461  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: T-Mobile US ‘incredibly angry’ at Experian over data breach on: October 03, 2015, 11:39:08 PM

Oh boy, 15 million identities goes through the window just like that. This really is crazy. All centralized companies with one single entity are dangerous as hell. One breach and there you go. 46 millions in Ashley Madison hack, 15 millions now in T-mobile.

Decentralized definitely is the future and way to go. Sooner everybody realizes that the better!

What does this mean - "all centralized companies  with one single entity are dangerous as hell" - this doesn't make sense? All centralized companies, by definition, are single entities...otherwise they'd be a decentralized company.

Further, this has nothing to do with the propensity for data breaches...seriously.

With that said, the use of bitcoin does take some of that information out of transactions but a company like T-Mobile will still need the names and numbers and addresses of their customers and can track the bitcoin addresses used by those people to pay their bill.
462  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Case. It arrived! on: October 03, 2015, 11:25:14 PM
This is the most positive feature for me ---> " Case doesn't rely on your phone or computer for Internet access. It has built-in GSM with free unlimited transactions in over 100 countries!"

Me too!

The features seem really good, but the casing itself looks a bit flimsy to me.

How can you tell that it's flimsy by looking at a picture on a computer? You can't.

Seems like a great wallet, how long does the internal electronics last? The last thing I'd want to do is use it as a vault, put it away for ten years and come back to a blank screen...then I'd be f*cked!
463  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Keeping your bitcoins safe - Academic Survey 2015 on: October 03, 2015, 11:08:17 PM

The results will be published with my thesis. My goal is to make this thesis to be useful and informative for new bitcoiners.

The  best way to keep your published results useful to bitcoiners is to post them with your thesis on this Forum. Please commit to us in this request. We spend our time and thoughts giving you your research. We do not ask for payment in return. We do ask for the results of the study to be shared with us so we can be educated by our collective responses.

Very, very few people that come here asking for survey responses post their results. Do better than others before you. Thanks.
464  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SyriaRelief.org is accepting BTC donations. Lets show support for the refugees. on: October 03, 2015, 11:05:48 PM
Here's some more detail on the validity of this organization and their cause to help Syrian people.

88.8% of each pound (or Dollar) goes directly to the Syrian people...that's a pretty high portion!

From the website: "The UK website CharityChoice reports our donation breakdown. It shows for every £1 donated, 88.8p goes directly to our beneficiaries. 0.4p is spent on admin and 10.8p is spent on raising more funds. For every £1 that we spend on fundraising, £9.53 is raised."
465  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Did you earn some bitcoin today? on: October 03, 2015, 11:02:20 PM
Cheesy hey, from where I can have such a paying sig? its really interesting and I want to earn too, using this method

Bojan, great question. The first thing you should do is hunt for information on this forum. If it's ever talked about on a thread you can bet (serious money) that there's more detail on the topic on this forum somewhere. Use the search function and type in "Signature" and see what comes up. Also, consider looking at other boards such as "Services"  or "Services Discussion" since selling your signature space would be considered a service.

Good luck to you.

Keep those posts constructive!  Wink

467  Economy / Economics / Re: Hurdles to Negative Interest Rates. What Do You Think? on: October 03, 2015, 06:21:50 AM

Remember, this needs to be done in two steps, as mentioned by Buttonwood. Cash must be abolished before rates go negative, or else people would just store physical cash to avoid negative interest.

The trouble comes from gold, silver and Bitcoin. These can be used instead of cash to escape negative interest. It's easy to ban an asset (cash) issued by the authorities -- they only have to remove the asset's legal status. With the non-state-issued sorts, an actual ban would have to be enforced, and countries would have to co-operate.

There would be a big incentive for a country to break rank on this ban, to enjoy a windfall in capital inflow. A lot would depend on the ability of the dominant world power (US) to whip countries into line. The country that breaks rank would also need to be able to defend itself militarily, or else another war might be waged for mysterious reasons to effect "regime change" in that country.

Another major hurdle is that the ban on cash would almost have to be announced for reasons other than negative interest (since the Western public won't enjoy handing power to their elites to reduce their wealth by arbitrary degrees.) Most likely, it would be following a major terrorist incident. Certainly, the ban on gold, silver, and Bitcoin would be announced under the same justification, but if enough of these assets are held by people who understand that the real reason is negative rates, the ban would probably not be effective.

There's no way that cash could be banned without the public knowing it. Negative interest rates don't benefit the government or banks so there would be no incentive to support negative interest rates for the long term. It's an option of last resort for temporary relief and it can't be implemented in all aspects. First, banks can't get away with charging to keep assets with them (I realize you know this since you make the point about hoarding cash). Second, the effort wouldn't force people to borrow money they don't need to borrow. Third, it would reinforce more investment in stocks, etc., which wouldn't help the economy.

Negative interest rates is a short term solution to help get through a tough spot, that's it.
468  Economy / Economics / POLL: Bitcoin Inequality on: October 03, 2015, 06:16:09 AM
Vote honestly. If you change your mind, change your vote!

Feel free to debate your side in the comments below.

Godspeed.
469  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin wealth inequality and why it is bad on: October 03, 2015, 06:12:45 AM
What's inequal is the way this poll is written.'

You either agree with the OP's contention that wealth inequality is wrong. Or you don't know anything. Or you need to "Get The Fuck Out". Really fair, eh? Don't be an idiot!

If you had a Million Euro and I didn't, would you give me (a stranger) half just to be fair, fuck no you wouldn't! So don't act like you're against it!

If you want real results you should provide poll options that don't lead to bias answers, here...I'll show you how to do it. Pay close attention now, I don't want to do it twice and you NEED the education!
470  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just need directions and a little help on: October 03, 2015, 06:06:45 AM
This isn't completely accurate - you can mine and MAKE money, it just takes a lot of money to get started and a lot of time. It's the same has trying to pan for gold on your own and make a living at it...it just isn't worth it anymore. You can find gold but not a lot. And it's that low ROI that keeps people from doing with with their PCs. Instead they use mining machines, specifically configured to conduct the processing needed to complete the algorithms.

Man i`m really bored of newbies asking always the same question. And no disrespect to you but it is annoying.

No shit, it's like these people don't bother to read anything on the forum to learn before they ask questions. But I guess their questions are our personal gain...
471  Other / Meta / Re: How can I recover a purchased account that I have lost access to? on: October 03, 2015, 06:01:26 AM
If you don't have the email address I doubt they'll let you change the password (and therefore obtain access) based just on your word.

So you sold it to a friend and they sold it to someone else? Sounds like it isn't yours anymore anyway! If it's still in possession of your friend, why not ask them?

Badbear and Theymos are known for recovering hacked accounts, I haven't heard of anything regarding bought account. You can try your luck and sign a message from your own address, requesting for recovery of the account together with the signed message from that account proving the ownership transfer.

The OP never said the account was hacked!
472  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SyriaRelief.org is accepting bitcoin donations. We should help! on: October 03, 2015, 05:58:13 AM

How is this bitcoin being used to help Syrian people? With so many people fleeing to European countries, would it not be better to give money to the support organizations in these countries?

What percentage of each Bitcoin donated actually goes to the Syrian people in need?
473  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Double Spending - How To? on: October 03, 2015, 05:54:26 AM
To keep this simple, let's assume I am using a wallet like Bitcoin Wallet by Bitcoin Wallet developers on an Android smartphone. I go into a coffee shop and buy using my bitcoin wallet. I understand that it is going to take about 5 to 10 minutes before the transaction is first registered on the Blockchain.

How can I then "double spend" my bitcoin?

Ha, you want to cheat and spend money you've already spent? What an ass! Why do you want to be a cheat? A fraud?
474  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: October 03, 2015, 05:16:59 AM
playtodos stops their signature campaign on the 5th of October and they don't accept anymore participants? If so, they will be removed from the OP. No reason to keep them in there.

Hey Mitchell, who said that Playtodos is stopping their campaign?

Thanks.
475  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Multiple Signature Campaigns on: October 03, 2015, 05:15:09 AM
Is it possible to join multiple signature campaigns? allowed?

Hey, instead of trying to set up multiple signature campaigns, why don't you switch to one that pays you more than YoBit (the lowest paying campaign on this forum)?
476  Economy / Collectibles / Re: PHYSICAL COPY - A Complete Guide to Physical Bitcoins - [25/100] reserved on: October 02, 2015, 11:22:37 PM
Elianite, CONGRATULATIONS!

Very excited to see you've filled your 25 book quota and are not expanding beyond...what great success! Clearly there's good demand for these books, I can't wait to see it!
477  Economy / Goods / Re: I will order your Amazon items with my prime account for your BTC--20% off ! on: October 02, 2015, 11:14:12 PM
20% off order total

no minimum order.

max order is $800

we can use localbitcoins for escrow

I have over 100 trades there with 100% feedback    and over 150btc traded

you must agree to release escrow after i show proof of orderered item to your address

How much does local bitcoins charge for escrow?

I'll be in and will ONLY release escrow after having received item. It's way too easy for you to forge an order verification and what stops you from canceling the order after you've received the funds? Are you trying to take advantage of the time arbitrage between placed order and how fast you'll receive payment from escrow vs. the days it takes to put an order in the mail?
478  Economy / Goods / Re: Buy Anything From Amazon With Bitcoins on: October 02, 2015, 11:10:31 PM
This is such bullshit, like the story of the guy that "bought pizza with bitcoin."

Giving you bitcoin so you can buys something from Amazon with cash is not buying something from Amazon with bitcoin.

I need to buy some things from Amazon, I'd go through you, but you have to pay and deliver the goods first - then I'll send payment and whatever fair fee you're charging.

Cheers.
479  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: good places to hide paper wallet ? on: October 02, 2015, 11:08:17 PM
please don't give me silly places, I really want to hide it in secure place

Ok, maybe my suggestions were silly. But after you've hidden it it may be easy to forget where it was hidden. I suggest posting on this thread where it was hidden so you have a record of it incase you ever forget!
480  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: good places to hide paper wallet ? on: October 02, 2015, 11:06:47 PM
Here's two great places to hide something:

This watch I got here was first                                                                                                                                                                   purchased by your great-granddaddy
It was bought during the First World
War in a little general store in
                         Knoxville, Tennessee. It was bought
                         by private Doughboy Ernie Coolidge
the day he set sail for Paris. It
                         was your great-granddaddy's war watch,
made by the first company to ever
make wrist watches. You see, up until
                         then, people just carried pocket
                         watches. Your great-granddaddy wore
that watch every day he was in the
war. Then when he had done his duty,
he went home to your great-
grandmother, took the watch off his
wrist and put it in an ol' coffee
                         can.
And in that can it stayed 'til
                         your grandfather Dane Coolidge was
called upon by his country to go
overseas and fight the Germans once
again. This time they called it World
                         War Two. Your great-granddaddy gave
it to your granddad for good luck.
                         Unfortunately, Dane's luck wasn't as
good as his old man's. Your granddad
was a Marine and he was killed with
all the other Marines at the battle
of Wake Island. Your granddad was
facing death and he knew it. None of
those boys had any illusions about
ever leavin' that island alive. So
three days before the Japanese took
                         the island, your 22-year old
grandfather asked a gunner on an Air
Force transport named Winocki, a man
he had never met before in his life,
to deliver to his infant son, who he
had never seen in the flesh, his
gold watch. Three days later, your
                         grandfather was dead. But Winocki
kept his word. After the war was
over, he paid a visit to your
                         grandmother, delivering to your infant
father, his Dad's gold watch. This
watch. This watch was on your Daddy's
wrist when he was shot down over
Hanoi. He was captured and put in a
Vietnamese prison camp. Now he knew
if the gooks ever saw the watch it'd
be confiscated. The way your Daddy
looked at it, that watch was your
birthright. And he'd be damned if
and slopeheads were gonna put their
greasy yella hands on his boy's
birthright. So he hid it in the one
place he knew he could hide somethin'.
                         His ass.
Five long years, he wore
this watch up his ass. Then when he
died of dysentery, he gave me the
watch. I hid with uncomfortable hunk
of metal up my ass for two years.
Then, after seven years, I was sent
home to my family. And now, little
man, I give the watch to you.
