4821  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone can Rank-up! [Motivational Thread from a noob] on: December 20, 2019, 04:04:27 PM
Congratulations on your ranking up to full member. You have always been consistent with posting and joining discussions. That's one criteria to ranking up, whether or not you're in a signature campaign, join quality interactions.
Some users wake up after long periods of inactivity and apply for campaigns but are very likely to not get accepted.

Your tips are quite helpful and simple enough for anyone to adopt. One extra quality would be: find a niche for yourself. Pick a section, grow your knowledge in it and you can become renowned in that field.
4822  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong granted patent for sending BTC thru email on: December 20, 2019, 03:38:21 PM
If he can get this to work, it could simplify Bitcoin transfers for people. I assume the transaction is complicated behind the scenes but to the user it could seem simple.
Blockchain transactions are quite simplified and one does not need high tech knowledge to be able to initiate a transaction. The important factor is the security that comes with transactions from a private wallet. Email services are prone to privacy leaks and even the service providers are guilty of collecting data on their users.
I wouldn't have advise anyone to transaction directly through email.
4823  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 20, 2019, 03:28:50 PM
All attention seems to be on the Arteta to Arsenal deal, and I feel the pressure may be too much for him. I do not doubt his technical abilities, even though he has not handled any previous club. But I doubt if he can handle the pressure that comes with handling a club like Arsenal, especially in the situation they're in at the moment.
It's a big gamble for both parties, but if he's giving enough financial support from the board and enough time, he could show his quality.

Edit: CONFIRMED. Just saw that the Arteta already signed a three and a half year deal.
4824  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Question and Traditional Markets on: December 20, 2019, 02:55:39 PM
...

Bitcoin as a currency has speculative value, and is viewed as a currency, stocks and bonds are also speculated on. Would investors want their assets to be hinged on another asset with (possible) wild volatility? I may be wrong in my supposition
There are many applications of Bitcoin, but first, I think it has to become a fairly atable currency.
Governments' influence would determine the direction that Bitcoin would take in a few years, adoption, regulation, control or rejection.
4825  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: UEFA Champions League Discussion Thread on: December 20, 2019, 01:48:46 PM
@Daniel91 Barcelona have always been over reliant on Messi, and despite their poor results they do not learn from their mistakes and never try and promote other players ahead of Messi.

Manchester City will not win the champions league because of their leaky defence, the only team that can win it is Liverpool as they’re playing surreal football and no team is strong enough to stop them.

The solution is not to promote other players ahead of Messi (He is the best player in the world, so he is rightly above everyone else). The board for whatever reason seem to be ignoring the lack of an efficient tactical approach on the pitch, I would never have expected Valverde to last this long and except it is part of an attempt to keep him till the end of the season and make a move for Pep, then its a wrong decision.

I also fancy Liverpool ahead if every other team, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they are the only team that can win it.
4826  Other / Meta / Re: Scam Hunters on: December 20, 2019, 01:01:46 PM
I was just thinking that motivating people to "fight" against the scammers might help.
This is similar to what theymos was planning as regards to reports and badges being used as an incentive to encourage members to report spam posts. But that was put on hold...
Sorry for the wait, when I went to implement this it ended up being quite a bit more of a can of worms than I originally thought because of opting out, preventing certain report-count-padding strategies, etc. It's still on my to-do list, but there are several things above it.

Implementing another badge may not be plausible at this time due to the same reasons and other projects which are yet to be done.
4827  Other / Meta / Re: Scam Hunters on: December 20, 2019, 12:43:54 PM
- one of the Administrators could create, moderate and promote a new topic with the "Scam Hunters" contest...
... - I know that this can be done today, also, via "Report to moderator" link, but I feel like something is missing as people do not use this option as it should.

The report to moderator option is being used for its specific function, which is to report low posts which add no value to discussions, and also any other situation where mods can take action.
Scams are not moderated by the forum for a number of reasons, hence they are not reported, instead you can open a post in the scan accusation board - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0 ,Or use the negative feedback or trust flags.
4828  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 19, 2019, 08:46:45 PM
I think that Manchester City is going to win this game.
If this happens it will be a huge Christmas gift for
Admittedly, Liverpool would pull farther ahead in the title race, but if I were in the LFC corner, I'll rather have Leicester breathing down my neck than give City a chance to come back into the title race. The season is still far and the more points their most obvious contenders drop the better for LFC. No disrespect to Leicester, they are having a brilliant season and could go on longer than most expect, I just don't see them truly challenging for the title.

...
Making it to the round of 16, is one thing, going all the way to win it is another. The UCL needs lots of consistency and squad depth for a club to win it.
My picks are: Liverpool, Man City, and PSG. I'm a Barcelona supporter, but I just don't see then winning the UCL this season with the way they've been playing

* We need a central arbitral tribunal for commercial issues.

No, we do not. Centralization breeds corruption.
This would result in more problems than we have now. And at a quick glance, your suggestion looks like a complicated solution, that will lead to lots of discussion and complaints.
4831  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [What IF] Part 9 on: December 19, 2019, 11:54:54 AM
It depends on the amount and also the situation.

If he's been consistently winning then i'll likely watch his bets and stake on them (without his knowledge preferably), or I could just bet in a game I've been monitoring, these would be my likely cause of action, except there is a pressing other need for the money.
4832  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Merit - simple poll on operational fundamentals on: December 19, 2019, 04:19:49 AM
Some users avoid boards like this one and Mera as well, and if they've not received or given any merits, I can see then not having a proper grasp of how it works. Also, they can make up assumptions for why they have not earned any merit point yet.
Is the purpose of this thread to understand why some users hoard merits?
4833  Other / Meta / Re: Why Anouncements are not attractive? on: December 19, 2019, 04:08:53 AM
There are lots of pages of active announcements, and even if your project is above par, it could still get buried under other threads. But ensure your product offers a unique value to the audience )potential customer)/

However, when marketing a product, the quality of the product is just a little part of it. The actual marketing is the main attraction.
The forum has means by which you can market your products and services.
-You can run a signature campaign (Signature Campaign Guidelines (read this before starting or joining a campaign)
-Alternately, you can pay the forum directly for signature space (publicity) Advertise on this forum - Round 294
Do not:
-Offer incentives for users to post on your thread
-Bump your thread more than once every 24 hours and delete old bumps.
-Use alt accounts to create fake discussions.
4834  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: December 19, 2019, 03:52:56 AM
EFL Cup semi-finals:
I predict a Manchester City vs Leicester City final. United defeated City once this season already, but watching the game, City were for me, the stronger team. And would be again in this tie.
Aston Villa had a glorious victory against the European champions, but Leicester will not underrate them, and this is the last step to the final, there would be no question of whether or not they'll take it seriously. It's their most realistic chance at a title at the moment.
4835  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is the main purpose in gambling, always to make more money? on: December 19, 2019, 03:45:59 AM
YES. Making profit is the main goal, especially when you're investing (wager). I have to admit, a part of me gambles for personal fulfilment, (I feel like a clairvoyant when I successfully predict the outcome of a game). But profiting is definitely the main goal.
To prove this, if I initiate a bet and do not play it, and it ends up being successful. I will be annoyed that I lost out on the potential winnings, and that will outweigh any personal gains
4836  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: La Liga (Spanish League) Prediction Thread 2019/20 on: December 18, 2019, 04:30:16 PM
Every El classico is always an unpredictable fixture despite the condition of both squads. Barcelona are marginal favorites, but we have witnessed both teams capitulated at different points in the season, same way we've seen them put on master class displays. My bet would be on Barcelona to win both halves, with the home advantage and the depth in the squad, I believe they'll come out on top.
4837  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: There is a chance of getting merit for Newbie's only [5 sMerit Available] on: December 18, 2019, 05:50:42 AM
Increase your activity and become a member fast. if you do not want to remain as a Newbie. As a member, you get access to the good signature bounty.

There is no way(need) to increase your activity fast, the forum has a system in place and users must spend a specific number of time in a rank before being able to rank up. Signature bounties are good but should not be the sole reason why you post, so as not to spam the forum with low value contributions.
4838  Other / Meta / Re: How Do I Delete Comments In Self-Moderated Threads? on: December 18, 2019, 05:38:41 AM
if BitcoinTalk has a special user-rule that only allows for users who hold certain rank or merit to make use of the 'self-moderated' function?
There is no such rule, anyone is allowed to create a self-moderated thread as long as the board allows it, it was possibly a slight oversight from your end. As suggested that you can lock and archive that topic and create a new one paying extra attention to it.
4839  Other / Meta / Re: After submitting a report...... on: December 18, 2019, 05:27:13 AM
I also find the redirecting a hassle when reporting. As suchmoon suggested, it'll be great to have an in-tab icon to click the reason for the report and submit. We could also redirect to a review page after reports are submitted, soft of like the merit system, but only for the most recent reports (or reports which no action has been taken on).
Sort of like you just reported this post by _________ in Re: _______.

This was the user can simply go back to that specific post and report more on that thread or close the tab.
4840  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Altcoins delist and Bitcoin only on: December 17, 2019, 09:23:06 PM
Bitcoin is the pioneer cryptocurrency and it operates on the most trusted and decentralized network, so it'll be the first option for companies and agencies looking to truly utilize the functions of cryptocurrencies. There are a few altcoins which I rate highly but in a couple of years I believe that BTC would be the staple currency and many of those we have today will not be active by then.
