1341  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cross addictions is Just as Bad. on: November 02, 2023, 10:39:21 AM
-snip

Ever heard of cross addiction or suffered from it?
What do you think?
I've never experienced this before but I once met someone who used to be my friend but now who knows where he goes, he definitely has a gambling problem or we call it a gambling addiction, but when he tries to avoid gambling, he looks for other alternatives to not be addicted to gambling anymore. tried to do illegal racing and this was the same as betting only in smaller amounts but I also asked him what his goal was to leave gambling but instead became addicted to betting on illegal racing and he answered that he actually wanted to stop betting on gambling but he was confused about finding a better alternative positive so he decided to bet on illegal racing and tried to find other solutions to continue to avoid betting slowly because he realized that if he was addicted, stopping immediately was very difficult. so the cross-addiction scenario that someone I know experienced was just a small attempt to slowly get away from gambling or casinos.
The intentions of your former friend were correct but the method he selected was terrible as ‘two wrongs do not make a right’.

What he should have done as he was finding difficult to leave gambling addiction behind is to look for professional help and receive it for months, as leaving a gambling addiction behind is not an event but a process, however by trying to overcome his addiction by engaging in another destructive behavior he has just compounded his problem even further.
He may need to reach out to his friends to get him to do something before he decides to go to a professional and ask for help. Usually, friends can provide interesting ideas and make them want to do something that has nothing to do with gambling. But he should really get friends who care about him so he can really get a solution to stop gambling. Maybe his friend can't find a friend who can provide a solution but a solution for betting on illegal racing. It's the same as moving to another activity but still related to gambling.

Or he can ask a friend to help him find a job. Usually, this will help him to stay busy looking for any job vacancies, especially if there are friends who can offer him to work with them. If he can find it, at least he can leave his gambling behind to focus more on his work.

That's a good idea, why not help your former friend to find a decent job or other thing that may helps him to divert his/her attention and gaining money at the same time. (not any other illegal racing activities which is somehow related to gambling)  It will be more helpful to lessen his/her obsession in any illegal activities and gambling and I think that's a good and positive example of healthy Cross addiction. If your friend doesn't want to listen on your advices or having a hard time to follow your advices, maybe he/she needs a counseling if he/she has a problem when it comes to avoiding the gambling addiction.

1343  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Does lottery rewards expire? on: November 02, 2023, 09:45:20 AM
I think this depends entirely on the game but as per my investigation about lotteries I found out that it takes long for at least three months from the drawing date to claim your prize, anything after is already too late, but the deadline can be extended up to a year too.

So yes lottery rewards can actually get expired, the duration depends on the lottery and the location where you bought it from, power ball time frame is different from mega millions and so on.

I think the best manner of approach is to always check the claiming deadline for a specific lottery to figure out when the ticket will expire, I've not particulate in any lottery before but I am sure that lottery tickets carry their expiring date at the back of the tickets, but not always.
When someone is winning in a lottery, It takes time before they claim their prizes especially if the winning amount is the jackpot prize since there's a lot of process to be done before they give the money. The lottery rewards may expire or they only give a duration how long does it takes for the winner to claim or to submit a documents for their prizes. You're right that the lottery ticket has their expiration date at the back of the tickets so better to always check. here in our country, the process of claiming the winning prize, the winner should present valid ID and the winning ticket and also needs to fill out the required forms and the tickets need to be  validated. It takes time for the verification due to some legal process but once verified, Treasury dept will issue a check to the winner's name.
1344  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Tips on staying responsible. on: November 02, 2023, 09:22:44 AM
When gambling, we must be able to control ourselves so as not to spend a lot of money gambling because it will be difficult for us to meet our needs, it would be better for us to set a budget for gambling and if we win we can stop enjoying it and if we lose we no need to take any other amount of money to gamble.
That is why it is important to learn to manage a budget because that can be an alarm for yourself that the game must be stopped, this method will not make us more wasteful and waste money excessively, the point is to learn to control yourself before gambling because if you are not able to control When gambling, it would not be advisable for you to gamble because it could have fatal consequences.

But if you can control it, you won't have any problems playing gambling whenever you want as long as you gamble responsibly and wisely, therefore you need to understand how to control it when gambling, don't be greedy and never follow your emotions when gambling, it will definitely cause huge losses. on yourself it can also cause bankruptcy if you can't do it.
It's easy to say but everyone has a different attributes when it comes to gambling but listen, Having a self control, financial management and budgeting skills will help you to save yourself in any circumstances. like what you've said, if a gambler has no control when it comes to gambling, there's a high probability that person will become addicted to it. So before entering the world of gambling, make sure that a person is aware on the consequences. It may be fun at first but as time goes on, a person didn't notice the effects of gambling in their self anymore.
1345  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Advice when you are going a bit far in gaming and betting on: November 02, 2023, 09:08:43 AM

This is really good. Addicted gamblers need this to help themselves because they have to control themselves whenever they are in the hot seat. On the budget, they should set it base on their salary in the weekly or monthly basis. The drugs and alcohol drinking will need a special counseling committee for them because they take them to motivate their spirits.

In addition they need to rest under a tree or flowers with soft drink to think how to solve the hard puzzles. As you said, they need to relax and eat good food dress well and look good and go to event place and dance with friends
First I don't think this guide is necessary for an addicts,  because gambling budgets is main to stop you from sliding into addictions since your primary aim of setting up the budget is to prevent you from going overly too much into gambling and such doesn't go well with addicts since he is already in the mole already.

What an addict need at that point a help to withdraw from the addiction and if possible should be 100% withdrawal,  so having a budget to gamble with as an addict is a big set-up because he will never go over with such a mindset as budget since the addictions won't allow him to operate within that budget limits.
Making a budget might seem like a quick fix when the real problem is an addiction that has been going on for a long time. When someone is caught up in the whirlwind of addiction, can we really expect them to stick to their budget? In a way, isnt that setting them up for more fails and heartaches?

But one could also think that taking steps, even if they are small ones like making a budget, could be the first thing that helps someone who is struggling with addiction become more aware. Addiction is like a web with many layers. What some people think is a bad plan could be a life-saving move for someone else. Again, though, its important to remember that addicts need more than just a budget; they need full-on help and rescue.
You have a point, It's quite difficult to give them an advice about setting a budget if we are aware that the gambler is having an addiction, possible they can't control their spending habit as well as their self. They need an assistance and support from the medical experts as well as from their family who really cares about them. though it is a situational issues, It's better to at least giving a try to set a budget also seeking medical help so that gamblers can make a better decision for theirself.
1346  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Success or Fail? - Talking about Gambling as a major income on: November 01, 2023, 11:39:13 AM
The house certainly designs so that their games are not profitable for the players in order to make their business run well. Usually each casino platform has a low probability of winning to make their gaming ecosystem more challenging for the players and to benefit them as well.
But even though it has a low probability, many people still gamble to make money. Most gamblers have the mindset that they will be able to make gambling their main/side job to earn money, which is a wrong mindset.
The desire to make money quickly is the driving force that motivates many people to gamble. I can not believe it. They may consider gambling as a primary/side job to make money. Why are they so naive? I need them to calculate how many monthly rewards they receive on average when gambling. Do they use the prize money enough for personal purposes or daily family activities? Or it's all just losses or luck with the initial capital? Those people should wake up. This is a game, not a job.
I was getting $800 per month from gambling. I don`t know is it enough for someone but in my country the medium salary is about $450-$500. I`ve stopped because such gambling need much time and i have a main job, hobbies, family. I had to choose something to stop. Between job and gambling - the job is more profitable, so i stopped gambling for profit. I still play poker, make bets, but mostly for fun. It brings me $200-$400 monthly and don`t need much time.
That's nice to hear that you didn't trade having a full time job than the gambling. when it comes to stability, having a job or business is more stable than waiting for gambling to win because in gambling, the more you win, the more you lose, it's all about luck so better to choose what's the best for you and for your family, it's okay if you're still playing online gambling apps as long as it's for your entertainment and spare time but better to stop it already and focus on other things like spending time to your family and other hobby.
1347  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can Gambling affect your relationship? on: November 01, 2023, 10:58:41 AM
the one I witnessed was a man his wife told to stop gambling due to the fact that they hardly feed well and the little they have the husband will use it for gambling , so when she tried so hard to stop the husband and he refused so she had no option but to leave the man.

That's so bad. Why don't people select partners who love what they are doing? I see that some partners have issues because of the love their husbands have for football. If I want to get married today, I want to make sure that my wife is someone who likes what I like, and vice versa. Some gamblers are the reason why their relationships also get ruined, just like the example you gave. Someone who has family to take care of is still wasting the little money they get on gambling, and they don't even make any wins. They are the kind of gamblers that even stake on big odds because of their greed to make a huge win. I know I gamble, but I don't spend a lot on gambling; there are more important things to take care of. Even if I gamble, I will only sacrifice a small amount for the fun at that moment.
Maybe the reason is that before they get married, they didn't discuss each other's hobbies and vices? because for me, if I know that my partner is having an obsession in gambling which may affects in our future marriage life, I'll think twice before I agree on getting married not because I don't love him but I want to know first if he can sacrifice to leave the gambling for the sake of our future or not. I don't want to suffer to the things that I didn't do in the end. If you're partner doesn't want to change for a better then think and decide what should you do.
1348  Other / Off-topic / Re: Keeping your gambling habit a secret. on: November 01, 2023, 10:16:10 AM
Those that keep their gambling habit a secret is it that they're not proud of what they are doing?.
Personally I am not proud of the gambling that I do because of course I prefer to hide it from friends and people who know me, except my wife because it is important for her to know and help me in limiting my gambling budget, this is done so that I do not trapped in addiction, because when you become an addict it will be difficult to recover.

Besides, why do we have to share our winnings on social media and require that many people know that I gamble, it will definitely look bad in their eyes too, so there's no need to publicize it too much because it's better for me to gamble in a hidden way using my cellphone and computer at home, that's more than enough although my close friend is also a gambler I don't want him to know that I gamble.  Cheesy Cheesy

In my opinion there is nothing to be proud of from gambling, because even with the winnings obtained through gambling people will judge badly because the money earned is money from gambling. Everyone knows the view of gambling is bad, so I personally wouldn't tell others about my gambling, because there's no benefit either hahaha. If it's for entertainment, then entertainment only, gambling is just a game broo not a place to make money.

Yes I agree with you, there is no point if we tell other people or social media. What I feel is the same, I gamble on weekends and my work friends are the same. But I myself don't want my workmates to know, win yes take lose yes already. There is no need to tell here and there because in my opinion it is useless, although there are some gamblers who like to tell their gambling whether they lose or win they will definitely publish it, I had a laugh when I saw my friend showing off his meager winnings, I'm sure the winnings he got were not worth the defeat he had felt so I wonder why anyone would want to show off his ugliness, indeed different points of view, but I emphasize that everyone knows that gambling is not a good thing but a bad thing that will damage the future if we are addicted to gambling.

Yup, people are so easily to judge especially if they know that your money is fruit of gambling. As we lived in this generation wherein many are open on the idea of doing some activities just like gambling, still many Olders still think that if you're into gambling, you are doing an illegal activity, So there's no point to let them know that you're doing it because even if you explained well yourself, They are more likely to believe what they really want to believe. Much better if you keep it to yourself or share it to your most trusted person in life.
1349  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this how it start? (No or yes?) on: November 01, 2023, 09:59:21 AM
Have you been in such situations before? I foremost, asked this question because I haven't done this before. Today I was just doing nothing but sitting down in the sitting room watching TV, but I wasn't comfortable. Then I fund my betting account (hoping to have fun) with $10 but, unfortunately for me, I lost the whole money without winning just a dime. It was not the first time for me to lose money on gambling (but I am not a regular gambler), then I fund another $10, so finally, finally, I still lost the other money I deposited, and I was like asking myself how? When did I even fund another money in this account? why I am surprised is because I haven't funded into my betting account twise in a day after losing done money, so am I becoming an addict? No.
In my opinion. I don't see any symptoms of a gambling addiction based on what you've narrated. It's just that, you really want to get back what you've lost in the game that's why you've placed a bet for the second time. one of the reason why you tried to gamble because out of boredom and that's normal, you don't have to think that you are addicted already as long as you did that for fun and to entertain yourself also you are aware on what you have done... Chasing losses so many times doesn't mean you're addicted but this is also one of the early sign of being obsess in gambling that's why you have to think twice and know your limitations in placing bets.
1350  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Health Benefits of Gambling on: November 01, 2023, 09:47:16 AM
The point is don't overdo it, just like when you eat food if you eat enough and move a lot you will be a healthy person, but if you eat too much and don't move much you will get sick, the same goes for gambling activities if you play. Excessive gambling certainly has negative effects, namely it can lead to addiction or bankruptcy, as well as being abandoned by family and people around us.

Fortunately, I always remember what my parents taught me, that whatever you eat and do, don't overdo it, stick to your portion. For example, when gambling, always limit your budget and time for gambling so that it can be an alarm to stop gambling and not gamble excessively. Moreover, not regularly, I can honestly admit that while gambling I don't get too stressed and in fact this activity can relieve stress from my work every weekday, that's why on weekends I always gamble as an additional activity that entertains me and makes me happy.  Wink
I agree with what google says but somehow, The health benefits that may acquire in gambling in every individual is for temporary only, please be mindful that there are more negative side effect in peoples health benefit than the positive one so it is necessary to explain it to a gambler to prevent them from getting negative side effects. Just like drugs, It has a medical health benefit in a person but if they use it compulsively, they will become obsessed and that's not healthy to a persons lifestyle and mental health.
1351  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can somebody make a successful career in gambling on: November 01, 2023, 09:26:30 AM
Another big risk is that a person can become addicted to gambling, which will be detrimental to him because he will spend all his money without having anything left. His family will also find it difficult to take care of him because he only thinks about gambling and doesn't want to do anything else. Instead of being able to get or become a successful gambler at gambling, he ends up spending a lot of money without being able to become a successful gambler and also ends up getting problems from gambling.

Gambling is a game, everyone loves to play and win, but losing is an integral part of this game. You can’t rely only on gambling when it comes to making money, I always say that you should have several sources of income and if you see that gambling does not bring you money, but only brings you losses, then you should think about how good this activity is for you.
Precisely! Gambling is a game wherein everyone gets addicted to the point that they are willing to risk their money or savings. This is not belong to the list of the things that gives you money or sources of you income, in fact it may be the reason of your downfall if you will not consider the things that you need to do to prevent being obsessed in this game. I would say that there are some people who become instant rich because of gambling just like "winning in a lottery" but to have a successful career in gambling, I think There's none. before you have a successful in gambling, you will just lose huge amount of money, sacrifices your time , health and family at first and I don't think that as a successful way.
1352  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: NEW NFT GAME - MonMon Land on: November 01, 2023, 08:47:43 AM

Subscription - Pearl (free) / Ruby ($20) / Emerald ($50) / Diamond ($100)

I think madami ang susubok niyan lalo na kapag kumalat nanaman sa social media or napromote ng mga influencers and vloggers just like what they did in Axie infinity.
1353  Local / Pilipinas / Re: bakit dapat mong maintindihan at wag matakot sa dip on: November 01, 2023, 08:25:45 AM

Sa lahat ng bagay may risk na kaakibat so it's up to you kung anong magiging decision mo bago pumasok sa cryto world. Halos karamihan dito ganito din naman ang mindset nung wala pang idea about bitcoin pero after nilang mapag aralan at mas maunawaan, nagbago na ang impression nila dito. Siguro it's time nadin na malaman ng iba na hindi porket bitcoin, crypto or kahit anong investment pa yan ay scam na agad or negative side na agad, be financially literate.
1354  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Have you ever been a gambling addict? on: October 31, 2023, 02:49:51 PM
A couple of years ago I gamble every single day but that was fair and I think it cannot be called as an addiction as I have limits on how much I am willing to donate or lose a week since it is is a lottery. You can be an addict if you cannot control yourself with gambling.
I tried to gamble a couple of times through online casino site and it's kinda addicting especially if you have a solo budget in playing and you really want to hit the jackpot prize. Hence, I don't call myself an addict because i know what i am supposed to do and I know my self limitations. Also, as a someone who has a genetic blood of a gambler, I wan't to make an action so i can prevent myself to become just like some of my relatives who are still addictively playing a casino gambling and card game. So, much better to know how to control yourself in all aspects in gambling.
1355  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Traditional business or investing in bitcoin? which one is good? on: October 31, 2023, 10:12:49 AM
Diba, different situation, different views.
Same to you, One of the factors that i considered when buying a land and real estate is the location, particularly if you'll be use it in business.  Take note, all investment is risky, but you have to determine which is worth the risk. For now, i would say that investing in real estate is practically good because alam naman natin na ang value ng mga real estate is palaging tumataas, Once na may nakita kang binebenta lupa in a lower price, then you must investigate about the whole location before you decide to buy and invest in real estate.

Habang buhay silang may regrets and "what if's" sa isip nila.

What is your one memory related to Bitcoin that you want to forget? It can be anything like some sort of scam happening to you or some other type of loss.
One thing in my memory way back 2017 that I want to forget is not having a back up copy of my wallet address and keys. That's one of the worst thing that happened to me when I was a beginner in
blockchain, bitcoin and crypto world. My desktop was accidentally reformat and All the coins that I acquired in bounty campaign, white paper translation and some side hustle in crypto was loss in just a snap. I don't have any back up which resulted of losing huge amount of money. Charge to experience and one of the biggest lesson for me.
1358  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ? on: October 31, 2023, 04:08:01 AM
Will you leave gambling if your future wife/husband tells you to do this ?
- If I were in this situation, I'd definitely have to consider it. First and foremost, I'd have an open conversation with her about what I'm involved in, whether it's gambling or trading. If I'm consistently making profits, I'd provide a clear explanation to help her understand.
- I understand it won't be an easy conversation, but I believe that if I'm transparent and let her track my progress, she'll come to understand.
- Conversely, if my gambling is purely for entertainment, giving up a hobby like this for the person I love isn't a big sacrifice. If possible, I might discuss setting aside a small budget for gambling with her.
- Ultimately, I believe family and loved ones should come first in all decisions.
This is definitely true, if you have a great communication as well as the comprehension with your partner, it would be a great way to avoid misunderstandings which may cause anger, confusion and resentment.
I agree that your family should be your priority rather than your wants in life just like the gambling, so it's better to talk with each other and decide what should you do, it's important to hear you partner's concern so that you will know if it's okay that you're into gambling or not.

Children are very quick to imitate every actions of adults around them and because gambling is one activity that isn't supposed to be introduced to children under the age of 18, it's absolutely wrong for adults to or parents to gamble in front of kids as it'll potentially make them to end up as gambling addicts.
Children aren't good at making decisions and doesn't know the implications of gambling so introducing them to gambling is a way of ruining their future.
A child watching his or her father or mother gambling does not necessarily become a gambling addict automatically, let's try to get our facts right always.
A child watching his or her parents while they gamble can't still gamble until such a child is of age, atleast from 10, 12 to 15 years of age when they probably already own their own smart phone or are getting some pocket money from the parents.

A child can watch an adult gamble and possibly won't understand exactly what the adult is doing, the child may possibly assume that the adult is playing some random video game, a child can only know that you are gambling only when you decide to tell them so.
You have a point, but when the curiosity hits the child, there's a possibility that in the near future that they will more likely to engage in gambling, also it's just not being addictive but there's also different factors that may affect the child while they are growing up like poor mental health, emotional problems and school difficulties. it shows that the environment that a child grows up will be the reason of developing a gambling addiction. As we all know that parents should be the important role model
for their child, they may come to reflect their parents attitude and behaviours about gambling.

I do not think there should be a limit for gambling, I think it retiring in gambling depends on the personal preference and financial capability.  Even if the person is not old if he is not capable to spend extra money for gambling, he must retire playing on gambling platform in order for him to support his and his family's need without any problem.

There are older people who is more than capable of spending money for gambling, I do not think we should limit them to play in gambling platform because of their age. As long as the person is having fun and is capable of spending money for gambling, they should continue to gamble regardless of age.

But there are other gamblers under the age of 40 who are unable to gamble because of the severe illness they have, even though they still want to gamble. There are such gambling addicts, who despite undergoing therapy for his illness.

But of course, it's just common sense. When you know that you're old, that's a sign that you should stop gambling instead; there's nothing wrong with it. It's better that you enjoy the rest of our days in this world with other things. Rather than spending money on casino gambling. That makes more sense than inside the casino.

You're right, well, life begins at 40 as they say. But I think there's no age limit or rules about on what age should a gambler retired. Many gamblers specifically those Elite gamblers are still playing at the age of 60-80 yrs old, those are the one who spent time in gambling and treat it as their leisure. I think this topic should not be a big deal,  As long as you're capable to play or as long as you have your money, know your limitations and you have a self discipline then you're still allowed to play. Only minors are not allowed to gamble.
