642  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Greetings and Hello on: July 07, 2015, 04:15:24 AM
hello and welcome. there is plenty to learn about btc, but you are in the right place!

there are many, many helpful and kind users here, but please be aware of security though... it only takes one bad actor to spoil it all for you, and there are a few lurking here, waiting to prey on earnest but niave users such as yourself. It is safe to live by the motto "trust no one" however, by vetting any user here that offers anything you need to think twice about you can mostly rest assured you are safe. check the past postings of anyone offering anything you might think could lead to losses for you, not just their trust rating (these can be fudged)

also learn about safety regarding storing of your coins. one hack and all your hard earned btc can disappear and the thieves are almost never caught. taking safe measures can protect your assets, but please be safe instead of sorry. I am always afraid new users will have one (preventable) bad experience and then give up on btc altogether, which is always a shame because the more minds and creatives the btc economy embraces and supports, the better it is for all. one tip... be very careful when clicking links. this is a common way to put malware on your machine which will steal your coins. One can protect himself by using a very good malware protection software (I use malwarebytes pro) checking links at the website virustotal.com, using a hardware wallet to store coins and being generally cautious and extremely skeptical before clicking links. never click any link in emails from people you dont know, double check ones from people you do know (in case of phishing scams)

I dont want to scare you, but I cant emphasize security enough. if you have doubts or questions, do ask them here, there are many here willing to offer advice.

Since you are a musician, obviously seeking to market your art over the internet, I urge you to look at this BTC backed service here https://www.ascribe.io/ it is a method for transferring ownership of digital content over the blockchain, and i really believe it could be huge for the future of marketing digital content that needs to be sold and copy-protected. (I hope you checked those links first Wink I assure you they are ok, but always check!!)

good to have you aboard, and best of luck!
643  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-06] Inside Bitcoins Chicago Is Almost Upon Us on: July 07, 2015, 01:24:59 AM
hmmm... my malwarebytes program blocked the link "malicious attack website detected"

OP might want to look into that,
the rest of you definitely should not click that link!
644  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: my computer got hacked and my BTC and LTC is gone what can be done on: July 07, 2015, 01:20:02 AM
true as stated above. anti-virus/ anti-malware dont catch everything... but they still have value...

the number one thing to remember is browsing safety/security. you already know you were wrong to click the link in an email... that should never happen. I dont even click links in emails from trusted sources/senders. If you absolutely MUST click a link, check it with virustotal.com first... it is pretty reliable for spotting malwares... but even then you must be super careful.

I lost some btc last year, because I was lazy and foolish. but I purchased a hardware wallet (a ledger wallet) and I feel much safer now.

getting robbed really sucks, and happens a LOT with btc, sadly. The experience can drive away new adopters more than anything else you might encounter in the btc world. developments are being made constantly to address the problem, but it is still a risk, even for the seasoned user. sorry dude, hope it doesn't turn you off for good.
645  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: UKDCA website is now live on: July 06, 2015, 09:36:22 PM
Probably just an excuse to be invited to some fancy lunches in the City and have some free biscuits at Number 10 plus fleece some fans. All for the price of a domain name. That's Big Value.

made a lot of people rich over at the bitcoin foundation, no wonder n00bs are trying to hone in on the (in)action.

no wonder the general public sees BTC as a ponzi scam.
646  Other / Meta / Re: HashFast cypherdoc bankruptcy scandal : Time to clean up bitcoin on: July 06, 2015, 09:31:14 PM
this is very very very illuminating for all who got burned by activemining. that whole scam revolved around all sorts of "top-secret, NDA protected" dealings with hashfast that ultimately left the Activemining shareholders holding the bag and ken slaughter shrugging his shoulders and going "derp"

if one of these retards put half the energy into something aboveboard as they do into these elaborate scams, BTC would be the main world wide currency instead of this sketchy looking tool for hackers and thieves that it resembles today.

yeah, as a community we should do everything we can to eliminate these scumbags. A good place to start is the "securities" section... the front page has at least 3 new obvious scams every day. it is every white hat's duty to go there and poke holes in these shams, call them out, expose them and protect the innocent naive users who might be fooled and in turn be robbed and ultimately alienated from the BTC economy overall.

this garbage VERY bad for BTC
647  Economy / Securities / Re: [ActiveMining] Official Shareholder Discussion Thread [Moderated] on: July 06, 2015, 09:23:46 PM
ok, this info about fraudulent dealings with hashfast trending in other sections.... namely here; https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1105722.0
since kenny was in bed with hashfast I feel this info is of GREAT interest to the users here who got burnt by this whole sham.

Sooooo, 'someone' got a matter that deserves wide interest and general discussion promptly moved to "Scam Accusations" side topic.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1105722.0 even though 5 legendary high-trust members felt fit to comment upon it. It is time to begin a meta discussion about how we deal with known bad actors from inside bitcointalk. Especially now we have clear knowledge of paid disinformation agents covertly running pay-per-topic-pumping schemes on these forum boards.

We cannot tolerate knowingly harboring nascent scammers and paid shills in our midst. Would the moderator who moved the above topic like to explain who contacted him/her and if he was paid to move the topic by cypherdoc to do so?

Here was the original legal document if anyone can't be bothered linking to the revelation. Judge for yourself if this scandal is worthy of general discussion?

Quote
gov.uscourts.canb.532683.1.0.pdf

Inside that document the title will be:

California Northern Bankruptcy Court Case No. 15-03011 Hashfast Technologies LLC- Adversary Proceeding Document 1

Examine p1, pg 6. And I quote:

"At the times of the Transfers, the BTC transferred to the Defendant were worth $363,861.43. Based on the value of the BTC at the time of the transfers, the Defendant received approximately $11,370 per day or $2,274 per post on the “HashFast Endorsement” thread on Bitcointalk.org. By contrast, the highest salary paid to any principal or employee of HFT and/or HF was $144,000 for the entire calendar year of 2013."

Examine p3, pg 6. And I quote:

"At the time of the Transfers, the Debtors owed substantial sums of money and/or equipment to numerous customers and/or vendors. Many of these obligations remain unpaid and constitute general unsecured claims against the Estate. As of September 30, 2013, the Debtors’ balance sheet had a negative equity balance of about $5 million."

http://www.plainsite.org/dockets/2k5w2nwul/california-northern-bankruptcy-court/hashfast-technologies-llc-adversary-proceeding/

Looks like cypherdoc siphoned 3000BTC off Hashfast while customers were pre-paying for undelivered mining equipment. The payments were made in return for his 'shilling' on bitcointalk.org in the HashFastEndorsement thread. So probably some kind of pass-thru, tunnel or quid pro quo arrangement to ultimately bilk HashFast customers, I mean $2,274 per post, wtf?!

Edit: okay, I got a reply from the mod who moved the original post and it seems like he legitimately thought it was a scam accusation, although I didn't intend it like that. I think it is because the court documents show defense claims of $2,274 per bitcointalk.org post seem so outrageous on the face of it that the original post may indeed look like a scam accusation, which it isn't per se.

seeing as how the "hashfast deal" that ken may or may not have done, obfuscated with grandiose claims of NDA and ultimately blamed for the ultimate downfall of the already doomed and failed ACTIVEmining... it makes me wonder what exactly Ken's real relationship with hashfast was? what kind of back-room chicanery was really going on? just how deep does this fraud run? as far as kenny is running from the law right now?

also makes me wonder confirms my suspicions about zumzero's role in this whole fiasco, his incessant shilling and constant denial (dont bother commenting zum, ive had you on ignore for months)

anyways... the plot thickens....
648  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] [PI metal detector private shares with 50% profits] by alcurEX CEO on: July 06, 2015, 09:10:25 PM
I dunno man, it just seems that going to Australia to wander around several thousands of square mile looking for gold with a metal detector is no efficient way to either find gold OR sell metal detectors.

It also would not be the first time a tiny exchange sold a worthless interest in itself.

good luck, let me know if you bump into the kennilworth guys wandering around aimlessly in the desert.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Distribute bitcoin to every Greek citizen on: July 06, 2015, 05:53:05 AM
Airdropping is a pretty miserable idea. Coins either get dumped, squandered, lost or just sit there as no one knows what to do with them. Cards are rare enough in a lot of places in Greece. A crypto would be a curiosity and not much more.

Something would be better introduced via commerce. Businesses could offer change in the new coin, offer discounts and aim towards a closed loop. People need to know it has a sense of value instead of it magically teleporting into your computer.

Yes to the second paragraph, yes to the whole thing actually. BTC could be a boon to the Greeks but just handing them out won't work. Also, they're going to have an exceptionally hard time buying any due to bank situations.

What Greece needs is a BTC ecosystem (merchants accepting, workers earning, employers paying, users using BTC) which doesn't really exist there. Maybe a few hundred users? Probably mostly holders only too

How to implement such a thing? It's not like it wouldn't be welcomed, it's just a tough thing to instal from zero.

We need a BTC Flying Squad.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: #EarnBitcoin on: July 05, 2015, 11:50:06 PM
I hope to see this too.  It is sort of a catch 22, we won't see wages in bitcoins until we have wider adoption, but paying in bitcoins would make for wider adoption.  It seems to be getting some nice media attention with the  Greece thing, so you never know what is on the horizon.
This is my hope for the outcome of the Greek situation. They can't really buy BTC because they can't really get their hands on cash. Thief best option is to accept BTC for payment of goods and services, which will in turn enter the ecosystem when spent.
We still need a huge injection of BTC into Greece in the first place. Too bad TBF is useless as it is corrupt and bankrupt. They could have sparked a revolution.
651  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving eurozone - Greece & Bitcoin on: July 05, 2015, 10:18:14 PM
I think we will see Greece's crisis effect soon and there will be huge investment in Bitcoin in near future. This is very short period to calculate the impact. In future people will prefer to keep their savings and earnings in Bitcoin instead of banks after facing so many troubles in recent crisis.Bitcoin has huge opportunity in Greece just need more awareness and time to be well known by common people.
Actually, the more I think about it, and the more I look at the past few days' charts, I believe we will see daily action much the same as today.
Greeks can only get 60 euros a day. They can't spend it all on BTC they need the necessities, so, at most, after groceries and gas etc. the average Greek will have maybe 20 euro (if even) to stash. If more than 40% of Greeks put that 20 into BTC we will see spikes in the price like today's, not insignificant, but weak and short lived. However, if this process is repeated daily and more and more Greeks get on board, it will have a deeper effect on price.

I'm no economist and I have no solid proof to back this up but it just seems rational to me.
652  Economy / Securities / Re: [ANN] [PI metal detector private shares with 50% profits] by alcurEX CEO on: July 05, 2015, 09:03:58 PM
It still feels like a bait n switch. Hey look guys, I'm not mining for BTC, but actual gold, even the who gets richest in a gold rush angle... It's just distracting enough to gather attention, especially here where BTC mining has failed to pay off time and again. It worked for kennilworth- stupidly simple con artistry.

This metal detector guy may be on the level, but I still remain sceptical. Why does he need to go to Australia to test it? Why can't he secure private funding? He's offering too much pay outs...

Sorry if I'm offending anyone but the whole thing just seems wierd.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Has Bitcoin lost its soul? on: July 05, 2015, 08:54:56 PM
It's basically money. By definition money is the opposite of soul.

Money is still the root of all evil, digital or not.

Still, I know what you are getting at. The problem is, BTC can do none of the good, libertarian minded things it promises unless it is widely adopted. And like money, it is t good or bad in of itself, it's what you do with it.

Personally, I find moral discussions repugnant. Good and evil are just concepts. Probably the most divisive and destruction I've concepts out there.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin trending in greece! on: July 05, 2015, 08:48:00 PM
I feel like the big holders here should charter a flight and go over to Greece to be ambassadors, setting people up with wallets and offering to pay for everything with BTC. Since Greeks want BTC but can't get cash, they are going to have to earn it for goods and services.
Too bad entities like the Bitcoin foundation are just bullshit cash cows for the greedy and don't actually do things to forewarn the cause by going out and actually doing things that are needed.
655  Other / Archival / Re: Bitcoin price just reach $275 on: July 05, 2015, 08:29:30 PM
I think we should wait the results of greek's referendum ...
Thats gonna have a huge effect on the price isn't it?
I don't know much about price and how things affect it, but I happen to have a lot of bitcoin on me right now so hopefully whatever happens will make the price rice higher!
Will a NO or a YES vote result in price higher or lower?

Yes of course the pump is obviously related with the greek's referendum, because this is the unique possible answer... and we should remember that today is sunday. So it doesn't exist any other possible explanation to this little pump of few dollars.

The result will affect much more the bitcoin price...
The referendum is related to the price only in so much as it is bringing whales to the table, hoping for a spike. That combined with the effect of all the pro BTC news we're seeing, and the simple fact that when the price goes up people start buying like crazy. We'll see how sustainable this all is...
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Leaving eurozone - Greece & Bitcoin on: July 05, 2015, 07:45:51 PM
agreed with the Greeks working for BTC, accepting it instead of credit. It's not going to make a huge difference this time around, too late this time, but this is the perfect opportunity for a true BTC ecosystem to occur. If everyone was using BTC for every purchase and being paid in BTC, that is actually the true point of the whole experiment. NOT buy/sell/moon. That economy is just specious.
657  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcointalk Twitter Campaign for Greece ! Mustread for All on: July 05, 2015, 07:40:17 PM
I'm retweeting this, no problem. Despite the barriers (limits on cash withdrawals, poor exposure and ignorance of BTC) it is a good option for such a crisis. Yes it may be too late but there could always be a "next time" as I see it all of Europe is going down the drain. I'm sure greece's neighbours are watching and taking notes.

BTC won't take over tomorrow, but every situation like this moves it that much closer.

Better retweeted than sorry
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin Could Be the Best Investment of the Century on: July 05, 2015, 07:37:45 AM
All good points in that article, but nothing that hasn't already been said before. Notice how the entire article concludes with a link to an investment opportunity? Good news I guess, BTC is still valuable enough to steal!
659  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-07-02] CD: How Ascribe Uses Bitcoin Tech to Help Underserved Artists on: July 05, 2015, 04:50:47 AM
I'm really holding out for this to be btc's killer app. I work in the arts and have seen countless artists working in the digital realm either limited in the distribution of thief art or simply caving in to the fact they have no control and giving away thief creations for a song.
I inform every one I speak to, offer to advise or offer any other help they might need. The publicly funded small gallery artists I know make up a very small niche market, but artists are the bringers of the new. Really, I see things like music and movies being a much bigger clients for this service, but the visual arts is usually at the vanguard and those who know look there for innovation in such things.

I'm going to call this one a classic ponzi, nothing else. it would explain the test dividends... it depresses me to see every offering here to be such terrible scams. far east russia....yeah right... even if true, what recourse will all those who lose money on this garbage have when it all goes south... i guess we will see after august and they disappear. happy fishing, suckers.
