How are we doing on this?

https://github.com/Anoncoin/anoncoin/issues/35

Now that we are done with RSA UFO generation, this should be one of the last steps before Zerocoin beta can begin right?

Thanks!
its not "done". its still an ongoing process

464  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 03, 2014, 02:27:18 AM
How far do you suppose one could take this thing?

In near future (except improving Trezor for bitcoin signing usage like BIP70 and multisig) we plan to turn Trezor into identity management token, something similar like failed myIDkey. In contrary to megalomaniacal vision of myIDkey, we want to start with low hanging fruit and improve stuff as time go.

There's already proof of concept for harddisk encryption protected by Trezor: https://github.com/trezor/python-trezor/blob/master/tools/encfs_aes_getpass.py This works only on Linux, but the concept can be implemented on any OS.

There's plenty possibilities how to integrate Trezor with all stuff directly, like PEM modules on Unix (ssh), Windows login, website authentication, email encryption and signatures etc.

It's really wide scope. Let's see how much interest of Trezor there'll be in Bitcoin community first :-).
It would be awesome if there would be LUKS support.

Explorers, Distribution and Big Whale Wallets should not be one of the Concerns of ANC fans.

We will never know for sure who the wallet belongs to nor will we ever know the correct Distribution

I'm not concerned,  and that top wallets are not so big if you look other coins..
What someone mentioned one or two times on forum,
problem is that ANC devs don't have much ANC

ANC isnt made for the devs, so why should we have tons of ANC?
Owning ANC means there is a financial incentive to make the coin succeed and become valuable. If the developer(s) owns peanuts (and refuses to buy at these low prices), it indicates a complete lack of faith in not only the zerocoin implementation being released in september, but the future of ANC as a whole.

The more invested, the more reason they have to work on improving the coin.

The less invested, the less reason to give a shit.
Good point.
Tough i think almost all ANC devs have "some" ANC, i dont know why he came up with it.

I for one, am not a "dev" to make profits, but to create something awesome.
466  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Trezor: Bitcoin hardware wallet on: August 02, 2014, 05:56:08 PM
If you lose your Trezor you can take the same (12, 18, 24 words + optional passphrase) seed, enter it into a new Trezor and recover your entire wallet history and all of your BTC.

So yes, if someone else gets your (12, 18, 24 word + optional passphrase) seed then they can take all of your BTC.

So be sure to keep that information in a very safe place.

And for backup all you need to do is keep copies of your seed information offsite in a safe place.

The way it works all you need is that seed information to recover everything.

Correct. People are sometimes surprised that we recommend using paper and pencil instead of encrypted file in cloud. Actually, for long term storage, paper is many degrees more reliable than any digital media or some cool cloud service.

Or that said, do anybody still have any casette reader or floppy drive? I don't have even DVD ROM. But I'm pretty sure anybody will be able to recover master private key from paper & BIP39 specification in >20 years.

So - if you worry about long term storage, simply make enough copies of recovery seed and store them on different places.
If you loose your device, do you need a new trezor to recover the coins or is there a tool to do so?

I also briefly considered selling my Trezor on ebay too, but didn't because:

a. wanted to give slush/stick a chance
b. slush created this thing and slush pool is respected ergo mytrezor wallet ain't gonna disappear (I hope)
c. it's a really cool looking and performing device. and right now it is rare.
d. trezor's recovery words on paper provide offline assurance ala paper wallet
e. works securely on keylogged and hacked computers at say internet cafes or your grandma's house
f. trezor software is open source

Right now, trezor only works at mytrezor.com's wallet. I'd rather have it integrated with my imac's bitcoin-qt. Dunno if any wallet developer will spend time doing the integration with trezor device without bitcoin compensation or something more than free trezors. It's gonna be a long wait.

I'd pay plenty extra if a password manager like 1password put in trezor integration for initial login or encryption/decryption.
Armory will implement TREZOR support

I've messaged and e-mailed maxsolnc, the owner of datacoin.info, to see if he'll accept free hosting so we can keep the site going. No reply yet, if anyone can contact him more directly please put him in touch with me, thanks.

Would it be possible to give a conservative, realistic estimate for when the Zerocoin testnet will be up an running? I think that most of us realize that software projects take longer than anticipated, and some of the discontent in this thread is based on the fact that previous estimates were, in retrospect, overly optimistic. If you could make a conservative estimate, and then multiply the time by two, that will shut many people up for awhile...
[...]

September 20th.

Thanks for all your hard work Gnosis!

Is this still a realistic goal? I don't mean to rush you, in fact I mean to see you rewarded!

We know that the zerocoin implementation project is very complex.  Is there some amount of ANC or BTC we can provide (along with lots of caffeine and snacks) along the way to help motivate you reach certain checkpoints?

I think there are others in the community who would be willing to help fund a bounty of some sort for your work, so long as you keep providing us with updates.

We think you and the entire development team are great!
We've set up a general donation address (see here https://wiki.anoncoin.net/Donate), but unless Gnosis makes a specific request, this will mostly be used for web and pr related things. As soon as we reach 100 ANC, some of the first bounties we might start thinking about will be a new web design, translations for other languages, and the writing of an article that compares the various bitcoin-related privacy solutions that are currently available.
new web design is already covered

Simply "Mind your own business"

"Mine your own business"  Grin

Really like "Mind your own business" - the playword with "mine" is relevant only to miners, possibly too nerdy for wider adoption...
agree.

we are not related to the anonymous group

Each one supports Anoncoin according to its possibilities and time. No one is hyping the coin here.
And you, apart criticize, how do you support your first coin? Are you working with the devs to improve anonimity? Are you sharing some CPU power for the ufo_client of Gnosis?

First coin was some other digital currency. Second coin was bitcoin. Anoncoin later, but anoncoin is potentially best.

I support the idea of anoncoinbuy, for example, but I would not buy something unless it had real value. I don't want to just "buy something to show my support". The value of a specific coin should not rest in convincing others it has value. If I want to pretend then there are lots of coins to pretend with.

As for sharing cpu power all of my electricity comes from one 40 watt panel. If I had spare electricity I might or might not use some of it for that.

When I mention a coin, either online or to a person, it is not because someone thinks the coin should be mentioned. I try to stick with facts. x coin seems cheap, y coin is dogshit, z coin has a cool concept etc.

If you or anyone wants to pump anoncoin please do it, I will move to another coin. Twitter fine, mention facts or useful information. Donate coin to pay someone to write articles? No thanks. If I see something in the coin to write an article about I will write. Same with press release. I can cook up a press release for real news for free. Is there real news that warrants a press release? No. Not yet.

Coinpayments.net? You want someone to buy anc with fiat then send the anc to Boris who changes it back to fiat? A currency requires an ecosystem and that is still nascent with bitcoin, let alone anoncoin. A closed system would promote the coin genuinely, as was used early with bitcoin to put small amounts of bitcoin with many people. Coinpayments benefits the site owner and the merchants only. They get 'visibility and traction', very little. Really, if you mention anc and coinpayments a thousand times a day online fully 999 out of those thousand everyone who reads it will roll their eyes and say "yay, more hype".

It's a famous saying that no person ever went broke overestimating the stupidity of the consumer. But coins are different. Pumping a coin with hot air will cause a temporary rise, but only coins that avoid that tactic will last.

I agree with your point of view.
When I mentionned coinpayments.net that was just to tell that ANC was back there because some days ago someone wrote on the forum that ANC was removed from coinpayments. I really don't think that I'm able to pump the coin with this information. Even no one here is able to pump ANC at this time. The only people able to do it are Meeh and Gnosis with new wallet and zerocoin implementation.
Since I started anoncoinbuy, I sold 10 tshirts and all the ANC I received for are on my wallet now. I don't plan to convert them to fiat because I believe in ANC for the long term.
Sorry for my english but I hope you will understand me. See you guy!
Im interested in some ANC tshirts with the new logo Wink

You say that these things can reject you from coin,
then Bitcoin with all propaganda reject you the most?

ANC has no PR, and maybe only you think he do not need that.

I see last 5-7 days there is no much posts, maybe ppl are on vacation,
or they expect more news, and zerocoin asap.

All will change after zerocoin, and your or my posts will not be most visible : )

I'll take any criticism,  I want the best to ANC,
and  I will ask you to help ANC on any kind of way if you can and want.

Bitcoin did not need propaganda. Anyone who went around spamming people about bitcoin did not help bitcoin. Bitcoin succeeds even though some people sabotage it by spamming and pumping it.

As for zerocoin, the latest in a long line of anonymous currencies, who knows.

The nsa has full access to any computer that has any software from windows, adobe, etc. They have full access to raw endpoint data to and from every ip address in the united states and also in many foreign countries. They have been making their data available to many law enforcement agencies only with the condition that its source be camouflaged. I spent a lot of time in latin america in the 80s and asia and so on. I know what the u.s. supports and the lengths it will go. Anonymous online currency? Be careful.
Agree on the second part. Thats why we (community) should create detailed "Guides/HowTos" for ppl on using ANC on a "safe" linux distro.

Until it gets merged with what?

The datacoin source code doesn't seem to have any hardcoded dns seeds, unless I'm just looking in the wrong place (/src/net.cpp), the original author just commented out the primecoin ones.

correct, thats why i created a fork and sent a pull request. but i never got any response nor accept/decline. some/alot (depends on how many ppl use datacoin) used this branch (as seen by my dnsseed) but it aint free and i see no reason to support something which is dead, or a dev who cant simply merge a pull request.

Have you tried sending it again? I really wonder what happened to the dev at this point.
No need to "send again", its not something you can miss.
He stopped to respons to PMs (not only me) and vanished completely afterwards.
