541  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ALERT] Alert System Retirement on: November 01, 2016, 04:13:34 PM
I didn't even know there was an alert system. I guess you learn something new every day haha  Smiley. Thanks achow101 for the helpful tips.

I don't remember ever seeing an alert and I have been using Bitcoin Core since it was called Bitcoin QT around version 0.7... I wonder how the alert looked like. Is this orange square message an alert?

542  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / I've read somewhere in 4 years the blockchain will be 700GB on: November 01, 2016, 03:58:16 PM
I remember reading this here the other day I think, and it was at a 1MB blocksize rate.... I would guess that in 4 years maybe the blockchain has been increased, at least doubled.

Anyway, let's imagine it doesnt, and we stay at 1MB.... what do you think the price for 700GB will be in 4 years? If things don't change much, it means running a node will take almost an entire HD (let's say the usual HD size is 1TB).

What happens once the size goes beyond 1TB, or beyond the biggest HD? what happens when you can't fit the blocksize in a regular HDs? Can you run 3/4 of the blockchain then the remaining 1/4 part in another HD?
543  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Will ETC pump hard? on: August 29, 2016, 10:24:32 PM
Big short profit whales don't care about the projects or fundamental or technical analysis, only about numbers, and ETC is showing consistent good numbers. A low price after a pump a great volume is what pumping whales love. Definitely worth being loaded with ETC.
544  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you still have time to reach the 21 BTC goal? on: August 29, 2016, 10:08:28 PM
That is way too much money for me to reach. I could possibly reach the halfway point, but as it stands now I don’t think I’ll be keeping that much money in bitcoin. Maybe next year! I have faith in the currency, but that is just way too much for me to keep saved back at the moment. I know I’ll need to dip into the funds at one point so it will be kind of pointless.

If bitcoin stays where it is now, you still have enough time. Get a job and try o live with your parents or something, so every month you spend as much as possible monthly in buying BTC.

Of course if next year BTC goes to 1k+... its harder.
545  Economy / Speculation / Re: Warning on: August 29, 2016, 10:00:51 PM
Look at the bright side: You can buy cheaper Bitcoin, and you can play with alts, since usually some alts pump go up when BTC goes down. ETC is looking good.
546  Other / Off-topic / Re: What to do with my signature campaign earnings ? on: August 29, 2016, 09:53:51 PM
Try to save it all unless you have a better plan. You never know for how long a signature campaing is running, and rates are increasingly worse.. bitmixer has been paying 0.007 for ages even for Hero members, its better than thing but oh well.
547  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin has no competition on: August 29, 2016, 06:42:10 PM
I agree, I don't see a single coin conquering BTC's marketcap. The only damage that can be done to BTC is throught anonymous coins, but if everything goes as expected, in a year or two (hopefully quicker) we will have ways to make bitcoin way more anonymous.
548  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which "blockchain" based database sounds promising? on: August 29, 2016, 06:36:15 PM
I don't think any of those type of proposals is going t be a success unless they are somehow attacked to bitcoin as probably a sidechain or something. I mean who wants to mine a blockchain just for that when you can benefit from bitcoin? I think that is why FCT is being a success, it does not try to reinvent the wheel.
549  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How to explain bitcoin to teenagers or children on: August 29, 2016, 06:28:04 PM
most parents don't know what money is so they wouldn't have a hope in hell of explaining it. if I had a teenager sat in front of me now i'd tell them it was an internet currency, show them a few places where it could be spent and tell them not to blow it all on drugs.

What do you mean "not all on drugs"? so some on drugs would be good? Cheesy

Anyway, I would not bother going into details. Adults don't get it, let alone kids. We will have to wait for things to naturally reach mainstream status. You couldn't explain the internet back in the 90's to the average joe.
550  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ima little drunk tonight and I have 3 more btc to invest in alts. But which ones on: August 28, 2016, 03:52:38 PM
Drunk altcoin investing? Amazing fun. I would recommend the following:

1 BTC in ETC at current price: Seems low enough for a good pump.
1 BTC in XMR: Who knows if this is the bottom or just the beginning of a 100 dollar pump?
1 BTC in some super cheap coin in ICO phase with good fundamentals and interesting project: Agoras. It does not even have a wallet and its years away from being functiona software but who cares? you are drunk anyway and you may make millions lol.
551  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: When Bitcoin will become fungible like Monero? on: August 28, 2016, 03:47:37 PM
Monero will rise until September 1 when Alphabay  will add it to payment system, then we will see another spike from darknet transactions, then it will grow slowly until new crypto release with more functions or Bitcoin will create something more impressive than CoinJoin transactions.

So what is your opinion when Bitcoin will become fungible?

I guess we will have to wait until next year. We will eventually have confidential transactions and mimblewimble, this should be enough privacy. Im not sure if it will be enough to compete against Monero, but then again im not sure if Monero can be a functional coin if transaction volume keeps getting higher, since the blockchain as far as I remember, had some really big scaling problems since it was too big.
552  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the XMR pump all due some darkmarkets announcing they will add it? on: August 28, 2016, 03:45:46 PM
yeah, it's definitely more of a realistic prospect than the other crap that's been pumped and it's not promising impossible stuff either. let's suck it and see.

Did you buy? I tempted to get in now and hope im not the idiot buying at the top. By looking at the data, it's not far fetched this could be a Litecoin tier pump. The supply and fundamentals are all there.
553  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Monero pumpers = dnm owner? on: August 28, 2016, 03:41:59 PM
How much did BTC rise when started being used at Silkroad?

Is it possible people are thinking the same?

It was an insane pump, like 100 dollars to 1200 dollars or something. You can check it for yourself here:

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/markets/bitstamp/btcusd

This is why I think XMR can pump really hard, LTC pumped hard too, they have similar supply.

Of course, you may end up buying at the top and it starts crashing... its a big gamble.
554  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ETC Criminal Coin < 1/3 Of Its Peak Price on: August 28, 2016, 03:35:11 PM

The bloodbath hasn't even started yet...   *cough* starts Tuesday 17:00 CET *cough*   Kiss

What is happenening on Tuesday 17.00 CET?

It was quite clear from the start that ETC was simply a pump and dump scheme. Yes, it was on a whole different level than what we have seen before due to all the free money that was involved and all the profit seekers taking huge risks.

The thing is, ETC has no fundamentals like ETH. They don't have the developers, they don't have the investors, they don't have the news. They only had the hype.

They do have developers, and they have the promise to not hard fork when the next smart contract holding millions gets "hacked", also it may go PoW while ETH goes ETH. Enough difference to justify its existence and prosper.

The hacker will not dump, this is FUD that ETH foundation mafia will use to try to keep pushing the price down.
555  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is the XMR pump all due some darkmarkets announcing they will add it? on: August 28, 2016, 03:29:22 PM
same bunch of pumpers as ever. freaking fibercoin had a monster pump and that didn't have a functioning blockchain and was delisted a few weeks later. it's great for the xmr holders but this is one pump of many. no doubt it'll settle a bunch higher than before no matter what happens. this shit is getting a little too transparent.

Yeah but the thing is, when a coin that has good fundamentals and actual research and innovation is pumped, it may find a new floor and march towards higher prices. Look at ETH for example. Also Fibrecoin had shit volume, this pump has massive volume, so who knows if we are not going to 50 dollars.
556  Economy / Economics / Re: Loans too risky? on: August 28, 2016, 03:24:44 PM
Loaning a few million satoshis for a small profit.... You better just go ahead with your signature campaign and earn much more out of it with no risks involved.

Well in any type of loaning service that is going to be always risky at all. And it is going to be better if you are not going to have any debt from someone or loaning agency. Because we can't say that we are going to be able to pay our loans. Because that is why people are loaning just to pay again from their other debts.

The problem is in the bitcoin world at least in BTCJam, the people used to steal your money and run with it and never paying back, even the A+ qualified users, so that is why I never bothered with loans.
557  Economy / Economics / Re: Why do people keep saying BTC is dead?! on: August 28, 2016, 03:22:31 PM
There is a list of the times bitcoin has died in bitcoinwisdom.com, it shows how stupid and short sighted people are. Stop paying attention to that and focus on buying more BTC.
558  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If one day BTC cannot be traded for cash, what will you do? on: August 28, 2016, 03:20:01 PM
I will spend all my bitcoins on Purse.io.

 Cheesy  Cheesy
If it Really Happens Then I Will Exchange My All Bitcoins Into Some Other Altcoins And Then I Will Exchange the Altcoin Into Cash....
Only this way Remains To Get Back Your Money.....

I think OP means that what will happen once physical cash is banned so everything is digital... because when that happens, it will be impossible to convert to cash since cash will not exist.
559  Economy / Economics / Re: If Bitcoin goes up very high should i buy a house? on: August 28, 2016, 03:12:58 PM
Many people dream about house to build or to buy their own but others till dream only because they cant afford to buy a house. If you have a 10btc above maybe its the time to wait the price of btc hit your desire price before you make a decisions to buy a house or invest it again.
But if i were you if have a 50 btc and above now you make a decision to buy a house or to build it becoz 50 btc if you converted it into cash is enough to build a house if you have own lot.
50 bitcoin are equals to 29,854 USD which it is far than enough to build or buy a house if you live in USA, as average cost for custom home building are around 304,268 USD according to home advisor. so you need 450 bitcoin more to build a comfortable house in USA.

a house are property and investing on property are pretty wise choice. you should not procrastinate it.

Actually you need more than 450 since you will need to pay capital gains taxes once you convert the BTC to USD to buy the house you want... so unless you are already rich, its better to hold your BTC until they are worth millions.
560  Economy / Speculation / Re: I will not Die Untill Bitcoin will reach at Least 50K on: August 28, 2016, 03:11:06 PM
Just make sure that you stay alive for the next 10 years and im sure you will see more than 50k, potentially 100k+ and more as capital moves within Bitcoin.
