Fine now.

GLBSE is back up.
543  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 11, 2012, 04:46:40 PM
Well damn. I just sent a deposit to GLBSE too.

It'll get there, just you won't be able to do anything with it while it is :p
544  Economy / Securities / Re: [GLBSE] 2,500 PPT.D Pirate Pass Through Bonds! on: May 11, 2012, 04:44:19 PM
GLBSE is down for the moment until we've completed our security sweep. I can't give a fixed time to when that will be.
545  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Emergency ANN] Bitcoinica site is taken offline for security investigation on: May 11, 2012, 04:32:21 PM
Taken from http://GLBSE.com

Quote
GLBSE is under very heavy load

We're aware of the recent break-in at Bitcoinica and believe that GLBSE is also being targeted

We've taken GLBSE offline, including our very small hotwallet(and every bitCent is accounted for), and are taking steps to further secure our system.

We've been operating for over a year without any security incidents.

While you wait, have some fun.

Just to make things clear, GLBSE has not been breached and we have lost no funds, this is a precautionary measure. we've been operating for over a year without and security incidents.

mcorlett: I was joking, I don't even drink tea.
546  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE uptime on: May 11, 2012, 04:26:25 PM
Just a quick post, all GLBSE's funds are offline now (we don't keep much in our hot wallet anyway), so when we come back everything will be accounted for.

We're doing a security review before we bring things back up, we did the same after MtGox was targeted last year.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Nefario.
547  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Fearsome Friday, 5,600BTC of trading on GLBSE in the last 24 hours on: May 11, 2012, 01:52:06 PM
Nefario also said a long time ago that despite the asset being fake, he would honour it with shares in GLBSE. I thought it set a bad precedent at the time, given that I had always wanted to invest in GLBSE, but couldn't because it's not public, and I had taken the time to check the signature on the fake asset and realise that it was fake. Nefario's announcement to honour the fake asset meant he was rewarding those who didn't do their homework.

I don't know if you remember at the time, but there was uproar, and I had partially felt responsible, I thought I should have reserved the ticker for GLBSE use only but did not.

Anyway, GLBSE is not a publicly listed asset, and I would advise anyone trading them to not spend much, they're not worth a lot (i.e. there are a lot of non-fake shares for GLBSE making these a tiny tiny tiny fraction, also GLBSE is not worth over $1Billion USD).

But you did say you would take them over and they would be valid. Are their any plans for them in the near future?

Thanks

No plans.

550  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE - request for next features on: May 11, 2012, 09:49:14 AM
Feature request: A server that works.

+1

Uptime in the last week has been positively horrible.

Yes, uptime has been terrible, it's not that it's not been up, but not able to handle the amount of traffic, this is my first experience dealing with scaling issues, I apologize for any inconvenience caused.
551  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Fearsome Friday, 5,600BTC of trading on GLBSE in the last 24 hours on: May 11, 2012, 09:09:10 AM
GLBSE is not publicly traded.
552  Economy / Marketplace / Re: GLBSE DOWN !? on: May 10, 2012, 02:39:18 PM
Back up,there was an error that was preventing orders being processed.
553  Economy / Marketplace / Re: GLBSE plan in case of legal holdup on: May 10, 2012, 12:31:07 AM
Nefario has your forums been down for a while or is just me?

I've taken it down.
554  Economy / Marketplace / Re: GLBSE plan in case of legal holdup on: May 10, 2012, 12:02:25 AM
GLBSE's proxy server is in the US.

We only keep a small amount of BTC in our hot wallet(on the server, all else is offline).

Our data is backed up off server, and we have backup non-us domains.

We are not a registered business anywhere (mybitcoin was registered, look how that helped).
555  Economy / Securities / Re: GLBSE better, harder, stronger, faster, cheaper now with MAKER/TAKER on: May 08, 2012, 03:33:29 PM
This achieves one thing really, more market liquidity.

Liquidity providers can take advantage of the 0% trading fee.

People who want to trade get more liquidity at a better price and in theory the spread should close.
556  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: GLBSE 2.0 open for testing on: May 08, 2012, 03:22:16 PM
Yep, our daemon for processing deposits/withdrawals had died, and as usual the timing was perfect (I was on a bus heading down to London).

All fixed now.

It should be quite easy to make a cron that attempts a command on the daemon and if it fails to restart it. Hope it helps Smiley

Speaking of, it appears to have died again. 24 confirmations, no funds, and us.glbse.com/portfolio/bitcoin gives an internal server error.

EDIT: Seems to be fixed now.

I'm updating the system so you won't have to press buttons to check.
557  Economy / Securities / GLBSE better, harder, stronger, faster, cheaper now with MAKER/TAKER on: May 08, 2012, 02:44:05 PM
We've made some changes over at GLBSE.com, which have significantly sped up the site.

On top of that we've added maker/taker for fees (we we're going to have both buyer/seller pay fees but figured this is better for all).

Maker/Taker means if you make an order and it's put on the orderbook (not taken up with another order) you pay 0%, if you take an order (i.e. you're order is matched up with another) you pay 0.5%.

Enjoy.
558  Economy / Securities / Re: Will GLBSE ever be lowering its prices? on: May 08, 2012, 02:09:59 PM
Am I blind or something?! Where do I find the current fees charged if I'm logged in on GLBSE?

It's not in "Terms", on "Transfer" there's only the fee for transfers and anywhere else I've looked I didn't find anything...

Edit: Ok, right after posting this, I found it...  Lips sealed
The only way to see the fees is if you already intend to buy something and go on an asset page. If you want to check the fees first you can be as lost as me.
Also - 0.4% fees were announced, 0.5% fees implemented. That's a 25% increase(!) - why try to kill the liquidity that anyways is the thing that generates income and is most needed on GLBSE atm in my opinion?

No it's actually 0.5% fee, I've only implemented it and not announced but we've added maker taker.

Those who make orders that goes on the orderbook (i.e. are not taken up by another order) pay 0%, those who take orders (i.e. they make an order which takes up other orders) pay 0.5%
559  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: [ANN] GLBSE has a new look! on: May 08, 2012, 02:00:52 PM
For users on the American continent there is now https://us.glbse.com

If you're based in the US this will be about 3-5 times faster than glbse.com

The servers are located in the US?

The proxy server is located in the US.
560  Economy / Securities / Re: Will GLBSE ever be lowering its prices? on: May 07, 2012, 08:26:29 PM
Is the $40 something you have to pay every time you issue or buy-back shares? I was considering running a Silver ETF/ETN and may need to issue or buy-back shares in order to keep it close to the price of silver. A $40 fee every time could be a problem.

No it's only for listing a new asset.
