick with Bitcoin, do not be one of those that will have horror stories to say about AI investments in future.
Cryptocurrencies are like stocks. If you have a company, have a product, have utility for your product, you will want to get money from it. Rather than stocks, they go with tokens that are more easily to be launched.

The problem with many cryptocurrency launched is that they are creating projects even without the fund to back up their project.  Most of them are created  to milk money from unsuspecting investors.  Most of the cryptocurrency today can't be compared with stocks because majority of the cryptocurrency projects are created out of thin air and has no actual products but just a token which is intangible and has no purpose  or real life use case at all.

I don't think it is only limited to AI projects, but you can generalize it to altcoin projects which mostly are scam. Without real utility and many of them were launched with a trend. Although I have that stance about altcoins, I disagree with anyone to say altcoins are not needed for the growth of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency ecosystem. They are parts of the ecosystem and contribute for its growth as well as more regulations in this field.

that is what I am saying, most altcoin are just scam, a ponzi scheme where they spread news of huge profit upon investing on the project.

Again regulations are necessary for cryptocurrency ecosystem and I disagree with anyone say regulations are bad for this ecosystem.

I am also one of those that when it comes to crowdfunding, projects should be regulated and registered to both commission and central bank (they intend to cater financial aid from investors so they need a license from the  financial institution) to minimize scams.
426  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is self-meriting possible? on: May 05, 2023, 10:25:13 PM
Well technically, you can merit yourself if you have two (2) accounts that have merits to send on. But if you do not have any alternate accounts, then meriting yourself is impossible in any way.

I believe @OP is talking about an account to merit itself and not by other account owned by the same user.  So technically speaking, the answer will be always a no.

That's funny, because that's what I asked myself 5 years ago or so. In principle you can click on the merit tab and even try to merit yourself, the only thing I preferred to ask at the time rather than merit myself because it could have been seen badly by the community even if it was an experiment if it worked and I got to send a merit to myself..

If you are that curious and wanted to not be the subject of flame, then you can just create a thread on Meta explaining the topic you wanted to explore yourself before trying to check if self-merit is allowed by the forum system.  You can even publish the step by step procedure or make a video of it.  This way you can establish a proof that you are not maliciously intending to use a possible exploit but instead you are just exploring stuff for self-awareness.

bitcoin to be a Ponzi scheme or a quick get rich scheme to give you 1000x immediately you invested.
I just draw out this post due to some post I have been reading across here and it annoys me seeing people or newbies always asking after a platform to give them $100 daily, $50 daily and so on without them even coming to think about how it works or not.

This is imposed by HYIP, Ponzi scheme and scam company.  They enticed their victims by promising huge return of the investment triggering the greed of victims.

As a matter of fact if I should see any post related to this same questions I don't mind reporting them to the moderators.
Why can't you guys read before requesting for what could make you rich over night. Please bitcoin doesn't need to be pressured in other to gain profits and for you to enjoy the investment the only alternative is to choose long term investment period maybe from 1 year to 10 years and enjoy the benefits of bitcoin instead of coming here to make unnecessary noise.

I don't know if I should moved this post to meta or here... Please I will be happy if any of you suggest me.

Investment takes time to yield 100%+ profit.  There is no such thing as instant in an investment.  All needs time, knowledge and effort.  If anyone offers an instant profit, it is more likely a scam.  Aside from that, there is also no such thing as intant 100% in trading.  Like we need to  buy trade, set up a trading strategy and wait for time for our trade to yield 100%.  In bitcoin with its current price, it is near to impossible to  see the price of Bitcoin doubling in just a matter of second.

Sometime we need to use our logical thinking in order to separate legit investment from scam and fraud.  We don't need to learn rocket science for this or make a deep research.  When the offer is too good to be true.  It is not more likely but  100% a scam.

Blame the incident to the growing demand for Bitcoin ordinal inscription.  They don't only bloat the network but also increase the transaction fee for several time.  I am still wondering the importance of this Bitcoin ordinal.  Does the advantage out weight the negative why this Bitcoin ordinal project is not blocked in using the Bitcoin network?

Quote
In all, suggest permanent solution to this problem for bitcoin fans if there is any

You can always send with the highest priority transaction fee cost if you don't mind spending extra dollars to get your transaction get the priority for confirmation.  Aside from the developers side of creating and upgrading the Bitcoin system, this the the only thing we are able to do to solve the current problem If we intend to stay and use Bitcoin.
429  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Is self-meriting possible? on: May 04, 2023, 10:51:53 PM
@OP it is an obvious question that you yourself can answer.  You just need to look at your post and see if the option to merit yourself is allowed.  You already have merit and you could have try it yourself if meriting oneself is possible  Honestly, sometimes we need to work on our exploration than just posting question that can be answered by ourselves.

430  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: what are the ways to learn lesson in easy ways on: May 03, 2023, 03:24:25 PM

the question is how can we try to save newbie's from scams in crypto verse, we and many youtuber are saying that don't send bitcoins, there are many scams, etc. or we should not tell and left them to learn the lesson in hard way, I already listened many people those are in crypto for a while they said many things like don't be greedy, stay away from free crypto, etc. but i just listened and not applied and got scamed one time.

It is hard to control human greed.  Greed once triggered will listen to no one.  But even so, we should always make an effort to remind people we know to take cautious action and think for multiple times if the offer is too good to be true or it is for real.

what are the ways to learn lesson in easy ways and save newbie's from scams?

There is no easy way in learning, we have to strive for it to be able to acquire knowledge.  We need to give time and effort to fully grasp things.  As for saving newbies, it depends on the newbie's open mindedness.  Aside from that, respect and reputation also come to account.  If you have a good reputation, they might listen to your suggestion but if you are not known or is not respected in the community, then any advice you give will be ignored.

What do you think will happen next?

If you don't connect your wallet, obviously nothing will happen but once you connect your wallet, and agree to sign for the site to access your wallet then one thing is certain if the site is setup by a hacker.  Once the site is authorized to connect to the wallet and granted a permission to access the wallet, malware will possibly injected to your system and might auto install a script that will drain your wallets fund.

There are lots of cases like this and some member of this forum fell victim to this kind of scam.
432  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Embrace yourselves for what's coming on: May 03, 2023, 02:37:48 PM
I have long abandoned ETH network due to its high fees.  Since I am only a minnow the $3 gas fee hurt that much.

I also noticed that Bitcoin transaction fee also surge this past days.  The normal $0.5 gas fee became $5+ which is kinda heavy for small transaction.  I look on the reason why the transaction fee of Bitcoin surges and I found that it is caused by the spike of Ordinal adoption.  Now imagine if we are in bull run and Ordinal amass more transaction that will bloat the network.  It looks like the crises before (high transaction fee and unconfirmed transaction) will re-emerge due to the Ordinal inscription.
Check how Ordinals inscription affect the BTC transaction fee.

This ordinal will be one of the major problem of Bitcoin in the future, specifically on the transaction fee if Bitcoin scalability don't upgrade.

Its like youre saying that we should buy now while it still cheap. Thats a good one but I think the gas price increases only when a network has a high percentage of usage and heavily been used. Its not about if its on bear or bull season. If ever eth has been congested due to certain activity now we could experience a surge in gas fee.

I don't know what is the connection of buying ETH right now for having a cheaper fee in the future.  It just don't make sense.
433  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: April 30, 2023, 12:04:08 PM

The law distinguishes between games of skill (which are legal) and games of chance (which are illegal). Legal forms of gambling include the lottery, land-based casinos and sports betting, whereas roulette, dice games and non-skilled card games are considered illegal.
Souce

Isn't the statement conflicting? Since the quoted stated that game of chance is illegal, how come lottery and land based casinos is legal?  We all know lottery is one of the most famous game of chance.  If game of chance is illegal then this should be illegal.   So I think any gambling not regulated by the government is illegal, may it be skill based or chance based when it is unlicensed then it is illegal.

This is one question that i do have in mind is that why they would be penalized on something that they do spend out? If this one pertains about playing on an illegal aspect
then its normal that they did really commit out some violation but of course they would be having that reasoning.

The fact that they commit illegal actions through illegal gambling activity, they will sure get penalized.  In my country, if someone is caught engaging in illegal gambling, they are jailed and fined according to the law.  I think these mother and son excuses themselves from such illegal activity by giving a reason that someone moved their fund, the innocent approach but they are caught empty handed that make them admit the lies.  Thus they are sentenced to 7 years of imprisonment or pay the penalty.

434  Economy / Gambling / Re: Bitcasino.io 🖤 #1 VIP Crypto Casino 💠 Come in and explore our new design ✨ on: April 30, 2023, 11:17:03 AM
Actually a little bit would be better if using the double chance feature rather than buying the spin feature would waste the balance.
Usually, in every slot game at Bitcasino, I almost never buy the buy feature but prefer to take advantage of the double opportunity to take the opportunity to get a free spin bonus and this way I think it will be more economical.

Buying feature is not actually a waste if the double chance is activated and just do the manual spin. Double chance doesn’t guarantee you to hit the free spin. There might be a chance that you will spend more doing manual spin compared if you just bonus buy since double chance gives you an extra cost per spin.

I think player choose to manually spin to trigger bonus round because there are also retruns and winnings in every normal spins.  It enables a small bankroll player to maximize their gameplay.  Like during the 100 auto spins, player can possibly get profit from it while triggering the bonus round or at least regain 50% of their total wagered amount.  That makes getting bonus round cheaper than buying the Bonus round.  Aside from that, when a player is unlucky, he might get zero tumble during the bonus round making the amount used to buy the Bonus round a total lost unlike the situation I stated.

It’s all about luck on choosing the best option. The most important to consider is you will enjoy playing no matter what setup you made on your spin. I do changing my spin settings randomly with and without double chance just to luckily hit a free spin with lesser cost.

Slot is random so I play it randomly too.  Cheesy

Lol, well, there's no harm to approach slots game in random manner, like mix action of spinning your way to trigger bonus round buying it.  Luck is the identifier if you win or lose in this game anyway.
435  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On location with broken phone; How to pay? (Bitcoin, Monero, or ectc.) on: April 30, 2023, 10:55:43 AM
If you are a regular you might be allowed to pay later, just to keep that customer owner relationship  going, but if not verbal agreements are going to be a tough thing to get to as the guys might have trust issues....but to avoid all this plan your day and have backup solutions to settle your bill.

In a business standpoint, verbal agreement is not accepted, creating a promissory note notarized by a lawyer is the way to go but it makes things more complicated just because of an unpaid single meal.  It is either you need to leave some valuable items not less than the amount of value of the meal to ensure that you will come back to pay for the bill.  You also need to create a written agreement that you voluntarily left your items and will come back to settle the amount to retrieve your item.  The written agreement is for the security of both party.  That is one solution if the owner of the establishment agree or propose the idea.  Else you will end up talking to police authority and talk your way out to settle your bill.

Here is one scenario if a person failed to pay his bill: https://www.mentalfloss.com/posts/what-happens-if-cant-pay-restaurant-bill
Quote
Sometimes, restaurants will ask for collateral—like your phone or ID—to ensure your return. Some places will call law enforcement to record your information before you leave; but as long as you reappear with valid payment in a timely manner, you probably won’t be charged with any wrongdoing. Intentionally dining and dashing is a little different—and you could end up in legal trouble, depending on state laws. But if you make an honest mistake, there’s a good chance the restaurant will work with you to remedy it without taking you to court

So the best thing @OP can do is always bring an alternative means to pay his expenditure, in case his phone accidentally broke.
436  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How useful is Bitcoin to the youth? on: April 30, 2023, 10:36:08 AM
This article[1] is one good read on how useful Bitcoin to the youth is.  It was stated that Bitcoin is one of the youth's mean of achieving universal freedom.  Just like how youth indulge in online social media business interaction, integrating Bitcoin into their planned business will enable them to process transaction without the need of intermediaries.  Aside from that Bitcoin, in absence of job opportunity, can be an alternative earning and can support them to attain financial independence.

In addition, since Bitcoin is decentralized and no financial institution is involved, youth can have full control of their funds themselves.

437  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin could hit $100,000 by the end of 2024 - Standard Chartered - Surprised? on: April 29, 2023, 10:59:19 PM
They keyword here is: could

bitcoin could hit $100,000
bitcoin could hit $10,000
bitcoin could hit $1,000,000
bitcoin could hit $100

Could just means that there's a (albeit non-zero) possibility — not necessarily that it will happen.

All these statement here are "possibility statement" which are not "True" and even if is true how certain are they by saying " ". Hence is a "biconditional statement" where the predictor or speculator are not yet fully convinced it will happen how they said but are still having thought or thinking it could be but not sure (false), it can only be true with the two results are said to be "T" (outcome).

What would we expect, it is a prediction and prediction is always a biconditional since it may or may not happen.  It isn't that they are not convinced (since them stating it is a sign that they believe that the possibility of the statrment to happen is high) but it is ( the use of "could" in the statement) a safe statement to say especially when declaring it on public.  It gives them an escape route if ever the prediction do not happen.

438  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Where is your stand as a Bitcoin holder. on: April 29, 2023, 10:33:18 PM
From all the BTCs I had received from participating in campaign signatures, I can say that I at least belong to the top 5% of the BTC HODLers. But due to the same situation that you have mentioned, majority of my BTCs have been liquidated and converted to our respective currencies.

Back in 2017 when I first joined this forum, I remember that 1 BTC = $4,000. It was a time where campaign signatures would pay 0.001/week and it was considered at least a relatively small amount back then. I just wished that I had foreseen this exact situation where its price skyrocketed in the market as I could have HODLed them for long-term advantage.
Actually, a signature campaign can be a backup to save more bitcoins as long as they earn but if it becomes a necessity then it is better to liquidate it in fiat because it will help you live a better life.

We feel that the bitcoin price in 2017 was high but it is no different from now when the bitcoin price is $29k then a few years later it will definitely skyrocket again and be bigger than now I believe that is because bitcoin will go through a cycle of becoming routine every year it will be better for HODL from now on and keep it up.

Some people may not be able to hold back because they clash with mediocre living needs, when they get a profit it will turn it into fiat for the needs that everyone needs.

I think I can stay HODL. If there is an urgent need to liquidate the BTC.

I agree signature campaign can help us accumulate Bitcoin and be among those top percentage if we are persistent and consistent enough to accumulate for the long term.  With job in RL and extra earning that pays in BTC, the said accumulation is not impossible to happen.

I am currently way below the listed group but I am hopeful that one day I can tell myself (obviously not public for security reason) that I have done a nice job accumulating and hodling Bitcoin and be a part at least the 50m Satoshi club.
439  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: On location with broken phone; How to pay? (Bitcoin, Monero, or ectc.) on: April 29, 2023, 10:12:44 PM
Hello everyone, Suppose I want to pay for my consumed meal in a restaurant. But my phone with wallet, (or my hardware wallet) just broke; How do I pay then? Is there a crypto solution that I can still pay? Or is the only solution, that I have to make a verbal promise with the shop owner.

Regarding Bitcoin, Monero, or ectc.

Thanks for the answers.  Wink

I would say the best advice is given by the first reply.  Pay with cash. If your phone is broke, you won't be able to use it, thus you can't pay with your phone.  Honestly this kind of situation only needs a little logical thinking.  If you don't have the means to pay in cryptocurrency then pay with cash.

Or if you have laptop in you and you have installed wallet on that laptop or centralized account that holds a crypto balance then you can use your laptop to pay with your meal.

440  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which one is important? Knowledge or Experience? Or both in Bitcoin Learning! on: April 29, 2023, 07:21:29 AM
Experience is always the best teacher. That doesn't mean that knowledge is not require or neccessary. Someone who has experience is far better than knowledge because experience is series of hard work and multiple mistakes. Experience is practically achieved and knowledge is mostly theorical.

You cannot separate the two.  Knowledge comes from experience and theoretical learnings.  So knowledge is much broader scope of learning which come from both reading and experience.  And I can say bot plays crucial parts in everything so we cannot compare the two and choose one between them.  Whether you choose experience or knowledge, once you practice both, they both yeild each other.

In bitcoin investment, i d' rather go to someone with much experience because he has made a mistake before and learnt from them.
Experience is the combination of theoritical and practical learning, so both are required.

I'd rather go with the person who has both the knowledge and experience for maximum output.  Grin
