He paid, so I did put up a link to his http://minefield.bitcoinlab.org link. This site is safe, right? It's down now.

Are you saying you actually put up a link to that scammers website?

Confirmed that the ad is actually placed in rotation, I just saw it.

@theymos
Someone tries to run a CSS injection ad and you put up his ad because "he paid"?  That's an awful line of though.
theymos removed the malicious section of code before putting the link into the ad rotation.

I know that, but if they're trying to get something in the ad doesn't it stand to reason that they don't deserve to have an ad in rotation?  I'd say trying to get malicious code into an ad should result in a ban from the forum.

583  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SMS To Mobile Phone For Send Transaction Code on: August 16, 2013, 06:14:28 PM
As an added level of security would it be possible to have an SMS message sent to your mobile phone and enter in your wallet for sending transactions?

There would need to be a drop down box for more than one mobile number to select.  eg. If you have a SIM cards for different countries.

This is a very vague question, it all depends on the service/client that you use.
I live in Thailand, my bank is in Australia.

When I transfer funds I receive a text message with a four digit code which I have to enter for the transfer to proceed successfully.

I am using Bitcoin QT wallet on my laptop.

I do become a little paranoid about protecting my wallet and thought my suggestion could be a possibility.

It's not going to happen with the Bitcoin QT client.  Your best bet is to encrypt your wallet with a very strong password if you're worried about unauthorized transactions from it.

There's really no way to stop unauthorized transactions in bitcoin though, because there's no central authority.  You just have to make sure you're keeping the private keys secure.

Sadly you can't, your best bet would be to switch to using the watchlist.  Check out https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=121853.msg1311529#msg1311529
586  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: No BitInstant but do you Need BTC? Want to do BTC for MoneyPak? on: August 15, 2013, 06:05:19 PM
I suggest using escrow if you're going to trade with someone who hasn't done anything on the forum previously.

Here's how it should work:
Get escrow setup
BTC4PAK01 sends the bitcoins to the escrow address
You confirm that coins are at the address using blockexplorer/blockchain/etc
Send him the moneypak
He uses the moneypak, then lets the escrow holder know to release the coins

Hooray for a safe and happy transaction!
587  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Robot Bitcoin Robot is Live - Start Making Money! on: August 15, 2013, 04:08:48 PM
Hello all,

World's first Bitcoin Robot is live! Buy/Sell Bitcoins on autopilot and start making money!

Link :- http://www.btcrobot.com/robot.html

Only limited copies. HURRY!!!

You, like every single commercially available automated trading program out there, are a scam because if your system reliably worked, you'd make far far more money simply running it yourself. Because of the nature of feedback in the markets, the more people using any particular strategy, the less likely that trading strategy is to work.

Thank you for spelling it out... this is exactly correct.

It really boils down to if something seems too good to be true, then the odds are it is too good to be true.
588  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC Robot Bitcoin Robot is Live - Start Making Money! on: August 15, 2013, 03:44:46 PM
Holy crap... that site now has a pop-up that comes up when you click to close the tab.  If that doesn't scream sketchy website, then I don't know what does.

It's also definitely not the first trading bot out there, well over 2 years late to being that.
589  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: "Newbies" is the most dangerous subforum on this entire site! on: August 15, 2013, 03:43:14 PM
Hopefully the newbie section will be a little safer now.  I'm working to get threads moved out of here that don't belong, so please report anything suspicious/sketchy/altcoin/gambling/etc.
590  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoins threads in newbie jail + Altcoins on bitcointalk on: August 15, 2013, 02:07:49 PM
Finally!

Should we also report advertising of other Kind in the newbie jail? (would seem a bit hypocritically if only alt coins would be moved, but the newest dice game or "investment" is allowed to stay)

Please do report those as well!  The whole goal with this change is to get rid of spam (giveaways) and anything that's trying to take advantage of people new to bitcoin (gambling/investment).
591  Other / Meta / Re: Altcoins threads in newbie jail + Altcoins on bitcointalk on: August 15, 2013, 01:51:49 PM
Alt-coin threads are being moved out of the newbie section now.  Please report them if you see them.
592  Other / Meta / Re: Sad on: August 15, 2013, 12:31:09 PM
I don't really care about the altcoin board, but a newbie section is supposed to help new people to learn about Bitcoin - not to exploit their little knowledge about the subject.

If this is happening in the newbie forum it is a deficiency in moderation and should be addressed. However, the notion that the gambling and altcoin forums should be deleted because certain people dislike them is more in line with nanny state thinking than the freedom based ethos of Bitcoin.

The newbie forum is going to be cleaned up today.
593  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why do the mods allow accounts to be bought and sold? on: August 15, 2013, 12:27:26 PM
I know this is an old thread, but bluefin.....Hurray for you.

You bet your ass you're right.

I don't remember anything about signing up on this forum about letting anyone sell my information.
It isn't for sale Mr Moderator.

some one send me a list they sold and I'll take it to the courts and straighten their ass out.

I can always find the owner of the site and list all of their public and private information all over the internet, if they wish.
This would include names, addresses, children, prents, grand parents, cousins,  schools, work, etc, with work #'s, home #'s and we can all give them a call.
All you need is one to start with.

hear that Mr Moderator?

once a thief, always a thief.
What do you think they do on their mining sites if they pull that shit here?
The same god-damned shit.

"I just think you need to take it as a fact, the admins allow it and that is all? Just my two cents!"

and should we just understand that by joining this forum we  have given them the right to just walk into our houses and steal all of our shit, too?
How fucking stupid are you?

They can't IMPLY shit!!!!!!!!!!!!
It had better be in fucking writing with MY signature on it. Probably notorized, too.
I gave you NO rights to ANY of MY property, dickhead moderators.
If you think I did, PLEASE take me to court. I'll take every single motherfucking crytocoin you have and then some.

I think you misunderstood what's going on.  No one is going to take your account and sell it, YOU'RE allowed to sell your account if you want or buy a different one.
594  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BTC Robot on: August 14, 2013, 06:12:03 PM
The very first mention I heard of it was a few days ago in a giveaway in the newbie section.  The site that it was linked to looked pretty sketchy and set of my internal scam-o-meter.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=268889 is the post I saw it in, links to http://bitcoinrobotreview.com/btcrobot which doesn't look legit to me.
595  Other / Meta / Re: Matthew N. Wright on: August 14, 2013, 05:53:12 PM
I want to know what constitutes trolling cause isn't buying ads that attack companies trolling? Isn't leaving inappropriate feedback on the trust system trolling? I mean if Matthew is trolling, then I have a list of about 15 people that should also be banned for trolling.

I guess I don't understand, the censorship around this forum is insane. It would make Satoshi cry. A real shame.

I'm with gweedo on this one.  If MNW gets banned for trolling there's plenty of other people who need to be banned as well.
596  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Batch 2 Avalon 79 GH/s on: August 14, 2013, 12:13:20 PM
I'll be purchasing this unit. Due to tysat's staff/moderator status, I'm foregoing escrow to expedite the sale.

This is my first transaction on the forums, so I'm not sure exactly how this works. I'll send the coins as soon as tysat posts here confirming the deal (public accountability).

Confirmed that I'm selling to knite and will ship today as long as I see the coins by late afternoon.
597  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining comparison? on: August 13, 2013, 10:11:56 PM

Sure do, thanks!
598  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Mining comparison? on: August 13, 2013, 08:52:28 PM
I know there are some websites out there that show a comparison for mining different coins, does anyone have a link to one?

Searched around a little bit but don't see them yet.
599  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] Batch 2 Avalon 79 GH/s on: August 13, 2013, 08:14:56 PM
with the new difficulty (35% up), u wont get that BTC for it my friend ...

Maybe not, but I can try.  Edited OP to say that I'm open to other offers as well.
600  Other / Meta / Re: Matthew N. Wright on: August 13, 2013, 06:54:24 PM
P.s. because theymos doesn't appreciate freedom of speech, I'm technically banned and can't respond to any threads (including this one) until dear leader decides I am now "safe" to let back in (safe meaning I won't bring up the hypocrisy of letting Garr225 scam because they are friends and give me a tag, all while saying he doesn't give tags anymore as an excuse for not giving one to avalon, BFL, Garr255, etc. Hahahaha. Wow.)

Is that true? Is he really banned from this forum?

He was banned for a little while, but if he's able to post here now I guess not?
