5481  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Multiple Projects Accuse Exchange of Being "Coordinated, Chinese Criminal Group" on: July 02, 2019, 05:12:20 PM
Token sales in it's different forms has been getting more unpopular among investors due to the high rate of scams and fake projects. IEOs came at a time when alternative currencies was at it's lowest and has not quite taking off among investors. Developers with a real product and applicable utility would look for other means of introducing their product to the blockchain technology.
5482  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Using BTC to send funds cross-border (in current day) on: July 01, 2019, 06:22:41 PM
This will even cut down the fees needed for cross border transactions....

It would not really... The sender would have to buy bitcoins on an exchange, and pay conversion fees, send the Bitcoin and the receiver would also buy cash using bitcoins, as he/she isn't interested in owning BTC. This would increase the cost of transaction.
If he's going to convince the receiver to transact using bitcoins, they could as well learn about the utility and applications of cryptocurrency, this would make them aware of it's worth. But if it's an emergency and Bitcoin can not be used as a form of payment for the product or service. Then the conventional means of transfer would be more convenient
5483  Other / Meta / Re: Would you like to have an app for Bicointalk.org on: July 01, 2019, 05:51:10 PM
An app is not a bad idea, and I have not yet gotten theymos take on it possibility. One option which I believe is very plausible is a mobile view option across all browsers rather than the default desktop view. This would make it easier to type and read through.
I rarely use a PC to navigate the forum, and have gotten quite used to doing it on a mobile device, so it's mostly down to familiarity rather than the website being difficult.
5484  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How tokenization is different from Securitization? on: July 01, 2019, 12:24:39 PM
AFAIK Tokenization would be the process of converting a stock or asset into a token, and transferring it's value to that token. It is a was of transferring an asset to the blockchain
STOs are used for security tokens, which are regulated by financial bodies, such as SEC. While, ICOs are used to introduce utility tokens into the market.
I also found this thread which contains discussion on this topic
5485  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: June 30, 2019, 06:43:20 PM
It should be that DT members should not give negative trust for stupid reasons as it will become an abuse of having the DT member position

DTs are always charged to be sensible in their decisions, and while trust flags takes away some attention from negative trusts, they should be charged to not only hand them out for relevant cases which affects the general trustworthiness of a user.

5487  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Becoming hero/legendary from scratch is it possible now??? on: June 29, 2019, 08:22:26 PM
is it something us newbies should be hunting, up to the point of buying accounts which may eventually be tainted? I personally like the idea of being here just for fun and little dialogue exchange, but i dont know if i am heading in the right direction with this point of view.

Yes you can hunt for it, put in the effort, do your research, give out quality and relevant content, and learn as you grow.
And there is no right point of view, different people have different objectives for being members of this forum. You'd need to define yours and work towards that.
5488  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Coinshub or apps like that- how safe is it? on: June 29, 2019, 05:53:48 PM
I prefer to manually add my assets in a portfolio app like blockfolio. This can be tasking when actively trading as it needs to be updated regularly.
Coinstats and coinhub has good ratings and are quite popular. But, endeavor to do your own research on their privacy policy and possible third party involvement in the storage of data. Ensure you do not divulge passwords or private keys.
5489  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: {WARNING} Cybersecurity vulnerabilities/flaws that may affect you. Up to date. on: June 28, 2019, 07:36:27 PM
- Use 2FA and password and never forget it at any cost.

It's also advisable to back up your 2FA account, if you use Google authenticator, or more preferably use authy which automatically creates a back up which can be assesses using your email and password
5490  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What is OTC trading? Why should I choose OTC? on: June 28, 2019, 11:33:52 AM
OTC stands for Over The Counter trades, and it is used when individuals want to keep their transactions private. It is not a trading strategy, where one profits from, but an agreement between two or more individuals.

There is no specific amount range. People still trade with large amounts on the open market, OTC is needed when you want to keep the transaction covert, possibly to avoid influencing the market price.

Not all exchanges support OTC trades, check the options available on the exchange of your choice.
5491  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A story about how to lose everything or "happy" 2019. on: June 27, 2019, 08:24:57 PM
Firstly, when investing in cryptocurrency or any venture, you shouldn't be persuaded. You should be advised and giving tools to help you grow your knowledge. This would make it easier for the investor to manage their assets effectively.

Cryptopia exchange was liquidated sometime last year due to a major hack. I do not know of any possibilities of regaining your bitcoins which was on that exchange.
Storing your assets on an exchange is never a good idea.
You should own the keys to the address which holds your assets.

I'd advice you first build on knowledge, then invest money
5492  Other / Meta / Re: Decentralised merit sources on: June 27, 2019, 03:29:36 PM
. To avoid abuse we could implement this right away by allowing current merit sources to have more weighting and prevent account farmers from having an impact by reducing their weighting to almost nothing.

I am curious to know how you'd determine who an account farmer is. Earned merits, rank, trust?
It think it would be susceptible to abuse on a small scale.
Overall, I don't think k you have to fix something that isn't broken. Delays in merit source isn't so much an issue that warrants changing the whole system.

The more people who have you on their list the more weighting you have. Anyone in the top 5%/10% or whatever we deem suitable for the size of the forum would then become a merit source.

If you make it an automated process, then members don't need to apply, or show interest. Take into account that not everyone would be interested in being charged with smerits to distribute within a certain time frame.
5493  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Career path and detours on: June 27, 2019, 10:24:49 AM
I mean one can only be stressed when he/she isn't been appreciated or doesn't like what he's doing and if you don't like your work then it's a wrong career. (my opinion).

It is your opinion. But look at it like this; a medical doctor can be very stressed out after standing for a straight ten-hour operation, while still feeling fulfilled about having saved a life. Also that same medical doctor can be stressed about losing a patient during his/her night shift (even though it may not have been their fault).
I don't believe there's a happily ever after. There'd be challenges no matter how much you love what you do. It's WORK, it's not meant to be easy, but it should be something that you always want to go back to and be better at.

Also, a stressful job does not mean a wrong career
although I'm against the way the current ones are been operated. Schools just program you to be a poppet of the government. Since you're writing about careers put some emphasis on skills because it give you an advantage over others with just college degree.

Standardized testing discourages diversity, and tries to lump student with completely different strengths into a particular direction.

I also didn't put emphasis on college degrees. I was generally writing on any form of education one ventures into.
It's also important to pick a skill you're passionate about. Entrepreneurship is good, so are college degrees, so are talents/gifts. Just do what brings you fulfillment.
5494  Other / Serious discussion / Career path and detours on: June 27, 2019, 08:41:13 AM
Education is a very prominent aspect of every individuals' life. This could be acquired through, imitation, training, apprenticeship, self teaching. It could also be formal, informal, semi formal or non formal.
All forms of education boils down to a certain career path, i.e, what would you be doing for the rest of your life?
This question is an ineluctable one, and often one has to answer it at a very young age.
Of course, there are a number of people who from their wee days are certain of what they want to do and what brings them fulfillment. But I risk saying, majority of people do not have a certain career which they want to pursue, and if they do they have little idea of what that path entails when making that decision.

I'm of the believe that a career path should not be rigid, one is free to take detours when it appears necessary. The 'rest if your life's is a long time, and do mot be afraid to return to school, get a second degree, take up that passion.

Life is not a straight jacket and there are many limitations to a such quantum shift; age, finances, family, finances and to an extent society.
But, no career path should be simply endured. Find a balance and compromise that benefits all aspects of you.

Also, a stressful job does not mean a wrong career, people still take long vacations and sabbaticals from their passion and dream jobs. Find a Balance.
5495  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A new kind of scam in telegram using gambling site on: June 27, 2019, 08:01:42 AM
As a rule of thumb; legit connections rarely message first, and not out of the blues.
If I get a random message from an unfamiliar contact, it raises all red flags.
Also why would the owner of a gambling site want to cheat his own system? He's proposing something inappropriate. Frankly this is an easy scam to spot.
Greed and ignorance (most will not verify the site using a third party) is the major reason people get scammed.

5497  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [GUIDE] Overview of the trust flags on: June 27, 2019, 07:24:30 AM
It's great that logged out users and guests also get to view the flags on accounta

True, and this depends solely on DT members, reason they were charged to be decisive in their assessment and judgements.

This increases the responsibility of DT members not to give negative trust for stupid reasons, but only for things that cause you to believe that the person is a scammer.
5498  Other / Meta / Re: 4 Pages of Bounty Mega Spam on: June 26, 2019, 06:13:30 AM
There's also an option to report a users post history to moderators, introduced by admin @Cyrus, this makes it easier to handle such mega spam cases

After recent discussion about it's usefulness, I've made a small userscript to add the Report to moderator button on the Show lasts posts of this person page.

You can upload it to a user script manager (eg:GreaseMonkey for FF).
Code:
Code:
// ==UserScript==
// @name     Post history report button
// @version  1.1
// @grant    none
// @include  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=*;sa=showPosts*
// @include  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;threads;u=*;sa=showPosts*
// @require  https://code.jquery.com/jquery-2.2.4.min.js
// ==/UserScript==

var postLinks = $('td.middletext a:last-of-type');
var buttonLink = $("span.middletext").slice(1);

for (var i = 0; i < postLinks.length; i++) {
  var postLink = $(postLinks[i]);
  var reportLink = "<a href=" + postLink.prop("href").replace("index.php?", "index.php?action=reporttm;").replace(".msg", ";msg=") + ">Report to moderator</a>";
  $(buttonLink[i]).prepend (reportLink);
}

Here is how it looks:

5499  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Population rise and downsides on: June 25, 2019, 05:40:24 PM
If it gets worse and reaches the point where half the planet becomes uninhabitable, you can bet that it is the poorest countries that will suffer most.

At some point these countries have to get dependent and start thinking on their feet.
My country, Nigeria for example, is one of the largest producers of oil. While the rest of the world is looking towards other means of driving machines, which are more friendly to the environment and sustainable, we are stuck with oil which is gradually fizzling out.

Of course there are other countries which are direct consequences of external factors, and would need the help of developed Western Nations to curb climate change
We need to find a global solution to turn population rise to a positive.
5500  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [ Question ] Profile Photo & Copper Membership on: June 25, 2019, 05:09:57 PM
I've been trying to find a way to change my profile photo in this forum but apparently in the "Profiles" tag I was virtually unable to find an "upload" button.

The forum does not have a profile photo option. Only avatars, which can be used by full member rank and above only.

When I clicked it it didn't show what you will get from such membership

Copper membership lifts some of the limitations put on a newbie account account.

By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

- Some of the same permissions as Member-rank members, such as reduced signature styling restrictions. (But none of the PM-related restrictions are currently lifted, such as the style limit or per-hour PM limit.)
- Your "you must wait ____ seconds between ___" counter is reduced by 75%. So if you're naturally of Newbie rank, you only have to wait 360-75% = 90 seconds.

If you paid an "evil IP" registration fee, then whatever you paid (in BTC terms) is subtracted from the upgrade fee. If you paid a registration fee a long time ago, you might even get a free Copper Membership due to the increase in BTC price. Just visit the link at the bottom of this post to check whether you have it already.

Edit*
Also, when I insert an IMGUR image link, it didn't show the image but it suddenly became a link under [img] tag

This is one of the limitations on newbie account which can be lifted by purchasing copper membership. As a newbie images are not displayed in your posts but image links
