481  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Scratch Offs on: March 16, 2024, 09:57:28 PM
So while we are on the discussion and topic of gambling, I wonder if there has every been a scratch off ticket thread?

I was at the gas station today and I said screw it lets get two $1 scratch of tix because why not.

The first one was a flop, but the second one was a winner! I won one lol Just $1. Whoopty doo lol

So I used that winner ticket to go and buy another ticket, and guess what!? The same thing happened again and I won one lol.

I am going to go back tomorrow and get another one and see what happens and keep you guys posted!

Here is a fun question: What is the most you have ever won off of a scratch off ticket? What brand ticket was it?

interesting topic, I can relate here and what I will say is my experience when I was a college student, tho I am in a legal age but my parents don't really allow me in any gambling related activities, then one time, I was at the mall and I passed by at the scratch it mini booth,Out of curiousity because there's a lot of people and elders has been there, so I tried the Go banana which is I think a local name in our country, it costs 20 php or 0.36$ and when  the day I played it, I got lucky because 3 same numbers came out. which is 1000 PHP and voila, my 0.36$ has become 17.98$. After I won I stopped, since then I have not tried to play scratch it again.
482  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Couple won the jackpot but split soon after! on: March 16, 2024, 12:41:19 PM
It's unfortunate that the couple split after winning a jackpot. Splitting the prize equally is the best solution for their situation. 50/50 share will help prevent tension and stress for both, and of course, there will be fairness and avoid conflicts. It's better to find mutually agreeable resolutions than have ego battles since it rarely leads to positive outcomes. Always maintain calm, be fair and have communication.
yeah, truly unfortunate and actually almost all the people here on the forum have already given advice similar to what you said, that it should be done through a smooth and calm conversation and if it happens to break up, since both of you are eligible for the money, it is better that 50 /50 is to be divided, but it really depends on a person and to their attitude, because there are other people who once hold a big chunk of money, their attitude and dealings with other people change.
483  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling is really unexpected on: March 16, 2024, 11:24:05 AM
This story has a happy ending because the author began to limit his losses and play for small amounts. This is the right strategy. We cannot know whether we will win, but we can very precisely control the amount of our loss. Plans to rest after winning and reflect on your victory also seem quite reasonable. This is necessary in order not to make hasty decisions that could cast doubt on the winnings already achieved. Buying a physical product that you can hold in your hands is also the right decision.

Agree! this is one of the things we should emulate, because we can learn a lesson from the experience he shared with us. That's what we should do, we need to know when to stop once we have reached the target amount we want to get, let's not be greedy.
OP also did a good thing that what he won went to a good cause so that somehow he has a remembrance of the money he earned from gambling.
484  Economy / Economics / Re: Why Bitcoin is the only crypto you should BUY on: March 15, 2024, 09:02:33 PM
Although Bitcoin is considered the most popular and dominant digital gold. And it is also a safe investment because the risk is small and good for the long term which will produce lots of profits, and that is one of the reasons why many people or investors should own Bitcoin. Because Bitcoin is better, other than choosing something else.
Because actually this is not the only cryptocurrency worth investing in. You can look for many other crypto assets that may be more profitable such as Ethereum (ETH), Binance Coin (BNB), Cardano (ADA) and many more. And it depends on your expectations from investing in this industry.

You can invest in other coins/assets in crypto but since we all know that bitcoin is the mother coin of crypto, they will definitely invest in bitcoin especially if their prospect is a long term investment or the money they will use for their investment is limited. Bitcoin has shown stability especially now that its value has increased even more and if there will be a correction in the market movement, some holders or investors will be satisfied that this digital coin will not fall to zero value.
485  Economy / Economics / Re: Early exposure of children to wealth and investments on: March 15, 2024, 01:29:44 PM
As long as teaching about good money management and investment is done within reasonable limits, I don't think it will cause problems for children. Because talking about learning about good financial management and investment is something that is quite important for our children to understand, because this is initial preparation before they are truly adults and able to be responsible for all the decisions they make.

However, if this learning is done too excessively, then instead of the results of the learning being able to make our child even better, in fact the result of learning being too excessive, this could actually make the child's growth and development worse, because at an early age he have to endure heavy mental and emotional stress. Learning about finances and their management is indeed very important for every child to get, but we must remember that everything is done in accordance with the measure. So that children do not feel burdened by learning. Because the capacities of children and adults are different, and if learning is delivered beyond the child's capacity, not only will the learning be wasted, but this will also have a bad impact on the child's mental health.

I agree with everything you mentioned, There is nothing wrong if we teach them at a young age how to handle their own money so that as they grow older they carry with them what was taught to them when they were young, There is nothing wrong especially if we will let them be independent and have their freedom when it comes to their spending habits, but as you mentioned, it will only be worse if there is coercion going on, or maybe the child is already traumatized and pressured by teaching them about handling their own savings and investment since we probably understand that we have a different ways of accepting and adopting the changes that are happening around us.
Naku!

487  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Need Suggestion From Filipino Citizen receiving gcash from abroud on: March 15, 2024, 11:36:27 AM
Just a heads up and I forgot to mention which is crucial to this topic. If ever the OP decided to use gcash and just use PH number to register which is possible since I have friend that use gcash app on Canada.

There’s a feature now on gcash which transaction protection. This feature will make sender have the ability to refund the transaction just like Paypal which is very dangerous feature for a transaction like this. I hope that he will not a victim in case he decided to use Gcash to receive payment.

Thanks for the heads up! I hope nothing like that happens because it would be embarrassing for OP if he experiences another scam from our kababayan, right? Since you've mentioned about the transaction protection, I hope whoever the OP is transacting with, don't try to cheat and steal money from him , we all work here and looking for other ways to have additional income but hopefully not in a bad way.
488  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling mistake repeated by the gamblers on: March 15, 2024, 11:20:24 AM
I am sure over confidence must be avoided in anything you do, not only gambling. Gamblers are corrupted by over confidence after their first ever big win. I think exeggarated confidence is weakness.
Another issue I believe with gamblers is that they sometimes do not give up. Some gamblers grow hatred towards some specific game after they experience extraordinary amount of losses. And they just keep trying. Sometimes its must better to give up, clear your mind and return to gamble with another game.

Maybe they thought that because they had won a large amount of money before, they were good and they really knew every nook and cranny of gambling? But no, because we all know that  gambling is too broad to discuss and I believe that if it is not because of luck why we win, maybe it is also because of the Smart strategy that good and veteran gamblers make that is why they win. truly that we can't be over confident in gambling especially since we are not sure when we will be lucky enough to win.
489  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can you stake on a potential(obvious) loosing team just for love? on: March 15, 2024, 10:38:53 AM
Question: Can you have so much love for your team to behave like this guy that even when you know your love fans team would loose a match, would you still further stake on the match against your team?
Remember that we are catching funs here and whoever chasing after profits is at its own will.

This is not love for your team, it's simply foolishness. Gambling is actually a game of fun but there's no any form of fun in deliberately losing your money even when you know your favorite team will lose. You can not just be wasting money deliberately and claim it love for your team. You can support your favorite team by sticking with them even during struggling time i.e losing streak, buying their jersey, buying ticket to watch their games and some other ways possible to support them. For the love I have for my team, I don't always gamble on their games unless the ones I am so confident they will win and if they eventually lose, I do feel the pain.

It is not a foolishness as long as you take it as a fun bet (not to make money). When you know that your favorite team has so low chance to win means that the odds is big so placing a small bet will be fun as it may give something nice if your favorite team win the match unexpectedly. It will be a foolishness if you do it all the time and with decent amount of every bet merely because you are a fan of the team.

Exactly! It's not foolishness because that's the way you show your support to your team, there are many people who do the same thing, they just don't want to admit it because this is how others immediately think and comment, but that's how it really is when you're loyal to your team, no matter what happens, you will support them and not leave them, and besides, you will just bet on them but it is not said that you will bet a large amount, it's like what, a small token as support.
490  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling between the past and nowadays on: March 15, 2024, 09:55:08 AM
I totally agree that technology has transformed the gambling industry, making it more accessible and enticing to a wider range of people. The ability to gamble from anywhere and at any time has played a significant role in the growth of online gambling. The proliferation of mobile devices has also had an impact, as consumers may now gamble on the go. And the introduction of virtual reality gaming has added a new degree of immersion, making it even more appealing to players. It's a very fascinating and ever-changing industry.
But it's important to also note that the emergence of online casinos and mobile app can also create room for individuals to get addicted even faster because having the ability to gamble anytime and anywhere can also make them gamble anyhow. For those who cannot control themselves, this could be really disastrous because they'll find themselves gambling more often which could result to loss chasing, incurring more losses for themselves.
We can see how the internets gives an easiness to many business including in the gambling business. With the advanced of the technology, gambling industries improves their technology by implements the internet to their business and many casinos now spreads their business in the internet. In the future, there will be another changing on the gambling industries since there are many new technologies will be created, including the virtual reality that helps people gets a new experienced for playing gambling. They will use a new gadgets that will connect them to the site and feel the different experiences than before. They can playing gambling in anywhere and anytime they wants without any border. But this can gives more problems complexity because when people doesn't have good self-control or doesn't want to learned about controlling themselves while playing gambling, they will becomes addicted to gambling and that will gives a bad impact to their lives.

The more optimized the process gets the easier gamblers lose their control. Gambling at home helped increase the high rate of gambling addicts. This happened as a result of accessibility. Waking up next to our gadgets which leads us to gambling is different from moving from our home to the casino. Gamblers now had to fight the difficulty in controlling themselves from gambling on gadgets each day. Which seem quite impossible. Unlike in the past when gamblers after of period of thoughts can decide not to visit the casino, due to stress or transportation cost. Today gamblers suffer from addiction as the regulatory measures for figuring out underage player is not adequate.

Casinos have better advantage on finding out who is underage or not. Online gambling puts lots of risk on teenagers who have the drive for more money. And careless about their self-control. Peeping through the future, one could say that the fresh technologies wouldn't come with one that reduces addiction. It all gets better but facilitates addiction. Which is a problem to the society. Human wares enjoy a well-developed software a lot such that they can't stay a day without using the computer system. Hence, the more developed a software is, the more glued a player would be to his gadget. In a nutshell, the future gets funnier, but may not help in removing addiction.

Very well said, if you look at the number of cases of people who were addicted to gambling then compared to today, the number has really swelled because the accessibility of gambling has become modern to everyone, think even those who are of legal age are already skilled gambling using only the phone devices they have. I thought that maybe the Preventions of Gambling addiction should be included in the programs promoted by different organizations in a community so that everyone can be informed of the possible effects it can have on a person if they are allowed to gamble without having self control and limitations.
491  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can somebody make a successful career in gambling on: March 15, 2024, 09:33:21 AM
Impossible man. no one can make a successful career on gambling in any way. because gambling is very risky and gambling is not able to bring any stable income for someone. so if someone says that he can make a successful career in gambling then he is definitely in a wrong circle. Gambling should be used only for fun if one wants to take it as a career then his future is bleak. Gambling can never make one's career. I don't believe in this concept
What I believe is that it is never possible to build a successful career in gambling. If a person is addicted to gambling, the career is more likely to be ruined. If a person dreams of making money by gambling, it is a big mistake. If a person considers gambling as a profession  If he wants to choose as one, he will lose his wealth in a very short time. Gambling should be seen as our entertainment.
Build a successful career in gambling is difficult because it's related to many things that every people should have. They must have many things that they should learned before they decide using gambling as a profession or career. They should already know that many people trying to do that but many of them fail in the middle or when they are just started. Gambling is for having fun so they don't have any intentions to used gambling as a career and makes money. But some people who has much experiences on gambling can used gambling as a way to make money but they don't tells to other people because they don't want to be blame if other people can't do what they do. The worst thing that people can gets from playing gambling too often and not controls themselves is addiction to gambling and that can comes anytime and most of them will not know if they already gets addicted to gambling.
On my own opinion, I don't see myself making gambling as my career, As you have said, many people have tried but failed in the middle of the process because they developed the addiction and obsession of playing it, That's why It is better that gambling should be for fun and leisure only, but we can't avoid ourself as well as the others to making it as another source of income in the long run especially when we have the right technique and strategy to win here.
492  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do the juice Worth the squeeze? on: March 14, 2024, 12:27:05 PM
Hi,

As everyone knows the goal of betting is to get the largest amount of money , knowing that the risks do not change whether you bet a large or small amount, and sometimes the amount you bet with is your capital, and this drains you of your time and money, and perhaps your work and daily tasks.

Do you think that the benefits in gambling Worth the invest of your money and your time with knowing that your chances are Just 50/50?

Hi, For me as a gambler and investor, I don't look at the time I spend on something, I look at its outcome especially when I finish doing it, and another thing, I don't treat gambling as part of income or some kind of investment, I'm doing it for my own pleasure and to challenge myself since I'm just doing it as a hobby or one of may pass time. Maybe I can only say that the time I devoted to gambling was worth it when I won big or I was satisfied with the enjoyment and excitement I felt.
493  Economy / Economics / Re: Early exposure of children to wealth and investments on: March 14, 2024, 11:41:49 AM
I think children should learn about money & money management quite early in their lives. You can start by rewarding them with pocket money each week for doing tasks around the house. You can allow them to save up for something they really want or budget weekly to afford sweets, chocolate or whatever. I won’t tell my kids exactly how much money I make but I will teach them about Bitcoin & how to use it so they can take over when I die.

I agree, and if I have a child, I will set an age where by that age they should know how to budget their own allowance. Because I believe that when you learn something while you are young, you can carry it until you are old and it is possible that you can improve the correct practice in that matter. When it comes to financial matters, I would prefer my future child to be financially literate so that even if I am not by their side, they will know what is the right thing to do with the money they have. Yes, they will become independent at a young age, but I would rather that than them growing up ignorant and not knowing how to handle their finances.
494  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who among you here is gambling at work? on: March 14, 2024, 11:20:26 AM
Yeah right, the chance of keeping your focus into gambling either you are winning or losing will lead you not to pay attention to your work, it might ruin your bread and butter in terms of financial needs. Better not to deal with it if you can hold and wait till your shift ends up and you have all the free time to gamble.
Well, that can makes your works can't finish in the right time and clearly, your focus on your work will disturb. When you lose, your minds will back to thinks about your loss and will not realizes that your gambling time is over and you now must continue your work until it finish. But because of you gets lose in gambling, your minds can't thinks clearly and not accepting the lose so that can interrupt your emotion and your work. It's why that if you want to playing gambling, you better doing that in your home and not in your work because you risks your work and that can makes you gets fired when your superiors knows.

but the thing here is, what if you are set up to work from home? You need a lot of self control because you can gamble anytime with just your phone, right? Since your work is at home, it will be difficult for you to control yourself because you may not be able to work properly and lose your focus due to the temptation of gambling. Whether we admit it or not, it has come to the point that we do it especially when we have spare time at work like break time. It's really hard to get through, but it's up to you how you can help yourself in managing your time, especially when it comes to work-life balance.
495  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: March 14, 2024, 10:03:33 AM
We live in a society where people have different views about something and these views could be drawn based on different constituent like personal sentiment, religion, ideology and experience. And speaking of gamble there are those that view it as an irresponsible activity to embark on and whoever is into it is tag as irresponsible guy, for some it beyond being irresponsible but a sin something that is evil,  while some others out of an ugly experience of a loved one that got ruined by it due to extreme addiction.

These factors has made a number of gamblers to keep their gambling habit a secret doing all they could not to let friends and family  know they gamble. And it does seem like they ain't proud of what they're doing.

But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.

Keeping gambling habit as a secret is not bad at all and there are two reasons why people do this.

1. To avoid discouragement from people around them.

2. They care about what others says about gamblers.

In some countries, gamblers are big sinners, the way people stare at gamblers is like that of someone who is lost in his own dream, and it can be a stamp for you when you are sighted at a casino nearby.

I won't ever discourage anyone not to gamble, but I will tell them about the cruelty of becoming a gambling addict, so that they will be cautious when proceeding, the truth is you can never know what will work for anyone, just because you hate gambling don't mean it won't favor someone else, this is why I don't discourage people.

I want to add this one more reason I see why others prefer to hide their gambling activities is to avoid bad luck or the so-called evil eye 🧿 there are other people who when they know what is happening to you, they can controlled it in their mind and there is a big chance that your plans will not come true or in the case of gambling, you may lose and bad luck happen to you because there is another person who knows what you are doing, and that person is possibly against on what you're doing. That's one of the superstitious beliefs here in our country, many things are avoided in order not to lose in gambling and first things first is - don't let other people know.
496  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you blame someone for your gambling losses? on: March 14, 2024, 09:24:46 AM
That is what stupid gamblers usually do , they tend to look for someone to be blame because of their own mistakes ,imagine how much risk they use to gamble but when faces losses they will end up making big issues so their act will not look like fool, gamble at your own risk , and also when we gamble always remember that it is our decision unless they are being forced to bet .

A wise gambler should know that whatever the outcome of gambling is his own responsibility. Gamblers who blame others are stupid gamblers. No one forces you to gamble. Even if someone gives a prediction because he or she has won the jackpot with that pattern, we have to know that everyone has different luck. I have friends who experience gambling losses because they believe in the pattern given by their friend. What you need to know is that the pattern in each game does not determine that it is a fixed pattern that will give you victory.
but because of addiction or whatever emotional damage they are facing now, their mindset becomes like that, Sometimes even though they know they are really wrong, but because they don't want to accept the mistake, they will find someone else to blame. So sometimes, as a gambler, I avoid giving opinions or advice to other people because I have experienced being in such a situation where, my acquaintance blames me for what is happening in their life now, They are addicted to gambling and buried in debt, I was the one to blame because they said I was the one who's playing it. it's just funny because no one forced them to gamble but terribly blaming other people for their wrong actions.

497  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A Man bet his life savings on 1 spin of Roulette on: March 14, 2024, 08:10:20 AM
Spin Casino can explore all the bonuses and promotions available on the promotions page to attract new players and increase their bankroll but it's all over if they fall into their trap. Betting a whole fortune with life savings will result in more risk. You should never gamble with your life savings rather than lose your cash. It is better to avoid them by promoting many such videos.
Spin games are a lot of fun but they are very risky because no one can tell who will win when. When one bets on spins he has to give up his entire bet amount as a loss but if one is lucky he can win and if he wins he wins something huge which can change his life.  I'm amazed at the story the op shared here that a man put his entire life savings into a single bet. He was lucky enough to win there otherwise he would have lost all his life savings. It is good to gamble with risk but one should never take a risk where there is a possibility of losing a lifetime savings

In the spin games inside the casino I often lose and all I can say is that if you can't control yourself, you will end up really enjoying playing it. Because when it comes to spin games, you have nothing else to do but just press and the system or the manual roulette will take care of where the spot will fall, but like I said, I always lose in that game and I rarely win, you just have to really rely on your luck playing it. This gambling can easily divert your attention and you won't realize that your time and money are running out because you are enjoying playing.
498  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sports that you don’t watch but you keep placing bets on: March 14, 2024, 07:50:22 AM
I have a bit different approach towards sports betting and gambling in general. When I place bet or gamble, I do it not to earn money, but do it for entertainment, to add a little bit spiciness to watching the game. Those who place bets and dont watch, I think are those who use gambling to earn and physically cant watch all the events they have placed bet on. I prefer to get maximum emotions for the money I have spent on a bet.

Well, that's true and I admit that I bet because I just want to win or I just want to see if my instincts will be right on the possible number that will appear, but when it comes to sports, I don't really want to watch, especially when it's NBA, Maybe I really don't like men sports that's why, but it doesn't mean that if you don't watch it, you don't enjoy it. I also enjoy it somehow because I challenge myself when it comes to the outcome of what I predicted.
499  Economy / Economics / Re: Why are some countries being sentimental with bitcoin and the cryptos at large? on: March 14, 2024, 07:32:19 AM
Are they protecting their citizens from an omen that the cryptocurrencies portrays?
Or they're just being awkward from embracing digital developments?
They are not protecting any citizen against any omen, but they are just being foolishly ignorant to accept the revolution Tech. but the earlier they accept, the better for them. The reason behind why they are so rigid about cryptocurrency is that they only captured the negative side of it without looking at the brighter side of it, sometimes I think most of them haven't benefited much about cryptocurrency thats why they are so stiff. But I believe with time they will see the important of cryptocurrency bitcoin to be precise.

I think that's the true reason why they can't accept bitcoin and any cryptocurrency, because maybe they gathered the negative information and other bad comments attached to crypto earlier, without knowing what the truth is? Because here in our country, the same thing happened, crypto became famous because of its bad image attached to the dark web but because my countrymen have a habit of being curious, they dug to the depths of the information about it and that's when they found out that it was not cryptocurrency is not only being used badly, but it will also be a way for people to be financially secured.
500  Economy / Economics / Re: Save while young better than wait on: March 14, 2024, 01:40:45 AM
paxmao, what you say it is easier to say than to do. What is being young for you? For me it is period between 20-25 years. This is a period when you still study in the university and have a reckless life. By the time you get your first serious job, you can consider yourself to be old, as your life changes into home-work-home routine. I remember myself being 20-25 yo. Fire in the eyes and always no money. Even if I do freelance or part-time jobs, I was always short on money. Because of endless energy and fire in eyes, I have managed to do thousand tasks daily, spend all the money.

You are right that it is easier said than done, but I think it's all about being responsible, and there is no age limit for someone to become responsible. A person can become responsible even if they are 18 years old or maybe less, some might not become responsible even when they are in their 30s, so it's all about how a person is raised and what kind of situations and environments they've been living in.
Someone who has never seen hardships, always had everything taken care of by their parents and guardians, never had to worry about money or food or any other necessity, such people would barely become responsible at a young age. However, someone who haven't had any of the above will become mature and responsible before it's time.
These sentences are very easy to say, but in my opinion it is very important that you always write down these motivational sentences and then read them and absorb them. So there's no harm in anyone always giving motivational sentences so that young people can be independent.
