1. Empty stands is not alien scenario in the cricket or any sports. @7788bitcoin already pointed out one counter argument.
2. For starters BCCI aiming to conduct IPL season in UAE or Srl Lanka not India bc both countries are much safer destination in comparison of India.
3. When any series/tournaments takes place in tough condition, the first thing everyone discuss is safety so i think we should leave this to interesting parties.
Coming back to @vishnu statement, his position on audience's fatigue or overdose of IPL is true and might backfire on BCCI but we shouldn't forget that after 3-4 months halt due to pandemic audience are hungry for some sort of entertainment in the cricket and then we have revenue angle too.
Sri Lanka may be safer when compared to India, but I would disagree with you regarding UAE. The GCC nations have been severely affected by this pandemic, and the UAE is not an exception. If you want to talk about the numbers, then UAE is having 5,142 cases per 1 million population, while in India the same figure is 489 per million (almost 10 times lower). On top of that, there are rumors that the GCC nations are under-counting both the cases and casualties from COVID 19. Forget about other countries if BCCI cannot organize the IPL tournament in India due to COVID19. It will get canceled. Indian Government will not allow the matches to happen anywhere outside India. National sentiments are too high in India at the moment and this government is known for encouraging it. |

I too am expecting a complete white-wash but I want to see some fight from the West Indies team. I want them to at least drag the game to the last day. If it was one-sided it can be boring.
Nowadays most of the test matches can be boring and one-sided. Examples are the recent tours by South Africa to India, and the tour by Pakistan to Australia. And this is one of the reasons why I wanted two divisions in test cricket, with the strongest 5 teams in the first division and the other six teams in the second division. However, the ICC came up with the stupidest idea ever, and they included 9 teams in the first division. ICC I think is giving equal opportunity to all the teams. They are considering every team the same considering most of them are not playing a lot of Test cricket nowadays. This may be the reason why they have included all 9 teams in one division. |

In my opinion, it was to gain some political mileage and gain some popularity about the Srilankan citizens that the current sports minister raised this issue. Unfortunately, it backfired and he had to drop the investigation. This was suppose to happen as it is not possible to gather evidence related to the match which is 9 year old. The minister might not be having any other work during the lock down period and he might be watching a ton of conspiracy theories and thought about investigating about the missed world cup of Sri Lanka without any evidence or he might have lost a ton of money betting on that game and now almost a decade later he wanted to find out whether his betting line was correct  . Majority of the politicians are dumb and because they have the power to investigate without any evidence they proceeded without understanding the consequences and hence they had to close them because of the backlash they got. This is true, the majority of Politicians are dumb. The minister wanted to cash this issue by creating an atmosphere that he is concerned about the performance of Srilankan cricket and that if there is any corruption he would root it out. Unfortunately, it got backfired miserably. |

I think that if back-to-back IPL tournament will be held, there will haven't any problem. IMO, it is good for BCCI. because they can get much profit from sponsor. on the other hand, it is good news for those people, who do like sports gambling. we all know that "IPL" is a big platform for gambling. so, if IPL will be held, I won't be mined anything. it will be good for me too. I am just waiting for this tournament, I am not sure if they can consider this back to back IPL. Because if it does not happen in India which is most likely for this year due to the pandemic so the country would lose the revenue opportunity related to the hosting of IPL. If it is a one sided battle then there is nothing interesting to watch even if there is a million spectators and West Indies and England is not going to be a close match either as England might dominate them.
This is the main problem which I observed with test matches. Only popular series like the Ashes etc are usually viewed by test enthusiasts while the rest are usually viewed as highlights on YouTube etc. This is how I watch tests myself though I am not a test enthusiast. Also, England could face some issues even though they are technically a way stronger team due to the COVID effect. West Indies could surpris them if they bowl the right lines and lengths. Who has the time to watch a match for 5 days when you can watch the highlights of the whole day in just 30 minutes? Test cricket is losing the charm because of the amount of time it consumes whereas other formats do not. This is another why you do not see crowds in the stadium. |
