Yes. Anybody got an estimate for how many MHash/s this can pull while OCed ?

ArtForz was a pro at that kind of stuff ...

The current trend is to clock for max efficiency instead of max hash rate.  Make up for the hash rate with moar GPUs Smiley
582  Other / Off-topic / Re: What kind of laptop should I get? on: January 31, 2012, 06:10:51 PM
I have an Alienware M11x that is absotively awesome.  I can play SC2, WoW, BF3, and pretty much any game on it, and it gets 6Hrs+ of battery life.  It's slightly bigger than a netbook so it's super portable.  But if I were to do it over again, I'd wait for the R3 version which should have a 2nd or 3rd gen i7.

So what was the price?
587  Other / Off-topic / Re: Amazon still (as of 2012-01-28) sells Foie Gras products on: January 30, 2012, 10:08:02 PM
Amazing, a system which encourages making products for the cheapest possible amount and selling them for the highest possible results in a system which is as unethical as it is uncaring.

Huh I've always found Amazon.com to have really good prices.
588  Other / Off-topic / Re: Female to Male Ratio on: January 30, 2012, 10:05:16 PM
*shrug* No idea.  Is the m/f ratio even relevant to Bitcoin?
589  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Omg crazy 7970 clocks??? on: January 30, 2012, 04:04:19 PM
so the 7970 finally crashed at 1261 left it running all night running at 1250 Cheesy temps are around 63C b/c it's cold here and I have a fan blowing at it right from the window. The 5970 is also OC'd stock voltages at 875mhz. I know on CGMiner it was doing a total of 700mhs on Intensity 9. But Diablo miner is completely different.

wait... wat?  Either you're mistaken, or you have a freak card.  I think the commonly accepted max 24/7 stable OC on a stock 1050mV 5970 is around 825MHz, plus or minus.
590  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why isn't the term "cipher" used anymore? on: January 28, 2012, 05:42:36 PM
Eminem uses it all the time in like every other one of his songs.
591  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AMD code-named "New Zealand" Radeon 7990 on: January 27, 2012, 08:53:56 PM
Any idea where i could get the 5970 for $299?.
NewEgg.com had them at that price a few weeks ago.  They're all gone now.
592  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: So with the new 7 series cards coming out.. on: January 27, 2012, 05:23:52 PM
Oops.  Sorry.  Updated to reflect real prices.  Not sure where I got $350 from.  Maybe a good dream. Smiley

Damn!  It was plausible enough... I thought it might have been a SlickDeals promo or something.
593  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] 10x 5970 on: January 27, 2012, 05:20:04 PM
You have to admit it though.....
You are one of the biggest bottom-feeders in the market place....aren't you ?

You constantly make low ball offers to people on their stuff that would make even a wellfare case look financially sound by comparison.

How many retards brag about how cheap they got something, then jack up the price all on the same day when they try to resell it/them, as if no one else was paying attention ? Does this make you cool ? or simply clueless ?

The sad part about it is, you just figured out how to use these cards, now you are going to sell them.......
Let's pray that GUIMiner still works for 7000 series cards...LMAO.

Free market.  How does it work?
594  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: So with the new 7 series cards coming out.. on: January 27, 2012, 04:48:01 PM
Very pretty but very expensive.

$350 per GPU * 4 + $200 for MB/CPU/RAM + $200 PSU? = $1800 per rig for ~2.5 GH/s.  $0.72 per MH?

3x5970 used (or some used 5870s) for $300 ea + $400 MB/CPU/RAM for ~2.2 GH/s.  $0.59 per MH.

Wait, where can we get 7970s for $350?  I will go max out my CC right now!!!
595  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Newegg $300 Gift Card or MoneyPak on: January 26, 2012, 06:16:09 PM
I can vouch for EP as a buyer.  I sold him a 5850 a while back and he sent BTC promptly.
596  Economy / Speculation / Re: CRASH!!!!!!!!! on: January 25, 2012, 06:49:38 PM
Back when we were hovering around 3.20 for a couple weeks and then suddenly dropped to the 2.70 range, I sold.  Then the very next day everything went back up (of course) and proceeded on to 7.XX :-/  Not making that mistake again.
597  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Undervolting a 5870 and a 5770 to achieve better MH/J performance on: January 24, 2012, 07:45:01 PM
I pay .0202 cents a watt

Damn, that's pretty good. I have one of those variable plans. It toggles from $0.05815/kwh during on-peak hours, down to $0.04273/kwh during off-peak hours. Of course I have to pay a flat "demand" charge of something like $10 per kW I use.  My power company likes to stack on little rinky dink charges that add up Sad

2MB PCI S3 VGA card, linux
idle 101W

so let's run some numbers, using 0.95V as undervolt for 7970...
whole system:
max OC @ stock V: 5970 2.02Mh/J, 7970 2.01
undervolted: 5970 1.99Mh/J, 7970 2.41

assuming system is 100W (well, more or less...)
max OC @ stock V: 5970 2.75Mh/J, 7970 2.89
undervolted: 5970 3.13Mh/J, 7970 4.39

bullshit calc (aka simple load - idle)
max OC @ stock V: 5970 3.38Mh/J, 7970 3.07
undervolted: 5970 4.37Mh/J, 7970 4.95

Awesome, finally a back-to-back test on the same system... and it looks like the results are pretty close in most of the settings.  The "max OC" part is going to vary from card to card, as is the minimum undervolt, so that will def impact the final numbers as well.  Did you try going any lower than 950mv on the 5970?
599  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 vs 5970 power consumption on: January 23, 2012, 05:52:55 PM
What would one expect a 5970 to draw at stock settings?  I only ask because I have 12 mining away currently.

Stock voltage:
System Idle: 138 watts
System Mining: 250 watts
Card Mining: 605/166mhz, 950mv, 112 watts
550 MH/s (4.91 MH/watt for the card)

Bear in mind that I cranked the clock down just enough to match the 550 MH/s hash rate of Roadhog2k5's single 7970 just to see what kind of power draw the 5970 would have at the same hash rate.  After some experimentation I found that I could go down to 900mv and still be 24/7 stable.  Just out of curiosity I was playing around this morning and got things working at 885mv which further shaved off a few watts, but I haven't had time to see if it will actually run 24/7 that way.

I can't remember what the power draw is at stock voltage and stock clock, but I can check when I get home tonight.

Edit:  Nevermind this entire post.  I forgot that stock voltage is 1050mv.  For some reason I was thinking it was 950mv... durrr.  I'll measure stock settings after work and report back in when I get some hard numbers.  From what I can remember though, stock voltage with a 825MHz clock (stock is 775MHz I think) my entire rig pulls around 390-400W.  So subtract 138W for system idle and that puts my stock voltage (with OC'd core) 5970 at 252-262W.
600  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 vs 5970 power consumption on: January 23, 2012, 04:42:17 PM
I already posted a comparison in another thread, but FWIW here it is again:

Single 7970: Roadhog2k5's results
System Idle: 270 watts
System Mining: 388 watts
Mining: 925/150mhz,  865mv, 118 watts
550 MH/s (4.66 MH/watt for the card)

Single 5970: My results
System Idle: 138 watts
System Mining: 235 watts
Card Mining: 605/166mhz, 900mv, 97 watts
550 MH/s (5.67 MH/watt for the card)

Of course this is two different systems so the baseline System Idle numbers are different.  Theoretically it shouldn't really matter what the idle baseline numbers are, but it would be nice to see a true back-to-back comparison on the same mining box.
